I'm a newby to boat ownership (2yrs). I enjoy your vids. It helps me learn and become more proficient with maintaining my boat. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Thanks for your video. There is very little advice on the internet pointing to spark plugs as a likely source of such issues. Based on my experience...by coincidence.. only last week.. I think your spark plug advice is probably relevant for all outboards. My boat tender has a Honda BF20 (3 years old and with original plugs by coincidence) and while on plane it suddenly started running rough. Most advice points to fuel issues, so checked fuel filter and replaced the fuel in case it was bad. No change. Pulled the two spark plugs which looked fine with good colour, no build up and no corrosion, and put them back in . Next step was to clean carburetor (no EFI on this engine!) which also made no difference. At this point I though I was looking at a bad fuel pump or worse, but thought I would try replacing the plugs. To my absolute surprise....problem solved! I only wish I had seen your video a week earlier :) Thanks!
I installed that same Atwood nav light 4 years ago and I’ve had to replace the hardware on that mount 4 times already. Really nice LED light but that mount is terrible. It would blow apart when hitting a hard wave. My current solution is tightening the Phillips screw when the flap is horizontal and leaving it that way. I only rotate my light down when hauling out for the winter.
You clearly are a wonderful Mercury tech. I have twin 300 verados on my amazing 2022 Axopar 37 cross cabin. One engine heats up to 170 degrees at idle but then cools right down once I’m underway. Impeller and thermostat changed but same symptoms. Could this be a sticky poppet valve? Or may be the water pump? Thoughts?
Plug #5 was the culprit on my 225 V6 along with the supposedly water separating fuel filter. BTW you can get the exact NGK plug at O'reilly auto parts for at least 50% less than a Merc dealer. Change them all while you have the cowl off. Any reports of bad coils on these?
Here in Nebraska I’m not seeing really any issues Average time for us is 30-50 hrs a season but for some reason I have had 3 customers call all have 200 V6 on tri-toons different brands of boat builders all day they feel there fuel usage has increased with running the same way No running issues and I do the maintenance on them but that’s the only thing I’m getting this season Enjoy the videos keep them coming Also was wondering if you are taking your masters this winter good luck my TAM is wanting me to this year as well but the locations and time do not line up with my schedule good
I have been hearing about the fuel gauge problem. I don't think I will be taking the test this year. Also doesn't work with my schedule. Thanks for the info. ☺️
The most common problem I have seen with these v6 and V8 spark plugs is that the insulator is getting cracked. The ceramic is so thin and fragile on these plugs. A cracked ceramic insulator will let the spark arc out to the side. Take a close look at the ceramic, can look like a tiny hairline crack.
Hi Justin, i have to replace my anchor light, the new one i got from SeaVee come with bracket and light with a little bit of wire sticking out. My question is do i have to cut old wire and heat shrink together? Not sure how to replace it. Thanks
People like to leave chargers on all the time, and end up cooking the batteries .... those 4 batts should not all be tied together nor should they have died sitting for 3 weeks, I would check for a draw.
You are correct and I also know all the batteries plus the parallel switches where on. The customer forgot to turn them off after he tried to start them. All the components had power and it killed the batteries fast. Plus all the rain we have been getting. Hopefully they all come back and I don't have to remove them again. It's not the greatest place to put batteries. 😅
Really depends on the way you want it rigged. I would say Yamaha if you don't want a joystick. Mercury has the lead on technology for sure. Good question and thanks. ☺️
@@JustinLeeMarine I run single Yamaha 4.2 on a heavy 22 ft walk around , i like the engine, but i have slip problems with the 1.75 gear ratio, change engine heights and test saltwaters s2 and revolution 4 (better only in following seas ,but increases consumption) ,any opinion ? Bravo LT maby? Thanks!
@jimjg9923 I would say you are going in the right direction. 4 blade props will slip less. Mercury makes good props and I also would check Solas. They have been around for a while too.

Down here in the Bahamas we change spark plugs , all fuel filters @ 100 hrs. On the Yamaha F450 to F70. Regardless.

Man, I love your videos and your calm voice in all situations 👍. Im curious…..what’s the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a maintenance job?
Thank you and I have traveled 3-4 hours before. Never for Marine Max but when I worked at Quality Boats I would drive across the state sometimes.

I have seen a few bad coils but nothing that I would say is common.
also ETC rubber base separates fro the ETC. Also some wheel issue, where the belt drive rubber dampener separates from the flywheel

Merci beaucoup mes ter jesten ❤❤❤❤❤❤
hey justin see those orange caps on the flywheel get rid of them seen them come off and get chewed up on sucked into the in take
I have seen that. That's a good one. Thank you 😊
You can ohms test a plug to see if the resistor inside has died
Yes you can. Good point.
Why do this test with a rusted out spark plug?
@@garplin I agree. If I was taking them out I would just replace them but if you wanted to know why, you could
ohms test not going to tell you if its breaking down under heat and load

Yes. You pull the old one and try to get to the wiring where they connected it. Cut it there and heat shrink the new wires.
@@JustinLeeMarine thank you sir
IAC?. I thought they adjust their rpm using the ETC through the PCM
Good catch. They do use the ETC to control the idle. Add or subtract air. Just my old school way of thinking. 😄
@@JustinLeeMarine hahahaha that's what im thinking. All good bro. Trust i'll keep you on your toes hahahah
Mercury keeps these guys busy
I have an electrical issue with twin Mercury V8 Verados that i'd love to run by you. 3 mechanics in Miami cannot figure it out. Let me know
Whats the issue bro?
Send me an email. justinleemee@gmail.com
What’s the type nr of that battery charger? Can’t find this model!
Noco Gen5x3

Ok, shouldn’t take much time, let me know is if you change your mind
Yamaha vs Mercury, twin 300hp for a heavy walkaround boat?

What's the purpose of the boat.

I’m not even going to lie but the fact they are still using waste spark systems on new engines is crazy to me, and then charging all this money 😂😂😂
New doesn't mean better. Job security...
