      Just make sure the steering is up to the newest version. They seem to not have problems.

    Hey Justin, great video just like your others on JPO engines. I have triple 350 verado with JPO. I have been fighting all of the issues associated with it. I have replaced all pumps to Gen C but still have Gen 1 actuators. The most recent pump replaced was the port engine and I have put 20 hours on the boat since and I am still getting critical steering reduced codes for the port engine and now I can not get it to clear. I checked almost everything you mentioned. I was unaware of the fuse for the actuator so I’ll try to locate that. I have two questions for you though. If my two engines are able to move the port with cable could my actuator still be bad? If I replace the actuator with a gen 1 will I still need to get it calibrated? I am in North Carolina and have a trip planned to Bahamas in less than two weeks and I’m about to have a panic attack. Any help is appreciated. I would even be willing to trailer my boat to you in Florida this week.

    Hey Justin, This happened to me the other day and it locked the starboard engine steering to the left. Is there a way to manual override to get the engine back to center so I can get back to dock with just the sticks and no steering?

    Hey Justin, another great video. Very impressed with your diagnostic "process". How much of your troubleshooting is based on having seen similar issues versus following a prescribed manufacturer's (Mercury in this case) fault tracing process?

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  8 месяцев назад +2

      That is a very good question. It really depends on the situation. When you do this job for so long you run into a lot of the same problems. The first gen steering systems are known to be problematic so you see them more. I usually call Mercury if something is under warranty or if I do have something I have never seen before. Just recently I had a bad CCM(triple engine)that was blowing all the main fuses because it was shorted out. I had to get Mercury to help me with that one. 😊

    Thanks for the great video. I am replacing both my jpo actuators from gen 1 to gen 2 but i am not sure where the larger hose and the smaller hose should be connected since the ports are different from the older actuator. Can you enlighten me please. Thanks

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  3 месяца назад

      They stay on the same side you take them off of. The port will stay on the port and starboard on the starboard side. You just have to route the lines a little differently to get them to work usually. Sometimes you have to replace the bulkhead line if it's too short. Hope that helps. 😊

    Great video, going through this exact scenario now with 2013 twin 6 cylinder 300's that I believe is all original equipment with about 1100 hours. Planning to do the work myself. Will I need to update my computer if i replace and update both actuators? Also, in the video on pump was upgraded to the gen C pump, will this require an update to the computer if I do just one? What if I do both? Thanks in advance!

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you and you only need to update the computer if you change just one actuator. The pumps don't matter to the computer.

    Hi Justin,
    I currently have my Searay 280 up in Port Richie at American Marina. My wife and I are searching for a better dry storage marina a short distance from the River Walk. I’m not looking for a yacht club just a better dry storage place. Any suggestions?

    Hi Justin thank you for very informative guide, would like to ask you do you think hydraulic steering or electric is better as I am about to upgrade to 2 new 250 verados thanks in advance

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  8 месяцев назад

      I would go with electric steering at this point. Hydraulic is starting to be outdated. Everything is becoming full electric. It will also be easier to get parts for the newer stuff in the future. Just my 2 cents 😊

    @JustinLeeMarine , I need help with my 2016 Sea Ray 290 Sundeck w/ twin 250s, JPO system.
    Has Gen C pumps and new actuators replace in May 2022 as per the Bulletin. Port side steering is dead and I think it now needs a new port side Gen C pump.
    I would like you to look at it if you are available. I am in the South Tampa area.

    Justin, I have a power steering unit model 8m0131263, mercury marine, hooked up to a pair of mercury verados 250 hp, works perfect - butl ast two time out fishing the power steering shuts off after about 5-7 hrs of use - both times while heading back in from fishing. and boating at the island. I let it sit for a litttle while and it works just fine.again. I believe this is a gen B model and there is a newer generation C now... is there a fix for this gen B model from possible overheating issue and shutting itself off? (atleast thats what I am hearing from others on some internet forums discussion with similiar problems) Power steering motor is located under the center console area in a Hydra Sport 28 Vector- so its in a open space under the console. Any suggestions would be very helpful.. thanks for your videos and time helping others.

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  3 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately the newest pumps(Gen c) are the ones that don't overheat. I have not heard of a solution for this problem except to replace the pumps with the new version. I have seen that if the lines going to the pump have too many 90 degrees bends it will also cause overheating issues. Thanks for the question. 😊

    Justin, what year were those engines? Do all Mercury engines have that complex a steering system?
    Thanks

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  8 месяцев назад

      They are 2018-19 and they are complicated if they are the Joystick Piloting version. The brand new ones are fully electric and don't have the hydraulic pumps anymore.

      Thank you for the quick reply. We are in the market for an Everglades or whaler about 30 feet. Seems like these have these Mercury engines or older V8 Yamahas which have their own issues(flywheel). Might have to look at 28 or 32 Pursuits, using more reliable 4.2 Yamahas.
      Thanks again.@@JustinLeeMarine

    That looks like it’s gonna become a $5000 repair-and exactly why I won’t buy a new new boat.All that electronic equipment is beyond complex and will become problematic. Only a matter of time-and usually right after the warranty is up.
    Nothing like a nice pair of Yamaha 0X-66s that have been taken care of😆

    Terrible boat layout. So many electronics in the bilge. Destined to fail by it's design. Batteries in the bilge as well? On such an expensive boat.
