Welcome to the rabbit hole. The deeper one gets, the more one realizes the musical and lyrical genius of this band.
Yeah, for the first 4 albums after that it's mostly crap. I saw them live from their very first tour and the next tours until after the "Black" album. Then I thought they got lazy. If Cliff hadn't died I think they might have done much better. That said this song and "Ride the Lightning" album is great. It's hard to imagine how a group of kids at the time came up with such great lyric's based on the Bible for this song.
@@laudanum669 Eh, Hardwired to Self-Destruct is as good as the first 4. Spit Out the Bone is incredible.
@@avisionofsorrow is it better than death magnetic? Long time metallica fan here that hasn’t listened to their new stuff after st anger and wonder which of DM and HWTSD is best to give a listen.
@@Dinosaurs_with_laser_guns Hey, yeah, 30+ year fan here. Yes, this album is far better than magnetic. Literally the only album you HAVE to listen to, since the black album. There have been some decent tracks, since the black album, but hardwired is the first legit great album since those times. They did it, they actually did have another album in them.
@@avisionofsorrow Thanks for the feedback, will definitely give it a listen!
1.6 million people chanting die right at the end of the Soviet Union, imagine being one of the military guys in the front...
At that point the crowd could have overtaken the country easily.
I just love the fact Metallica wrote a Passover song.
This is Iron Maiden’s favorite Metallica song lol
This is when James still played like his hair was on fire. Best metal rhythm player ever!
wouldn’t say his the best rhythm player ever. the old metallica lead player is! but james is definitely up there, down picks are insane and extremely tricky sometimes
@@spooksyaboy10 and with Dave Mustaine still there!
@@spooksyaboy10 Mustaine doesn't play with the same muscle....fact!
Ooo...hair on fire...too soon? X-)
@@spooksyaboy10 Chuck Schuldiner
This is my absolute favorite song live. The energy is unmatched at every show.
Metallica's library is packed with greatness....especially their 1st 4 albums...you can hear the evolution into metal gods. React to Metallica-Harvester of Sorrow from this same show, crowd being beaten by security who has no idea how to control the crowd.
“Security guards” = Russian Military
I agree with you but you are falling into the trope that the 5th album is bad. Too many people discredit the Black album. That album changed music. And has killer songs. The Black album was what made them actual Metal Gods because they transcended the genre and made their music accessible. After that they were no longer a whale in a pond but a leviathan in the ocean.
@@matthewjones6149 I did not say any of their albums are bad lol. If you consider their evolution from Kill'em All to Ride the Lightening to Master of Puppets and then And Justice for All you witness a speed metal band (at the time) evolve musically and become accepted by the main stream music industry and people like none before it.
@@timlavoie4966 I was trying to be as nice as I could lol.
Gotta agree about Harvester Of Sorrow. That one grinds beautifully.....as well as Sad But True from that show. Not too many reactors give that one the love it deserves.
keeping in line with the biblical references "The Four Horsemen" is a FANTASTIC early Metallica piece, that fun fact also ended up on a Megadeth record as "Mechanix" (It was Originally written when Dave Mustane was in Metallica and he took it with him when he started Megadeth) Both are great but definitely check out Four Horsemen first!
Great song 👍
Yeah, but the debunked religious "holy" book that people cherry pick isn't even that original to begin with. Heh. #Agnostic #AntiTheist #Spiritual
Yes! But if you listen to it, don't use a live version as Metallica often abridges the song in concert, so you won't get the full version which is a MUST!
Can you imagine being on stage in front of 1.5million people breathing in their first taste of freedom to your band! Absolutely epic!
For a change in pace, I recommend Fade to black from Metallica
By the way,, Jason's backing vocals on this performance gives me chills
Every time I hear someone say the phrase "....a sea of humanity" I crack a smile and think of this show.
Metallica “ Four Horsemen” studio version
Yeah, live version is always cut, so listening to studio version first is a must
From "kill 'em all" definitely four horseman, I'd also say "hit the lights" and maybe "motor breath"
@@TheGrandario and also i havent seen a good live version of the song. Most of them sound muffled.
He only reacts to live versions for videos getting blocked but says he listens to studio after
@@Spartansareawesome11 i see
8:28 Newsted... beast mode.. 🤣🤣🤣👍 awsome reaction..
😂😂😂That look was absolutely priceless
Cliff Burton was the main writer of this song. The world lost a DIAMOND the day he passed.
With Metallica, Lars [Ulrich] is always playing a little against the riff. It’s almost like I’m the drummer and he does counter beats to the rhythm. Onstage, the only thing Lars has got in his ear monitors is my guitar and some vocals. So I’m kinda keeping the tempo of the song and he’s able to get a little crazier on the drums.”
James Hetfield
And apparently James doesn't have any drums in his ears so really he's mainly setting the time for the band
For pure, raw energy please react to Metallica "Battery" live in Seattle 1989. It's insane
Master of puppets, studio version with lyrics
yeah
He did live version with lyrics already
Every metallica song up to and including the justice album, since then they've been average with exception of "misery" and "all nightmare long"
How about literally anything studio version
Just stumbled upon your channel tonight. Awesome you've continued men, great to watch you watch and talk thru the videos. We all love feeling kind we're watching something with a friend at night.
Glad you picked up on the Old Testament reference for this song. There have been some reaction videos that reactors have no idea of this song's meaning. From my views of your reaction videos, I am not surprised you knew this. Keep doing what you are doing.
Battery. Master of Puppets. Disposable Heros. Fight fire with fire. The Four horsemen. Fade to Black. Sad but True.
The list is endless 🔥🤘
Watching this, one of my favourite live performances ever, reminded me that you should check out Queen’s performance at Live Aid; it was a 20 minute set covering a few of their songs at one of the most important concerts in history, and is widely regarded as the best live music performance of all time. If you want to see electric energy on stage, watch that.
I love it when the bassist Jason, sings parts. He sings a big chunk on a song in the LIVE Sh*t Binge & Purge...
I highly recommend For Whom the Bell Tolls live version, Seattle in 1989. Energy is off the charts.
I was at that show and it was epic! Still have the ticket stub...
I saw them in this tour as well, but in El Paso TX. 👍🏼
From Metallica's catalog, Enter Sandman ranks somewhere in the 20's for me. They have so many badass songs, mainly their earlier stuff.
YES! LOVE IT!
Another awesome reaction my friend!
Thank you to whomever sponsored this reaction! Been dying to see it!
Til the next 1☮
💥💯🖤🎼🤘
If you ever get the chance to see them do it. The energy is unreal I've been to multiple of their concerts over the years. The energy is crazy.
Thank you for this one. Got to be my fav from this concert. Unreal amount of ppl here. Ive heard up to 1.6 million? But big no mtr. Its about the music for me. One of they best out there ever. Seen them 6 times. Never a bad show. Even last yr-2021. Still kickin it! Big fan of your chann from fl. Thankx again. The whole black album is great . But soo much more! Dan..4/06/22.
Mr Loyd let me tell you something about Metallica. They are the most iconic metal band for a reason. Their first 5 albums were a continuous hit. Every song was legendary. These guys are 20 levels above other metal bands and the lyricism, the instrumental skill, etc are at peak level. Continue this Metallica train going because you’ll see why bands like system look up to them
So glad I got to see Metallica live around this time. They were untouchable. 93, Milton Keynes, UK.. supported by Megadeth. I was 17 and remember it like it was yesterday.
Great reactions. Appreciate you keeping me entertained during the day and night 🍻
just got home from work. I needed this today!
If energy is what you're after then you should check their tune Battery, especially the live from Seattle version. The shredding and the drumming in that performance are out of this world
Dude this is so badass because I watch your channel for the Eminem and Harry Mack reviews but this is also my favorite Metallica song and I’m a HUGE fan of theirs. So this made my whole week
A very unfortunate side of this event was the fact that at least 51 people died during the performance of all six bands that day.
ANYTHING from the first five albums will rock your teeth out of your head. The Four Horsemen, Metal Militia, Disposable Heroes, For Whom the Bell Tolls are some of my fav’s. I have seen them live 5 times now, starting in 1987. NEVER turn down a chance to see them on tour, my friend. I enjoy your show... keep rockin’!
11:42 its true Metal and Jazz have amazing Drums.
"The Four Horsemen ", it's about the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse. You'll love it.
I saw them on this tour. My ears are still ringing.
I'll keep saying it: '89 Seattle is peak Metallica.
came here to tell him to watch battery from that concert.
It was a great show! I still have the ticket stub and one from the Moore Theater in Seattle for the ride the lightning tour, that was epic! Megadeath opened..
The Thing That Should Not Be - Seattle ‘89!
I love that you’ll listen to anything
The one in Coachella at the big 4 was sick open to a old western with fireworks
Gives me the chills watching that. The energy. Good hell
Could you imagine 2 million people trying to watch you play a song....all at once? That's crazy.
You NEED to watch their Live performance of Battery Seattle 1989!!!!!
The fastest I ever seen any metal band play. And the drummer Lars is going insane on the song!! Please watch it! You will not regret it!
Metallica- The day that never comes video is easily one of the best storyboard music videos
yes! Nimes, France.
Larson Ulrich is dynamic on the drums when it comes to this specific type of music. He can play with impressive speed, and has always been an explosive stage performer.
Now that I've complemented Lars about as much as you'll see anyone do who knows a thing or 2 about percussion, I'm going to regret to fill you in on how Lars Ulrich is about as basic a drummer there from a technical standpoint. If a beginner drummer wanted to learn to play some heavy metal tracks, Metallica would be a good starting point. Lars plays such an awkward style, it's a wonder he can even keep up with the rest of the band.
I can respect the fact that you are impressed with Lars as a drummer, due to the reasons I stated above. But I would have to respectfully disagree that he is all that good with respect to the rest of the rock or metal drummers out there, and I'll warn you that a lot of people will senselessly bash Lars in you're comment section for this reason.
Well said. Lars definitely is Metallica and a living legend. But he isn't really a great drummer.
@Sideways G To say that someone is good at something has to mean technical skill by a large amount. I can't say a person is for example a good runner if he can't even run 1km without collapsing. For sure you are right in a way. But a person still has to have certain amount of skill before we can start looking how good or different his/her technique is.
@Sideways G I totally get the idea that you are trying to push here. But your logic of simple designs can't be mixed with the concept of being good at something. Like if being good at something is not measured mostly by technical skill then what exactly are we even looking at?
The more you listen to Metallica the more you realize that their live stuff is better than their studio stuff.
A lot of "fans" dislike Lars because they find his drumming lacking but when he's on it, he's on it. But he's the right drummer for Metallica.
May want to check out some of the S&M videos they did with an orchestra, pretty wild.
I love lars as a drummer but lost my taste for him with the Metallica v Napster stuff.
most of those people doesn't know English, also there were no any internet with the lyrics and translation, so they loved Metallica just for the music and expression, as I did when I was kid and teenager, but than I got acquainted with the lyrics and fell in love with Metallica again. Thanks for the reaction to this song
I must say, Harvester of Sorrow of this same concert is really heavy. You should definitely have a look on that performance aswell. The lyrics are deep and good too.
This song is telling the Passover story, but from the perspective of the angel of death. The album this song came from had a lot of kinda "out there" themes. There's a song about becoming a werewolf, a song about a kraken(or maybe cthulu), the story of the prince and the pauper, etc. Lots of cool and unique songs, all with amazing production value and mixing.
Edit: my bad, I was thinking of the black album., but I'm pretty sure this song was on Ride the Lightning. That album is amazing too, but it felt like kind of a show off album. Lots of long solos and silly transitions that don't add much to the songs, but sound cool. Regardless, you can't really understand why Metallica was so popular just from the live shows. Their studio recordings are absolutely masterful. They used the best equipment and techniques of the time. Everything they released was top of the line.
Creeping Death is on the Kill Em All album, which was before Ride The Lightning. I disagree with your about the “long solos and silly transitions” but you’re most certainly entitled to your opinion.
@@MikeKilo1969 You may want to check your albums.
@@mfree80286 yup, you’re right, I was thinking of the Four Horsemen. Thanks for the correction.
@@MikeKilo1969 I appreciate you being civil despite our disagreement. Maybe I chose my words poorly, but I have been playing guitar for decades now and I can see the difference between songs like One and Master of Puppets that tell the same story with or without the lyrics versus songs like Fight Fire with Fire or Trapped Under Ice where it is all just playing as fast as possible with as many overly complicated riffs as they could squeeze in. Not to say those are bad songs, but they don't feel like they had the same goal as the previous examples I listed.
@@thecooltable9481 We has a disagreement? I thought we were just offering opinions? 😆 No issues whatsoever! I respect both your opinion and your objective reasoning based on your experience. Rock on, my friend 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Fade to black from this concert is amazing
Agree, Creeping death is my favorite Metallica tune as well.
Putting in a request for the S&M (Metallica + San Francisco symphony orchestra) version of One. Michael Kamen was a genius (RIP).
Don't forget... Pantera played the same concert/venue with the exact save crowd....
Orion, from master of puppets. The studio version is a masterpiece, and its totally different from these live performances. Otherwise, fade to black, the live version is one of the best live songs you will hear. Enter sandman is frankly medicre in comparison.
If you dig drums,, check out the Godsmack drum battle. Not hard to find,, very cool!
you gotta watch metallica - battery live in seattle 1989. if that song doesnt get you beyond hyped i dont know what will.
Just goes to show the power of music!! So sick
Master of Puppets live from Seattle, Fade to Black, From Whom the bell tolls.
4:55 "I love the energy" Oh my friend, you haven't even gotten to the good part yet...
Orion, Sanitorium are both great just to name a few but for some reason ...And Justice For All is just brilliant beyond words to me.
Lambs blood painted door... I shall pass!
Freaked out my 9th grade social studies teacher with this one! I also love it... thank you B! R.I.P Cliff Burton...
Master of puppets studio with lyrics
Fade to Black
Nothing else matters video and their live performance with the San Francisco orchestra
To give you some perspective concerning the concert. The time period events were the fall of the Berlin Wall. Next the fall of the Soviet Union. The fall of the "Iron Curtain" which was the end of "The Cold War". This concert was not the first time Western Music came to Russia but this was the first major music festival. The Monsters of Rock festival. People came from all over the world to celebrate Russian freedom and meet these people we were taught to hate for decades.
I would so love to hear your voice thoughts on "fade to black" or "trapped under ice"
Great song!
Battery live 89 Seattle. MetallicA in their prime and seriously best performance
Check out Welcome Home (Sanitarium). Really enjoy your channel. 👍
Greatest band in history!
It’s said they were watching the Ten Commandments and Cliff Burton (bass player who died) said when the angel of death comes in as a mist “man it’s like creeping death”. And the song was born!
They played a few concerts with the San Francisco Symphony and they were another different take on their music. They also had a couple live albums which were a mainstay of my youth - a full concert from '89 in Seattle was amazing
"Creeping Death" is good.
"One" is great.
"Fade to Black" is better.
"Orion" is best. A modern masterpiece so good that it doesn't need lyrics.
Naaa, the best is Disposable Heroes, Battery, Shortest straw, Master of Puppets.
@@iggs67 Green hell?

You have so much great Metallica to listen to. I would suggest any of their instrumentals my friend. Orion would be a great place to start. Great reaction bro 🤘🔥
If you want energy Metallica Live in Seattle '89 is all you need! Any song from that show will bury any other performance out there. Start with the opening track Blackened and go from there.
incredible song, increbible performance! perhaps you dont believe, but they have also great balads.check out the unforgiven.
These guys are legends/masters at what they do completely changed the thrash scene been a fan over 30 years
Your appreciation of drummers is interesting check out Neil Peart (R.I.P) from Canadian band Rush pure genius
Check out Woodstock live performances, They closed the 3 day event in front of near 100,000 I believe, Great all time set
I notice that you a lot of live performances from rock and metal. I love that. I was wondering where are the live rap performances?
Enter sandman is off Black album this album got radio play 1st one to appeal to the masses, they already dropped 4 albums, some called them sellouts look at them now 1983-present 38 years still making hit and the concerts Wow seen them a dozen times more to come. Like the channel
My favorite Metallica songs are the calmer ones:
Fade to Black
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
The Unforgiven
Also from their latest 2016 album Moth Into Flame kicks ass!
Blackened Seattle '89! 🤘
Generals may be able to control an Army. But James Hetfield had the ability to control entire countries. He was unstoppable in the late '80s and early '90s. I have seen them live 8 times, and the energy is always there.
Seattle '89
Battery
The Thing That Should Not Be.
Shortest straw of justice for all. another band Id love to see you react to is bullet for my valentine
Disposable Hero-and if you are feeling really Brave...DAMAGE INC. I'm lovin' the channel
I’ve loved all your Metallica vids. If you’re looking for something a little different, I’d love to hear your thoughts on one of their slow songs. “Fade to Black” has got to be the best one. Just cool to hear that at their peak they could really do anything.
Definitely worth checking out Harvester of Sorrow from this show as well.
that was fucking EPIC
Welcome home Sanitarium studio or live Seattle 1989 also Harvester of Sorrow live from Moscow 1991 both epic
The energy levels that metal for you bro! Haha
You should check out "No leaf clover" by Metallica and the San Francisco Orchestra! Also if you ever make it to their Cover cd, check out thier cover of "Whiskey in the jar" by Think Lizzy. Two of my favorite songs by them!
Fade to Black is awesome, also for the audience in my opinion this is the best, there's one in Brasil, Rio de Janeiro 4.2 million, Rod Stewart, the biggest, but I ratter this, the energy is totally different...my favorite. at the end is AC/DC brutal...
It's funny that people that are kind of new to metal think that Lars is an amazing drummer
If you like their intensity, check out one of their newer ones (only 5-6yrs old?...) called "Halo on Fire", or "Atlas" (both from the album entitled 'Hardwired to Self Destruct'). Thanks & enjoy :)
It was over 500,000 people there for Metallica alone, over 1.6 million for the whole concert
If I walked out on that stage and saw that crowd, I would turn around and run.
Better than the album version IMO.
MUST listen to Slipknot : Spit it out at Download Fest 2009 if you want badass drummer and energy. This will knock your socks off.
You MUST react to their Fade to Black
Mr Boyd good day ,anything Metallica is good
1,000th like! I feel honored.
Master of Puppets live in Seattle 1989 if you like their stage energy.
Also The Thing That Should Not Be from there too.
