This Chopped Cheese Food Truck Reps New York’s Iconic Sandwich | Hungry For More

- Originating in NYC, the chopped cheese is an iconic bodega sandwich consisting of a chopped up cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, hot sauce, mayonnaise, and ketchup.
Now “Bodega Truck” owner Jeremy Batista is on a mission to spread old school bodega culture and bring the chopped cheese worldwide. Offering 6 different varieties, he believes his beloved sandwich can surpass the Philly cheesesteak in notoriety and popularity. And both visitors and NYC natives are taking notice - including hip-hop artist and chopped cheese aficionado Dave East, who claims the Bodega Truck has “got it.” Batista and the Bodega Truck are bringing back NYC nostalgia and showing that the sandwich has the chops to expand worldwide.
Music - “Chopped Cheese” by Supa Ock, produced by Ron Browz.

Chopped cheese or Philly cheesesteak?
They both have their place, but chopped cheese reminds me of back home in the Bronx!
Chimi over everything
A chopped Philly
@@vinceedwards3978 for real, I'm a hairy slut for a cheese steak cuz that takes me back to cruising down 422 to spend the day seeing family in Philly. I been up to see friends in Staten Island who took me around for chopped cheese, beef patties, all the real food... But nothing beats being a kid hating on a cheese steak...
You ain't gangsta till you order the OG! 😎
My local bodega always made me a bacon egg and cheese every morning to take to school. They didn't charge me because they knew my dad would pay for it later. Bodegas always come through for the people on the block.
Nah Frl they really do I used to go to school with a bacon egg and cheese or a bagel cream cheese bacon and jelly with an Arizona and a bag of chips and they knew my moms would pay for it after they always look out
they always gotchu bro, me n my brothers always be gettin shit from our local bodega and the owner, his name is niko, always got us in n out on credit, got my whole family back knowin we always coverin for it later. love em.

Same!
Maybe because they wanted some 😺
1000% please bring this to Philly. Both the chopped cheese and cheesesteak can live together in harmony and be celebrated for the wonderful icons they are.

I’ve seen people combine them
You gotta go to the right poppy store . And ask for a chopped up cheeseburger. We just don't call it that here.
Came to NY from California and watched this documentary and had to try it.
Hands down the best chopped cheese ive ever had. Owner very humble and wish him the best to his business.
This is a man who believes in his product and loves spreading the love through his food. I sure hope you make it to Minnesota!
I swear!! I was thinking the same.. Twin Cities here...
Just anywhere besides North Minneapolis
A series of Jeremy actually going to places outside NY and creating chopped cheeses would be great.
I agree
or his chicks onlyfans would be even better
💯I agree!
@@savzkie Have some respect.
Dear Diary,
It's 11am, and we're experiencing animalistic cravings for chopped cheese sandwiches now thanks to First We Feast.
Will write again tomorrow.
Much love, us.

This channel is terrible for my diet
Gotta make some chopped cheese for maself 👍
NY born and raised, work in a kitchen in Vermont now... I've BLESSED my coworkers with the knowledge and experience of the chopped cheese :)
its exactly what he said, hits the heart too especially if you know the person it comes from. Love NY always
Learned about chopped cheese a while back. Started making them for dinners for me and friends. It's now at least a monthly dinner item. While probably not as good as a NYC chopped cheese, it does the job. Hello, from northern Minnesota
Minnesota here to!
Twin Cities here!!
My bodega hasn't changed in the 18 years I've lived in my current apt in the bronx, same old same old - they know me no matter how long its been since i've been there
When they just start pointing at the food with their mouth full, thats how you know its hittin right
So true! Bodegas were comfort- in the late 70’s we hung out at our neighborhood bodega all the time- caught them before school, after school…Summertime! They were right across from the park/ swim pool- That mom and pop were everyone’s mom/ pop and they treated us like we were their kids💜💜💜
Much respect 🙏, my wife and I have a food truck in the Poconos and we are bringing our version of the chopped cheese to the community. The next time we are in NY I will definitely be checking you guys out.
Aww I love Dave-East in Wu-Tang Clan. Chopped cheese gives me hamburger meets torta vibes. That bbq one with the bacon looks 🔥🔥
I grew up just outside of Boston and I would make this all the time when I was younger this definitely a hood staple when it comes to food.
I made a special trip to Anthony & Son last time I visited NYC after hearing someone describe their FDNY Hero sandwich on a podcast (it's a chickn parm sandwich, but with big slabs of mozzarella, vodka sauce instead of regular marinara, and on garlic bread). Now I have to go back for a chopped cheese. Everything at Anthony & Son looked great, and the line was long but worth it.
That sounds so fire, I’m in nj but I might be otw up there rn for that
@@BitesTheDusto It was pretty damn good. I happened to get it on a beautiful Sunday in September, and then I walked back to Central Park to try to burn off some of the calories. It was a good day.
Holy S&%# !!!! Sounds bangin
Went to his truck the other day on my lunch break…super down to earth dude and makes the best Chop cheese I ever had…Had the OG 👍🏾
Hell yes!!! NYC street food is ICONIC it's the culture and care you just can't get anywhere else. Chopped Cheese is always my first stop when I'm in NYC 🤙🙏
Gotta love New Yorkers. Chopped cheese sounds so fire
This guy is smart though, he can definitely make his bodega truck well known along with making chopped cheese global hopefully. Want that so bad in Chicago!
There's no way a cheap chopped cheese is better than a Chicago Italian beef smothered with that browned mozarella and hot giardniera with au jus or my favorite; steaming marinara.
Aaaaaand now I'm hungry.
New York did not come up with this. It's a southern food called a patty melt and has been around for 70 years
It's just ground beef and cheese with sauce... especially overpriced at 13 bucks at their truck. Yes it's delicious but it isn't an innovation, and certainly not when you can get steak sandwiches just as good for the same price if not less for the kind of meat etc.
@@evilblackcat6357 that sounds so damn good
@@Mrs.Self.Distruct My girl, once you have one there's no going back. If you ever find yourself on the South side of Chicago look for an Italiano pizza joint and ask for an Italian beef, cheeze and peppers on it, with red sauce on the side. You can ask them to soak it in the au jus if that's your bag. I prefer it dry.
Dip that thing in the marinara, take a big bite, welcome the inevitable food coma while the spice and flavor enraptures your mouth. Cross that item off your bucket list. :3
I know all the people in these episodes are always proud of their food and culture which is always a a good thing. For some reason I can feel his passion for what he does and that’s what make this video more awesome.
This guy’s good vibes you can really tell even just watching him through the screen
Story hear me out. Born and raised New Yorker. I had 4 girls from Japan. That NEVER been to the states, and their first night out out had a chopped cheese. When I tell you these girls lost their minds, and fell in love with the chopped cheese to them it was next level.
I love 'Manny the Manager' on the truck 😭🐈 and I love the concept in general, combining a bodega with a food truck.
Super authentic and truly humble ... keeping the old school classics alive , times definitely are not the same .... Bravo to those that have that faith and heart to keep the memories alive 💪🤘
I'm from Sacramento CA flew with my pops to NY on the 11th. I saw this clip 3 months ago and said when I get to New York ima get 1. I met Jeremy today and got my 1st chop cheese (the o.g). It was 🔥 🔥🔥🔥. Thank you Jeremy for making the end of my NY trip so satisfying. My only complaint I have is I shoulda bought 2 of um.....👍🏿💯
This new series is so great. I loved every episode so far.
I’m originally from LA but stay in Las Vegas, if chopped cheese came to the west coast it’s definitely going to sell and blow up quick. It looks so good and can’t wait til it does hit the west coast!
I am from the midwest and didn't know what chopped cheese was until recently and want to try it.I also realized how great bodegas are to many New Yorkers and I wish I had bodegas where I'm from. When I travel to New York City,I know the first food I will try.
Spread the NY food and culture country wide. Do a nationwide food truck tour! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Grew up in New York and I think what messed me up the most was looking at (what was at the time) the 5 cent candies in the window of the food truck. Seeing the bazooka gum, that was a bodega memory there.
Love chopped cheese. Recently moved to Boston and I make it at home and it brings me back.
The chopped cheese from The Bodega Truck are another level of bomb. Soon as I landed in New York went to Brooklyn and got me a chopped cheese from the bodega truck. I’m from California and LA definitely need this!
It was really cool to hear these folks talk ab bodega culture and how much they meant to them growing up
I grew up in Morningside Heights and really found out bout the chopped cheese years later when I worked on East Harlem. Then I took a transfer to Philly where I worked for almost 3 years before coming back to Manhattan. They do not have or have never heard of a chopped cheese in Philly. Also, the cheesesteaks in NYC bodegas are absolutely nothing compared to real cheesesteaks in Philly. The quality of the meat in NYC is steak umms type. In Philly it's finely sliced rib eye steak. A chopped cheese is just a burger on a hero. I may be from NYC but I'm gonna give it to Philly on this one even though I had a chopped cheese last week. I'm going back to visit Philly in a month and can't wait to have a real cheesesteak from Dalessandro's or John's Roast Pork or Jim's. Stay away from Geno's and Pat's. Tourist traps.
Both cheesesteaks and chopped cheese are good! Can’t we all just get along!
Seeing that cat sleeping at the 6:50 mark reminded of that comedian named Rasheed who told a joke on Diddy's Bad Boys of Comedy. "Mr. Rivera...why everytime I come to your store I see the cat sleeping on top of the bread?"😄😄😄
Never heard of chopped cheese before. Expected this to be about some special cheese sauce. It looks amazing and I'm definitely gonna try to make one of these today.
Respect!!! Love Dave East!! Now I gotta try a chop cheese! I'm all the way in Louisiana (born n raised)
I went on Sunday when the Bodega Truck was in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I had the Dominicano 🇩🇴 fries. It was amazing. I highly recommend The Bodega Truck, he posted his schedule for the week yesterday. He’ll be in Astoria, Queens on Friday, I’m looking forward to checking it out again.
Much respect to Jeremy and his bodega truck. Best chopped cheese in NYC
I think a truck like this would thrive in Kentucky. That food looks so good! Great handhelds for after the bars or at the horse track.
I honestly believe in the Chopped Cheese what it represents; bodega culture, community, stoner ingenuity, and family business. The idea that you can get baby formula, a 40, a scratcher, and a fire sandwich all in the same place just doesn't exist anymore. And outside of NYC this truck would kill it. Bringing old NYC vibes to the rest of the nation we would pay for that. Most places still just have like 5 taco trucks and not much else. COLORADO would revere bodega truck don't just stay on the coasts.
The bodega near my mom's would always make me a chopped cheese for breakfast omw to school and he never charged me since he knew my mom couldn't work.
That was 17 years ago and now I own several gas stations and I employ 2 of his sons as my managers for 2 different locations. Sadly the old man passed away from covid but in his memory we NEVER charge kids at the deli. Kids always get sandwiches for free ❤
Looks 🔥🔥 I need to go to NY ASAP ! Wish you the best of luck with your food truck
I saw your truck on Metropolitan Ave by Kelloggs a few weeks ago. I wanted to try your chopped cheese. My mom made it back in the day, except she put bacon as well!!!
As someone born and raised in Miami/living in Orlando, with parents from New York, and a love for the Bodega Boys (Desus & Mero) I have been wanting to try a chop cheese for SO long. I hope you succeed at bringing chop cheeses to Florida. I gotta know what it's like.
I also live in Orlando, kappys subs makes a very similar sandwich…just add some seasoning and hot sauce lol.
HIs explanation is so perfect they gon remember you from child to teen and always look out for you making me miss Brooklyn
I found out about this after I moved away from NYC. Can't wait to visit NY and taste one of these. Growing up my corner Bodega was my go to.
If I learned anything from this its the owner and people that make the Bodega. Jeremy is great but its going to be hard to replicate more of him nationwide. Best of luck!
As a New Yorker, I eat a chopped cheese at least 3 times a week. It is good as hell and I think it should be more popular in other places. However, it's still cool to be a New York thing. You gotta try it.
I grew up in Queens and really never heard of it until 6 years ago. Will have to try one some day
Right I've always wanted to try it. I cant find a spot out here in Houston that makes em
@@yungdro just make your own ?😂
I first heard about the chopped cheese about a year ago from a New Yorker and I’ve been craving one ever since. I’ve thought about driving to New York from Pittsburgh just for that damn sandwich several times. After seeing this video I might finally do it.
Keep up the good work broski I'm from California and now live in Nebraska and I work at the Marriott cornhusker Marriott and I made chopped cheese cuz I saw the videos a couple years back and made it for my employees couple home boys and they love it the same way the classic chop cheese has been or was it still can be on a global scale like you mentioned and I love it best sub or sandwich I've ever had true say🔥👍💯
His menu is my dream! I wish it was available all over the UK.
Hope this becomes a more well known thing, being from NJ never heard of it but it looks so delicious. Would tear up a down the block or a hot chick.
Everything about this video explains why America is great, even if you're from the Bronx! Beautiful!
I'm from Jamaica in the Caribbean and I loveeeeee this.
That chopped cheese looks delicious!!! I want to try it!!!
I wasn't aware this was a locational thing. Born and raised middle of nowhere Missouri, I've been making these since I was old enough to reach the oven.
I hit mine with fries, mushrooms and mayo.
New Yorkers tend to do this thing where they think absolutely everything originated in New York
Yeah, your thing isn't the same, do you use sazon?
what i respect is you giving credit to your lady cause honestly they're that inspiration & 3rd person perspective! #GoodEats #FollowTheMovement
I am loving this series
The chopped cheese looks delicious 🤤
Dope seeing Dave East
So glad I have a couple slices of NY pizza in the oven while I watch this. 😋
Great video!! I grew up in western suburb of Philly and lived on cheesesteaks but I gotta try a chopped cheese in all it's varieties! Please bring this to Philly and all other bigger cities.
I just love this channel!
I guess I’ll be pushing my head chef to put this on the restaurant menu in Norway, this thing is delicious!!
Never heard of chopped cheese. All of it Looks delicious
Im from Philly I am not mad a you. I will put this on my truck menu too, here in Philly. It's not a Philly cheesesteak but it is delicious and the world needs to taste it.
Thanks for the heads up, this WV guy is making my first chopped cheese tomorrow. Great work bro.
I have this at least once a week. It’s too good!
I say this with absolutely zero disrespect, but to me a chopped cheese brings to mind Hamburger Helper as a sandwich. And I don't mean that to call it cheap or low-brow or anything, but more to say it's the kind of food that would bring back major taste and smell memories of childhood and carefree life and all the good things that we didn't know were fleeting at the time. Never had one of these myself, but whenever I head out east I'm going to have to try one.
it is a cheaper/easier to source/prepare cheesesteak by all definitions
Nothing like a bodega or “papi” sandwich like we call it in Newark. Affordable and always hit the spot…and they always know your family lol. Just stoped by the bodega where I grew up just to say wassup and the owner hugged me always been love.
I love and miss you NYC!
I’ve lived in Queens my whole life and I didn’t know wtf a chopped cheese was till I was in my 30s lol. It’s crazy to think that a borough like 15 min away from me is like a whole other world, but that’s NYC for you.
Honestly that's how the whole state is. Upstate is quite different compared to NYC, and each spot has their own unique specialties (for example, Hoffman hotdogs and salt potatoes in Syracuse, chicken riggies in Utica, and Buffalo wings in..well, Buffalo)
I didn't kno what a bodega was til a couple months ago, in Philly it's jus called a Poppy store
Funny how things can be same but called different. Idk how it worked out but BX all the Lil grocery stores became Dominican owned and well name for store in Spanish is "bodega"
Gotta Love it!! Food n Culture n History!!
More of these videos please!
Everyone freaking out over ground beef with cheese and sauce on a bun 😂 this is not a groundbreaking discovery, or even a ground beef discovery rather. Damn.
Really depends where you grew up. I was born and raised in Queens, ate souvlaki (extra lemon juice), Brazillian cheese bread, Jamaican beef patties, etc. But never heard of/ate a chopped cheese. Added to my gotta-eat list next time I'm in the neighborhood.
Head to southeast queens. Loads of bodegas have it there.
I used to get these back in the day. 110th and 1st. Amazing.
Honestly, I live out in Illinois now and I've been saving for a food truck. I've been making Phillies cheese and chop chesse for people and they are going bananas for my tastings. I love the Bodega truck idea reminds me of the Corner store, you know the store you go to no matter what cause of family feel and they don't have that here. Love the content and the passion for that city culture.
Was like “Ebro look wild happy in the thumbnail…” but NVM
Never heard of chopped cheese til now, but it looks extremely appetizing though
You're telling me on all your RUclips travels you've never come across a chopped cheese before??

Can’t wait to see it in La. Cool vibes looks good!!
I’m from Long Island but recently moved to Florida. I made a chopped for my fellow cooks and they loved it. Please come to FL!
I live in Philly and I’ll say from personal experience there are no chopped cheeses here, but cheesesteaks are so much better anyway
Bro. Chopped cheeze is everywhere now. Been done to death. It's a classic gift from New York to the rest of the states.
never seen it in CA
My bro Jeremy, so proud of you and your girl man. Remember what makes the chop cheese special are the ppl making it.
