Great series! FYI. Trailer bearings get hot. Just like every other bearing. When they get submerged in water it does very bad things to them. It's understood that when boaters get to the ramp. They want to immediately launch the boat and get on with their day. However it is better to park out of the way for a good half hour. Then launch the boat. The bearings are still warm. But the shock from being submerged is gone. I used to own a boat. I would use the waiting period for one last check. It's also when I would load the boat with gear or provisions. It was a way to pass the time. Looking forward to the new adventure.
Never worry about it, just dunk it. Granted I’ve got a reasonably sized fishing boat, even with water frontage to put the boat in for the summer I still wouldn’t want anything that size. I like my 16’ fishing boat so I can go anywhere without concern if my boat will fit. I do have a 20’ ski boat but it hasn’t been in the water in at least 3 years, the smaller boat is so much more convenient.
Forget the LS swap in the boat , get another Cat or Cummins into it. then you get the benefit of running red diesel for offroad. Also a big set of chrome stacks on a boat would be awesome.
35:14 yall were in my neck of the woods lol. Thought I smelled maple syrup and wildfire smoke in the air, Jk guys. Love to see you take these adventures with new rides. Between DG and VGG, yall 2 have the best channels on RUclips in my opinion. Keep it up guys
Man this already has been one of my favourite youtube channels for anlong time. cars, engines, heavy stuff. loved it. now with boat project(s) inckuded, it will be my MOST favourite channel!❤
Super excited to see a LS swap on a mecrusier. There's a few videos on jet boats and such but not the ones you're going to find on your local marketplace.
I remember a magazine article with Gale Banks talking about his turbo marine engines. He felt quite confident moving from marine to street turbos after his Bimini boats.
You can dye the sun damaged vinyl in the boat upholstery back to it's original color, as long as it isn't cracked beyond repair. On a boat that new it should be OK for quite a while with just the dye.
I’ve had bad experiences with doing 70 on the freeway and pulling a 6700 lb boat. That hub heats up without a fresh greasing. Also I always use hex heads(nut drivers ) to screw down hose clamps haven’t had good luck with screw driver tightening the hex head will get it tighter… Glad you got a boat! Duramax huh!? Not a bad view for us to see that 1…everyone does gas big blocks ….496 is what I’d like to see 454…LS swap is cool. But anyone can do that…that’s what makes you fun to watch. You gotta do the deboss touch…maybe a Cummins swap with a big turbo or 2…check into the Volvo penta out drive. It’s 2 props in 1 and you get a better use of the energy from the motor… Keep it up, stay filthy, and keep your content coming
All these mechanical problems, the roasted bearing, the leaking trans cooler hose... This is the kind of anxiety inducing stuff that prevents me from going to places and events like these. Its good to have mechanic friends
@@electr0maker436I left off on a road trip that hasn’t ended with every item I owned on earth inside. Really enjoyed watching the build and the road trip across the US. Unfortunately the Vermont loophole is now gone, I hope you have a plan for registering vehicles in the future so these types of trips can continue.
Hope youre towing with the boat engaged in reverse. With the lower unit tipped up all the lower unit oil is at the back the front bearing is dry and with out the prop locked in reverse it will spin going down the road and wear out that bearing.
I recon you’ve started something, Rich. If I lived in ‘Merica, I’d fit out a Ute Bed as a Trailer with couch, esky, Bimini top and a BBQ for Power Boat Tour next year. 🇦🇺🤙🏼
Been thinking about doing that exact boat swap, mines not as big or as fancy but it’s a 20 footer with a 5.0 mercruiser. Want to get that old carburetor out and put a Holley and 5.3 in it’s place for more power, easier starting, and better fuel efficiency.
That’s one of the worst problems with boats that most people don’t think about until it shits the bed and there you sit on the side of the road, the trailer wheel bearing. I’ve been there before brother, along with almost everyone else that owns a boat 🤣
That’s a nice boat, definitely worth fixing. You should get some plastic clips for your hydraulic rams so if you get a hydraulic leak while trailering your leg won’t come down and grind off on the road?
Dude I literally work 10 minutes from Atlanta motor speedway, and like 2 minutes from Jim & Nicks. I’ve been watching your videos for YEARS! It’s crazy to see you in a parking lot that I’ve been in 100 times! Maybe next time we can get together and I’ll give you a shop tour! 😂

Rented a similar boat in WI early in the summer a few years ago. They put in water, and I could not get it on plane. Then warm water sloshing in the back. Middle of a lake. Rental Company forgot to put engine plugs back.
I put a built 355 tunnel ram alum head in my boat run long tube gasser headers upside down. 21 foot sea sprit . Exit the water out the side with grommets and a bit of hose. Never had a problem. Wold do 80/85 plus on glass probably could have changed the prop and got a-lot more . Lost my sundeck but hay !??
Absolutely loved following the series between the obs and the 55! If you're ever in Southern Wisconsin, We'd love to have you check out my son's '86 Wisco rat rod C10 that we built with a now rare swap (4.3 v6 to a built 350 instead of an LS) we all love the LS, but our AFR headed 350 will bring the love for the old sbc!
Way back in the late 80's Brunswick corp (parent co. of Mercury Marine) bought Maxum boats. The purchase almost bankrupt Brunswick because they inherited all the warranty claims of Maxum. The boats were crap and Brunswick completely revamp the product line. As for the blown head gasket on the Force outboard that was just regular seasonal maintenance on a Force along with spk plugs and water pump impeller and lower unit lube change.
Those GMT400s have grown on me over the years. I didn't like them much when I was younger, but they're quirky in all the right ways that I like these days.
Bizarre seeing a GMT400 that's not rotten. Step bumper, cab corners, and bed sides didn't last much more than 5 years in New York (grew up in lake effect snow area, over 10ft of snow each season)
Also before you launch that boat you should totally check the boat, cooling system and trailer for invasive mussels? ( this is a huge problem that people don’t take seriously)
What an adventure Rich, always good for a smile. Mad at myself for not coming and shaking your hand when your were down at AMS in Georgia. We get too busy. Good reminder to slow down and enjoy. Thanks man!
I am always a stickler about checking trailer bearings on any trailers I use. The stuff I've seen happen to my buddies with trailers....even new ones. Also, I have found that most of the time you can identify a bad bearing just by jacking up one side of the trailer and spinning the tires by hand.
I haven't watched the full video yet, so you might comment on this later, but... Isn't there issues with petrol fumes, running an LS rather than a diesel? My understanding is that it dramatically increases the risk of fire/explosion.
Can’t even tell you how many blocks I have swapped in trailer boats because of cracked blocks and manifolds etc because of freezing. The Chevy blocks usually crack first in the valley. With fresh water the “freeze plugs” don’t really help.
I had a ‘07 with a crew cab and a 5.3 LS. Had over a hundred thousand with zero issues other than the usual stuff like oil and pads. I was an idiot and sold it after a minor front end accident. Would love to have it back for a reasonable price. Ha!
Thanks, great video 👍🏻. Love ✌️ the O.B S. Not as much as the 55 ! but l do have a want for another ? Like an 88 or 89? BIG QUESTION, Where did you find the grill for the O B.S.? Thanks for sharing 👍🏻. ✌🏻🧡 🌦, ☕️⏳️ 🇨🇦.
All the finished projects are in neat playlists on the front page of RUclips. I luckily have a driveway full of projects cars and trucks that are legal for the road. Pretty blessed to pick and choose what I want to drive that day.
RWC engines still use a thermostat. Even tho the lake water is cool, ya can still keep the block and heads as warm as ya want with different thermostats.
What an awesome road trip! Always a blast wrenching with you guys 🤟🤟
Thanks for all your help man! I couldn't have done it without you!
👍👏 I really enjoyed this, cheers legends
@DEBOSSGARAGE u wanna trade the obs for an 04 avalanch
That's going to take an awful lot of Milwaukee 12 volts to turn that prop. A man should run them in series for a money hole in the water that size.
That'll make it an extra large money hole
"I did what any good husband would do, and I bought a boat!" Hysterical! 🤣🤣🤣

That’s some good advice👍👍👍 I tend to also unplug the trailer harness before dunking to avoid hot bulbs getting blown. Thanks for the tip sir

What a journey! It’s amazing that once you got the 55 dialed in it was good too get home. Love that obs.
Enjoyed your mention of the FORCE 90, they were built in the old Chrysler Outboard plant in Hartford Wisconsin after Bayliner bought it.
My compliments to whoever chooses the music for your videos. The music is always appropriate for the scene and catchy to listen to.

The boat sure made the trip more interesting! Everything that went wrong could somehow be traced to the boat.

Rich, really would like showing us some sound deadening of an old truck interior… the 12 valve in my ‘67 Ford really really needs it!

put a 4bt in the boat, or like in thailand where they put those heavily built diesels on little canoes
Next time you get a boat . get one with BEDS ! then you don't have to get motel rooms ! just sleep in the boat 😂😂😂👍👍
Before refilling the AC system they are supposed to pull a vacuum and do a leak test, that would have shown that there was indeed a leak somewhere.
