3D print your own disposable camera lens for Fujifilm X-Mount - futc.gumroad.c...
I fell in love with analog/film photography a while ago and spent an entire year almost exclusively using film for my photography. Especially disposable cameras have such a distinct look that I love. But I was getting inconsistent results and the price increases by Kodak and Fujifilm ultimately made look for a digital film look alternative. That is why I spent the past year finding out how I can replicate the Film Look with digital cameras like the Fujifilm X-T30, Fujifilm X-Pro 1, Fujifilm GFX 50R, Sony A7RII, Sony A7IV, Nikon D2X. These aren't even all of the cameras I have used to try and replicate images with analog qualities. I have heard of people who have bought the Fujifilm X100V or Fujifilm X-E4 just for the Fujifilm Film Simulations to get a similar look to Portra 400, Portra 800, Kodachrome, etc. In this video I go over my process for replicating the disposable camera film look, based on over a year of testing and research.

Such a fresh approach to photography videos on YT. Thanks for all the tips!
Thanks for watching!
Here's the answer: when everyone used film, everyone wanted a cleaner noise free image because it was rare & hard to achieve. Now when everyone has a digital camera and clean clinical images, they want something rare: all that film grain. It's human psychology, and it makes some of us feel good. That's it.
Agreed, but Also, modern cameras are really convenient to use and don’t have the limits (and costs) of film.
Yeah, no ones asking why. This vid is for how to simulate.
Brian Eno: “Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided.”
@@eclapsed except someone is asking why, but if you didn't watch the video..
@@occult.thespians.society CD has no distortion, so that bit doesn't even make sense.
Gawd Damn there’s so much hate here! What’s going on?! This dudes looking at style over substance and yeah he’s trying to get a ‘film recipe’ for a film like look but it’s a specific look. He’s proud of it so stop hating people.
mate there is not a single negative comment anywhere here.....

Really love how these photos turned out! Especially the car ones. Keep it up, brother!
I'vee been thinking about making a disposable lens for months but never had the balls to sink in this much time. You are agodsend for actually sending it.
Just picked up your preset pack from coming across these videos and you did an excellent job, I love these so much and cant help but slap them on almost all my lighroom photos now!
I appreciate that a ton!!! Thanks for your support :)
Loved this! Will try it out. And great tip about the flash photos that we normally don't really do nowadays with smartphones, and if you want to get the film look afterwards with a regular non-flash photo, it's harder than this.
I like the video style with more perspective changes while filming yourself. Very enjoyable to watch
I appreciate it! 🫶 It's more work but I also quite like how it makes the videos more dynamic 😊
Man I just love it! You just go above and beyond😍
Ripping that disposable camera apart to produce these images is just going to the extra extra mile…🙏 I love it!
And the editing also really nails that film look!!
Keep it coming!😊
I really appreciate it bro 🥰 I'm glad the amount of work I put into the videos comes through haha! 2024 is gonna be awesome, many more cool videos to come.
I worked in a photo lab in college, and I can confirm that the capacitor is spicy... Loved this video! Excellent work on the presets as well.
Haha yeah gotta keep a safe distance 😂 Thank you so much I appreciate it!! 🥰
Just got a Digicam from my Father's cabinet - Sony Cybershot. Used this as a guide. Worked great, thanks.
i just remembered this video and wanted to give it a try, works exactly how i wanted it to!
23mm, f22, 1 second (to give it that shaky cam instant film look), iso 51200 (could have gone lower looking at it in lightroom - too grainy), default xt30 flash, film sim preset i already have.
perfect.
Du bist echt der Inbegriff von Symphatisch 😊
Immer gutes Licht dir !
Haha danke das ist sehr sehr lieb!! Mögest du nie deine SD Karte zu Hause vergessen 🙏😁
Dude you're the best. probably my favorite photography youtuber. Never seen anyone share so much info without a paywall and you make it so easy for beginners to find out what to do and try and a list of all your favorite gear? Premium stuff man I support you all the way. Let me know if you want a cool shoot in Utah sometime
Thank you so much man! There's a list of my favorite gear in the description :) I was in Utah last year and it was one of my all-time favorite trips, definitely want to come back in a couple of years!
Your channel is so unique and entertaining, this video was great
I really like the "character" of disposable camera lenses, and I think using one means you open yourself up to all the happy accidents and not controlling the result that much. Congratulations on designing your own disposable camera lens. It took me more than 20 prototypes and tests with different types of lenses, from Fuji cameras, Ilford, Kodak, and Kodak Professional, to find the right focal length and design the lens in a way that is easy to 3D print :-) I really like the look of your lens and the photos you took with it. TOM (at)reusedcameras
I did the disposable camera lens into the body cap thing and I also 3D printed myself an adapter ring. My issue was the focus plane was just wack if you put the lens right into the body without some sort of adapter to offset the lens from the sensor (can move closer to the sensor or farther away depending on intended use).
I'm definitely interested in what testing you did to find the offset for a usable focus plane.
We printed several different versions, the first versions were also way too close to the sensor. We did some math to find a ball-park number and Paul printed some thin rings that he inserted gradually to increase the distance to the sensor and ultimately find the best offset.
Loved the video, dude ! Thanks for all the tips
I appreciate it a ton!! Thanks for watching!
Yessss! You cracked the system ! Now if any one can make a blueprint for a Sony mount.
Man, having that friend that can hook you up with a adapter is incredible.
I just purchased it. Thanks.
This guy is so passionate!
Yeah and I'm never gonna stop doing this stuff because I love it too much 😊🙏
I started shooting digital for the first time only 3 years ago. I bought a CCD Nikon DX. I tweaked the JPGs setting to emulate 2 films. Close enough. I must say the best thing is Auto ISO for me, sounds dumb but that’s the one thing I hated about film, being stuck to a specific ISO for 36 shots. 100-800 is enough when you come from film. I do it all in camera, zero editing.
Aye this is fire!
Thanks gentleman
Definitely putting those settings to use in Snapseed
The answer to your own question at the beginning of spending thousands to simulating shooting on a disposable camera or film in general is simple, Aesthetic appeal!
You can combine the aesthetic appeal of vintage media with the convenience of modern technology. Also depending on how much you shoot, film costs and development can quickly ramp up to more than the initial investment of a digital camera.
Wow!! Nice work!
Just bought all the presets, subscribed and followed on instagram, love the work!!
I appreciate that! Thank you so much 🥰🫶
I just recently found your channel after picking up my Fujifilm X-T3 again, I love your videos and I think you are really cute too 🤭
I appreciate it!
Great work mate! 🙌
This was an awesome video! I've also experimented with a disposable lens and it's quite fun, especially on Fuji and trying out film sims. But I've always wanted to add a rotating helicoid to one of these 3D printed lenses, so you could also do focusing... tho I am also not a technical person so not going to happen unfortunately haha
Really great video! Some truly solid tips!
"It just tickles my brain" will forever be my answer to why, now.
Yes haha it's the perfect explanation
Thank you so muchhh! Very helpfull
Yoooo this looks amazing!
I appreciate it!
Fun video! Any chance that lens enclosure can be printed for micro four-thirds? If not thanks anyway!
Love it ! Will try this on my next trip :)
Hey - purchased both your presets and having fun with them! Just a bit of constructive feedback - a small tweak I would ask for: when saving the preset untick the white balance, exposure and contrast settings so that these aren't reset when applying the preset.
That's great to hear, thank you! White balance should be unticked but I hear you on the exposure, will consider this in the future :)
What about iso? Im guessing the iso in the disposable cam was probably 400 as that was pretty much the standard back then for cheao film (iirc) but interested to hear what others are doing
You can set the iso manually of course, but I just used auto ISO for simplicity :) modern cameras have such good noise performance that it doesn't really make a difference for the images and I added grain in lightroom afterwards anyways so the iso doesn't really matter. Setting it to auto just makes sure you're getting a proper exposure 😊
this video was helpful af
i was about to buy the preset to only realise I've bought all your presets when i bought my first camera 4 months ago, now i need to subscribe as we love the same vibes
love your video style and sharing the knowledge you discovered!
btw is that Aachen in the first picture at the end of the video?
Thank you I appreciate it!!! Yes it is :)
I started my photography career with those disposable cameras!!
I think I did too, when I was about 6 years old haha!
Super helpful man thanks for the tips.
Love it, well done.
Ignore the haters, they are lost.
Super sweet video! I’ll definitely be giving it a try if I manages to get the pieces of this puzzle.
this video was the missing piece for me to finally be happy with making my digital feel like film. Nice work!
Tolles Video und ich mag deine aufgestellte Art. Mach weiter so:)
Amazing man, how can I order that disposable camera lens for my Fujifilm camera?
I love your bryce canyon ut cap! Where can i get it? I don't find it on internet
Thanks! I don't know if you can get it online, I got it at Bryce Canyon 😅
I imagine if I don't have a 3D printer, maybe a dust cap can be used to house the disposable camera lens, it's just a matter to drill a whole in the center for it.
I've seen people try it with a fujifilm body cap but it didn't work well, the distance to the sensor is way off unfortunately
nice video, i would have loved to see more results outside, do your presets work if the scene is more well lit or in nature ?
Thank you!! They are geared more towards flash images, but I've also made a preset for daylight that is included in the pack, and you can use the other ones for daylight as well with some minor adjustments! You can check out the sample images on the Gumroad page there are some daylight, well-lit examples there :)
i'd love to see your comparison of the printed lens against the sort of similar 7artisans 18mm F6.3
Yeah that would be really interesting!
6.3 is practically a “fast lens” next to the disposable 😂
And while we’re going down this ridiculous rabbit hole. Did you know there is a Fuji quick snap tele 100mm disposable camera?
The 7artisans UFO lens is criminally underrated especially if you use a lot of flash. I use it on my main micro four thirds setup and just swap it with the 20mm 1.7 here and there.
@@Screenshot1015 That definitely sounds interesting, might have to investigate 🧐
Oh nice. Der Öcher Dom und der Postwagen.
I bought your Presets. Absolutely love it 🥰
Thank you so much for your support! 🥰
What flash do u use ?
Nice! Don't suppose there's any way to get one of those 3d printed lens designs for Canon EF? been looking for exactly this but I don't have a Fuji camera
you can take a body cap and drill the appropriate size hole for the disposable lens. iirc the one I had was around 16.4mm.
@@thepanduuh I tried this, but the flange distance was off by a lot, so the image wouldn't focus. Could be that this approach isn't going to work for some lens mount systems; I tried it on EOS-M.
@@MrSpeakerCone same happened to me. So I had to print a spacer to move the lens a bit farther away from the sensor. I ended up with about a 1.25mm offset from the body cap (away from the sensor).
@@thepanduuh good to know! did you share your design on Thingiverse? Would be neat to see how you approached this
@@MrSpeakerConeI did not, but it was basically a pasta pot shaped "U" with a cutout for the lens and then a bigger cutout for the 3d printed part. I used different lengths of the "U" walls to space it out a few different lengths before settling on one.
Just to be clear, this is not compatible with Lightroom Classic?
The presets were made for all modern lightroom versions, that includes lightroom classic :)
good camera bro!!! I have one that my lovely and beautiful girlfriend gave me!! I love her soooo much
Great video. Can you and your friend come up with a 3D print file for Sony E-Mount as well? Would totally love that!
Yeah I've been thinking about it and we might do that in the future!
@@futc.photographyLooking forward to it.
What editing software did he use
Lightroom.
Starke Videos und Style!!
Wenn du mal wieder in Köln unterwegs bist und Gesellschaft brauchst sag Bescheid. Bin noch bis Mai da, dann bin ich ein Jahr in Taiwan.
I prefer the caleb salvadori film presets I have tried Dehancer/RNI/Mastin Labs etc
With mirrorless cameras another option it's to use vintage lenses, and you don't need "good" ones, you can buy pretty cheap lenses that have character but that don't sucks as much as the lens of a disposable camera 😅
Hi there! Love the video! I have a x100 with the little efx20. Have you tried using film simulation specifically for this? I know that certain film simulations require altering the white balance. In doing so the flash would skew colors? Would love to hear if you test this!
Thank you! Hmmmm I haven't tried film simulations for this look but that's an interesting question. The Portra 400 recipe I usually have on my xt30 just as a default look has a daylight balanced WB (with a warm shift) so everything turns out fine. I guess you'd have to try some recipe with weird WB settings and see if you get any usable skin tones with a flash. But I'm guessing the recipe's that use very weird white balance shifts are quite stylized anyways and skin tones aren't realistic anymore anyways.
I was wondering if you would make like a tutorial for lightroom I'm still relatively new to photography so a little insight to how you use light room would be a great video that I would watch
I think there already are a lot of Lightroom beginner tutorials on RUclips, I would love to make one but I don't think I would have a lot to add that others haven't done already.
Thx for the great video - I watched the film "Don't Look Away"which uses a similar colour scheme. It is incredibly saturated and I was wondering how they achieved it. (The movie is shite though).
05:44 The editing technique
Glad you like it haha
Not all heros wear capes.
Bro that info got u a sub!
I don't know if someone already did but I'm printing the adapter on Wednesday and I'll share my feedback 💯 (I'll tip after my salary 😮)
I appreciate it! Definitely would love to hear your feedback!
I love it, thank you so much!
Thank you!!!
What a useful video and pleasant guy. Thank you! You've earned a suscriptor! :D
I appreciate the kind words 🥰 thanks for watching!
Great Video. After 20 years of digital experience with a lot of cameras i have to say nothing comes close to shooting analog film. Ask Paul, he knows well😅
Schade, dass die LUTs nur für Adobe Lightroom und nicht für affinity 🥴
As someone shooting film regularly in 2024, I'm not getting the "dark and dreamy" film thing. Unless we're talking about slide film, we would typically over expose for shadows a bit before underexposing for highlights. I'm not entirely sure there's anything magic about color film whether color negative or slides. And good color film tends to have almost undetectable grain. B&W, there's magic there for sure, but it's still more about the process and experience that informs your approach than the output just from it being film.
What editing software do you use?
Lightroom
erinnert etwas an die Zeit, als man Hosen kaufte und sie weg warf, als sie kaputt waren VS Hosen kaufen die extra kaputt gemacht werden/wurden :) Schönes Video! Daumen hoch .. Am Ende gewinnt das gute Bild :)

What is the silver camera at 2:00?
It looks like a Fujifilm X-A5.
or you can just 3d print a mount for the disposable camera lens and mount it to your camera
Vielen Dank mein Lieber das freut mich sehr zu hören ☺️🙏
Amazing video
Thank you!!
Nice! Or you can just use a disposable camera and get the real thing 😀 Also, old digicams with CCD sensors can get this look. My choice is the Canon Powershot G3 but there are quite a few nice ones. Lastly, there are a few great iPhone apps to get the disposable look. My favorite is an app called Sweet Film, it comes the closest to the disposable look Ive ever seen AND it does video. Daze Cam is also really good and then there is NOMO Cam which has several disposable camera simulations. Lots of options.
Yeah Dazz is sick
Need this for my Ricoh GR3 :(
8:28 noooo way omg hell yeah😂
really thought this would be a tutorial on how to use the kodak lens on digital cameras
bro, everything is great, you put a disposable glass on the digital camera, but at the end you edited the photo again...
yes, to mimic the film. The look the lens gives and the look you get from the film are quite different things which you need to combine.
wenn jetzt gerade nicht der 27.02.24 wäre würde ich fast sagen, das mit der Linse aus der 36 Foto Kamera ist ein April-Scherz xD
richtig gutes video :)
Danke für das Lob!
is there a film simulation that can imitate that? :)
Check out my video on film simulations there might be something there you like, but I'm gonna do another video on film simulations in the future and I might try making a disposable camera-like recipe :)
