I’ve gotten the Iceland nomad visa and I would actually recommend this one. Yes, the income requirement is quite high and so is the cost of living, but the benefit is that you can access to Schengen zone for about half of your stay. Hopping to Iceland then mainland Europe can save you a lot on the plane ticket to Europe, especially from the USA. Iceland is magical and you can get a cabin in this magical land fully equipped with Wi-Fi for your stay.
Croatia, Estonia, and Georgia are the most appealing for me. Don't need the beaches and sand as much, and the easy access to the rest of Europe are high on my list of requirements. Thanks for the rundown!
Yes, same here. Just want to swap the outrageously expensive UK for the cooler European cities. I was in Bremen prior to lockdown #2. Missing Germany so much. But, still not fully vaxxed due to autoimmune issues.
FANTASTIC information, as always!! It was really nice to see you compare and contrast the different visas. Estonia seems especially appealing, given it’s proximity to the Shengen countries and being able to call Estonia one’s home base and then extend one’s stay by traveling to those countries, which would be a plus in it’s own right (see more of Europe).
Love it when someone can be both entertaining and helpful all in one :) I’ve recently been testing out the nomad life style and still got a lot to learn!
Thank you for your hard work and efforts in doing this digital visa video for such a new concept. I was unaware of these. I have done consulting work in China and enjoyed my extensive traveling prior to this global pandemic. Currently living in Thailand on an extended stay Visa (Retirement) and enjoy my time with our two young children. Thailand has many positives including the wonderful and friendly people, great foods and scenery and low prices. While it isn't perfect it is a great place to raise children. Buddhists are generally a peaceful and outgoing group of folks. :-) Rob in Thailand.

HI Kristin thanks for another great video. I wouldn't want to go anywhere cold nor to Barbados as it seems over priced for what you get. Out of the European countries I would choose Croatia but I would prefer a western european country like Italy to invent a digital nomad visa and would love to be there for a full year. Opening up some of Europe would assist the economy, especially after covid. Italy would be the best for me as I speak fluent Italian. Second choice would be Greece and maybe Malta. I would also consider Spain to practice my Spanish. There isn't one country in Western Europe that is on the list and the EU takes refugees on boats etc who drain their economy instead of boosting the economy. Caribbean Islands are too limiting and could be boring and after been through 3 hurricanes I am not interested in the Caribbean all year round. I prefer to go to places for one year plus potential extension.
You’re welcome Amira! I agree - I would love to see a Digital Nomad Visa in pretty much every country but especially Italy, France, Germany… and Norway and the Netherlands! Greece just announced something giving digital nomads a beneficial tax rate but I haven’t had time to look into all the details so stay tuned for that! I lived in Malta once for three months but it kind of reminded me of a Caribbean island in the Mediterranean. I kind of got bored after a while...

Spot on about Barbados. I went there on August 8, 2020 using the free online visa form. I did not receive a visa stamp in my passport or any official documentation of how long my visa was good for. I called the Immigration office to find out. They said I had been given 90 days (NOT six months) but I could apply for a 90 day extension for $100 BBD ($50 USD). I did so twice. There are many wonderful things about Barbados but the so-called “Welcome Stamp" is not one of them. I talked to several people who had purchased the "Stamp." There was no added value or special consideration of any kind over the regular tourist visa and extensions. I saw three possible reasons to buy the stamp. The first is for companies that have strict foreign-tax or security compliance policies for remote workers. The second is for families thinking of permanently relocating to Barbados. The “Stamp” might (or not) eventually make that process easier. The third is if your time is very valuable. In all three cases you would probably be better off applying for a special entry visa.
Perhaps a prequel would be a discussion of which tourist visas are legal for nomads. I suspect almost all tourist visas prohibit work, and in the unlikely case that they allow work, would require paying taxes (except in tax-free countries, like Dubai UAE or Cayman Islands). So my guess is that all nomads working on tourist visas are violating the visa in one way (working) or another (not paying taxes). Hence the _'choice'_ between tourist and nomad visas is really a choice about being illegal or legal.

I'm wondering if you have made a video about which companies that you would recommend working remotely for. Or, if you haven't made one, would you consider doing so? Plenty of Latin American digital nomad visas that got no mention here (?). Same timezones as USA/Canada and incredible culture, food, lifestyle, etc. Big miss.

Hi, I subscribed to your channel/blog recently! As an aspiring digital nomad, I moved overseas to Brazil from LA for the first time in 2020 and I was wondering if you can recommend any good international shipping services ? I have big computers to lug around and a recently acquired ergonomic chair (i have no idea how to travel with this). I left my original chair behind in the US that I would like to be reunited with at some point :P It has been tricky figuring out how to travel as light as possible since I work in the gaming industry and do need these larger items. Thank you for any advice you can give me.
Hello Valentina and welcome! The cheapest way to move your equipment around is actually as excess baggage with your airline. It's way too expensive to ship electronics and furniture items that are so heavy. Another option is to rent equipment in your destination or join a co-working space that has extra furniture and computers. But I usually get insurance and bring everything on the plane. Many of my clients are gamers and they do the same. www.pokerrefugees.com But make sure to check with your airline about the luggage policies for such equipment. Let me know any other follow up questions!
@@TravelingwithKristin thank you !! I should have gotten insurance the first time i traveled internationally. I watched from the airport window as the baggage handlers hurled my luggage with my precious computers as hard as they could onto the pile 🥲 hahah xD well i hope to become a travel pro like you someday soooon
Need a RUclips visa.. two to six months to explore the country and pump out a bunch of videos that will help their tourism 😏 The 30-day tourist visas just aren't long enough to slow travel a country or region 🏝️🏞️🏔️🏖️ PS.. liked the gavel blooper Glad you kept it 😉
None of those options seem attractive, moving every three months is an ideal schedule, no extra cost or paperwork - besides who'd want to spend winter in Iceland or summer in UAE - YMMV :)
Understandable! I’ve done a lot of three month stints in different countries but I also like changing it up and staying for a year or more to get a different perspective. I lived for one year and Nicaragua, seven years in Costa Rica, and a couple years in Amsterdam - also 6 months in Australia and Bulgaria. By staying long-term, you can acclimate more to the local lifestyle and culture in a way that’s difficult to achieve in three months. I recommend trying both options at some point! Expect more countries to launch similar programs in the upcoming years - possibly every country in the world at some point!
Please post more. videos if you have the info. I love your videos and need to make a decision within the next 3 months to do. online teaching in a low cost country by the sea, cause Im a water baby.

Thank you for this video. Perfect summary so we lazy people don't have to. Should one wait for this pandemic to pass before travelling to one of these desinations or should one go right away?
You’re welcome, Andreas! Glad the research was worth it ;) You can travel to most of these countries now! Except Iceland still has some tourism restrictions and their visa takes a long time to process. Where are you from?
Malta and Brazil made nomad visas that look pretty easily obtainable. I'd love to do the Portugal one but it seems risky considering you have to lease property before getting the application accepted. Doesn't make much sense.
Thanks for the inspirations. :) Now, how do you get locked down Gov's to issue a new passport to people who want to travel? Seems there is a huge backlog in the States.
@@TravelingwithKristin I'm from the States and it seems like there's a few protests already in progress here. So, my little one would be back of the line. Still, one wonders if they will ever get the new passports issued or are we all behind an iron curtain now, never to leave?

how do you prove that you're getting 3500$ per month if you're from Egypt, we don't have a pay slip and even if they do the company usually don't show the real salary for tax reasons because they pay more, also the social security don't issue such certificates, I myself get my salary cash in an envelope, can't I gust deposit the total year amount in and Estonian bank or what ever the period is, if it's 6 month so be it, that means 3500*6=21000$, would that be enough? thanks in advance for your help, your video was very helpful and informative.
@@TravelingwithKristin Sounds great. Can't wait to hear about it. All the information I can find on current Portugal Visa options implies that you need to own your own business to qualify. I heard that remote work without a proper permit can get you deported if you get caught. Am I wrong about that, or is the risk just so small that it's not worth thinking about?
I lived and worked in the Caymans on a one-year work VISA and DO NOT recommend it all. It is very small, employers have no rules as how they have to treat or pay you, the locals are the have nots & it was impossible to get an address there.

I mean, why make a big deal out of it? I'm not even sure your employer needs to know (unless defense dept work, or similar). And more importantly, if you are doing that, are you just seeing Bulgaria at nights and on weekends? Kinda pointless.

Check out this video for info on taxes for US citizens who are digital nomads ruclips.net/video/bogAhFC7rB8/видео.html and regarding offshore bank accounts, the one I use the most is TransferWise. always wanted to go to Réunion Island just because the shoreline is so cool and i'm into using eroded shorelines for photographic backdrops. Thx for sharing your insights Kristin :)
You’re welcome! If you go to reunion just don’t go swimming because of all the bull sharks! 🙈
@@TravelingwithKristin yah, thx Kirstin; i've heard that before; Island of Sharks they call it and it's one of the top places for shark attack. No, not the way i would want to check out that's for sure!

So useful information and thank you from Calgary!
Glad it was helpful! You are welcome Jean! Thanks for watching!
I really appreciate the information provided in your video . Kindly make one video on the poorest counties in Europe
Thanks! Will see what I can do 😊
Hi, thank you for the helpful information. 😃
It's sparked some new ideas!
I'm a recent retired speech pathologist and I'm single.
I'm wondering if you have made a video about which companies that you would recommend working remotely for. Or, if you haven't made one, would you consider doing so?
I'm interested in part time and living remotely.
I'm also a deep sea diver and love the beach life so this video helped me consider different locations. 💞
Thanks again, Shelley
Hi Shelley, so glad you liked it and thank you for the video request! I have added it to my list :)
Another great, super informative video!

Plenty of Latin American digital nomad visas that got no mention here (?). Same timezones as USA/Canada and incredible culture, food, lifestyle, etc. Big miss.
thank you for the info, which country are in now as a digital nomad?

I loved this video, wanted to know more about the Estonia digital visa for Indians... Can you make something on that? Thanks ❤️

Let me know any questions!
Need a RUclips visa.. two to six months to explore the country and pump out a bunch of videos that will help their tourism 😏
The 30-day tourist visas just aren't long enough to slow travel a country or region 🏝️🏞️🏔️🏖️
PS.. liked the gavel blooper Glad you kept it 😉
I agree! 30 days flies by. And I’m glad you liked the gavel ;) I usually end up with quite a few bloopers so maybe should leave them in more!
Great video! The tax situation, and ability to start a business is probably the biggest factor for me. Estonia looks nice as an EU option.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this video so helpful. Although Albania offers US travelers and EU traveler's 1 year without having to prove income.
Thanks Brandon! Yes Albania is a really underrated option. I recommend it!
But staying 3 months does not give benefit in terms of tax residence. Atleast 183 days should be in zero tax jurisdiction.
Moving every 3 months is exhausting
Thanks for such a wonderful video, can I apply for Estonia if my current job is not remote/online?
Hi Asif! Glad you liked the video. That depends on what visa are you applying for. 😊
Thanks for telling all these to us !
Glad it helped!
@@TravelingwithKristin sure !
Great video. Anything on Asia ?
I hope we hear more about Asian countries reopening and offering remote work permits sometime in 2021!

If you could do one on buying a house in Italy, outside of Rome, in a safe and more affordable area. And on purchasing an apartment too.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll add that to my list.

I will be posting more soon, so stay tuned! 😊 All the best to you Linda!

Hello Kristin...
I like your content video!
Do you can help me, for England how much is cost visa and time you can stay there?
If know more detail please let me know.
Thank you Kristen...
Thank you! Where are you from?
I'm from Bulgaria 🇧🇬 but I'm live in Greece...
@@TravelingwithKristin Sweden. Alright! This is good news, thank you for your answer.
Thanks, loved it
Thanks Denish!!
Malta and Brazil made nomad visas that look pretty easily obtainable. I'd love to do the Portugal one but it seems risky considering you have to lease property before getting the application accepted. Doesn't make much sense.
Thanks for sharing your insights, Claude. You can get more info on digital nomad visas in my new digital nomad visa database bit.ly/DNV_20off
Thanks for the inspirations. :) Now, how do you get locked down Gov's to issue a new passport to people who want to travel? Seems there is a huge backlog in the States.
You're welcome, C! That's a good question... which country are you from? Maybe we need to protest :)
@@TravelingwithKristin I'm from the States and it seems like there's a few protests already in progress here. So, my little one would be back of the line. Still, one wonders if they will ever get the new passports issued or are we all behind an iron curtain now, never to leave?
What about Germany's "Freiberufler visa"?
This video was exclusively about the "digital nomad" visas but I can do another video on alternative work permits as well
Thanks Vampire Kristin, learned alot on this episode! Have you ever worked with a view of the pyramids? Thats my bucket list item :)
Not yet! Hopefully someday soon. I was always so intrigued by Egypt
Very nice vid Kristin, can you suggest any EU country for digital nomads with monthly living cost around 1K-USD pls?

Could you please do a video on how to working in Czechia with American passport. Thanks.
Hi Sunny, yes I’ve been thinking of doing one on the Czech freelancer visa! Is that what you’re referring to?
@@TravelingwithKristin Yes..I wanted to know if Czech has digital nomad and how is it like there. I heard it is not as pricey like UK or Sweden
how do you prove that you're getting 3500$ per month if you're from Egypt, we don't have a pay slip and even if they do the company usually don't show the real salary for tax reasons because they pay more, also the social security don't issue such certificates, I myself get my salary cash in an envelope, can't I gust deposit the total year amount in and Estonian bank or what ever the period is, if it's 6 month so be it, that means 3500*6=21000$, would that be enough?
thanks in advance for your help, your video was very helpful and informative.
So glad you liked it. In that case, you may want to travel on a tourist visa or go to a country without an income requirement.
Surprised I didn’t hear any options in Southeast Asia!
I've heard Portugal has one as well. Do you know anything about that?
They have a popular visa called the D-7 visa but apparently a digital nomad visa is also in the works! Stay tuned
@@TravelingwithKristin Sounds great. Can't wait to hear about it.
All the information I can find on current Portugal Visa options implies that you need to own your own business to qualify. I'm a remote employee for a US company, and I just can't seem to get clarification on if that would qualify or not.
Also, if that's the kind of information you only share with clients, I'm happy to pay. I don't want to take advantage of your willingness to engage with your audience.

I wonder what are the top 6 or so countries for digital nomads, and also for those involved in cryptocurrencies...
Great question! I'll be doing more videos about crypto countries coming up but for now I recommend this video: ruclips.net/video/6qfybxHBZOI/видео.html
There is a BIG crypto community in Tulum. They meet like once a week I think for crypto events and stuff on the beach.

Good idea! I’ll reach out to him
It would great to know which English speaking countries for American expats. There are many countries to like as expat but we can't speak English, life becomes limited ! UK is great but the cost of living is exorbitant.
Good question! The Netherlands is a good one where everyone speaks English. Also Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and many parts of the Baltic states (especially young people in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania)
@@TravelingwithKristin Great recommendations. I was once in Germany (Munich) and it was terrible with English. I was asking for 'salt' in a restaurant and no one knew what it meant. I am interested in Sweden. Some of my friends chose Portugal for cost effectiveness but not sure how much English they speak !
What kind of digital work do you do? Besides you tube of course. This lifestyle interests me as I'll be retiring from the military in a few years:)
I talk more about online income streams here: ruclips.net/video/q9G4EETqxig/видео.html & ruclips.net/video/n_4byfTG3WA/видео.html
Well done Kristin
Thanks Chris!

Hope I am not being obtuse (like usual). So if I am "working from home" for a US company, but doing it in a foreign country, why would anyone not think you are just a tourist, who stays indoors all day, and uses a lot of internet? I mean, why make a big deal out of it? I'm not even sure your employer needs to know (unless defense dept work, or similar). And more importantly, if you are doing that, are you just seeing Bulgaria at nights and on weekends? Kinda pointless.
I've been living abroad for almost half my life without these visas, so I don't think they're necessary in most cases. Just offer some benefits
I"m surprised there was no mention of Portugal's D7 visa.
