For those unfamiliar with this portion of the world. Hurricane season lasts from June to November. Peak hurricane season is around September 9th or 10th. I'm going to assume the Caribbean is like Southern Florida here. So I may be off. The summer sun in this part of the world is especially strong. You'll know if you've been out in the sun for a few minutes. You'll feel like you're on a frying pan. That said, I always liked summers in Southern Florida. The only thing to mention apart from hurricanes and a strong sun are the daily monsoons happening sometime between noon and 3 PM. If you want to live on a Caribbean island and avoid the hurricanes you might want to think about ABC (Aruba, Bonaire , and Curacao).

Hi Billy, it really depends on factors such as your rates, types of clients, and jobs you do. But as a photographer/filmmaker, you should be able to live there (or anywhere) as a home base and edit/create from there. You might be limited as far as traveling to jobs outside of the Caribbean, however, as it's expensive and remote without many direct flight routes compared to other hubs. Hope this helps! Why wouldn't anyone just keep their taxes simple and go there for 6 months, fly home and then back again? They aren't providing any jobs to the visitors. As much as the land is reliant on overseas visitors, don't over use water (there are heavy restrictions in parts of Barbados), make sure you are not paying over the odds for things in shops (as it only prices locals out), and make sure the locals have access to their beaches. The land is 22 miles by 14 miles long and wide, lets make sure a land of approximately 300,000 people are not overhauled by outsiders.

I would not recommend this because I lived on Barbados with a visa stamp to prove for 1+year. There is very little to do, it will get boring, quickly. Going out to eat is pretty expensive at fancy restaurants. The food there is NOT worldclass I am sad to say but to import food there is just so expensive. The talent in culinary arts and their exposure to the outside world is limited. Talent do not end up in Barbados sadly. Liquor and wine is super expensive, even if you buy a bottle and open it at home. All food is imported. Gas is expensive. Housing can be had but if you want to live in a nice place in Speightstown, Discovery Bay, Limegrove or Cavehill it will cost you a lot more than 1000USD. Lastly, NO VISA is worth 2000USD to process. What a joke this is. Do not go if you are of modest means. Go to Laos Thailand Ukraine if you want to live at 1/3 of the price, nothing is cheap in Barbados except maybe transportation and labour. Oh and mosquitoes are terrible there.

I'm Barbadian and I can tell you there are some pros and lots of cons....its beautiful but the cost of living sucks....if you're a digital nomad with a family of 3 and your making less than $2500USD/month don't bother. You'll be in debt faster than you can imagine. Everything in the supermarket is about 300% of the cost of the same item in the US on average. Please bare in mind that $2500 is the bare minimum for a comfortable life and 'good' standard of living AS A LOCAL. Expats always have to waste cash learning a new place and paying higher prices for things in the beginning.
I would like to add that I would personally be glad to see more expats in Barbados and new industries that cater to nomads BUT please keep in mind that it is not as cheap as it should be and you need decent cash flow.
    There are some advantages though.
Great food, nice people (most of the time), rum, close proximity to the beach no matter where you are and lots of hideaway spots in the country side. We also speak English and have good medical facilities (big ➕ when compared to places like Cambodia or other nomad hotspots). You'll also have access to most western brands for your usual daily consumables or something of an equivalent quality.
And also don't go walking on any southern or western beaches at night or you'll probably get robbed...better yet don't go aimlessly strolling at night period as an expat. Especially if you plan to live in one of the densely populated areas of the island. The police do their job but can sometimes take up to 6hrs to arrive, ESPECIALLY if you have to call Hastings police station in the south.
I REPEAT...ONLY CALL HASTINGS POLICE STATION IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. Expat Treatment is usually different but just to be on the safe side, avoid that particular police station. They have the worst response time for some reason and interest in your problem is often non existent.
