When you activate the 4 x 4 throw in a neutral or you will break the transmission

Nah, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He probably turned the knob to low range in park, then went to put it in drive and as soon as the PCM realized neutral it shifted the t-case and slammed into low range because the band in the trans was already clamped by the time the actuator shifted range. That's literally the only way it could've happened, because turn knob and push button from 97 when it was put in Ford vehicles to present day have ALL had neutral safety and brake switch interlock, so the vehicle doesn't roll away if you hit the button or turn the switch and to also hopefully prevent what I described above. The relay for the actuator will close in park, but unless both the neutral safety switch and the brake switch are closed circuit, there's no power going to the contact on the relay that closes when you turn the knob.
If your going to put all of those nice parts on the Harley truck please get it painted... At the condition it was at you would have made more money off of it converting it to a normal F150 and selling off the fancy Harley interior.... At this point it just seems useless if you don’t go all the way to fully restore it...
He would have to spend more money to buy a base interior and hope that someone is interested in buying the Harley interior soon. Add to that the time it would require and it just doesn't make sense.

Yup, and I believe '01+ is when they tied the brake switch into the neutral safety so it won't drop into low range until you have your foot on the brake too. I know the relay will snap with it in park and without your foot on the brake, but the contact that's closing in the relay doesn't get any power until both NSS and brake switch are closed circuit.

Awesome buy, Randy! Check that drivers side knuckle for a bend just below the front bearing bolt. It should have the tie rod connection in the same place in relation to the rim as the other side.
Man, that lower front valance and grille are going to look amazing on the truck. I mean, even without them the truck looks solid. This is a winner, big time.
My mom had a 2001 f150 crew cab lariat back in the day. It was black with the gold stripes and lariat with the chrome 17’s. Was a pretty slick truck.

I got my 2002 f150 4x4 at an auction for $1,000 with 159,000 miles. Such a great truck for the price. The only flaw was a dent in the bed and needed some new tires.

It wasn't a bad price but you picked it up for I would buy one for what $1,200 is that what you got it for $1,500 Salvage and you can get the parts to fix it is awesome sell it to me for about 2-3 Grand. My family had one of those almost exactly like that. Only difference is it was 2wd. Got totaled when it was parked by a drunk driver. It was in almost perfect condition. I think the insurance valued it at like 8 grand a few years ago.
I had the same problem with my ford after a hard slide into an oak tree.... (ooops) but my center link was bent to crap and all of the drivers side wheel parts... ctrl arm, tie rod etc. had to be replaced. And yes the front tire squealed like a stuck pig!! Anyway, you'll get it fixed Randy!! SWEET DEAL!!

When you swap the doors you should swap the Harley speakers into the new ones.

i would inspect those front end parts carefully as they can bend slightly during an accident causing whats known as stack-up , its when not just one part is bent causing the problem you are having but several, one commenter said twisted pitman shaft on the steering gear, plus i would get the upper control arms checked as well , they may have slipped out of alignment during the crash.

The way the red Ford was driving reminds me of when I had to tow back home a '64 Buick Riviera with no engine in it. I flat towed it, and with no motor the wheels would not follow on turns - they would turn the opposite way. After having to get out and correct it about three times, I said screw this and I used a coat hanger to tie the steering wheel straight. I figured it was better to drag the tires a little than to end up having them completely sideways to the direction I was going and no more having to go straighten it out. And it worked, I got it where I needed to go okay. Thank goodness it had vent windows.
That car was a total accident in the first place, I went to a live auction of the house and contents to buy model trains. The guy was also into cars, and had kept a nice Riviera and kept some parts from this one for it, it was his parts car. But as parts cars go it wasn't bad and I knew some of the parts on it worth money (the tilt column from one usually goes $300 or so on eBay). Well, nobody wanted it, the auctioneer gets down to $50 trying to get a bid and I jump in and win it for $75. Went back the next day and hauled it to my buddy's warehouse.
I probably should do a video like this of putting it back together. lol
That red truck, if I was in a pinch and had to drive it I'd probably try to adjust the tie rod ends as far as I could to get the wheels so they're both straight with the wheel pointed in some, any direction. But with AAA there's no reason to mess around.

Also fix the gear lever placement with the adjustable nut under dash. The fix is a small cable tie. That way the lever is in the middle of the letter.

On the red F150 it looks like the sway bar end links are worn out also along with the center link bend.

Yup gotta roll forward or backwards a little to get 4wd to engage on alot of vehicles
You might have to put down some pavers in the side yard so you can park a couple of projects there.
Upper lower tie rod ends and link all showed wear. If it took a hit hard enough to bend that link just assume they are bad. Wheel bearing assembly too

Yes neutral then reverse then drive and you’ll be in 4x4 for all earlier ford trucks,if you ever get a f.250 you must lock hubs then do that process
