I’ve had that tent for years, and it has been amazing, I’ve had no leaking, no problems, and I love it. Side note, it maybe a batch thing or because this one is just newer, but mine is a much darker green that has helped me on many stealth camping nights.
@@adriant1940 I’m sorry it didn’t come in the darker green, I wonder if they chose to change the colors? Shortly after I got mine, it went out of stock for over a year, so I wonder if they were doing a big change on some of the small things. Another thing was mine had no loose threads, but that’s a small detail
Using flat camouflage color spray paints works wonders for gear that does not match your environment. I live in a desert and use allot of tans and browns to blend in solid green tents and tarps.
For the money, weight, and size, I think I’ll stick with my LanShan 1 Pro. I love the brown color. As for the Winterial, I’m a little concerned about the combo of the loose pitch and zipper flap causing leaks. Small tents are not fun places to wait out bad weather.
If this Winterial Bivy tent is almost identical to the Snugpack Ionosphere apart from a few very minor differences, then it will be very interesting to see how well it performs in a good rain test and for condensation, it's got the good price going for it as well as pretty decent build quality. As for the colour, I'm with TOGR, it's a light minty green, not very stealthy but some people might like it, it's not bad but I'd prefer it to be something more along the lines of a dark green or other similar colour which blends itself into the woodland/forest foliage better.
I think I am in too small of a minority of population for a tent like this to ever work for me. At 6'3", the tent is too short in length, width, and height for me to be comfortable; I'd need it to be at least 1' longer, 6" wider, and 6" taller. I also have concerns about air flow with a tent this small, as I sleep best when the temperature is in the low 60s (F). On that note, I'd love for you to include temperature and humidity readings (inside and outside the tents) in your testing to give real data regarding tent air flow. Whether you decide to do this or not, you're doing God's work on this channel.
Sierra Designs High Side is pricier than the winterial, but it has better quality materials, is lightweight (just over 1kg), and is longer. Could be a good option.
I guess that I have some claustrophobia... because I don't wanna be slid into an MRI machine, or see the lid of a tanning machine come down on me. And I ain't sleeping in a tent THAT small. I will carry the extra weight to sleep in a bigger tent than that. The term CASKET comes to mind. Once again, I will laud the 5 foot by 7 foot A frame trail tents. The Texport, Green River, and French F-1 are all close in weight to that thing, and have much more floor space. Unlike your perspective, the green is a fine color for me. Zippers look large and easy. I will predict that it won't leak. But it is a CASKET. I gotta have more room than that.
I purchased my back in 2019 and I have no problems with it. But my look is a little bit darker than that one. I also use camo netting on top of my and I completely disappear in the bushes. I have no complaints about it. And the price was good. I pay 110$ back then in Amazon.
Hi Luke, I’ve been using a Winterial Three Person tent for a few years now, it’s done the job for us at a reasonable price. It’s not fancy but not bad quality at all. Looking forward to your tests on this one.
I bought this Winterial Bivy tent (in orange) thinking it would be good to take on winter hikes in the WMNF above treeline, just in case I have to shelter due injury or sudden storm. I haven't had to use it in those situations yet, but it gives me peace of mind knowing I have something substantail to wait out some challenging conditions just in case something unforeseen happens. I probably would choose something roomier if I were on a 2 or 3 night backpacking adventure.
Always appreciate your reviews of high value quality gear. I like to pack light but I'm not going to waste hundreds of dollars just to save a few grams. Thanks.
I've still got an old Walrus Microswift, which was similar and fairly state of the art >2 decades ago. Packs pretty small, 14 inch rugby ball size, 3.5 pounds, and very tough and pretty weather tight with a chimney to vent warm moist air. Nothing stealthy about the original grey/gold color scheme though, and a bit of a chore to get in from the far end. Peak height was only 2.5 feet. Of course our "three" person zpacks triplex packs smaller and weighs a pound less, but these little ones are great when you need an extra tent for an extra kid or friend (or dog).
I know that you don't like the color, but from the camera perspective, it seems to blend pretty well with the NC foliage in the background. You can always carry a camo net to throw over top of it!
I do enjoy watching your reviews and insights ,,I have no intention of buying this item as I have the tent I trust,,but in conversation yesterday talking about my young days and canvas tents ,, whatever became of canvas and fabric tents,,seems to me stealthy tents need to be less noisy as well as dark green!!!
The Winterial tent was always the closest option that I saw to an ionisphere. I investigated it when I bought the ionisphere but ended up going with the Ionisphere instead mostly because the pack is more compact and will fit easy into a backpack.
Great review, just hate these types of tents. Not really claustrophobic at all, but these seem too close to being coffin-sized. I like a tent where I can squat upright in it and not hit my head on the roof, 24" is too low for me.
Yes, this tent will leak. I love the clips vs the sewn in tubes. This tent won’t work for me. I’m a bit of a silver wolf and move slower and don’t bend like I used to. The 2 sided opening isn’t big enough, the tent isn’t big enough. I’m 6’4”. I love the price. I don’t give a hoot about the color but my favorite is the OneTigris dark gray. The design is perfect (except for the door). Sadly, I won’t be getting this tent
I used to use a bivy and a special beaver tail pack from Moonbow that made the bivy the pack body that hold your gear. So you can fold the bivy, pad and bag into one unit your gear goes in the middle and folded and the 1 lb beaver tail pack compresses it into a hard stable unit. Set up camp in 2 minutes.
I got a Coleman 2 man dome tent for $5 at a garage sale. I’m on year 3 and no leaks. I haven’t even tried the $7 dollar tent I got at a different sale. I did buy a aqua quest tarp for my hammock that I always bring. I got tarp poles for $3 at a garage sale that I can use anywhere.
I own a Snugpak Ionosphere and I think it's the best bivy ever. Completely waterproof and plenty of room for me and my 65L pack inside and I see it priced mostly at $250. online. The low profile and olive drab green color, make it a very effective, stealth-camping tent. This Winterial is nice but much smaller inside yet much easier to get in and out of than the Ionosphere. I'd like to see a rain test to see if it's actually waterproof and what's it's like in windy storm conditions.
I think this tent WILL leak Luke💧it just doesn't seem 2 water tight the fold overs @ the door look a bit flappy & could let in water but ur future test on it should decide the verdict!! Stay safe Luke!! Looking forward 2 ur next review!! 😁👌👍
Thanks for the review, Luke. I like the tent (provided it does not leak, of course). I think this would be good for stealth camping IF it came in more useable earth tone colors or a good camo pattern(s). But for me I like the ability to at least be able to sit up to read a map, change my shirt/socks, etc. If I was in a situation where I wanted to stealth camp, I think I would choose the Catoma Wolverine EBNS as it comes in a more useable camo/coyote brown colors, is easier to deploy, and is as light or lighter. But it too does not allow you to sit up without opening the tent. Therefore for a bit more weight (due to a second door and additional poles) , I would choose the Litefighter tent, although that tent is considerably more expensive. Glad to hear/see that your family is doing well and that your cabin is re-waterproofed.
Crazy timing on this video. I have been looking into bivy tents for stealth camping. And this tent in particular I checked out. Snugpak was out from the get go because of the cost. I simply was not going to pay 300 for a bivy. Honestly the inconsistency in weight claimed and actual, and the claimed material differing I am kinda meh....and will probably keep looking. Thanks!
Great set up and go-over. I have a Winterial tent cot. I've used it in everything except snow and it's great quality. If this is built anything like that tent, it won't leak! I can say their customer service is top notch, as I broke a clip on mine (My fault after a few too many beers) and they sent me a whole set of 4.
Nice tent! I like that you get in at the side, and don't have to slide in at the top! Luke, did you see Jack Wolfskin have updated the gossamer tents, to make the poles now easily slide into a standard grommet, making it much easier and also lighter? Worth a look!
I have a Forceatt one pole, one person tent, but I think I like the Winterial better. The Forceatt doesn't have any extra space under the fly whatsoever (my biggest peeve about it), the door is at the head of the tent, making getting in and out trickier, and it has pole sleeves. On the plus side, it's a darker green and has more headroom than the Winterial. I could probably fit my ruck inside if I had to, but I haven't used it in more than a very light rain so I just put my poncho over it and tuck under. It's worked so far, but I'd like a proper atrium/vestibule. BTW, I was gonna say, "Winterial? What do Californians know about winter?" but I guess they have *some* mountains.
Ive had mine for 5 years now. I dont beat on it, and ive retreated it once, but i think its a great little tent if youre not the type to 'camp' inside the tent the entire trip. 😂
What a great price, I have many outdoor research bivi tents and the prices are outrageous. Looks like it’s time to sell and reinvest. Thanks for the review and your channel is one of my favorite channels.
I love my Winterial Bivy Tent. I tested it in a Nor'Easter here on Long Island last year but under a suspended tarp so I'm still not sure If I need to extra seam seal it or not. I don't think I do. I only experienced a bit of splash up under the rainfly when I pitched it in a dirt patch. But I think In grass there wouldn't be any issue with hard rain splashing up under the rainfly. I did experience a lot of condensation but maybe I pitched it without letting enough airflow in. But I did love how warm I felt inside of it despite the windy conditions outside. I really look forward to your rain tests with this one. You experience much larger thunderstorms than I do and I'd love to know how this would hold up if I did take it on a bad weather journey.
Hi Luke! This is HILARIOUS! I say that because I sent you an email back in, I believe it was sometime 2018-2020; I know. It's a long time period. Anywho, I sent you an email about my 3 person Winterial that I absolutely loved and it did nothing but perform for me. I still have the tent but haven't used it in awhile because I've been camping with a friend of mine and we use her big Coleman tent. I'm sorry I didn't have the $$ at the time to send you the one I had to test but when this video came up, I laughed out loud! It's not the first time you heard of the brand because you replied to my email. :D
Bought one. Set it up. Slow rain over night and all I needed was a bar of soap for the shower/bath I couldve taken. My cousin ordered his the same time as mine. Not a drop in a 3hr heavy downpour. So...Id order it then set it up and put a sprinkler or something and check it. Mine was this ugly green my cousins was darker. Not sure why.
Not a fan of coffin tents but it’s great to see someone pick up where the others left off. Side note, any word on when you’ll release the rest of the Onetigris Roc Shield testing? I believe the preview is the only I’ve seen.
I've had this on my Amazon wish list for a long time now, but don't want to pull the trigger because I am not familiar with the company. Can't wait to see the full review so I can maybe finally make the decision!
Hello luke thanks !but the Gosammer 2 is and belive my one and only Bikepackingtent after 2 years no issues realy no ones with that! greetings from Germany!
I don’t like the color either. It’s a bit small for me. I have a one tent which I don’t know what brand it is but it is much larger and has more headroom. It also has two vestibules for storing gear ect. I’m going to stick with mine. I bought it used on EBay for under $50.00. It’s been a great tent and it is lightweight. Good review. Thanks!
I like the entrance access better than the Ionosphere. I'm getting older and it sucks getting in and out of that Ionosphere through that small door opening. Crawling backwards in the rain sucks too.
It looks very much like a Eureka Spitfire 1 I've had for years. Same form and same features. The only reason I bought it is because it's under 3 pounds and I thought I would hike with it. Never used it. It's claustrophobic. Like an MRI tube. Much prefer my old dome tent.
I own an older model ionosphere. The side entry is a much appreciated upgrade. The sleeves don't bother me however. Lantern hook at the top however is absolutely the feature I wish the ionosphere had to the point I might try to add one before my next trip. Also I recently discovered the opeongo aerial a1, it's very unique, you should definitely look into reviewing it.
I will say I'm glad I got the original ionosphere many yrs ago. The other main difference which a bit nicer about this one is the entry/exit is easier on this one. I'm not a fan of the color as well. I've seen this maybe 2 yrs ago for the 1st time but didn't feel lured to it, I also thought is was a cheap China copy attempt.
I like it. It would be rare for me to camp w/o a tarp (PNW region), so leakage isn't critical for me. Nice little tent, love the side entry feature too.
For $100 I'd be happy with this. If it leaks, I can put a cheap tarp over it for less than the cost of a Snugpak bivy and I can use a OD green or camo tarp if I really want "stealthy".
Some of those north Georgia boys will love that color. Don’t you agree? Since you were hinting at their fascination with Deliverance in your last video 😂
I don't think it will leak. Decent materials and seem taped. I think there would need to be some massive qc thing (like the rain fly on the zipper) for it to leak.
May I ask as a 5'2 woman what would be a good stealth tent like this for me? I wanted something sorta like this and had been looking up bivy's because it feels easier to hide something like this, especially since all I will have with me is a bookbag with a few supplies of no perishable foods, a large water container, a solar powered light, a book, and a first aid kit. I just don't want to be easily discovered since I'd be by myself.
This bivy is on my wish list at am.... azo ... n. I've seen all the other RUclips reviews about it. And then you come along and make a video. Well, excellent. If I buy it, I actually intend to do so in about 2 months, I'll pay a lot for it. I'm from Brazil and it costs me five times as much to import it. But I should buy it. Editing the comment: Now I don't know anything anymore. I imagined this was a bit better, I imagined it was made of nylon, but there is bad faith from the manufacturer in the description. I want a bivy for stealth camping in shtf, something light that can stay in my backpack, I already have a tent, but it weighs and is something to be carried only on the bike. I intended to buy the geartop camo, it would be much cheaper for me because I can buy it direct from China, but that red-haired guy made that review showing that: that bivy can't withstand the rain. So I gave up on it. When you do the field test of this bivy, if a single drop of rain gets inside it, I won't buy it anymore.
Thank you, Luke. I like your reports. The weight of this tent is a pound higher than my Durston X-Mid 1P standard version COMPLETE, not a light weight version. The Durston will cost more, and have much more room. And weigh less. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Nice little tent. Personally, I think the color is nice. Not everyone is using a tent to stealth camp, and not everyone likes OD green or brown.

I was lucky when I got my ionosphere. I got it for like $130. Set it up in like a week worth of rain….no leaks at all….I love it
Judging from the slight sag I see in the pitch I would worry that a heavy rain would pool on top. I hope it tests well but have my concerns.
Luke I agree I would rather have the orange than that grain but it's an easy fix get a six-by-six camo tarp to drape over and stake down

I'm still happy with my Ionosphere, but if the Winterial is any good, I might try it on my next stealth camping adventure!
I have a Catoma Raider bivy tent, I love how small bivy tents compact down to. Perfect for bike packing.
I've had this on my Amazon wish list for a long time now, but don't want to pull the trigger because I am not familiar with the company. Can't wait to see the full review so I can maybe finally make the decision!
Hello luke thanks !but the Gosammer 2 is and belive my one and only Bikepackingtent after 2 years no issues realy no ones with that! greetings from Germany!
i dont care for the preview videos. I like the begining to end and thoughts. a complete episode imo
Would love to see your review and test on Coleman Tents. Especially the Coleman Darwin 3+ Tent. It's like $110 in India.
Great vid luke Can't wait to see a rain test! Need Darker colors as well. Even a coyote brown would be cool as well, Cheers brother! ✌
My ionosphere alternative is a Durston x-mid 2 haha. Surprised you haven't reviewed any Durston tents!
Been watching this tent on Amazon for a while. Really looking forward to seeing the rain test
Hi, this is Santos from New York. I would like to see you test out the tent in the rain. I would like to see if it leaks. It looks like a good tent.
❤love you Luke but I as a woman like that soft green. I really appreciate all your good information. Say hi to Susie she's so sweet.
watching this makes me wish TOGR would review Australian Swags and Swag tents. They really are a class of their own.
It's a nice-looking tent. It's a great price, too i have one them tents from battlbox that look like them
I'll be waiting for your testing phase, because I'm interested in this one.
I can’t wait for all these videos!
Some of those north Georgia boys will love that color. Don’t you agree? Since you were hinting at their fascination with Deliverance in your last video 😂
You did a review on the jack wolfskin gossamer 2 p tent they, also make a 1 p version
Please check out the tucker waterproof bivvy tent, same price range and features but better colors. Please test it for all
My bet is it will not leak, it will do is get wet inside, from the rain drop splash effect, during hard rain events.
Luke you're hilarious, "that color!? Arrghh!" Nice review!
The snugpak killer already exists, it's the jack wolfskin gossamer 2. This one does also look very promising however.
The color would work well in my area with all the sage brush.
Hey Luke.. would loved to see you review the Mountain Cattle one man stealth tent😊 great waterproofing, ripped stop material
They need to make it in camo or a sand or fde color...thatd be awsome
I don't think it will leak. Decent materials and seem taped. I think there would need to be some massive qc thing (like the rain fly on the zipper) for it to leak.
Can’t wait to see if it leaks !
I have it in my amazon cart. waiting to see ur review for it.
Man Luke, makes me wanna sell my ionosphere....I paid $140 for it in 2019.....can't believe they want $300 for it now
May I ask as a 5'2 woman what would be a good stealth tent like this for me?
Editing the comment:
Now I don't know anything anymore.
When you do the field test of this bivy, if a single drop of rain gets inside it, I won't buy it anymore.
wow that finally looks like a great value for something this shape
Getting in and out in rain would be a nightmare whereas the Ionosphere is top entry.
Excellent review, thanks. Keep up the good work!
Really appreciated Luke. Thanks for the honest review.
It’ll leak like sieve Luke !!! 😂😂😂 don’t forget to bring ya waterproof boots and pants when testing !
That would be cool if it was camouflage and it doesn’t leak. Can’t wait to find out if it leaks.😊
It's cool but I'm not a stealth camper.
Due to the fly over the zipper or rather the almost lack of one, i say yes it will leak at the zipper
Thank you, Luke. I like your reports.
The weight of this tent is a pound higher than my Durston X-Mid 1P standard version COMPLETE, not a light weight version. The Durston will cost more, and have much more room. And weigh less.

It's sort of like the oex phoxx 1v2 but slightly bigger
You sold me on the Snugpak 2 year’s ago...hate to see what that costs now if the Ionosphere is over three hundred...
