  • A new study published in June in JAMA suggests a high-fat diet makes weight loss easier by boosting the dieter's metabolism. In this video, P&S obesity research Rudy Leibel talks about the study, his own research on the topic, and his recommendations for people trying to lose weight.

    It is all about what it does to insulin. Calories are not all the same because of the differing effect on insulin. Carbs vs. fats simply get different reactions, which then either store excess fat or allows the fat to be consumed by the body for energy!

    I can't believe we are still talking about the calories-in/calories-out BS. Your weight is regulated by your hormones and these hormones couldn't care less about calories. What really makes a difference when it comes to weight loss is the feeling of *SATIETY* (or lack thereof). You can't lose weight or sustain your weight loss over any extended period of time when you are constantly hungry, and THIS is where a high fat diet beats everything else out of the water. You may just have to try it yourself to find out what makes the difference.

      I just noticed that this video is 8 years old, so there is hope that Rudy Leibel may have figured out by now what is really going on. Big Pharma's brainwashing tactics were very successful and made them a lot of money. We need to get away from that.

      @Not Me : Yes and no. Do the test: Eat 5000 calories as carbs for a month and see what happens. Then repeat the experiment on a carnivore diet (same calories). You would be surprised to see that your body deals with different macros in a very different way. Calories CAN matter, if you take it to the extremes, but what matters more are the macronutrients.

    • @AnimaLibera
      @AnimaLibera 3 года назад +2

      @Not Me : I know what you mean. I too have "tested" pretty much every diet on earth. My weight went up and down. I must have lost 1000 pounds in my life (the same 50 pounds over and over again). Three years ago I went carnivore. I still overdo the calories on a regular basis, but for the first time in my life, my weight is stable.

    • @AnimaLibera
      @AnimaLibera 3 года назад +2

      @Not Me : I count my calories sometimes, just to see where I'm at, and I found out that I can gain weight on let's say 2000 calories when these calories come from carbs whereas I can eat 3000 calories or more (same daily activities) on the carnivore diet without gaining weight. Your body doesn't metabolize carb calories the same way it metabolizes calories from protein or fat. You can look at it any way you like: what you eat does make the difference here. Calories and calories aren't the same thing, depending on where they come from. Some will even go as far as saying that it's impossible to gain weight if you only eat meat, even at 5000 calories per day. I wouldn't quite go that far. If there is enough fat on your meat, I'm sure you will gain weight but much less than you would by consuming cake and ice cream. Anyway, I think you see what I'm getting at. No need to discuss this further.

      @Not Me: I don't understand? Oh really? Is that so? No need to be condescending, just because someone doesn't agree with your "wisdom". You obviously have to have the last word, so be my guest.

    Mrs Leibel , sorry but the insulin-carbohydrates-model is not valid, there is abundance od facts and data that contradicts this model. its effects are of 2nd order, what matters is calories bo matter how you look at it asides there is plenty of countries where people feed on high glycemic food and are obesity and diabetes free, like vietnam or japan for example

    Eating a low-fat/high-fiber diet lowers the overall calorie-density of the diet, allowing you to eat more food volume with fewer calories.

    Low-fat diet equals overweight/ obesity. Shock horror - saturated fat was never bad for us after all!
    Refined added sugars make us fat by spiking levels of the fat storage hormone insulin in our bodies. Fat doesn't do this. So, low-fat diets make you fat.
