The Boys comics were just a middle finger at the superhero genre, while the show is the best satirization and dissection of the genre. Also, agreed Homelander is extremely weak in comparison to Superman and other superheroes as he has no equals, never had a challenge, his laser eyes are his greatest power, he's also extremely weak willed and somewhat of a coward.
Also, robot chicken Superman is in a comedy and therefore the “abuse” towards his coworkers is intended for comedic affect, therefore encouraging flanderization. The Boys is obviously not, so comparing the actual actions of each of the characters out of the context of the show they appear in is going to be confusing and difficult to draw conclusions from
Should note here that Homelander not being able to carry the plane to safety wasn't due to his powers being too weak to do so. Instead, it's pointed out that under more realistic circumstances, someone with Superman's powers couldn't support the plane with their super-strength. The force concentrated onto such relatively small area would simply tear through the fuselage, destroying the plane. This was meant to lampshade how Superman's powers sometimes seemingly bend or ignore real-world physics, such as Supes being able to lift huge buildings and the structures somehow stay intact instead of crumbling.
To me the idea of an evil Superman has become tiresome. It even predates Superman and Dc themselves took various stories with the concept. And most tell the same story with not much else to offer other than Evil Superman.
As a little kid, I loved Superman and he was my favourite superhero. Now, after The Boys, Brightburn and Invincible, this video makes hate the idea of a super man. No person should be this indestructible without having a weakness that could kill him. The existence of a superman is terrifying.
I remember reading this comic. It was pretty good, but at one point it needed to end. The author probably wanted to end this but was forced to continue. It was just dragging on and on. It didn't make sense. -- I eventually dropped it and to this day, I do not know how it ended.
Omni-Man puts up a decent fight but ultimately gets his ass kicked by Plutonian, then Superman solos him and Brightburn like it's a regular Tuesday to him.
@@The_Main_Account Superman is welcoming to redeemed villains. He's strict with them, pushing them to seek atonement by doing as much good as they can from then on, fully knowing it won't erase the evil they did before, while also guiding them in their new virtuous path. Hence, as long as he felt Omni-Man had truly changed, he'd be open to having him as an ally and even, down the line, as a friend. Superman would help Omni-Man find a new ground, and Omni-Man might help Superman by training him and sparring with him in Viltrumian martial arts, complementing Superman's mastery of Kryptonian ones.
I came across Irredeemable vol. 2 in a thrift shop. Of all of the “what if Superman were evil”-type stories, this one was the most heartbreaking, and relatable to a degree. Many of us have felt burnout and have had thoughts resenting those we were assigned to help. Imagine what a person with superpowers and trauma would feel if he had that kind of burnout, especially with the type of hearing that he had.
The Plutonian won't be popular until he's on the screen Has anyone seen Chaos from Zenescope comics? How powerful is the Plutonian compared to Omni Man and Homelander?
I’ve been speaking about irredeemable from time the only thing is I doubt it’ll get a show since it’s too similar to the boys and invincible and will just get carted off, hopefully it releases after invincible is done which might be a decade from now
Brightburn does not belong in the same conversation as Omni-Man, Homelander, and the Plutonian. There was no depth to and nothing intriguing about that character; nor did the film have anything meaningful or substantial to say, not about power, humanity, corruption, or anything else.
Omni-Man, Homelander and Plutonian pretty much tackle the evil Superman idea in everyway imaginable. Omni-Man's the alien warrior who pretends to be benevolent, Homelander's the media celebrity who was raised in lab without love, and Plutonian is the one that just couldn't handle the pressure of his powers and everybody being scared of him despite his good deeds. Brightburn was just a kid going crazy because of a spaceship.

When you don’t see what you’re doing as “bad” or “evil” there’s no point in anything other than doing things that align with your plan. Homelander believes he’s been dealt the short end of the stick. Kinda like the kid that was bullied who became a cop for power he’s just the most powerful person instead of a cop. Homelander switches between someone who’s been dealt a bad hand(which he was) and someone who uses control or power to shield himself being under the control that he was put under as a child. Homelander lies to cameras but the people closest to him know how bad he truly is but Omni man was lying to everyone even the woman he sleep Ong with every night. Until he he decided he no longer needed to. So worse than Omni man is saying a great deal.
@@danielchestnut9199 My point wasn't that what Omniman did wasn't evil, nore did he ever once consider it as evil.
It was simply a job. He took no extreme delight nore did he indulge. If you weren't Viltrumite, you were lesser. Simple as that.
The other do are worse (psychologically) because they Love what they do. They not only know they're evil, they're beyond redemption. They indulge in torment. They're Sadists. Omni man redeems himself in the comics. He has a decent side, he stopped himself from killing Mark.
The other 2 start out evil for evils sake. And ended evil.
@@lilkingg82 I do understand what you were saying I’m just stating that I don’t think homelander is worse that Omni man. He has showed sadistic trains. He enjoyed ripping his former team apart. He even begin to like beating his son within a inch of death. You can even say the entire Viltrumite race is sadistic in nature. They want power and they enjoy it when they get that power they’re even rewarded for it. Omni man and homelander are both products of upbringing. Omni mans was just seen as “normal” in a sense only true diffrence is homelander has more “human” traits such as his sexual decency because he was raised a human

That’s the tragedy of those with a lot of empathy, the negative feelings of others weight so heavily on them… and the truth is- they should heavily on _us_ as well, but we are able to compartmentalize that negativity and keep it separate from our daily life.
No, most people do not put that much effort into empathy.
Irredeemable is finally getting it's shine. That story was a trip!
I feel like the Superman archetype kinda has a Freudian wrinkle to it. Omniman is the id, logical and calculated domination. Ego seems to be claimed by Homelander, only driven by emotion. Super ego expresses itself in two forms then; champion in that overcomes (Superman) or the complete supplicant, using his power to impotently battle what he can’t overcome (the Plutonian). Maybe I’m reading to far into this
Neat
"His decades-long rampage marked the beginning of his rampage"
Those days of evil pseudo Superman comics. Though deconstruction was not to every fan's liking, but they were entertaining enough stories at worst and thought provoking at best.
Big error, it's Hornet who called the Vespa for aid from his car before he died, it's not Qubit. It's not Qubit style and he go save Plutonian from them soon after.
You're right, my mistake
Big plot point too, it's considered a big reveal when we find out about the deal Hornet made with the vespa.
I love these darker villain stories. plutonian, homelander, omniman there just great
The evil superman trope just needs to end. Too many of them now.
Agreed.
I can only think of three, outside of literal superman opponents. We've had more Superman TV series than that.

Homelander serves as a villainous satire/parody of Superman. It is quite plausible that he is far weaker than the Man of Steel, as he does not have experience fighting super-powered and cosmic deities like Superman has done time and time again. Additionally, Homelander's feats are nowhere near as impressive as Superman's - for example, Homelander was unable to stop a commercial plane's crash, whereas Superman is able to carry the plane to safely land. He is also based on Ultraman, who is a dark, twisted counterpart of Superman.
He also shares a few traits with Superman's Robot Chicken incarnation in that they are both arrogant, heroes in the eyes of the public, lecherous, extremely selfish, perverts, the biggest douchebag on their team, and that they both treat their teammates like dirt (RC Superman particularly displays this towards RC Batman and RC Aquaman). It was also implied in one episode that Superman's son, Superboy, was the result of an affair between Superman and Wonder Woman. However, Homelander is considered worse as he shows little to no care towards citizens. Also, RC Superman chooses which teammates to abuse, while Homelander just abuses everyone.
Antony Starr has received widespread critical acclaim for his performance as Homelander.
Likewise, Homelander is considered by many to be one of the best villains in TV history as a result of the strong writing of his character arc, as well as the combination of his depravity, egoism, and ruthlessness with his complexity and depth.
Ironically, his comic counterpart has been retroactively criticized for having none of these traits.
Plutonian edits are gonna be good fr. I know this is about to blow up.
Batman has your back.
Minor spoiler
He's, unknowingly an evil/crazy Molecule Man cosplaying as an evil Superman due to his own issues.
Yall know how the Plutonian is reading the book on the last issue? :) hahaha funny little thing there.
I recently finished reading this series.. the story is fucking amazing.. I don't know why I had never heard about it before.
I wonder if the Plutonian would get offended if I call Pluto a star, not a planet.
He'd be made you called it a star and not a dwarf planet.
Irredeemable and incorruptible are so good as companion pieces!
Bro deserves his own show
The Plutonian also more powerful than even Superman as he posses transmutation, telekinesis, gravity manipulation, and even reality wraping.
Amazon needs to make a show of this
Only a matter of time until this becomes a show
This series Must be done Animated cuz I strongly feel that a Live Action will not do it justice
Tragic character, what would Bill say if he saw what Plutonium became?
The dead say nothing.
I remember reading this comic. It was pretty good, but at one point it needed to end.
The author probably wanted to end this but was forced to continue. It was just dragging on and on. It didn't make sense.

It is now subversive to show Superman as an actual superhero.

Superman and Omni-Man vs. BrightBurn and Plutonian
*Reason:*
Superman is pure good, while Omni-Man reformed.
Omni-Man puts up a decent fight but ultimately gets his ass kicked by Plutonian, then Superman solos him and Brightburn like it's a regular Tuesday to him.
Both Superman and Omni-Man are very powerful and very powerfully strong.
@@hannahbecker2309Yeah, but their partnership would be difficult because Omni-Man killed people.
@@The_Main_Account true Omni-Man did but he reformed

Brightburn does not belong in the same conversation as Omni-Man, Homelander, and the Plutonian. There was no depth to and nothing intriguing about that character; nor did the film have anything meaningful or substantial to say, not about power, humanity, corruption, or anything else.
I forgot the storyline but that kid was basically normal for a few years and randomly went rogue and started killing for no reason 💀
@@adamfirdaus5194 from what I remember it was because he was being brainwashed by the alien ship he landed on in Earth. Controlling his mind and making him carry out their species' mission of maybe destroying or taking Earth like what Omni-man was supposed to do.
