    Well, had similar problems in 2024 trying to connect my 4TB hard drive to my Galaxy S9, now since cross compatibility has improved I was able to power up the drive and I was able to read the contents of the drive within a few seconds, and even start the playback of a movie, but...the move would never play for very long and it would shut off and then I would have to wait for the phone to again pick up the drive, rinse and repeat. I did try externally powered 4 hub USB port but for some reason it the phone never picked up the drive. I may, go ahead and pick up a large capacity SSD and see if I can get the phone to pick it up and play without interruption. The whole plan was to be able to put my phone on a landscape wireless charger and achieve unity with charging and consumption, meaning that I can power the hard drive and charge the phone at the same time and hopefully break even with the battery level or even charge it fully over time. Kind of a portable road trip entertainment system, also using a small blue tooth speaker. Wish me luck folks.

    Is 'Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software" safe to install and use in android phone in order to connect Seagate external hard drive of 3TB or is it better to buy Samsung external SSD to connect the external hard drive without any software?

    • @BarelyPainted
      @BarelyPainted  3 года назад

      SSD doesn't have moving parts and don't require external power, which makes it better choice for mobile phone.
      A lot of Samsung phones support exFAT, straight from the box, this is mean, you can still use external hard drive.
      Third party app developers, not always guaranty long term support for their apps and correct functionality after update for specific phone model.

      My Samsung Galaxy s10 support this function, but Samsung Galaxy s4 doesn't support. If phone allows to use USB devices for backup it is possible to use an external hard drive for this.

The phone does pick up there is a connection and asks if I want to use connection to transfer photo, transfer file, only charge, or cancel. Regardless of what selection I pick, paragon does not identify there is an external hd. I have tried two externals. They both light up when connected to the system. All third party apps is not granted to work stable with different devices. My guess, software developer or phone manufacturer, rolled out some updates, which caused that.

    • @BarelyPainted
      @BarelyPainted  3 года назад

      If HDD not displayed (can't be opened) on PC and says that "formatting" is needed, this more likely damaged partition. There are few different ways how to restore damaged partition, they all well described all over the internet.
      This happens when HDD disconnected improperly.

    whats the root solution? I'm rooted.

    • @BarelyPainted
      @BarelyPainted  4 года назад +1

      Root allows to use NTFS but not remove power limits and I don't recommend this solution.
      There are a lot of reasons why HDD no longer work without additional power (battery degradation, hdd damage etc.). But more likely the reason is bad cable or connector. Will be good to try shortest possible otg/usb(for hdd) cables with high wire cross section.

If hdd protected with specific software or encrypted for example on windows machine, same application, also should be available for android and vice versa. Hdd with keypad may work directly, without any issues.

      Yes it's possible to transfer from an USB flash drive or SD card reader (single slot card readers should work flawlessly) to portable hard drive and vice versa, two portable hard drives not tested.

      There are a lot of different things which can cause data loss, this makes dificult to investigate, what actually caused data loss.
      If hard drive can be recognised by PC under Windows OS, and any data was not writened on the hard drive (after data loss) there are big chance to recover all data by using special utilites, such as "Recuva" or similar.
