Floorboards on cruisers like Heritage are to be set a little loose, not cranked down tight. That way they gently fold up when you lean into a turn and scrape. I live in the mountains and scrape all the time. The first time you experience floorboard scrape through a turn it might startle you but, it's no big deal.
For those of you who don’t know, he was killed a month after posting this video. He sounded like a nice guy, but you can’t ride like that every day without it eventually catching up with you. My motto is, “ride to live another day.” I crashed in my early 20’s riding like this. I should have died that day but miraculously I didn’t. I did, however, spend the next 18 months in and out of surgery. But what hurt me the most was how much I hurt my family, especially my mother. I saw the video of this guys funeral; he had a lot of friends and family, and it seemed a wife. When we ride we have to be mindful of those who love us along with those who we love. I don’t know why but a part of me feels like I knew him.
Did he die on a motorcycle? Or do we not know? I ride my fat boy pretty hard, like they do a sport bike or those king of the baggers riders. The big problem I see with this guy's riding is he's not motoGP leaning over the tank into the turn, he's counter leaning, which means he's adding more lean angle than necessary. I personally ride really fast and hard, but I also wear a motoGP level helmet, and an airbag vest.
I had a quick look and there is a memorial video on his channel. In the comments it confirms that it was a bike accident. Have to say he 's not hanging about in this video, and that's on an easy going cruiser.
He wrecked at an intersection... not actually going really fast. Hit an obstruction in the road and it threw him. My brother was an easy guy to know...I can see why you feel like you did. It's been one year now and we miss him very much.
I was gonna say that that has to be lower than my 97 Heritage. I ride aggressively in the mountains of North Carolina, home, and rarely scrape...fun times though.
No, it's not lowered. My other bike is a sport tourer and I scrape the feelers on that as well. The 2017 heritage only has a 25 degree lean angle though.
@@dadwithabike I push mine through the twisties...gotta have some fun. Got stopped once by a deputy who was curious how many times I scraped going up the mountain...😁. He has the same year with only 5k miles on it.
I've got a brand new Heritage classic flhcs with floor boards and I take curves a lot sharper that and I haven't scraped not one time,,,he must have something sticking off both side a little further or something because I haven't had that problem
Bought a 92 FXSTC a couple of months ago and getting her on the road but first job was welding a patch into the bottom of my primary cover, paper thin and about one more scrape off of leaking oil. bike is lowerred but geez, dunno if i'll scrape it much
Yea here in Kentucky deer hunt you like heat seeking missiles. I miss one by a inch just about every time I ride. I got to the point where my rides aren’t enjoyable anymore because of it.
Nice ride! I enjoyed tagging along... curious if your floorboards are extra low or what...I've got FB on my shovel (WG) and I don't scrape them unless I lean a lot more than you did - at least I think so... Anyway thanks for posting I never been to Texas it was nice seeing a close-up, real pretty! edit: btw you like going fast fast I see...American model I'm sure that's MPH not KPH ... A steady 70 and hitting 90? Jeez...Rock on!
Sounds like you had a second mic close to the floorboards haha. I have not ridden enough yet to start dipping that much and going that hard into corners. Loved it haha.
I live in Central Texas too. I'm in the process of trying to buy gear to take the MSF amd then planning to get a Heritage. I'm 6'3" about 215-220. I need XL Tall in shirts and jackets. I'm looking foe gear that will be good for this area eith all the heat. What gear do you use in the summer and what do you recommend?
You might try learning off the bike to this inside deeper. Helps decrease the angle of the bike itself in a turn. I have an 05 Softail deluxe and that thing is LOW. Your floorboards sound just like mine....
Do you feel the need to lift your leg a bit when it starts scraping so the floorboard can fold? I usually stop leaning when I start scraping but wonder if I could push it a little farther if I do this…
I had that exact bike color and everything. LOVED it but the lean angle is trash. I now have a roadglide ultra and it feels like a sport bike in the mountains compared to the heritage.
I rented a Heritage Softail in New Hampshire when the races were going in Laconia. My buddy was on a Buell.I was trying to keep up with him and a ground down the underside of the footboards. I felt like I was riding a recliner. A pig of a motorcycle.
Good video. Spain is plenty of twisty roads and my Heritage 2018 needs lean way further to touch the floor. I understand that 2017 and previous models have shorter lean angles?
Careful! Your really scraping the floor boards and don't want to low side " riding it like you stole it". 😊 What year is hour bike? I believe the lean angle is better on the Heritage in the latest model year or 2.
I would have enjoyed the ride a bit more if I was riding it. I also would not have scraped my bike at all while riding. I just do not have the funds to keep replacing parts to scrape.
Dude you pulled out in front of a car @ 4:40, and going around those curves at the speeds you were is dangerous. Gotta respect the bike, but you said "drive it like you stole it" so by doing that your putting your life at risk. I've known too many fellow bikers to get hurt or lose their life, wouldn't want that.
@brianhoppenrath8379 he really wasn't going that fast according to the video. There's was an obstruction in the intersection and it threw him. It was his new one not the Harley. It's been a year and I miss my brother like crazy...you guys stay safe
Your floor-boards are too low. I never scape the floor-boards on my Heritage Softail Springer (2003) and I ride it hard, leaning as much or more than you are in this video; something is wrong. You're going to high-side that thing if you're not careful. its not pretty. marcus
Why would you ride like that? Get a sport bike if your doing it like that. They at least stop quicker vs having to replace your floorboards because you grounded them off. Dumb. Your definitely going to die doing that so rip.
Nice ride!! My 2020 Heritage doesnt scrap and I go through curves pretty hard.
Yeah the 2017 only has a 25 degree lean angle
I have the same bike and only scrape in roundabouts
He said he had several close calls

Yeah, it's no biggie. I scrape on my sport tourer when I'm getting on it ... that is a little more questionable 😁

Sounds like every Harley I ever owned cornering. I'm on my 2nd set of foot boards on my 72 FLH.

Waittttt whattttt?
Yea people keep saying he had a motorcycle accident and passed away but I'm not sure if its true.
Just google his handle and Indian. Another gone to soon. Rip
@@vmarsfiles it’s definitely true. Unfortunately 😞

Looks fun! Sounds fun!
It is .... sounds faster than it is
Love the ride bro
Awesome footage... Do you use gopro from your chest?
Just saw this, nice ride. Love the roads there, I used t ride the Hill Country out of New Braunfels. My 2012 heritage scraped all the time.
We are gonna miss you brother! Rest in peace dude 🖤

You were rippin man! Great video
Yo! That 2017 heritage was my first bike! That exact color! Totaled it though.....Great bike!
Looks like a really nice ride! There’s not much down here around corpus. Mostly just straight farm roads. I hear you scraping those pegs lol!
Yeah it's great riding around Austin

Absolutely
Nice ride. I don't ride that hard in the corners, LOL. That's beyond my capabilities.
Haha, well the lean angle on these are pretty low
What year model is your Heritage?
yeah you need to do some more body positioning

Yeah, it's a true cruiser for sure. It's a nice ride though
Big cruising motor cycles aren't for everyone. Ride what you can handle.
@@zippahead It's an absurdly easy bike to handle. That's the problem, it wallows, There's no performance.

Scraping pegs is fun until the pavement has a lip that catches your floorboard and lifts the rear tire.
That's only happened on my sport tourer when the center stand catches. But you just ride it out
I have to turn my 95 springer softail like a Mack truck when turning left because of the 3” belt drive. 😳
Sweet Jesus
I got a 2008 softail deluxe as my first bike, long story on why, not my choice. I’ll have to get used to this sound
I would have enjoyed the ride a bit more if I was riding it. I also would not have scraped my bike at all while riding. I just do not have the funds to keep replacing parts to scrape.
It's only feelers on the boards ...
that really is sub par. how does the fat bob have so much more lean angle?
You should try counter steering
Sadly he won't... he died in a crash few months ago. We miss this man
My rule of thumb is... if it isn't throwin sparks on the corners it ain't low enough..lol
Let’s go bro
I lean my heritage so much my handle bars scrape the cement. Jk
RIP John.

Love this route and ride it, lime creek, marble falls all the time.. Let's sync up sometime for group ride!
Yeah it is a great ride for sure
Bro, cornering on yellow lines isn't the smartest line to take.
On that particular Heritage, there's not enough lean angle.
Not seeing how all this dragging is a good thing.
This is how Harleys should be Ridden!
I could scrape both sides of my H-D FXR
Yeah, cruisers are pretty easy to hit side toside

Rather slow curves compared to European standards. Look at the videos from a guy called Schaaf, then you will see tight corners.
