Filleting Giant Pacific Bluefin Tuna 65lbs

- The crew on the Pacific Dawn showing you how to cut a jackpot bluefin tuna. Caught on Aug 16th 2014. For those of you thinking that alot of meat went to waste, I personally think he did a good job filleting the fish with MINIMAL WASTE. The center line of the Tuna is the blood line which has un-edible meat. The belly was also kept which was delicious. The little waste there was, was only on the head, which only contains a small amount of meat.

Idk why people are complaining about it being "waisted". Its not. What is left over is being given back to to ocean where bacteria, plant life, fish, crustaceans and mollusks will thrive on it and help grow the next generation of sea life.
I bet that boat had about 20 sharks on its tail with all that blood seeping into the water
Guy: your mangling the fish
Me: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't understand all the haters. He didn't waste much at all! He kept the belly the collars. He missed some on the backbone but not that much. The only part I didn't like is than in the description it says the bloodline in inedible.
0:50
"you're mangling that fish"
lol yep
All that blood looks so gruesome, but that meat looks delish. Thanks for the informational vid man
Maria Stadele Remember where your food comes from. Its also very delicious.
love how smooth the knife goes trough the tuna.
I like these guys that sharpen their knives and don't bother to wipe the metal filings off the knife. Real smart.
around 5 lbs of wasted meat
+xzinx more like 2-3
+xzinx come out and cut thousands of em and well see hows better
so that means you waste alot of meat because you cut them so fast...? lol
+xzinx yes when you run commercial or run a business you don't wanna be sitting there wasting your time on one fish for one specific cut of fish that is only about a quarter ounce more on the original cut learn business its quantity over quality in bigger businesses I'm sure if these people wanted more meat the could have kept the fish whole and done it their selves

This was very calming to watch
Japanese sushi chefs everywhere are cringing at this video.
+borders27 Next time we'll take a Japanse sushi chef with us
Rob's Fishing Channel next time bring a brand new shiney shotgun with you and Kurt Cobain your fucking dome all over the deck of your boat.
Kudos to you man for wearing that cut resistant glove on your left hand. Safety first and everything else is fun..Never mind the haters, you did well on that tuna.Cheers
lol at the people who think they know how to fillet a tuna because they buy sushi from a grocery store once a week.
+frentals Its not easy to fillet a fish properly. These guys have multiple duties, one of which is to fillet our fish. These guys work hard!
+Rob's Fishing Channel no i agree with you. im talking about the people in the comment section
it wasn’t bad at all. 99% of you tubers don’t cut out the collar. He sliced the blood good, didn’t hit the stomach when cutting. Pretty good and fast
😂 love how the guys in background are talking sh#t about him
hahaha @5:25 someone yells, "you guys are wasting everything!". Totally agree, he wasted so much...
Very fluent english lol
it was a joke.. all countries have different opinions of waste.... imagine cutting 200 of those fish in an afternoon... i dont think you'll care about wasting a little bit.
Charles Corrales he said that as copying people like u. That's a joke.
Charles Corrales that dude is mocking people like you lol.
The guy cutting the fish predicted it perfectly... tons of shit talkers in the comments.
Everyone seems to be a Tuna fillet master in here lol.
I watch deermeatfordinner and I can tell you wasted ALOT of meat
+Just Some Guy You're probably watching them fillet fish with out side bones...But show me an example of the video. Im pretty sure they would fillet it the same way.
+Rob's Fishing Channel so many whiners about wasted meat. Next video you should throw all the filets back in the water and keep the skeleton. im sure theyll love that shit.
lmao so much wasted
NastyLinen LMFAOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
I love dmfd
Lmao all these people whining about his filleting skills. It's his fish! Let him do what he wants. He threw some of the "wasted meat" into the ocean anyway, not the trashcan. The fish in the ocean below them got a nice dinner :)
LYFTED The guy's doing all this on a moving boat! And besides, he seems to be having a good time?
I like the guy in the background who called everything lol he was like watch your viewers are gonna say you're mangling that fish and then at the end he was like your wasting that fish lol also you just earned a sub nice filleting the fish
called it lol
lmao at 5:32 "internet people are out of control, dewd" hahahaha guess so.
looking @ the comments on this video, they certainly are. lol
That tuna is a paid actor.
I really enjoy watching the guys fight in the comment section. Funny AF
For those who are slow in the head.
Taking the cheeks out is only worth the time when you have nothing more to do. If there is more tuna to cut you are wasting the tuna and raising the price of the remaining one since the supply is reduced.
The cheeks aren't wasted since they are eaten by other fish.
It would only be a waste relative to human consumption if they took the time to take the cheeks out when they could be cutting more loins.
He's filleting it good with his sharp knife
Man this guy wasted a lot of meat
Half for humans and half back to the sea. At least he's fair lol
+aronvo lol
+Sinjinbin64 Sinjinbin64 well he's wasting an endangered specie if your gonna catch one at least eat it all (I'm fine with eating animals but they sacrifice there lives for use to eat so I think we shouldn't waste meat and fish
George Abdo ikr
George Abdo true man he threw a masive piece in the water
Lol just imagine a shark jumps out of the water and try's to attack, I was thinking there was gonna be one cuz of all that blood
Your “giant” pacific bluefin are like footballs compared to the truly giant bluefin we get up here in New England.
The reason they are joking about comments telling them how much fish they wasted is because they know how shit they are at what they do
so many people die in hunger and you thrown a tuna with flesh thay can still be eaten in the open sea. Very good.
You want the best part of the fish. Not the fucking blood line you people who keeps on commenting on about how he wasted the fish.
I know right
Man this guy wasted a lot of meat
+George Abdo he didn't waste one bit. The rest went right back in the ocean where other sea life like crabs or lobsters have fed of it.
+Kevin Abla wasted good portions of the fish plus his cuts are shit!
I heard one of you guys say it’s endangered well the pacific blue fin tuna is a vulnerable species meaning they are almost endangered
if you think about it, whatever he threw back in the ocean is food for other fish. our trash is someone else's treasure
How to forget to bleed the fish and then filet it like it’s your first time holding a knife
hold my beer and watch
That was definitely not a 65 lb tuna but nice quick job nonetheless. May have "missed" a little meat, but the only people who are complaining about that are people that don't clean fish, have never had to clean dozens of tuna in less than an hour, or those that live in extra rural areas and need to actually get as much meat as possible regardless of quality and taste so they can feed themselves more. These cuts had next to no bloodline, bones, and gut meat in them and that is what most fisherman who aren't hurting for money want from their fish. Plenty to eat and no additional preparation required.
Great camera man
got your self a new sub
thanks
Nice cut, look like so profesional
Those pec fins sauted in butter are delicious!
+Timothy Kush Can you show us how you prepare it?
Rob's Fishing Channel
I dont have a video nor am I any kind of a cook. Fisherman taught me this once. But basically you take the triangle of meat that is attached to the fin (usually it ends up being that shape after the fish is cleaned) and drop it in a pan of hot butter or olive oil with fresh cracked pepper. Cook to your preference. The meat in that little area is incredibly tender and flavorful. Hope this is what you were looking for. Nice video, thank you!
Man that knife slid through that fish
not many people can be very lucky go to ocean and fishing tuna like you guys. We are watching here are looking for some food that you wasted on the sea ! Darn it
Nice cutting. Why did you let the midpart to waste? Food for the fish?
It's the bloodline, which has disgusting, undesirable meato
Oh man so much wasted meat there. Tsk tsk.
+JayR B. not really
not really a waste if a shark or other fish eat it, or maybe seals, giving back to the ecosystem
Well if that's your intention to give something back then it's not a waste.
+JayR B. well I'd say just say look at the bright side of what it did
+JayR B. there is cuts of meat that don't taste so good. should they send that to u? and when they put it back it does get eaten by other sea creatures? u ever wasted food? yes? ok then.
You are such a pro.
Rest in peace fishy👰🏼🙏🏻
The best kind of education. The gory one.
So much wasted, the head is the best part. Bad fillet skills
so much wasted
+FlameIsMyName Snipe and your dumb.
Not everyone eats the head
+mas bro Im sorry , I just don't like the head
MaxALLMYD Outdoors & Gaming in my country, all the meat are used, nothing waste except the guts. the head are the most expensive part once in a curry.
giant Bluefin?that's a schoolie at best
To people that buys bluefin tuna in the market for over $20 a pound, that is a lot of waste. But in real world, this is how fisherman fillet their fish. I would be sucking the meat off every single bone of the fish if it was me. But it is what it is.
You mean you would be sucking the meat off the bone of every fisherman.
+Albert Ledesma lmaoo
+Albert Ledesma L
It is seldom that a giant bluefin sell for 20 + a lb in today's wholesale market! Retail is a different animal altogether. I think that is what you meant to say.
I am a fisherman, and I do not do such thing. So you can't marginalize or stigmatize an entire group of people based on the action of this person.
Damn dude you done threw half the fish away
It would've been more interesting if a shark showed up after that guy threw away those bloody waste.
CLEAN CUT ALSO!!! guy took his time cutting this one ( usually doesnt happen haha)
My Question: How can he maintain his focus on his work and not get sea-sick or get dizzy from the motion of the boat?
I would get dizzy doing this.
What brand is that knife.good job
Awesome video quality
+schlaznger Thanks!
Yummm, lead knife shavings. Adds flavor and iron.
Lead? You stupid fucker
MMMMMM !!! All that Mercury and Radiation !!!!!!!
love the conversation
smashLC which part haha
Rob's Fishing Channel All of it.
+smashLC here here
when i see westerners fillet their fish, i always cringed from the lots of waste. so much for eating every part of them to respect the animals who died to feed you
+adminme The best videos I have seen on this have been from Westerners.
Before being racist against them remember that you are using their inventions to do so.
+Ιωάννης Λέπουρας How am i racist though? and did i lie about Westerner only care about the fillets part, not the head@skin@parts that need more preparation? Keep your bigotry to yourself pls. and btw, 2/3 of yt inventors are from Asian's descendant. booo
adminme Lol, you just proved your racism further.
Of course I disagree you ignorant racist. 2/3? AHAHAHAHAHAHAH
+Ιωάννης Λέπουρας racist-a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another. hurley, chen and karim. learn
adminme That's what you did you moron..
What was wrong with the other half of the fish
what you do for sea sickness?
i got dizzy by the waves by watching this cadaver massacre
What happen if you deepfrie a tuna?
Denize attığın parçayla 2 aile geçinir ağabey ne yaptın sen 😂
They could've made a nice tuna soup with all those pieces of meat that were thrown to the sea.
what is the use of catching if 80% thrown
72 under yes, but bluefin have only 42 MAYBE....!!! aaah fucking people what... -.-"
he did a fine job. No belly meat and no blood line. Not a bid deal.
+casf120 The belly meat was saved
I don't know what part of the fish is wasted. Once the meat is cut the tail is just a spine and ribs. And the fillets have bone in them as well and that's what he was cutting off.
i agree!
Did you use One Knife to sharpen the Other ??!!?
he used it to hone the blade.
the fish head had a fucking sticker on it
Porque tiras los restos al Mar?
This actually made me feel dizzy
Blue fin??? Jumn!! I can see the yellow fin !!!
+everydayimhustler I was thinking the exact same thing but im no fisher man lmao
Bluefin also have yellowfins hahah
Damn! here in the philippines each meat of that fish will not wasted , We will grilled that whole fish pairing with a cold beer .
where is the giant bluefin?
No wonder sharks are lurking around
5:24 a guy says u guys are wasting everything lol. Take your time, no rush but keep in mind none of the fish goes to "waste" the crabs other fish and birds will eat what he decides not to keep.
That head could have been sold for 15-25 bucks easy
tell me what was wasted
Fishing life most of you humanitarians won't understand
right? they're doing the best with the time and resources they have... time is limited and so are resources...yet they expect it to be like a manufacturing company...
What it looks like when you don’t bleed fish
In Malaysia u can make curry fish head with the fish head. And can cost you almost Rm100 per piece.
This guy has a profession in serial killing if he ever decides to go that route. 😳
Why did you throw the heads away? 😳
you wasted quite a big chunk of meat, just because you didnt want to pick out the 15 bones or so :(
The meat in the middle is a blood line that has a very fishy taste to it and is not a desired meat to eat
+Darren Nguyen correct, it well known that you don't eat the blood line
When he broke the stomach and polluted every single fillet he cut it was a done deal already. Who the fuck does this to fish let alone tuna? To wash all that gunk out you would be absolutely ripping apart the soft meat if it washes that acidic shit taste out at all.
Fuck all of this. How the fuck is there "MINIMAL WASTE" in caps in the description. Top joke of 2014
I just got sea sick watching this video LOL
+Danial Fanar really? haha
+Rob's Fishing Channel yea, I been on multiple boat trips every time man, I took the pills did the rest band did the thing behind the ear, still hurling my brains out
I don't think you're wasting anything you know exactly what you're doing
Thanks for the support
but that did not catch you until the price is stuck on one side, it shows at 1:45, but the cut is perfect and with that knife they can cut a mosquito in flight
I never get my fish fileted on the boat because there is so much waste. I know a lot of people don't mind, and I know the deck hands need to process a lot of fish... But it makes me quite sad to see such amazing fish get wasted
Its killing me in every way that he just sliced right through the belly without cutting off the head and not going down the spine. Ugh. Fucking rookies
wtf people talking about him wasting it? he did a good job of cleaning and getting the edible meat..... they did a good job not wasting anything, people are dumb lol
Thats really fresh fish..
Is this tuna fish okay ?
people thatcsay they are waisting, you do know there are more fish in that water right?
I was waiting for the giant tuna. Saw none
Giant bluefin tuna??? Where the hell do you see giants???
