This is a slice of American history. The Chicano culture of SoCal has had such an influence all across the world. Good to see it captured and preserved so well right here 🇺🇸 🇲🇽
This is Harley!!! You can not find this with other motorcycles manufacturers. 120 hp?? Who cares when you are cruising on boulevard, 88, 96, 103, do you need more?? Not really. My very first comment in years of being watching youtube videos is to congratulate you Matt, an awesome video.
I was a teen when you had the shop on Garvey, we would buy our cholo clothes at Doughboys across the street then stop in at Laidlaws and dream of owning Harleys...thanks for that trip down memory lane.
Grew up around this style of bike in TX. I love 'em. The effort that goes into building this style of bike is crazy. You can only really appreciate them when you get up close and see how each fine detail was covered when considering what parts to upgrade. I've seen some of the best custom paint schemes on these bikes.
This a heart warming video, it’s nice to see Mexican heritage in something I love so dearly in a time when I feel like there’s a lot of people who are divided, thanks Matt really 👍🏽
Always nice to see guys (and girls) ride and talking enthusiastically about their bikes, their passion. Gets me through the "dark" months while not riding my Fat Boy. Nice video as always.
Orela! Thanks for sharing Matt, it brings back memories of cruising down Whittier Blvd from East Los! I'm trying to get my hands on an old Bicla for cruising. That 05 got me drooling!
By far, my favorite video Matt! Being from that area brings back so many great memories, thank you! I miss the culture, the food and the scenery. But I don't miss that state. And thank you for introducing this way of life to those not in the know.
I just wanna thank you for your videos , i suffer from ptsd and other issues ,your videos help me get thru my day even if for a lil while , ive always dreamed of having a bike but being on disability really will be a dream unrealized , again thank you for videos and your time to make them ... Bill
Thanks for taking me back to my young days Matt... Grew up in Rosemead and used to look at bikes all the time.. Now I am in Pittsburgh Pa since 1985..... Thanks again
Is an amazing feeling cruising with your brother's . This is why Harley Davidson is the best. Bringing all kinds of cultures together. I bought my 2015 sportster 72 from Laidlaw and I love it. Cant wait to go back for a street glide. Best video of the year Matt. 😎
In addition to my previous comment, I’d love to see some more videos like this. Not only was it informative but it was definitely a lot of fun to watch. May even stop by that restaurant on my bike when I get back home to the states
Love how you feature the bikes at your dealership with the history of your family's business and how you were first introd to viclas. Next time I'm in SoCal, I'll make sure to stop by for some merch!
Im not a big fan of chrome, but like you I grew up thinking this we what Harley Davidson was, so I love the Chicano style culture bikes. Those are amazing motorcycles. Thank you for this video. Bravo!
Matt, please show more history about your family business. Pics.,vids, etc. I think it would be interesting to see how the family owned dealerships served the local bikers.
Matt Laidlaw i currently ride an 09 883c 9,000 miles, black , 14” apes, fat spokes , super clean but i want to buy my buddies 01 fatboy vicla ... could we both take our bikes to our local HD shop and me get his bike and he get the cash for mine??? TIA any info is greatly appreciated!!!
Appreciate you taking the time to share some very cool West Coast Harley Davidson style and history. Stay up Bro, keep the content coming! ML&R, Joseph
I love this piece, Matt. I think the Viclas culture is so bad ass, and this video really dove into that and let the viewer get a taste of it. Great bikes, great staff and great video!
I have a 2016 Heritage Softail Deluxe, Progressive suspension front, back and lowered, Vance & Hines exhaust and cams, Arlen Ness Big Sucker under stock intake. This was the bike of my dreams! I grew up around Whittier Boulevard, went to junior high in Norwalk, and high school in La Puente in the 80’s. Loved chrome so much I dream in chrome. Good video and good memories of that time!
Loved the video! I just sold my 2001 Heritage with 16” apes and crazy loud exhaust, solo seat, etc. This video made me miss that bike, but it was time for something a little more comfortable on the long trips. I’m still a huge fan of that style of bike..
I'm American Cuban so I'm a Latino and I never liked motorcycles when I was younger but now that im older I'm really looking forward to 2020 and purchasing a Harley Sportster 1200cc
@@viperjn813 With everything that has been going on since your initial post 6 months ago, are you still on track to get that 1200 this year?🤞🤞 I ride an Iron 883 and love it, and that bike gets a lot of compliments at stop lights and gas stations (which you'll be visiting frequently with that little gas tank, lol).
You Guys and your Bikes are so cool. I can listen to the sound all day long. I recently purchased a 2014 Harley Davidson Road King after 40 years with no bike. I'm stoked big time. You Guys are inspiring me to get another bike in that Cholo style. Ride on, Brothers.
Great video. Being an Indiana rider today was a reminder winter is in the way (25 degrees this morning). Jealous of East LA weather. I’m old school, started riding in the 60s. Reverted to my roots when I bought a Seventy Two in 2012. Didn’t know where the design idea came from, only know it was what I wanted. Just went to a 2020 street bob. Gracias for the great history lesson and the virtual ride along. Muy bien!
Laidlaws Harley is such an iconic dealership. This was my dads go to dealership back in the 60's and 70's and I remember going there many times as a kid. Back then my dad built choppers so the long and chopped frontends is what I was used to, but I remember the first time I saw a cholo style I was hooked and is what I build still to this day. Thanks for the vid.

It’s a very fascinating aspect of American culture how subcultures have impacted the American way of life, from food, TV, clothes, vehicles, etc. Really love HD’s story in this case: immigrants from Scotland built up a powerhouse motorcycle company, and the Hispanics added their touch to their motorcycles to give it their own style. Just amazing. I saw a Viclas style HD (I believe it was the same as the purple one in this vid) in the UK at the London Ace Cafe recently. Very cool styling language.
