Hey there! Hello from New Zealand! My name is Ra, and pleased to meet you, brother! It was the tagline that landed me on your channel, and when I saw it, I realised that I'm sort-of in your shoes. I haven't been on a motorcycle for nearly 40 years. I've been questioning my life choices lately, and I miss being on two wheels. The rumble of the motor, the wind in your face, the bugs in your teeth and clothing... Lol. Plus, the freedom, the utter freedom a motorcycle gives you... Yeah, I got it bad! Lol. However, I'd thought I'd follow along as you fix up that monster and get her road-worthy and singing a fine tune. Subbed no probs.
Well... Riding in the 80s you had to have some mechanical know how. Standard service was stuff like making sure the timing on your spark plugs was correct. I am mechanically handicapped. If my bike stops working I scratch my head, load it on my truck and let the dealer service it. Could never ride a bike like that so I am always impressed by people who know how these things work.
I stopped riding when I was 25, rode ninjas etc... at 38 I gave in and bought an old harley Road King. Feel like I been missing a part of me and found it
Is it bad that I love exactly how this bike looks? Exactly as it is.. Maybe minus the brand new looking instrument cluster. Just an old school highway cruiser that's seen more miles than I've seen broken dreams. Or something like that... Just a bike that looks like it's been through hell and back but it still rides perfectly. Just a cool story on wheels.

Theres no need for questioning your life decisions if there is a GTR parked in your garage :D
Amen
Nice bike! Runs great. Good purchase. Hope you can get the tranny fixed. I like how the pipes arent burnt black and blue. To me that shows its been ridden respectfully. Like you I believe in going through the bike to freshen everything and upgrade things. Especially if youre going to keep her. I bought a 2002 Kawasaki Concours C10 after 30 years off riding and Im going through it too. Happy riding! Thanks for the video.
@@pipersall6761 thank you and same to you! It’s getting there, projects are fun (and frustrating) at times 👍🏻
There is a spring on the shifter paw that probably needs to be replaced the old EVO transmissions do that after a while. May not be the problem but I would add it to my list, it usually causes like mist shifts. There is a video of a older dude like me out there that shows you how to do it. Great Bike I am real Happy for ya.
Great info, added to the list of things to check thank you!
🙏
Looks like a Honda or something like that in your default pic that's what I thought it was when I click on it 😂
Feel like I been missing a part of me and found it
I went through a similar experience, totally understand where you are coming from!
"Chrome wont getcha home, but it sure looks good pushin" I love that
Sitting is way harder on a bike than riding it, nice project brother you’ll be looking for another one before you know it. 🐾✌️🇺🇸
I start mine every week and let it run for 15-20 minutes, off season
Is it bad that I love exactly how this bike looks? Exactly as it is.. Maybe minus the brand new looking instrument cluster. Just an old school highway cruiser that's seen more miles than I've seen broken dreams. Or something like that... Just a bike that looks like it's been through hell and back but it still rides perfectly. Just a cool story on wheels.
This was probably the best video i seen involving a Harley . Very funny
Thank you! 🙏
I went out for a ride and I never went back. Good luck to you.
I don't even like bikes that much but this video was incredibly interesting and 20 minutes went by quick
Following this progress..... 🙂
I dont know why I watched this video, but I really enjoyed it. Greetings from Germany ♥
Wish my gf wouldn't be so adamant against me riding bikes, I'd love to. Looks like you're having the time of your life with that old girl.
Sounds like “new girlfriend” time 😅😂
I love older bikes to i have a 01 electrica glide 23yrs old getting there anyway keep on bro. Good luck with your olgd girl.
I just bought an 80 flt that had sat for over 35 years . Going through all the same growing pains that you are. My flt looks exactly like yours other than I have the Bat wing.. it took me a few hours to get it running and as of last week it was the first on the road drive. If you need any info on the old girl feel free to message me... Gary
Awesome thank you, yeah this had a batwing and tour pack when I got it but when I removed those to start work I kinda fell for the way it looked without them, like what a Road King would have been back then
@@tta850 you don't have a extra left side hard bag top by chance? I have a extra shorty super E carburetor and a set of oem keys that should fit your ride
What a awesome old beast of a bike, looking forward to seeing ya get it all fixed up. Thumbs up and subbed.
Thank you! 🙏
I kinda like the relic look!
It’s growing on me too
Man, that's my kind of bike. Seeing this makes me sad that i can't ride.
Just got back on a dirt bike yesterday, 1st time in over 20 yrs. It was fun but scary at the same time
🎉
in love with that bike. Man just imagine reworking that bad boy
I saw the title and thought "how so?" and then i got a little bit into it and was like "OH, project bike woes. Welcome to the club of foolish tinkerers! If I was local I'd buy you a beer!"
Much appreciated! I repeatedly ask myself what am I doing, but the small wins and satisfaction of seeing progress make it worth it lol
We all love tinkering in the shop with a few beers. It’s the best times
Might be old but when you give her a chance she runs great :) Thanks for taking care of the old girl :) Excited to see how she turns out after your TLC :)
Nobody even mentioned the super clean black impala ss. Nice hell yeah
Nah people mentioned it in the comment that’s about the gtr
@@slimdunkin117 yeah you right I didn't see that
Harley made some of the best bikes back in the day. They literally live forever.

This will be a fun restore series. GETTER DONE!
Once I seen the thumbnail I knew it was NY. And probably Brooklyn. Had to tune in.
Edit: What a small world. You live on a street I grew up on. Crazy how small the world is sometimes, even on the internet.
