The distinction between the United States and the Soviet Union was a difference between capitalism and a form of socialism, not democracy and communism
Question: if racism it’s what drives US, why are they letting millions of people from “inferior races” come this Country and becomes Citizens and reproduce “inferior babies”?
The main reason: U.S. is protected by two massive oceans on either side + frozen wilderness to the north and inhospitable desert to the south. It's a fortress. Any rival powers (Mexico, Spain, UK) were quickly weakened in the region, leaving the U.S. free to expand unopposed. Then the U.S. is in the richest agricultural land in the world, with some of the most navigable waterways and natural harbours, plus abundant quantities of literally every single resource you could need, and a massive population. And all of this was free for the U.S. to develop as no one else posed a threat. It was pretty much the ultimate hand that could be played. Additionally, the U.S. was one of the first countries to embrace democratic and liberal ideas that allowed prosperous development as opposed to the feudal European kingdoms of past.
I find it intriguing how the USA literally started from the bottom, after breaking away from Britain, and soon over 200 years, they rose up and became one of the most powerful countries In the world, when back then, no one thought they would last, not even Britain.

@Tsar Nicholas II the British Empire took whatever they wanted for many body whenever they wanted it as long as they were a world power. After the colonies broke loose in a rebuild and the USA grew, the English still had a hard time getting over their egos. Yes, it is. US took the advantage in WW1, when British Empire got weakened by his neighbours. By selling weapons and join the war at late time so they didn't suffer too much from the War, they really did it. War is a good bussiness for a country
That's definitely one reason, but not the only one. Part of it was geographical: we control a massive amount of land rich in a variety of resources, and is flanked by the two biggest bodies of water on earth (this is also what made GB as powerful as it was before we came along, just on a much smaller scale) We also basically paid for both world wars, to be paid back with interest, and managed to install the USD as the default currency for all international commerce by creating the petrodollar system
@@Khorne_of_the_Hill True. So to the point, had the US not taken the role we did at the time, there is no reason to think that there would not have been a WW3, 4, and who knows. By strangling the only real opposition at the time by basically outspending them, the US was able to position itself as the world police officer. Now, many will and can argue the United States intentions, but I have always felt that the opinion of the American people in my lifetime has been that to be a just nation and look out for other nations as well as our own interests. I am fully aware that could be debated, and in some cases, possibly rightfully so.
@@kj6597 At least 40 of the American Presidents have direct English/Scottish/Irish ancestry hence they are British. It was pretty much ww1 and ww2 right? Most of the major powers before both of the world wars were concentrated within Europe I.e. Britain, France, Germany. The world wars destroyed their economies, hence America’s relative wealth increased, but America’s overall wealth increased via lending money and selling resources to the European allies - consequently America ushered in its current state of economic prosperity. It also had a brilliant geographical land base at the time - looooaads of resources to sell to warring countries.

I think Vox should've included Geographical, Economical and soft power reasons for US's rise as well.
Haanji

Before watching the video - Easy answer: The US took advantage of the power vacuum left by the crumbling British Empire.
Yes, it is. US took the advantage in WW1, when British Empire got weakened by his neighbours. By selling weapons and join the war at late time so they didn't suffer too much from the War, they really did it. War is a good bussiness for a country
That's definitely one reason, but not the only one. Part of it was geographical: we control a massive amount of land rich in a variety of resources, and is flanked by the two biggest bodies of water on earth (this is also what made GB as powerful as it was before we came along, just on a much smaller scale)
We also basically paid for both world wars, to be paid back with interest, and managed to install the USD as the default currency for all international commerce by creating the petrodollar system
Can't argue with that
@@Khorne_of_the_Hill True. Geography was a factor in the equation, however your last part probably wouldn't have come to pass had the British Empire not been slowly crumbling ever since the late 1800s. I shocked that white men and racism weren't said once in this whole video. This is Vox right?
They talked of racism limiting expansion as that would incorporate non white races into the country.
***** yes but they didn't explicitly use the buzzwords
Eric Walker what the hell does this have to do with racism? Stop trying to find something to complain about.

Eric Walker you obviously don't watch Vox if you think that every video is about racism.

Ali we produce a lot here, but our massive military requires more oil than we can produce in the USA.

Oh yeah right of course, are you sure that it's not (obviously) because your population went from 5 millions in 1800 to 95 millions before WW1 and 150 millions in WW2 ? All because of the European-wide immigration?
That's why America was a success: amongst the fully industrialized countries, it held and still hold the largest population (+300 millions today), by far. You never wondered why Germany (82 millions of people) had a bigger economy than France and UK (around 65 millions each)?

Why are so many Americans in the internet ashamed of their country ? America is great. It's the richest and freest society in human history. It's the country that, alongside alies , defeated naziism and communism. As an outsider, I wish that my country were to be more like America, with freer markets, with the right to defend ourselves with guns, with free speech, with limited government, etc. You Americans should be proud.
felipe jannotti are you American?
The freest society with the highest prison population in history.

NortexG - Art People in America are free. Free to say what they want, to open business, to drink, to have guns, to marry with who they want...
