    Thanks for the informative video about the fuel cooler. I run a 250SS on a bass boat in tidal water up here in VA, and during the summer time, I have similar problems as well with fuel vaporizing after a long run. There was a Suzuki bulletin where the fix was putting in a 350 low pressure fuel pump, but I haven't done it yet. Your solution seems better vice putting a band aide on it with a bigger fuel pump.

      I run a ''dirt river''.....NEVER EVER use that flushing ports on the motor!!!!!!! I only run in a barrel of fresh water up to temp, for 20 minutes every day.

    Hey Captain Dave this video was really cool and informative! So thanks for posting it! I have a 04 225df and was wondering what the meaning of the VST tank buzzing sound is when I turn the key before trying to start the engine...? When I first got the engine it never made that noise so now I’m scratching my head and when I tried to run it with the ear muffs before that noise occurred the engine started right up twice but wouldn’t piss. Any suggestions of any kind would help a ton. Thanks

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  3 года назад

      The buzzing is your fuel pump that round thing cylindrical next to your VST tank that's it pumping fuel from your fuel filters.
      I'm sure it's always done it and you just ended up just noticing it or something.
      I went through all this because the fuel cooler behind a VST tank was clogged with salt and Bud from The Wonderful river that I run up and down. Which isn't so wonderful its a dirt mixed with ocean Salt River. And after years of using that flushing on the front or the back of the motors it does not flush your engine properly at all.
      That's the reason fuel cooler clogged your fuel cooler really means a lot when it's a hundred degrees and your run hard and it's two hundred and something degrees under your kaleng on a hot summer day you turn the engine off you go to restart it runs for 30 seconds and then conks out because all your fuel gets vaporized. Don't ask me about the engineering part of it all I don't sort of totally get it but I'm not a Suzuki engineer over in Okydoky, Japan. The reason you're probably not saying the tattletail piss stream did you may not have enough water pressure or it's clogged you can run a fine wire up an error some heavy-duty monofilament sometimes little shells and stuff like that get stuck in there and keep it from pissing as they say

    Great video. Thanks for putting this together. I have a 2018 DF200A outboard with about 160 hours. The engine runs in salt water in the north east. I boat the boat / engine in 2020 with 80 hours on it. I always use non ethanol fuel. I’m having an issue after the engine is running for a bit. It has a hard time starting. Starts fine with a cold start. Took the VST apart. Looks very clean. Engine is maintained per the manual. Would like to here your thoughts if you think the fuel cooler being blocked on the sea water side would cause this? Thanks again!

      NO my problem was in 100 degree Florida heat at first, then got worse. My motor had thousand plus plus hours and runs in absolute dirt water. plus I used that stupid flushing port versus a barrel, because a 250 has low water pick ups in the lower unit and cant use the muffs on it efficiantly. DO NOT EVER USE THOSE FLUSH PORTS.

    Capt Dave, Do you know if the fuel cooler is similar on the DF 150? My DF 150 does not pee when in the water, but pees great on the flush ports. I flushed it changed the thermostat, OP vlv, cleaned the oil pan cooler, and the electric unit cooler. Everything was full of sand, I bought the motor used was given the song and dance how great it was. I guess the next thing is the fuel cooler do you have any other suggestions before I attempt the fuel cooler? Thanks

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  Год назад +1

      sorry I had to have the mechanic tells me to change or check the fuel cooler that was behind by VST tank when mine was actually cutting off from fuel vaporizing before it ever got to the injectors. I don't know if that has anything to do with not having a indicator stream.
      I am not a engine mechanic. I'm one-hundred-percent shade tree.

    Question. I have DF115 2002. Hardly any water shoots out the peep hole. New impeller

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  2 года назад

      FUEL COOLER has zero to do with water coming outa the pee hole. If it isn't running hot, don't worry about it. The pee hole isn't but indicator. Still could have junk in it unless it's been cleaned out all the way to the block, and that hole could be obstructed. a tiny shell will cause it. I am not a mechanic. Just a fishing guide keeping my stuff running.

    Hey Captain Dave. I have spent a couple days working on that same engine. The fuel bulb was getting completely flat and it would shut down the engine with beeping. Computer says no active faults, but says it’s overheated 6 times. I removed the check ball in the tank, and replace the bulb and lines to the engine, so now it will run fine up to 5100 rpm’s. If I go 52 or 5300 it will start cutting out like it’s not getting enough fuel. No more beeping and engine coming to a stop like before, so it has gotten better. Do you think the fuel is vaporizing. Great video btw.

    Hey hi with thermostat removed from place flushing the engine will water come out from top where thermostats seat in place????

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  2 года назад

      YEP....thats why those flushing ports are for shit! ALWAYS run motor up to temp, with flush muffs or in a barrel for complete flushing. Without up to temp, t-stats never open. IF YOU RUN IN DIRT WATER like I do, and use the flush ports on motor, give it 3 yrs and your fuel cooler can clog and you'll experience motor shutting down when it's 110 degrees in the FLORIDA summers after hard running and then anchoring up for hrs. I had it all happen to me......

    Does any hot water from the power head run through the cooler or is it only cooler water directly from the lower pickup?

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  2 года назад

      no no water doesn't come from any pick up, it comes from a hose routed from the back of the motor if I can remember before it goes in the block cooling passages.

    • @andrewfalik2504
      @andrewfalik2504 2 года назад

      @@CaptDavesSportfishing I have a 15 hp fuel injected Suzuki that has only 8 hrs on it. There is a hose directly connecting the fuel cooler to the P tube which results in cool water leaving the P tube. On idling with the ear muffs it starts right up and after a minute the engine block feels warm however the P,tube water is still cool. So is the warm water from the engine block shunted directly to the lower unit exhaust ?

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing
      @CaptDavesSportfishing  2 года назад

      @@andrewfalik2504 well number 1 your 15hp is a far cry from a 250! You may not have a fuel cooler at all. And the piss stream is just a indicator of water flow, has zero to do with engine temp. The T-stats regulate all that. Yeah warm water exits the exhaust. Unless you're having issues with sut downs due to over heating don't over think it and consult a real Suzuki mechanic, in which I am not. I'm a fishing charter boat doing my own maintenance and work because I can't drop my boat off to sit for 2 weeks till the work is done like Willy Weekender can.

    • @CaptDavesSportfishing

      Not at all. Its due to using that stupid flush port on the motor in nasty dirt saltwater, instead of running it out in a barrel full of clean fresh water.

      If you take out your fuel cooler from behind your VST tank and you cannot blow through it. It's clogged!! Yes it's plugged with pressed in aluminum plugs I drilled my out. then ran a wire brush thru it with a drill. pipe cleaner type wire brush. then used JB Weld to re plug it up.
      re installed and Never had a stalling issue again, but Im in hot as hell Florida! Problem was in the Florida heat, under the cowling would get so hot, after a hard run. Then, Id get stalling, with no more starts for at least 2 hrs.
      Suzuki engineers used this to cool fuel off, the system is FLAWED! But thats a modern 4 stroke outboard for ya. Plus, NEVER, EVER, EVER, use flushing ports on motor!!!!!!!
      Flush and run in a barrel, up to temp. if you run in dirt shit water like I do.
