Back when MTV was actually MUSIC TELEVISION
Yes! Later was "Mother TV"
Yeah 2023 now its white rich kids on yachts reality shows. No thanks.
They don't make nothing like they used to, oh hell no they don't, thanks.
Man times back then... Nowadays everybody is in "music" but every where you go you can't get this kind of vibe.

R.I.P Jam Master Jay,one of the best to ever do it.
YESSSSSSSS YOU GOT IT!!!!!! I had this on tape too but I lost it with my property. Thanks Brian for posting this. This was Hip-Hop TV History on MTV.
I love ❤️ you Jam Master Jay 🕊
See club Djs actually scratched in 90s :)
+DJ Jeff Luis and MTV actually give a damn about music and contents related to music in 90s.
Holy crap, I thought I'd never see this again. I remember watching this back around when I starting to move more into turntablism from regular djing.
R.I.P JMJ too... sad...
Grandmaster Flash, didn't invent the heaedphone cue. He created a device that allowed you to do the headphone cue that was already available on high end rotary mixers used at the discotechs of the time. He made it so that it was available on lower end mixers, but before Flash, headphone cue was already available.
I don't know why he has always spouted that bs? I think he may have been involved in the cross-fade, & as an electrician, he would know how to make a queing system, but not Invent something that was already in the disco setups.
3:55 R.I.P. DJ Roc Raida of the X-ecutioners.
Jam Master JAY is the GREATEST DJ of all TIME!!!
!
oh wow..thank you for posting this.. RIP JMJ! Salute to the foundation elder djs!!!!
Everyone knew Infamous blew them out the box
nobody mentioned Kool Herc.....the founder of breaks.
+vincethefunk ....WORD UP.....but this is more about TURNTABLE DJz
.....THE FATHER HERC .he was a sound system and records dj...not a mix or scratch...same with BAM.......they didnt always come in on beat....
Great Show!!! I can't believe this was recorded with a VCR lol.
1998 my man! I'm not even sure if there were any other options back then!
+Brian Fardink I had this on VHS too, loved it where I learned to set my turntables battle style and how to loop doubles.
yeah I remember recording this too
Wasn’t even TiVo out yet 😂
I miss the good days. Classic.
Now that is what I call talented, people don't scratch the records anymore they use their I-phones, I-pads, or whatever to DJ.
If you don't scratch you at no dj
@@jameslee837 that’s only true for hip hop. There are other types
@ 15:51 I bet they are both thinking "How the hell he do that?" hahaha Respect to both GM Flash and GM JMJ

these here two cats is what you call DJs all that laptop all that computers laptops that's cheating because these DJs back in my era Grandmaster Flash Jam Master Jay DJ Scratch DJ Grand wizard Theodore Kool DJ AJ mr. Magic Red Alert Funkmaster Flex and the list goes on and on these are what you call DJs old school always rules
technology has moved on..you have to move with the times..mix master mike the greatest turntablist ever uses serato and traktor now it saves carrying a ton of plastic about when you can have your musici on a laptop or memory stick..ive got some 1200s and some cdj2000s i use the 12s for scratching and use the cdjs for mixing..i did spend 15 years playing with vinyl..but to be honest mixing dance music on 12s is like driving a model t ford and mixing on cdjs is like driving a rolls royce..
Actually my man, all of those DJs you mentioned that haven't passed away are still active today and they use Serato on a computer
This is a good find, thanks!!!
classic hip hop shit still got this on vhs
Those were the good o'l days.
RIP Jam Master Jay :(
Infamous was too far ahead of these guys. He went on to winning titles.

Pure gold
I'm shaking my head!!!! Check it out. Everybody(excluding the crowd because they are your average, mainstream hip hop listening, MTV watching audience)....EVERYBODY-Skribble, Slynke, GMF and JMJ-KNEW that Infamous won. BUT...........because of the forum this was held in, they had to pick somebody who didn't go over the crowd's head, which obviously Infamous did. Rare Form????? SMDH...... JMJ was just being nice by what he said about him. He sure did have alot going on with him! That was JMJ's subtle way of saying he train wrecked!!!!
Got this on VHS somewhere.... Peace
ed lovers dyed hair is making me itch or scratch
I used to have this on video tape haha. The 3 dj's that battled number 2 should of won because he flipped the records off beat and made a beat out of it, that was creativity and it sounded raw, it is what it is i suppose. PEACE. One more thing master flash knew infamous had it, you would of thought abit more reaction from these legengary dj's?
super fresh !mad shout out to ed lover ! dr dre
I remember watching this at the time and thinking Infamous destroyed the other two. Now all these years later, I think that even more. 😂
This had to be like 2001, RIP Jam Master Jay

RESPECT TO GRANDMASTER FLASH
Honorable mention: DJ Kool Herc!
The 2 White boys won the battles lol That's Crazy
Steve Dee of the X-Men invented beat juggling. West coast djs coined the term though. It was originally called JUGGLING as far back as 92, maybe even before that. I don't know when the word BEAT was added in front of it. Possibly around the mid 90's.
Beat juggling has been around since the 70's - kind of how Rap music got started. Check out RUN D.M.C.s "Here We Go" the whole song is Beat-juggled Live by Jam Master Jay and was performed/ recorded in the early 80's.
Technically that wasn't really beat juggling. That was backspinning or back cueing. Had he rearranged the kick and snare into a new pattern then that could have been considered beat juggling.
Ananda is so f'in HOT!
does anyone know the track that Jay is playing that starts at 11:39? I know thats Run and the beat is Brand New Funk. Anyone know that track??
