I’m using the cobra trail 2021 model at present 7-PW easy to hit and surprisingly good spin got from Jam golf outlet last November after having mud island fatting issues. Like look of the Mizuno and Cobra though
Nice one Dan, like your perspective. I'm still fine with my i525's (more modestly lofted) because they also forgive my habit to stray toe-side a lot with strike. But I do like the looks of the new jpx and zx4. Considering my lack of strike quality I would be better off with a game improvement one, as long as it doesn't feel dead and has little offset - I've tried it, but just can't mentally deal with an iron that looks like a scoop-net to my eye 😄
Brought a 5-PW set of Mizuno MP-25's in excellent condition recently, amazing irons! Forgiving, quite hot off the face but in a smaller head size - 34 degree 7 iron too so not outragously strong. Price was quite good too - £155 per set 😅
AI Smoke is a great range of irons , woods etc. From the standard model to HL and Max Fast there’s something for everyone and the shafts options to make them work. 🎉
Great review, Dan. I've been playing Mizuno JPX for 10 years, and can't wear them out. I love them but I do feel they are due to be upgraded. Glad to see the new JPX made your short list, but will also check out the Srixon and Cobra. Thanks for your honest opinion.
Titliest have always been expensive. The new irons are an unreal price though even for Titliest. If i wanted a new set of irons i think for me visually it would be the Mizuno or the Callaway. I wont get a new set because i cant play with the set i have and they are game improvement irons from years ago, strong lofts slightly longer shaft, speed slot up to the 7 iron you can guess what make they are 🤔. I was looking at a set of p770 but i just aint good enough for these!. Great review Dan and insight
Once again a good review but we have to move away from club numbers to lofts to enable us to have a proper comparison. Manufacturers have to start having lofts not club numbers on the club head like they do for wedges but that won’t happen whilst they can still con us over how far their 7 iron travels compared with other manufacturers.
The Smoke ai are great irons but have an very low launch and flight which may dissapoint most slow swing speed players. I've delofted them progressively up to 2 degrees in long irons to increase descent angle and make them playable.
As I’m aging (70) and loosing distance, I checked out various brands a couple of years ago in an attempt to regain a little of what I’ve lost. Long story short, I ended up with a set of PXG 0211’s. Performance wise, they were no better or worse than all the others but, the price was an incredible bargain. At $90CAD (£51) each, there was nothing even close. So, Boeing retired on a fixed budget, the decision was a no brainer. I have enjoyed what these clubs have to offer these past years and will probably be my last clubs that I own.
the three irons i am pondering about are Wilson Dynapower Forged / Takomo 101's / PXG Black Ops do you or does anyone have views on these irons ? thx great video by the way cheers from Vulcan Canada
I'm surprised the Wilson dyna-power "forged" iron's didn't show up here. Because At 30.5 degrees of loft for their 7 iron, and a very competitive price range, they are great value. Maybe they're in the mid to low category?
We looked at the Dyna-Power but the forged will make another video. We looking at the Dyna-Power but they are being replaced very soon so felt we should hold them back also
@@DanHendriksenGolf Good to hear about the replacement Dyna-power bats coming, here's hoping they reduce the amount of off-set on them this time, as it was the only thing that put me off them.
I did consider whether I should be looking at these type of clubs but the top line visual is always the issue for me & the irons in these categories (whilst undoubtedly would give me the help & distance I need) always push me away -
Agreed, especially since they do, not only a standard loft on the club, but also a power spec loft & a dialed back retro loft as well to suit whatever the golfer needs.
Unfortunately there were a number of top brands that didn’t make top 5 but that doesn’t mean they are not good, just pipped at the line by the others in this video 👍
Im looking to get fit soon for new irons but all new sets are so strong lofted and i feel they look closed at address for some reason. Dont look right to me. Currently still using old TM burner 2 irons and i think 7i is around 31 or 32 degrees and i carry it 175ish. I did buy Callaway irons 18 months ago and they were strong lofted and was carrying 7i 185ish. I hated them. Took a big loss. Can you get new irons with 7i lofts in the 31/32 degrees range?
Why no DTC type clubs which are anywhere between £50 to£80 per club, and from every test I’ve ever seen (including yours) perform every bit as well as these “brand name” clubs ? Vice, Sub70, Eleven, Stix, Calley etc, etc, etc.
Hi Paul, I have reviewed a number of these clubs that you talk about and they are good. I’m sure there is another video down the road for DTC clubs but I am keen on people getting fitted for clubs and there are limitations to that with the DTC brands
@@DanHendriksenGolf no probs! Been playing the D9 forged for a while now but that's probably more of a mid to low HC iron. Been very impressed with Wilson's recent irons so very interested to see what their new range is like.
I play Mizuno jpx 21 and don't know if I can justify updating to the 25 model. Is there much difference between the older model and this new range Dan?
The back of the Callaway looks in my eyes very disjointed. Different fonts colours etc. not a fan of this one. Titliest or Sirxon look at lot cleaner to me
Who doesn't love a good iron test. Great stuff Dan.

All brand names of course! Still interesting! Thanks

Your right in a number of ways Nigel, golfers need to understand the numbers better when looking for control and not just be sold on distance 👍

Comparación con PXG 0311XP GEN 7 con el Kalawey
A very interesting review but I don't know too many mid to high handicap golfers that carry a 7 iron 174 yards.

Fantastic price and I do like that PXG offer this 👍

I know Srixon and Cleveland are owned by the same company. The Zipcore XL’s may have been a better choice for the mid to high handicapper.
I am surprised PXG didn't make the list.
So any better dispersion from the top3 or is Titleist the best?
I would pay the extra for consistency TBH
Hi Steve, are you talking left to right dispersion or overall?
Don’t disagree with your choices, but think there should be an addendum for consideration, the Eleven Hybrids, £90 each and very easy to hit
Yes dan,top 5,are ok but the wilson dynapower beat them all,n needed considering
The dynapower was considered but they are replacing them soon

No P790?? Has to be said tho I’m off 5 and loving my mizuno JPX power bats.
No, we looked at the P790 but felt it may sit better in another video down the road
Very surprised that Ping isn’t in here. Seems like an obvious choice, but that’s just me.
Yes I would have included g430. Guess Dan didn’t get the numbers he needed to make it his top five.
Agreed, especially since they do, not only a standard loft on the club, but also a power spec loft & a dialed back retro loft as well to suit whatever the golfer needs.
Correct, G430 was 6th, nearly made the top 5

I don't play enough to be thinking of changing clubs again - well that's what I'm told anyway 😂
I should add I'm also told that I play too much 🤷♂️🤷♂️
😂
Wilson dynapower £90 per club Wilson Launchpad £65 per club
No Wilson iron on this list! The Dynapower range is highly rated and very competitively priced.
Yeah we looked at it and it would have made the line up but it’s coming to the end of it’s time with Wilson, new one coming out very soon

To be honest, not that I’m seeing personally, but I would need to test a little more, think you could get a couple morse seasons out of the JPX 21’s 😉
Pxg, no mention? Come on Dan, really? 😅. Love pxg xxx

No ping? I don't know about that.
They nearly made top 5, just missed out
T 350 game improvement club ? still didn't stop PGA pro putting it in the drink. 180 quid per club ! LMAO
Ridiculous prices , never buy new height handicap irons unless you go for Wilson ,Takomo or Caley
