    Dang, Pontiac Vibes were popular in my area. People knew they are Toyotas but with the discount of a Pontiac dealer. Plenty still on the road, as you'd expect from a Toyota.

    I'd jump on every Vibe you find that is in decent condition for the lot. I've bought four, one for each of my kids, and I owned an 03 GT that my BIL now has. Except for the one that was totaled, they are all running great with 96k - 250k miles on them. Keep up with the great videos, Randy!

    Vibes are solid. My wife owned one and it would have made 250k miles easy. Was a joint project when Toyota was trying to teach Pontiac how to make decent cars in Fremont California factory. Apparently it didn’t help Pontiac. It’s identical and parts are interchangeable with Toyota Matrix.
    Also don’t normally watch the carnage portion of your lot tours, but that red Dakota pickup was indeed a jaw dropper.

    • @jas4925
      @jas4925 6 лет назад

      The Fremont was a probletct between GM and Toyota constructed in the 1980's. The first product was a rebadged Toyota Corolla called the Chevrolet Nova I had one in college great car. Then GM started the Geo line they had the Geo Pirzm which was the next generation Corolla. GM killed the Geo brand in 2000 and they started making the Vibes all Corollas great cars.

    Ive done a lot of work on those v8 mercs over the years. You dont have many problems with head gaskets. You get worn timing chains and broken chain guides that will make it rattle , worn fuel distributors , leaky fuel pump and filters from crushed copper washers. The occasional waterpump and radiator and leaky heater core. Seized heater fan motors. other than that they are tough.

  • @gosportjamie

    I think that generation of Mercedes SEC had the bonnet/hood safety catch above one of the headlights. It looks like an old person's car so it could be a deceased estate vehicle that has sat for a long time so the coolant could have just evaporate off out of the expansion tank...

  • @the_circuit_man
    @the_circuit_man 6 лет назад

    On most Mercedes-Benz models--the 560 SEC included--there should be a pull tab that sticks through the grille that you pull before lifting the hood. The one y'all saw seems to be missing that tab; it can be jury-rigged with a wire clothes hanger.

    *The shit on the doors of that escape is the same shit that i've been bitching about people using for years now. they call it Carpet "DYE" but it's not dye at all it's just paint and what you're seeing on those door pannels is kind of what i see everytime i get another fucking vehicle to work on because some half ass detail guy didn't know how to clean the seats or carpet right so they run out and buy a bunch of cans of that dye shit and everything gets a ridiculous coating of the shit and the really bad cases end up like those door pannels. You can steam clean that shit back off of the interior with a really strong and hard core steam cleaner, i got a lot of it off of my leather cadillac seats in the first and only copart car i've ever had.(and of course we're keeping it) that drive around lot had a nicer looking Black 02-06 Cadillac ESV* (yeah i'm hooked on these things they are just really good solid vehicles) found it , easy fix and good money left on the bones for you still too. www.copart.com/lot/46675778

    The door panels in the Escape come with a vinyl panel in the middle. When exposed to humidity and heat, the adhesive deteriorates, and the panels fall off, leaving behind the remaining adhesive, which is what you were touching. Lots of Escape owners have this problem, including myself. I found 4 good door panels at my LKQ and replaced mine pretty cheap. I know you are a GM guy, but keep Escapes/Tributes/Mariners in mind, when looking for vehicles for the lot, though. The Gen 1 (2001-2007) models sell in the range you're looking for, and are decent little SUVs. The 3.0 is a pretty bulletproof engine, and the CD4e transmissions weren't all bad. I'm still running fine in my '03 with 124K. Not sure why that one lost R so early. If you find a 5-speed manual 4x4, you've hit jackpot. Finding one with the rear retractable cargo cover is quite rare. Even the 2010 Escape Limited I bought this summer had that missing. :/

    • @clittle580

      @xrcrx ftfghjg incorrect. Vibe was manufactured alongside the Matrix which itself was Corolla derived at the former NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing Inc) plant in Fremont, CA. Fun fact, this is now the Tesla Motors plant. It could say Rolls Royce and it's still a Toyota. Pop the hood, everything says Toyota and Denso. 😀

    I wouldn't touch that Saturn Aura, we got them in the UK as the Vauxhall Astra and they don't withstand low front damage like that at all well, the subframes are pretty weak on them and it can often also result in major distortion to the vehicle structure. I've seen a lot that looked a whole lot less bad than that one written off due to irreparable structural damage...
