Test drove the EV6, and I'm legitimately surprised by the differences between these. Not just a badge job like the domestic makers do with their brands, they actually differentiated features. EV6 has the different HVAC controls and USB C everywhere, Ionic 5 has that big panoramic roof and remote control charge door. Just a few of the differences... Kia/Hyundai are doing it right, same platform for development, remarkably different how you'd live with them.
It was a tough decision but I went with the EV6 for the interior. I mean that's what I see most when driving, right? I still like the look of the Hyundai. Indeed they've done well.
yeah when they announced it was the same platform I was thinking, if I buy one in just gonna get whatever one will cost less because I figured it's gonna be like Chevy/Pontiac work. lol
@@nattokami9598 I liked the ev6 interior more when I first saw it in pictures, but when I sat on them both I fall in love with ioniq5 interior..ev6 has too much plastic and It feels way cramped then ioniq5. Just my thoughts..
I bought a RWD SE trim IONIQ 5 about 3 weeks ago, and I have loved it so far. I was able to get it at MSRP, which was quite difficult in itself. I just bought a magnet to try to use the magnetic panel for my phone, but we will see.
Another good thing worth mentioning about Kia/Hyundai models is they update their maps for free. I have a 2017 Ioniq and have been getting built-in nav updates via SD card since I bought it all for free. This really helps with the livability of your car long-term as you don't need to shell out hundreds at the dealership to get them to update it for you.
Drove one yesterday as well as the Mustang Mach-E. That was my first time driving an electric car. It felt weird but really cool at the same time. The hardest thing to get used to is the rapid deceleration from the regenerative braking when lifting off the pedal.
I love the styling. Seeing it in person it's so much bigger than it looks on screen, and it stands out. Me and my sister were looking at it for like 3 minutes. I think the design will age well
I actually test drove one last week from our local Hyundai Dealer and it was awesome. One of the things that caught my attention was, that even though the car takes a futuristic and modern approach, they still decided to put buttons in for the infotainment system below the touchscreeen. I hate the fact that other manufacturers go only screens. I still like a turning knob for the volume rather than having to find the button on the touch display and pushing it multiple times to turn up the volume while driving. What’s wrong with putting in some of the most essential buttons. So hats of to Hyundai for going with some buttons!
I personally love it! It looks like nothing else on the road and I love its quirky styling. So many crossovers or electric cars do not look as cool as this, they all look bland. I saw one in traffic in black and had to do a double-take because I haven't really seen many of them in New Jersey at least. It really looks futuristic, especially against the normal everyday cars everyone drives
If you want to open the boot, you just stand in front of it and it detects the key in your pocket and opens without you having to use the key or wave your leg under the car. Great for when you have your hands full and much easier then hopping on one leg
I see these every so often. I liked them when I saw them on RUclips and in renderings, but in person… incredible. So far my favorite one I’ve seen was a black one. It truly stands out and punches well above its price bracket in terms of head turns.
Starting to see a couple of these pop up in my city. This and the EV6 are fantastic cars in my opinion, solid range, futuristic styling, not excessively overpriced.
Things he missed. Driving and parking with the keyfob. Zero G mode on the Seats (thats why the car has the front leg-rest) Electric rear seats, for more cargo room or more legroom.
Great overall vehicle and one of the best EVs. It's about 4x as efficient as a gas car (100 MPGe) and ultra cheap to charge at home ($5-8). Plus no oil changes and very little maintenance. So over 5 yrs most ppl will save $10-15k on fuel & maintenance. Plus it's really fun to drive, the instant acceleration and throttle response from the high torque motors will put a smile on your face!
@@killacamfoo The modern batteries with thermal management systems last a long time, similar to a gas engine. While a gas engine has over 2000 parts, an electric motor has about 30. It's such a simple design that is way more reliable.
1. The design on the speakers and cup holders is a 3D cube which is a variant of a pixel square just FYI and 2. USB A makes way more sense as most cables and companies still leverage the technology more so than USB C. I actually appreciate it since I have so many of the cables. 3. The leg rest is to go into relaxation mode which puts the driver seat fully flat and reclined. It is not meant for thigh support while driving.

I actually just test drove one. I have a 3P currently and had a model y before. This car fits right in the middle. Seems like the right size. Sport mode sucks the gas pedal is jumpy hard to explain. Nice car overall but for the money I’d honestly recommend a Tesla model Y

The company wants Hyundai to be their slightly nicer brand with Kia being their bottom tier and Genesis being their highest. It's sort of like Toyota being the lower tier to Lexus or Volkswagen being lower than Audio and that lower than porsche, etc.
I don't really see your point, so i'm interested in your elaboration. Also, i feel KIA is more focused on driving experience and Hyundai on comfort. Hence why the EV6 has better driving experience but less back seat practicality. Also, let's not forget the stinger GT is coming from KIA and as far as i'm aware, hyundai does not have an N-badged sedan to rival. Argument seems kinda weird with the i20N, i30N and elantra N though, nevertheless it is how i feel. Feel free to disagree.
In my opinion the rectangular and pixelated lights look awesome and distinctive. There's only so many ways you can design a flowy or curvy lights these days that stand out from the rest curvy and flowy lights. The easiest way to stand out is to go the opposite way, and look damn good while doing so.
That magnetic panel is most likely for a magnetic phone holder. You attach the magnet to your smartphone and then the phone attaches to a holder you usually glue on the dash, but with this you do not need the second part, you could just put your phone on that panel. Very nice feature.
Love the review; I saw one of these and also Hyundai’s plug-in hybrids. Can the magnetic pad be used to hold your phone? I think yes! Many similar products already sold everywhere and this is integrated in the dash instead of sticking on it and only for 3 months before the glue fails. This is brilliant!
@@musho86 I agree. Too much just chuckled-off or made fun of. Duda had 4 million subscribers, yet seems rushed and not truly trying to show us how things work.
Is the magnetic are to attach your cell phone? Also the signal probably flashes 6 or 7 times to make sure other drivers know the vehicle is coming. I think its great for safety especially when the car is driving itself.
I was shocked at how amazing it looked in person. Hyundai did an amazing job and I hope they take this design and incorporate it into their other models
Why call everything "weird". A manufacturer decides to design a car that does not conform to the "norm". Who defines normal anyway? I think this looks brilliant and well done to Hyundai for designing something different.
Because he’s just babbling at this point. He’ll wax endlessly about how cool some mid 80s thing that was a POS when it was new, but them call one of the best new designs in years “weird” for no good reason.
Nice review Doug , looks like a nice car . Love those blindspot camera displays up front . Wish my Model 3 had those slide up sunblockers on driver's window . I can't stand tinted windows . This car is in high demand in Australia .

Man I just wished the Ioniq 5 had Kia’s interior
It was a tough decision but I went with the EV6 for the interior. I mean that's what I see most when driving, right? I still like the look of the Hyundai. Indeed they've done well.
yeah when they announced it was the same platform I was thinking, if I buy one in just gonna get whatever one will cost less because I figured it's gonna be like Chevy/Pontiac work. lol
Yep, went EV6 because I liked the interior better, wife thought ionic 5 was too “weird”. “Ordered” one a month ago, let’s see how long the wait is…
@@nattokami9598 I liked the ev6 interior more when I first saw it in pictures, but when I sat on them both I fall in love with ioniq5 interior..ev6 has too much plastic and It feels way cramped then ioniq5. Just my thoughts..
I bought a RWD SE trim IONIQ 5 about 3 weeks ago, and I have loved it so far. I was able to get it at MSRP, which was quite difficult in itself. I just bought a magnet to try to use the magnetic panel for my phone, but we will see.
that´s probably what it´s meant to be used for
I think it’s to take advantage of apple MagSafe
Shouldn’t need another magnet. Just a piece of metal on back of phone
The 220hp rear drive is the one to get!
I love the retro-styling that this car does. It blends modern design & retro beauty together very well.
Drove one yesterday as well as the Mustang Mach-E. That was my first time driving an electric car. It felt weird but really cool at the same time. The hardest thing to get used to is the rapid deceleration from the regenerative braking when lifting off the pedal.
have you driven a car with a manual trans? how would you compare the deceleration when letting off
it's the regenerative braking
you can increase or decrease this braking thing
@@averye I have. And it’s certainly more intense on the electric car.
@@jamesengland7461 Yep. Other than that, they were both such cool cars that I wouldn’t mind owning.
I love the styling. Seeing it in person it's so much bigger than it looks on screen, and it stands out. Me and my sister were looking at it for like 3 minutes. I think the design will age well
I think it's gorgeous, it's exactly the kind of look I like in cars, Angular but not boxy, slightly curvy.
Personally, I believe this car looks just fine. It somehow reminds me of the late 1980's Lancia Delta Integralle.

The Ioniq5 was designed as an homage to the 70s Hyundai Pony,
and the Pony was designed by Giugiaro, the same guy that designed the Delta.
@@markshkim the more you know. cheers buddy
I sell them and i say it everytime i look at it
These catch my eye every single time I see one on the road i absolutely love them
I actually test drove one last week from our local Hyundai Dealer and it was awesome.
I love this design. Stands out so we’ll without being too showy. I think the retro-future look is great and Hyundai is nailing it here.
Design is still loading and in low res atm
I personally love it! It looks like nothing else on the road and I love its quirky styling. So many crossovers or electric cars do not look as cool as this, they all look bland. I saw one in traffic in black and had to do a double-take because I haven't really seen many of them in New Jersey at least. It really looks futuristic, especially against the normal everyday cars everyone drives
Doug can you please do a detailed Doug score again like you used to do? I really loved how you would go over each point individually
Have been asking the same, earlier he used to cut short this for older cars, but, now even new ones dont get detailed explanation.
Most ppl don't watch the detailed score so that's why he shortened it
Agreed. Detailed Dougscores are one of the highlights, always looking for them... and Doug ditching them :/
I agree

One of the most beautiful and coolest new cars on the market right now. Hyundai is really nailing their designs recently!
Beautiful LMAO no
Weird how you call Hyundai's beautiful, but call Kia's ugly. That's like calling a Lincoln beautiful and calling Ford's ugly
It's a great looking car when you see it in person. Pics don't do it justice.
@@blackvr4tt I've seen it in person, looks like a Kia Soul with LEDs
@@resetgang6638 Kia Soul is smaller and a different shape....so I don't agree
I have seen quite a few of these on the road, and IMO they are one of the best looking EVs out there
I drove past one on a little side street, and thought it was an Audi… now I really want one. It ticks all the styling queues for me.
Lancia didn't come out with a new Delta, so Hyundai did it
If you want to open the boot, you just stand in front of it and it detects the key in your pocket and opens without you having to use the key or wave your leg under the car.
I've fallen in love with this car ever since it was first previewed. I absolutely adore the design!
Starting to see a couple of these pop up in my city. This and the EV6 are fantastic cars in my opinion, solid range, futuristic styling, not excessively overpriced.
They really nailed this. Never thought a Hyundai would look this cool!
So I guess you’ve had your eyes closed for the last 5 years lol
Not my preferred styling but I still give it 10/10. So many elements and they all seem to work. 👍
For me this is one of the most desirable new cars to come out in a LONG time, and that's coming from someone who dailys a W140...
Things he missed.
Driving and parking with the keyfob.
Zero G mode on the Seats (thats why the car has the front leg-rest)
Electric rear seats, for more cargo room or more legroom.
Powered rear seats is only in other countries, not available on the USA Limited Trim he's reviewing in this video.
Also missed that the pixels on the steering wheel are Morse Code for "H".
The frunk is also twice the size on a rwd car.
He also forgot to mention that the silver bar across the front of the car has an ambient light that you can see at night
Does the US not the the interior power outlet?
Great overall vehicle and one of the best EVs.
It's about 4x as efficient as a gas car (100 MPGe) and ultra cheap to charge at home ($5-8). Plus no oil changes and very little maintenance.
So over 5 yrs most ppl will save $10-15k on fuel & maintenance.
Plus it's really fun to drive, the instant acceleration and throttle response from the high torque motors will put a smile on your face!
until you need to replace the battery or do anything at all with the powertrain.
@@killacamfoo The modern batteries with thermal management systems last a long time, similar to a gas engine.
While a gas engine has over 2000 parts, an electric motor has about 30. It's such a simple design that is way more reliable.
@@killacamfoo get rid of it before warranty is up.
So what Hyundai Dealership do you work at?
I’ve seen some estimates that motors could be good for a million miles and batteries for 500,000 miles
I absolutely LOVE the look of this thing. Definitely has an 80s scifi/video game aesthetic

If I were to buy an EV, this is my first choice! Hyundai and Kia been killing it lately!
KIA/Hyundai are doing a better job than gm /FUD motors.
but they are still using OUTDATED platform , compared to AUSTIN model Y.
I actually just test drove one. I have a 3P currently and had a model y before. This car fits right in the middle. Seems like the right size. Sport mode sucks the gas pedal is jumpy hard to explain. Nice car overall but for the money I’d honestly recommend a Tesla model Y

I think the design is very well thought out and goes through eveything. As a designer I love all the details that get repeated.

@@Megalith_ How has it been? I'm looking for one!
Which Trim?
Am I the only one thinking that Hyundai's badge fits better on the EV6 and KIA's badge better on the Ioniq 5?
Exactly what I thought!!
Agreed
@@Skylancer727 what "company"? Hyundai, Kia and Genesis don't have the same parent company.

In my opinion the rectangular and pixelated lights look awesome and distinctive. There's only so many ways you can design a flowy or curvy lights these days that stand out from the rest curvy and flowy lights. The easiest way to stand out is to go the opposite way, and look damn good while doing so.
Those box lights are so FREAKING NICE! I actually like this car. Very different and spot on with a new and experimental design
Hyundai ionic 5 won the best car of the world in 2022!
That magnetic panel is most likely for a magnetic phone holder. You attach the magnet to your smartphone and then the phone attaches to a holder you usually glue on the dash, but with this you do not need the second part, you could just put your phone on that panel. Very nice feature.
Wonder if it charges?
@@nhr27 does it?????
Love the review; I saw one of these and also Hyundai’s plug-in hybrids.
Can the magnetic pad be used to hold your phone? I think yes! Many similar products already sold everywhere and this is integrated in the dash instead of sticking on it and only for 3 months before the glue fails. This is brilliant!
Yes, the magnet dash pad is specifically for holding a phone or even a tablet.
Yeah, I don't know why Doug is mystified by this feature but to me it's pretty obvious this is exactly what it's for.
That, or a handy place for putting a parking pass other bit of paper you don't want flying around when you have the windows open.
Yes this guy is technically challenged… cant believe he only thought it was for magnets… really really makes me rethink trusting anything he says
I need to see one in person but for the exterior styling I absolutely love the design!
I have seen one in person and they really stand out they're pretty neat
Looks even better in person
I was shocked at how amazing it looked in person. Hyundai did an amazing job and I hope they take this design and incorporate it into their other models
They're deceptively big. You'd never guess because Hyundai did a great job of scaling up the retro hatchback proportions to crossover size.
Why call everything "weird". A manufacturer decides to design a car that does not conform to the "norm". Who defines normal anyway? I think this looks brilliant and well done to Hyundai for designing something different.
Toyota also did the same thing with the CHR, yet people called them ugly for being distinctive and different from Karen Crossovers
It's weird In a good way where the EQS is weird in a bad way
Because he’s just babbling at this point.
I think it is an awesome design, inside and out, sure some people are gonna love it, some people are gonna hate it but you gotta give it to Hyundai for being unique👌💯
That's what I thought, 1980's pixel aesthetic. I kind of like it.
Hi Doug!
I just purchased a 2024 Ionic 5. I love the style and the performance. It is so easy to charge. Watching your review of the Ionic 5 gave me the confidence to buy one. Thank you!

I really like that this car feels designed, rather than just made. The angular lines and "pixels" are refreshingly retro-futuristic imo, and the repeated elements on the interior show attention to detail.
Not sure how many know this but the 4 pixels on the steering wheel is braille for the letter H like Hyundai has put on all models
