Thank you for doing this video! I've been hitting the rain frog algorithm hard this month and this video needed to come out! The biggest thing I keep stressing in those comment sections is how difficult their care can be and that they're very reclusive. I hope this reaches more peoples eyes so they can make an educated decision on whether or not to have these sweet babies. They are so delicate, we must protec!
Edit: you got featured on Ninja Frog's post as a place to go for good care instructions for these little babies! Go you!

1000X THIS! I have an adopted red eared slider. The cost and maintenance on her 500 gal custom aquarium can NOT be overstated! Don't just buy a little "potato" just because they are so cute. Knowing how popular they have become, makes me sad. Thousands will be dying because people just buy cute pets with no CLUE that a frog or turtle isn't like having a puppy or kitten. People do NOT understand the husbandry of these "CUTE" little animals they buy for themselves or their kids. A bunch of these will be chucked into local ponds where the bass will devour them. TY for your message:)

@wrmlm37 yeah! I try to avoid the harsher details of the reality due to it making me want to tear up. 😢
people don't understand that most places on our planet host burrowing frogs and toads, they're super cute and easy to care for compared to complex specialist frog species like this one.
Or if you aren't even that confident, just settle for an actual mini potatoe. Set that bad boi in a tank with dirt and BAM! Rainfrog decoy. You'll even get to see it more often than an actual one! 🙃

@@wrmlm37 Precisely why, as much as I would love to, I won't get any pet right now. I don't have the space and finances for them, and I am still doing research on the various types I want in the future, hence being here. I've added Rain Frogs to my future pet wishlist, but am willing to wait as long as necessary before jumping into getting them as I want to do it only when I have enough info/experience and space/finances to do right by them. Otherwise, I'm content with watching care videos, cute videos, and learning about general frog/fish/cat/dog/amphibian/reptile etc care. The more I can learn before having the various pets, the better. And the videos are a lot of fun too. Learning about animal care is fun to me, even if it's animals I never want to own or have little interest in caring for... I still want to know and advocate for good care habbits for them. Maybe I'd foster or pet sit one someday instead of having my own too. Who knows. I just want to be prepared.

My condolences for your loss. May your mother rest in peace. Also, thank you so much for this video. My son has been asking for a rain frog for years but he hasn't been able to research enough information for me to give the approval. Your video has stated much important details and your experience. We decided to hold off until he is older and responsible to take care of the frog himself (of course with Mom supervision). They are cute even if they rarely unground themself and I'm glad you are a responsible pet parent. Thank you again. Take care.

I’m really glad to see someone making efforts to provide more information about these guys! I am also currently keeping B. adspersus. I’m keeping mine on a sand mix with a more naturalistic set up with a drainage layer. Im following similar feeding, temperature, and humidity guidelines. The only thing I think I missed in this video was information about what you do for supplements. I’m currently using calcium and folic acid. I’d love to hear more about what you’ve done supplement wise!

I feel that way about frogs, fish, reptiles in general. That's why I am trying to find a tear list to start with the easiest keepers and work my way up to more challenging ones once I've had success with the 'beginner-friendly' species. Also why I am creating a 'wishlist' of pets. So I can see my pet-goals and work towards them.

Keeping them in groups is really valid for these guys. Lots of frogs and toads are cannibalistic after all and need to be kept separately. If you're planning an update, maybe also talk about what you dust their food with, as that may be interesting for new amphibian keepers.
But most people getting them through social media will probably be disappointed anyway. Not much to see. In the tarantula hobby, we call these species "pet holes". You can see the entrance of their burrow and that's about it for 10 years.

Frogs, like many amphibians, do not have highly developed cardiorespirstory systems; in fact, there is a family of salamanders known as the plethodontidae, which means lungless salamander. Many amphibians exchange gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide through there skin through a process call cutaneous respiration or "skin breathing". They have very permeable, thin skin that allows for gas to exchange, but it comes at a risk of water loss. This is why amphibians lives are tied to water or moisture sources. To protect their skin, handlers (hopefully) wear gloves to prevent their skin oils or other substances like soap or lotion from clogging their pores and mucous glands. If you want to hold a frog or salamander in the wild, it is recommended to rub your hands in the dirt to create an artificial, physical barrier! 😊 Also, counter to popular belief, frogs and toads cannot cause warts to form on your skin.
