Well for one, Archie Tails isn't exactly a pushover, he has his own transformations where he harnesses limitless amounts of chaos energy, and was even a hero of prophecy destined to restore balance to the universe. I'm also curious as to what villain you are referring to, because if it's either Mammoth Mogul or Enerjak, those two are some of the most powerful entities in the archie Sonic multiverse. Mogul absorbed the entirely of the Chaos Force and was able to smash a universe sized zone in his hand, and he thought that the only way to beat Sonic was to outlive him, because Sonic is a cosmic anomaly who always manages to push through the odds.
If you're talking about Enerjak, he's a cosmic demigod who's even more powerful than Mogul, and in one timeline he killed everyone including Sonic.

Mind you, Game Sonic has canonically defeated an enraged omnipresent god in Solaris during the events of Sonic ‘06. Sure, that entire game wiped itself from the continuity, but he did still do it as Generations has Crisis City as a level.
He also defeated The End, although he used a particularly situational form in Super Sonic 2, which only came about due to his own Cyber Corruption during the events of that game.
A lot of Archie Sonic’s feats can basically be chalked up to him being insanely overpowered early on, and that scaling never really going away. Even so, on the base level of _being Sonic,_ he doesn’t really need all the insane buffs Archie Sonic gave him to be overpowered. Arguably, his reality manipulation is most likely Chaos Control, which Sonic is shown to be able to do during SA2, but he usually doesn’t use it. He wasn’t even aware it was something he COULD do, and he even did it with a fake Chaos Emerald.
