I had both, Öhlins and Wilbers, on my HD Road King. They are both perfect. Wilbers is easier to handle, because when it it set, it's done. Öhlins need adjustment if you run with luggage or with two persons. It offers you adjustment for compression and rebound, but you have to know what you are doing. Wrong adjustment can leed to a bad, sometimes dangerous ride. My first choice is Wilbers. Makes it easy for everybody. Regards from Austria.
Great video! I run Wilbers on my 2019 CVO Street Glide, 2019 Road King Special, 2021 CVO Limited & 2023 Breakout. Love them! And you’re description comparing them to Ohlins is spot on! Soft but not too soft. 👍🏾 Also, thank you for your service!
Upgraded my 2020 CVO Street Glide with the Wilbers system after doing some research. The fact that the Wilbers are self levelling sold me on the suspension. Watching @MillionDollarBogan taking his Road King off road just reassured me that this is a great system and will last forever as I’m not taking my bike off road.
Back in the day (1970s) my XLCH was in the shop and I needed to go somewhere so a buddy with an Electra Glide gave me a lift. His Shovelhead had the old pogo-seat and I gotta tell you that was one smooth ride, even over the rutted, pot-holed long drive way to our destination. That was the best seat suspension I have ever experienced on a motorcycle.
Great review! I love the self leveling of the Wilbers on my Ultra. That is what sold me on them. My wife rides 50% of the time and the thought of having to make constant manual adjustments bugged me. I was looking at the Legend Air Ride before I found the Wilbers and for the same money, I was doing all 4 points and with the Legends was just the rear.
Recently installed front and rear on my 2020 CVO Ultra and I was pleasantly surprised right from the start of using them. Low speed cornering is better, feeling more secure to the road. High speed bumps really level out, with much less violent action the really major bumps I used to bottom out on. Even notice at stop signs, I used to clamp the break and feel the front shock dip about and 1-1/2" and with these maybe 1/8" dip. Seriously stronger more capable shocks. Anxious to get out on some much longer rides. (BTW, 6-3, 280#)
Great video LAB. After two years running Legends on my first HD '12 Ultra Classic, I am in search of upgrading my new to me 2017 Limited. Was going to go straight with Legends but I like the "Set it and forget it" preload as my wife and I travel loaded, unloaded, then solo.
Good video. Didn’t realize the front spring kit was that affordable. Might have to give them a try. Run supershox out back out of Illinois. Very good shock. Much smaller operation. Haven’t tried ohlins but have legends before and they run down the road nice
I have ridding approx 50k with Wilbers now... having them on my FLHRXS... going mostly long haul with quite some luggage and full saddlebags, tent etc... they are amazing, notably when going on curvy/winding roads, and at higher speed on the freeway.... side wind stability is fantastic, no wobbling... whatsoever... the only thing that sucks relates to the OEM tyres, being low profile for the "looks of a Special"... but that has nothing to do with any aftermarket based upgrading of the suspension... no matter what one would go for.... absolute recommendation!
I did a ton of research and ended up putting on Wilber’s both front and read. The difference is really amazing and it was money well spent. The biggest difference is when I rode with my wife. I seriously could not believe the difference - now she wants to ride all the time!
@@stefansgarage3014 Hi Stefan, thanks for the update and great news! I’m looking forward to Jan 24th for the launch of the 2024 models 😎. Have you got the cartridges installed on your bike? Any thoughts you can share? Or shall I wait for your video on that 😬.
@@maartenkok345 I would definitely share it, but we are way below freezing with lots of snow. Furthermore my Singlemalt is still with Wilbers in Northern Germany for the final tests. I will share everything as soon as I have her back and was able to ride.

Another great video...i wonder how wilbers front suspension would handle on a big wheel bagger 26" or a fat 23"?...hopefully you'll do a video on this one day
Thanks for this video. This is going to help a lot of riders decide on their suspension. I have Legend Revo A shocks on mine that I purchase two years ago and coming from Progressive's top shocks feel that they were a big improvement over those. I am happy enough with the Legend's that I won't try to upgrade from here but I have people ask me all the time if they are the best and my answer has always been I don't know because I have not tried everything that's out there. Now I can just send them to this video. I have not done anything with the front yet but I might go with the Ohlin's on the front because the Legends for what you get don.t seem like a good value for the front. Again thank you.
I’ve just had ohlins fitted front x as nd rear to my 2020 softail slim, and set up for me. All I can say is that it transforms the bike, I can go faster and have better control, the self levelling doesn’t add anything to me as I never take a passenger or run luggage.
Thanks for all your great videos!!! Helped me a lot. Do you perhaps have a video how to setup the rebound on Ohlins rear suspension? I have a 2019 Road Glide special with Ohlins in the rear and Ohlins springs in the front. Thanks in advance.
I have Legends rear, getting Wilbers front! The front is $230;, 4 times less money compared to Legend and Wilbers and works just as good if not better!
Ohlins are rebuildable. Wilbers I did ask and that was a not yet. I have Ohlins rear and Progressive springs front with 10w Ansoil fluid. I wish I bought the ProAction suspension
put 12" legends on my 05.U.C. all 4 corners. the air ride, o.e.m on the rear and stock up front, got to so bad, didn't even want to ride. wife and I ride 2-up on 2 to 5 thousand mile road trips. Now it's like riding in a caddie😊. First thing new harley owners need to First! NEW shocks all 4 corners.
What should I expect to lay out between purchasing and having a professional installation for both front and rear Wilber’s Suspension? I own a 2015 Ultra Limited Low. I understand it’s not going to be cheap but I like the idea of self leveling? Thanks, Mark

After adjustment for just me riding. What happens when I have a passenger? DO I need to do a further adjustment when I have one and reverse back after?
No, the self leveling Nivomat will take care of any load changes. Remove the saddlebags only for cleaning the bike and always have the perfect preload.
My 2012 switchback went into death wobble, went through some rough concrete while I was leaned over a little bit to one side on stock suspension running about 95mph. I don't want to experience that again. What would be your recommendation for my 2023 road king special ? Thanks !
Technically you can, but I would stay within the brand. It is dialed in a designed by a single company. Öhlins stiffer, more race oriented, Wilbers more comfort and precision with self leveling in the rear. You have to check your personal specs list.
Yes they are, just not self-leveling in the rear-which are not necessary on a Trike. Klaus, the former owner of WilbersUSA (now retired) has them on his personal Trike.
Have you tried Super Shocks? Curious about how they stack up against the more well known names. And they offer 3 levels. Why? Do they know there best cost too much? Thanks.
I ride a Road Glide CVO 2022 with the awfull 21" frontwheel. The frontsuspension is really terrible. Will the Wilbers suspension be better at front and does the bike stears better with that suspension ? Or do i better change the 21" frontwheel for a 19" frontwheel ?
Doesn't seem odd that no matter what suspension you put on a new HD Dresser that it will never ride as smooth as the new Wing Tour yet Honda (Showa) makes the OEM suspensions for both Harley and Honda? Of course, Showa builds to Harley specs.
The average punter has no clue how suspension works . Let alone how to adjust it properly for different conditions weight riding styles etc. I consider My skill level would be above average as a professional. The minute advantages of a properly adjusted Ohlins etc is just not worth the effort.Thats wy I run Wilbers set and forget
How many open the owner’s manual and adjust for their fat behinds? Harley bikes are designed for skinny 150 pound lightweight riders. I haven’t weighed that since the 9th grade.
If I was to hazard a guess at the weight of the average Harley rider, I’d assume 250-300lbs. I’d hazard a guess at maybe 5% of HD riders weigh less than 200lbs, myself being one of them at 180lbs.
