Heated grips are as optional as the quickshifter, track-mode and supermoto mode :P But, I also think the electronic options that are allready in the bike but has to be payed for to be unlocked are ridiculous and stupid.
These guys fucked up, only thing to buy is a race dongle which saves your setting so they don't need resetting every time you turn the key on. Everything is available standard.
The race dongle on the 2017 is only to disable the ABS completely, nothing more, the 2017 is a completely different bike, i know as i own one, unlike the earlier version where traction Control and anti wheelie where combined, on the 2017 they are separate systems and the Anti wheelie can only be turned off if you buy the OPTIONAL track pack
It pissed me off that I had to pay 49 bucks for a program to cancel my turn signals automatically. That is a safety issue and should come with the bike!
The SDR is indeed a corker, I loved it...but have you chaps ridden the Yamaha MT10 SP?? I think for me that even trumps the Austrian....great work as ever, keep 'em coming to You Tube for those of us that can't view elsewhere...all the best - TMF
i know its a stupid complaint but the black electronic housing box really bugs me. wish it was molded level with the white bar on the last triangle on the tail portion of the frame . i know its a really stupid thing to not like but i cant un see it
Well generally tire classifications fall into the following categories: Racing slicks (not road-legal, can only buy them at tracks) Track Sport Sport-touring Pick a category that suits your intended use and try several brands over time.
So can you or can't you wheelie without the track pack??????? I was going to buy one of these but I'm not spending another 1500 dollars on an already very expensive motorcycle for the track pack so it'll wheelie which it should do straight out of the box......
get a left over 2016. there are many to be found and theres not much difference in the bikes between 16 and 17. save money and buy a 16 then use the extra money that you would have spent on a 17 and put a pipe and whatever on it and still be ahead of a 17 super duke..
I rode one at the Bike Festival and found it suprisingly jittery in first under 35km/h. Did you find the same? As a commuter bike, it could get annoying to be jerking around in low revs in first. Or maybe that's a big twin characteristic, I can't say as I haven't ridden many myself.
@nothing to see here Bullshit! i had a 2015 SD1290R that i put 120,000km's on it riding to & from work everyday, traded it on the 2017 model 3 weeks ago.
i own a superduke 1290r.. and driving 120 km/h with it as a naked bike feels amazing... you have a direct sight of the road and nothing from the dash/mirrors in your face. also these guys saying it doesnt want to be driving on a fast road 90+ km/h why the fuck you do 1000+ cc reviews?!?!
MrKdr500 you need to turn the traction control off if you want to do a wheelie, and you need to pay extra for the track pack to turn the traction control off.
Making a standard package prevent dank whoolies is ridiculous. That's an important part of a mental bike like this and making customers pay for that option is akin to extortion... unbelievable. I'm very disappointed in KTM. I thought they were about that squid life.
The Beast They said wheelie control is separate from TC. Also you can only turn both off in race mode, which is an option, so with the stock setup you can't do wheelies... but I really hope I'm wrong :)
@120ftup It's not a fucking option! everything is on the bike standard, race dongle is for saving settings so that they don't need changing every time the key is turned off. FFS
@MrKdr500 you are wrong, i have the 2017 and it is not the same as the earlier model, it most certainly is an option you have to pay extra for and you no longer need the dongle like the earlier model either. Standard 2017 has Rain,Street,Sport modes you have to pay to get the track option which allows you to then turn off the Anti Wheelie and traction control, without the track pack option the anti wheelie is on all the time and unlike the earlier model is separate from the traction control
At this point I'm hoping the old dude who tested it was too electronically inept to understand how to fully utilize the modes and settings. My hypermotard took some manual reading when I got it to fully utilize the customization options. The 1290 has been a dream bike of mine since it's release... because I'm hooligan
So is Suzuki, evidently. And I wish they'd bring it back, in a 100-pounds less form, without all the bloated features and the heavy grain-silo exhausts sticking out its butt.
the track packs and such are ridiculous! im glad i have 2016 1290 super duke without the new garbage. with the price tag these bikes come with, you shouldnt have to pay for anything to ride the bike how it was designed to be!!!!!
I agree; if I ever happen to want a SDR, I'll get a pre-owned one where the first owner paid for all the goodies and packs and options ;) (nah, probably will get the Gen1, due to our tax system)
Cuz a lot of buyers will then complain that their premium motorcycle has a LOT of electronic options that the manufacturer spent a lot of money on developing that are never gonna be used. Not everyone does trackdays, and the track pack throttle response and traction control are limited in use to the point that they are a very unwise setting for road use. Although I agree I wish these packs weren't as expensive as they are.
Blame BMW, they were the first brand to bring this pack shit into motorcycles, they get a lot of money using the scheme in car industry, imported it to the bike industry, and the other brand greedy for money are starting to do the same, ducati already does it also, ALL BECAUSE OF BWM, never buy a bmw bike, NEVER!!! they are the satan of the 2 wheels industry, its their fault adventure bikes cost 20k now, its their fault bukes have packs now, fucking bmw... Hate their guts
Tuono and SDR are more or less same price here; I got the unreliable heap of shit (sic) Tuono and love the V4; I didn't like the body position on the Gen1 SDR... and couldn't get a test ride either. I was tempted to pick up a used SDR earlier this year, but could only find the all-orange ones and I don't really like to be seen as Dutch ;) ; that being said, I do love the overall looks of the 2017 SDR and apparently the body position is now slightly more leaned-forward than the Gen1... ; sigh, so many great bikes out there! (had an S1000R in my garage until 3 weeks ago too)
It's clear: you want power below 9,000 rpm, buy the KTM. motorcycle.com.vsassets.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/2016-aprilia-tuono-v4-1100-factory-vs-ktm-1290-super-duke-r-hp-torque-dyno-547x389.jpg
The main problem with the aprilia is not reliability but maintenance, just check how much each service cost, how often you have to do them, and double check the valves clearence service, you jaw will drop to the floor, loved the tuono because of the delicious v4, once i learned about maintenance costs i runned away of that bike like a vampire runs from wooden sticks.
Jay vlogs dalits like you ride 50yo hondas to scavenge cardboard. There are a few brahmin who were clever enough to steal the white mans technology so they can buy a few cars.
I heard that 2018 SDR will have it's wheels locked, you need to pay $500 for the "wheel-pack" to unlock rotating wheel function.
Funny but not funny !
The fact it's a bit industrial gives it character.
I'd like one.
It's a 10/10 for me
Me, too.
Agreed. No bike I’ve ridden was as much fun. Pure beast of a bike.
£425 to turn the quick-shifter on - £300 to turn off 'wheelie control' = A bloody liberty!
KTM treating the biking public like muppets.
It's crazy how easy the front wheel comes up in track mode.
I don't understand why they stopped making the rc8 and made this bike. They said the rc8 was too dangerous n that's why they stopped making it.

MrKdr500 no it's not standard, the track pack is$300 and the quickshifter package is $600 dollars
For this kind of money, everything should come as standard. Period. Full control over settings. End of story.
It pissed me off that I had to pay 49 bucks for a program to cancel my turn signals automatically. That is a safety issue and should come with the bike!
Finally a honest review! Cheers also for the laugh!
Brilliant video!! Track looks scenic. Nice camera work! Great ride!
0:07 holy shit, having a superduke make you went super saiyan
Good point about track pack how it's extra
How is the downblip on the SuperDuke compared to the Super Adventure
HD !!!! Finally thank you.
The SDR is indeed a corker, I loved it...but have you chaps ridden the Yamaha MT10 SP?? I think for me that even trumps the Austrian....great work as ever, keep 'em coming to You Tube for those of us that can't view elsewhere...all the best - TMF
Giving up 302cc of displacement and a mountain of torque?
How do you set the bike for the drag strip? 2016 Super duke R
Damn that's why you should never lick a 9v battery!
Metzler M7rr is more touring than sport tire??? Maybe for Rossi
i know its a stupid complaint but the black electronic housing box really bugs me. wish it was molded level with the white bar on the last triangle on the tail portion of the frame . i know its a really stupid thing to not like but i cant un see it
How much does the bike cost?
is the seat height adjustable?
The bike is already expensive and KIM is making you pay more to unlock options , what is up with that ?
Stupid bullshit to turn off customers. Like me paying 40 something extra to have turn signals cancel.
It does have heated grips! More research needed.
Hey guys a question for you. What tires do you recommend for street and track use on a Yamaha R1? Thanks,
Cheers.
Well generally tire classifications fall into the following categories:
Racing slicks (not road-legal, can only buy them at tracks)
Track
Sport
Sport-touring
Pick a category that suits your intended use and try several brands over time.
Ask about tire with hard centers and soft sides for turning. Latest tire tech.
What bike is that at the beginning? Nice decal hahaha
Cagiva Mito 125 2-stroke.
So can you or can't you wheelie without the track pack??????? I was going to buy one of these but I'm not spending another 1500 dollars on an already very expensive motorcycle for the track pack so it'll wheelie which it should do straight out of the box......
Paul Thomas you need the $300 dollar track pack. I bought mine and found out about it the hard way
get a left over 2016. there are many to be found and theres not much difference in the bikes between 16 and 17. save money and buy a 16 then use the extra money that you would have spent on a 17 and put a pipe and whatever on it and still be ahead of a 17 super duke..
Would you take this over the MT10 SP? I'm annoyed with the track pack enough to go with Yamaha (almost). Cant decide
Then you would have a piece of crap and not a KTM.
Because until you've ridden a MOUNTAIN of torque, you won't understand.
@@1-shotslinger108 That's absolutely not true - the MT10's a terrific bike!
Incorrect information : No Track pack and it will wheelie with TC off.
you are correct! these clowns are clueless.
Wrong... you need the track pack for 2017 model to turn off TC.
MrKdr500 I bought mine without the track pack and can confirm it doesn't wheelie without it..... So no your wrong
Gerard Klein it does if you turn traction control off
Steve Hunt no it doesn't, on the 17 tc and wheelie control are separate. the only way to turn wheelie control off is to buy the track pack
Aprila for me
I rode one at the Bike Festival and found it suprisingly jittery in first under 35km/h. Did you find the same? As a commuter bike, it could get annoying to be jerking around in low revs in first. Or maybe that's a big twin characteristic, I can't say as I haven't ridden many myself.
I've owned it for a couple of months now, I dont think it is jerky at all, and I've been saved allready by the TC :P
My KTM 1050 is like that until the engine is warmed up, then it's fine.
very smooth at low speed, maybe your just not used to the bike?
@nothing to see here Bullshit! i had a 2015 SD1290R that i put 120,000km's on it riding to & from work everyday, traded it on the 2017 model 3 weeks ago.
This is the most incompetent shift friendly bike there is . Besides you hardly need first gear.
It's an axe wielding nutter of a bike that also helps old lady's cross the road
The TFT screen is horrendous. Condensation build up is terrible. Can’t beat the analog gauge.
Glad to say I have one than. :-D
i own a superduke 1290r.. and driving 120 km/h with it as a naked bike feels amazing... you have a direct sight of the road and nothing from the dash/mirrors in your face. also these guys saying it doesnt want to be driving on a fast road 90+ km/h why the fuck you do 1000+ cc reviews?!?!
Drive a bike ?just saying
I wouldn't pay extra to be allowed to wheely no matter how good the bike is my Brutale wheelies just fine without any extra additional gizmos
you don't need to pay extra, these guys are on something....
I thought that sounded like the craziest thing I have ever heard.
MrKdr500 you need to turn the traction control off if you want to do a wheelie, and you need to pay extra for the track pack to turn the traction control off.
Damn track pack is so so stupid.
Making a standard package prevent dank whoolies is ridiculous. That's an important part of a mental bike like this and making customers pay for that option is akin to extortion... unbelievable. I'm very disappointed in KTM. I thought they were about that squid life.
120ftup switch off the TC wheelies in 5th
The Beast They said wheelie control is separate from TC. Also you can only turn both off in race mode, which is an option, so with the stock setup you can't do wheelies... but I really hope I'm wrong :)

I've seen a car tow a bike - I've seen a bike tow a bike.......
but could any production bike tow a car ?
mcgeechan6600 I remember seeing a motorbike towing a truck in the newspaper about 30 years ago.
mcgeechan6600 Triumphs rocket 3 would probably be best choice to try that...
Where do you ride in SA? Is it safe or will a mob attack me?
Not sure what news feeds you are watching but yes, it is safe to ride absolutely everywhere.
The Bike Show not for the girl got that carjacked, raped and murdered a few weeks ago
oh sorry, at first i tought this video was about dragonball
Still though Aprillia will kick its ass everywhere road and track. V4 engine sound and that frame on aprillia is not comparable.
Ride one first, twat!
: i own both dick head thats why i am commenting on it
Of course you do, fucktard
And your point is ? did you ever ride a Tuono 1100 in your life you have no idea, they are not in the same league.
apples to oranges...
As with every one else you are forgetting the Suzuki b king.
this is because its junk.
So is Suzuki, evidently. And I wish they'd bring it back, in a 100-pounds less form, without all the bloated features and the heavy grain-silo exhausts sticking out its butt.

Or just wait a year until you find one left over heavily discounted, and buy the stupid TP for less money overall than a current one without it.
Cuz a lot of buyers will then complain that their premium motorcycle has a LOT of electronic options that the manufacturer spent a lot of money on developing that are never gonna be used. Quality costs money. Beemers aren't cheap, but they're damn good. Why are you salty a premium product costs a premium price?
The stock tires will be shot at 5000 miles .
Dude your hair blew up
Ridden both and The tuono is better , never ridden a bike that handles like the aprilia , but I cant afford one
shame they're unreliable heaps of shit........
MrKdr500 hahaha true
Tuono and SDR are more or less same price here; I got the unreliable heap of shit (sic) Tuono and love the V4; I didn't like the body position on the Gen1 SDR... and couldn't get a test ride either. what a motorbike . silly KTM
india waiting for super duke
Jay vlogs it's because slumdogs can't afford the 1290.
For ur kind information india is the top buyers country in luxury cars n bikes
u never saw in ur life that much kind of luxury things in india
Jay vlogs dalits like you ride 50yo hondas to scavenge cardboard. There are a few brahmin who were clever enough to steal the white mans technology so they can buy a few cars.
Jay vlogs the only impressive thing about india is the stench of open defecation of 800 million scum peasants.
😂😂😂 i own a R1 nd guess what Im indian... slumdog really???
It is I, the first
