  • In this video I share a handful of photos that I took on my Penatx 67 during my time in Hawaii. I go over the different lenses and film stocks that I used, as well as sharing my first impressions of Gold 200 and the bad developing that messed up the photos I took on Portra 400.

the algorithm likes this vide, it was on my recommended the second it was posted... either way, good work!!! Makes me want to get a Pentax 67 and intrigued by your use of zoom lenses on landscapes and of people. ALSO, I love the comparison of iPhone shots and your film shots

I saw your video when you first released it and it just auto played when I realized....I was staring at that exact Pentax 67 sitting on my desk! After I got the prism from you I bought the body from the person who bought it from you 🤣 How wild.

Great video man! So genuine. Can’t wait to see more from you.
I’m also thinking of just keeping one film camera. I wonder why you didn’t like the Mamiya 7. I have been eyeing the Mamiya 645 as it seems like it can produce beautiful landscapes and portraits. I currently have a Pentax 645, and though it’s nice and reliable the images can be too clinical (almost digital) for my taste

Thank you for the kind words David! I think the Mamiya 7 is a great camera and I’ve enjoyed my time with it. Ideally, I would keep it because I think it would be a fantastic camera to have when it comes to traveling with a film camera, but I’m trying to shift my work in a different direction and selling Mamiya allows me to get the gear that I would need.

I’m now a new subscriber and I’m looking forward to your adventures in photography. I’m an “analog only” person, so my hope is that you find reasons to stay with film for as long as you care to. Embrace the grain and use it to your advantage.. you’ll be glad you did once you get everything dialed in!

I think provia is quite good at balanced color reproduction. So if you use it to shoot portrait combined with landscape, the outcome could be quite amazing. Good job man!

The reason why some labs don’t push or pull colour film is because most c41 has so much latitude with metering that it makes a insignificant difference in the lab (except it sometimes longer to process). A good lab should be able to explain this to anyone willing to learn.
Most amateur film photographers also rely mostly on spot metering or average metering and reciprocity is something that’s rarely taken into account, making the push/pull redundant(remember, the longer film is exposed, the less sensitive it becomes). On most old 35mm cameras, the iso/asa button doesn’t actually do anything, anyway, but it still sounds cool 😎

Ehhhh I don’t necessarily agree with the first part. Film does have a lot of latitude, but if you shot the film with the plan to have it pushed in development, your shots are going to be underexposed.
Film performs amazing if it’s overexposed but quickly falls apart if it’s not given enough light

Hey, great video! I was just wondering, at the start of the video you said that you sold a few of the pentax lenses and took the other ones on your trip. Can you tell me which ones those were and why you sold them? thanks!

Hey! After the trip I decided to get out of the Pentax 67 ecosystem. I found a Mamiya 7 for sale and did a partial trade + cash on my end. I ended up trading the 45mm and the 150mm.

i dont think that was lab's fault. In fact, there is a large number of portra400(120 / July 2024) were not properly preserved during transportation. You'd better not use those films to shoot serious projects

I was drinking a coffee one day at the gas station. Getting some sun rays on my face. Taking a moment between photo shoots. There was a young dude riding his bike and he was almost hit from the back by a super slowly rolling truck. He got really upset, demanding apologies from the truck driver, but he didn't give a fuck. Almost as in the kid didn't exist. Must have been very frustrating for him throwing all the insults at at coldest viking truck driver in the history of truck drivers. The guy just went straight on to get some coffee without a blink.
The kid was really angry now. This bizarre situation was almost over and I think he was about get on his bike and move on.
Then he sow a huge rock by the pavement. He picked it up and followed the truck driver, who was about to enter the store, not knowing he is being followed. The kid was six feet behind him taking a huge swing with the rock. There was only one thing I could do. I yelled. As loud as I could - Don't do it! He froze and hesitated. That was a moment when he got his reason back. He looked at me and sow me for the first time. I added - hey, there are five cameras recording you. Don't do it. It's not worth it. He threw the stone away and went to pick his bike. At that time the driver was already inside, completely unaware of the situation.
He couldn't take off, he was shaking and couldn't stand on his feet. He sat down on the curb and I came over to give him some water. He had tears in his eyes thanking me for stopping him.
Now, I don't expect you to cry:) But don't do it! Keep the 67. You got something here.

Your beach photos will never be improved by a digital camera. Youre an excellent photographer but you are going through a typical restless phase. Keep your Pentax 6x7 and 45f4 and never look back.
