One small note on fork reassembly. Initially leave fender bolts, lower fork/triple tree pinch bolts, and caliper bolts loose. Tighten axle bolt to “square” up the forks about the axle centerline. Afterward, tighten everything else. This will prevent any binding and ensure everything is all settled and centered.

Very good, informative video on the steps required to swap the suspension on the Softail. Please allow for some feedback: Have the mechanic do some talking. It’s very sterile. You’re correct, but he’s working by the hour and it would be a great way for me to get tossed out of the shop if the owner learns I’m slowing him down. Understood, but it ain’t happening.
Are you happy with the change? I changed the suspension of my 2020 Deluxe to Ohlins suspension front and rear, but had to change the springs in the front 3 times and rear once, because the spring rates were not correct. As a bike technician, I could do that by myself. Now the bike runs perfect. On the other hand, it was really disappointing that Ohlins offered me equipment which didn't work correctly and I had to develop it by myself. And the price for this equipment is not cheap. Regards from Austria.
So far, so good! However, I’ve only ridden the bike about 200 miles with the Legends installed and they need to break in yet. Also, the stock seat is doing me no favors. Will do a comprehensive review once I’ve got 600 miles or so. Austria is beautiful, it’s been many years but the times I’ve traveled there I absolutely loved it. Ride safe Wolfgang!
@@trippontwowheels I have changed my stock seat to a sundowner seat. That is a good choice. A friend has choosen a Mustang touring seat. Both seats are good for long distance riding.
so? how much did you spend on accessories? What was the cost of the mechanic who did all the work ? What was the grand total for the completed product?
No kidding! It was pricey but I bought both front and rear during Black Friday sales and bought from vendors who didn’t charge shipping or sales tax so I ended up saving quite a bit thank goodness.
You still not have installed the fork wind deflectors 🤔 I have them on my Softail Heritage and they do make a big difference in reducing wind buffeting from below 🤗
My 2011 Heritage Softail will absolutely rattle your teeth out. I've put fresh fork oil in and all. This is my first Harley and I thought it was just me. My first impression was "There is nothing 'soft' about this ride."

Great install video. Looking to purchase a set for my 17' Deluxe. Are you still happy with this setup? Also, i read somewhere that these shocks might hinder access to trans fluid drain plug for oil changes. Was this your experience?
No it will not hinder access. I have a ton of new accessories for the bike I’m selling. Email me at tripp@trippontwowheels.com if you have any interest. Thanks!
I'm trying to install them on my 2007 Softail Springer CVO, I'm wondering if you had any clearance issues with the top of the shock and the bottom of the transmission case on the right one.
It doesn’t affect the ground clearance at all. You can only adjust ride preload, not ground clearance to the best of my knowledge. If it does, it’s so slight I never noticed.

Do you know if your 2015 had that "bending valve" suspension as found on the M8 newer versions? Do you think your air ride suspension is better than the M8 stock softail? Thanks.
I don’t believe it had the bending valve, and yes, Twin Cam with Legends on front and back was vastly improved vs stock. It’s tough to compare vs the M8 version as there were so many improvements in the M8. When in doubt, get the M8 and put legends on it! 🙂

Hi, Tripp. If I stumble on to a few extra thousand dollars, I might look into a suspension upgrade. Good video though.
It’s never going to happen. Traded in the Deluxe. 😞
Well done.
Thanks Sam! Much appreciated. A ton of work went into this one.
How do you change transmission fluid after installing the Legend system? I can’t get an Allen wrench in between the shocks.
Thanks!
Great watching a pro. How long did the installation take?
4-5 hours. Steve is indeed a pro.
He did nice job 👍 thank you for the video 🙏🏻👏
Thanks much Fred!
My 2011 Heritage Softail will absolutely rattle your teeth out. I've put fresh fork oil in and all. This is my first Harley and I thought it was just me. My first impression was "There is nothing 'soft' about this ride."
that's very cool, thanks for sharing this with us, sending love and support from Joemary Random Vlog here
Thanks!
Is Legends Suspension the best rear shocks for a 2015 Harley Streetglide Special.I love My Streetglide but not the rear suspension.Half the time my Wife rides with me and she weighs a little over 200.I weigh 176.I can live with the front suspension,I know that there's better.
I’d think it’s either Legend or Ohlin. You may want to check out the HD Forum for more advice/information. Good luck Mark!
@@trippontwowheels Thanks, I've been asking Harley parts department guys what they thought were good replacements.
Thanks!
Love how you work
Thanks! Mechanic work or camera work?

Thanks Mosad! What do you ride and where are you from?
great how to vid...thank you.
Great install.
Thanks!
Cool big bikes you do your job professionally tnx for sharing jean misal
Thanks Elsa!
I'm trying to install them on my 2007 Softail Springer CVO, I'm wondering if you had any clearance issues with the top of the shock and the bottom of the transmission case on the right one.
Yes. Was a long and tedious process. Edited about 20 minutes of struggling out!
Did it increase the ground clearance? If you want to increase it what can you do?
It doesn’t affect the ground clearance at all. You can only adjust ride preload, not ground clearance to the best of my knowledge. If it does, it’s so slight I never noticed.
Too much work lol. I just rebuild my forks on my 72 FLH and 98 Fatboy that's enough fork work for a while. Good video
Thanks much Ron!
Thanks for the video
You’re more than welcome Jim. Review video coming out soon!
Wow thats so amazing enjoy riding Sir watching here in singapore from Ajack in Tandem

Hello and thank you!
@@trippontwowheels you're welcome 😊
Hey man, where is the follow up ride and review video regarding your Legend Shocks and forks. I have been waiting because I have a softail too and am trying to decide if I should do Progressive 422 shocks and Legend Axel montotube springs or maybe Race Tech & Gold valve emulators.......
Softail deluxe - contemplating Revo A and Axel set up but would like to see your ride and review (opinion). I have the Legend system on my Road King Special but the Softail Deluxe rear suspension is a different animal...... would really appreciate the follow up video.....
Sorry bud, I traded the bike in on a 2019 Road King shortly after I made the install video. Big mistake.
You’ll be quite happy with the Revo A setup. Made a huge difference on the Deluxe.
@@trippontwowheels I bought a road king special but kept the Softail Deluxe too - can you just summarize the difference in how the bike responded and did it improve in cornering because my softail shocks / front forks dips and dives like an Olympic diver jumping on a spring board, especially
around a highway corner......
@chadwickmulvahill6925 The Revo’s fix all of that. Front improves handling, rear improves ride. My bike did the same. Amazing difference.
I love the Deluxe, it's a shame that they stopped making them in 2020.
The Deluxe, IMO, is the best looking Harley of the last 50 years. Totally agree!
@@trippontwowheels Many people spruce their heritage up to look like a deluxe.
I always thought it was the other way around! 🙂
very informative mister TRipp
Thanks Jeany!
that legends rear suspension is fairly new isn't it I was looking for something for my deluxe in 2019 and didn't see it I wish I would have
They’ve been around quite a while actually. 25 plus years I think. Do you still have the Deluxe?
@@trippontwowheels no I traded it for that reason I looked high and low and legend for the rear is an option I never came across live and learn now if I pickup a pre rushmore Ill know better
I'm in my 50s, 6'3" and about 215-220. I'm interested in buying a Heritage as a beginning rider. What do you think? Any aadvice? I've looked at a Triumph Bonneville T@20 too but I like the Heritage more, I live in central Texas where it can get pretty hot and humid. What type of gear would you suggest?
Bill I live in Central Texas as well. If you’d like, email me your phone if you’d like and I can give you a call regarding. Tripp@trippontwowheels.com
What bars are those? I want those on my Heritage!
Stock Bars. Easy to find.
@@trippontwowheels what model or what’s the name of them exactly so I can find them?
@@p.u.s.h.532 They are the Harley Softail Deluxe stock handlebars, often referred to as beach or surf bars. Any dealer will have the part number. Good luck!

Hello Auie here supporting from Ajack supporting
I can see that you're using a wrench on that right side rear shock bolt, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get one on there, let alone turn it, how did you do that??!! I was just trying to install my new Legends rear shocks and that one bolt has stopped me dead in my tracks!!
Hmmm. It’s hard to explain but it wasn’t easy. Just keep trying is about the best I can offer. Front or rear if the shock canister?
@@trippontwowheels The rear bolt on the right side by the oil drain plug. Do you recall what wrench you were using when you were hitting it with the dead blow hammer? I can see that you were using a 3/4” ratchet end once you got it broke free. I’ve been trying a claw foot because that’s all I have that I can get on the bolt, but it won’t stay on when I’m applying torque. Thanks for any advice you can give!
I love your content ser.done.
