The VERY FIRST FJ Cruiser mod every owner should do (if you can find them)

- The first modification any FJ Cruiser owner should do install EZ View Mirrors. This is by far the best mod I've done to my FJ since owning it, and it has made a huge difference in reducing the FJ Cruiser's notorious blind spots. Visibility is so good you can see cars coming behind you, as well as at least 3-4 lanes over. Parking is also a breeze. Hands down an essential mod for any FJ Cruiser. They should really make all cars' mirrors like this.
EZ View mirrors aren't made anymore, but you can find a Japanese alternative here:

OEM mirrors works just fine. I’m betting most people don’t set the correctly.
It’s just a habit to look over your shoulders before changing lanes. I drive semi and there’s nothing to look at over your shoulders so you have to rely on only the mirrors. Same thing if you were driving a uhaul or RV.
But I would consider adding it just in case someone borrowed the FJ. 🤷🏻♂️
If you are coming from a larger truck, these mirrors feel like trash, my tow mirrors on my diesel really spoiled me 😂
I also don't see any problem with the original mirrors mine work fine I could see everything
Typically no vehicle will have blind spots if the mirrors are adjusted correctly. Most of us dont because we're so used to seeing our own vehicle in the mirror.
Lean your head over to the center of the car and adjust the right side mirror so that you can barely see the side of your car from this position.
Lean your head over to the left so that it is even with the window and adjust the mirror so that you can barely see the sides of your car from this position.
You are correct, but these mirrors are just.... not it. lol. I adjust my mirrors as you say all the time, this truck just does NOT give a safe complete view with the mirrors properly adjusted...
Thanks for the videos, been binge watching a bunch of them! (newbie fj cruiser owner here). :)
I don't have an issue with the blind spots in my FJ (better than my last truck) but these definitely give more of a view of everything behind or to the side of you! 🤘🏼
I'm the same way. Idk why everyone acts like the blindspots are so bad in the FJ. I've been in many cars/trucks that are worse. I'm not saying it doesn't have blind spots but I don't think FJs deserves the hate over it.
These mirrors are worth every penny. I just bought a set direct from Japan.
I'm glad to hear it! Hopefully there will be more converts from the "just set your mirrors right and you won't have any blinds spots" crowd. They don't know what they're missing.
Were they the OEM? Or like the ones in the video?
I have to admit that is a good mod ! Thanks, good job in the narration as well!
Thanks! I think this was my very first FJ Cruiser video upload, but felt it needed a follow up, so I made a second video about the EZ View mirrors. Unfortunately, they stopped making them and they're not easy for everyone to find anymore.
Thankfully the Dubai edition gets the wide angle mirror that can be ordered from Amazon or from accessories places in case you happen to live in the Philippines. Fixes the issue nicely. The other mod I recommend is to put the seat riser spacers for better angle of the driver's seat.
I've only recently seen the seat spacers, but thought they were for for really short people. What does it do? I find my seats pretty comfortable as is.
@@LiL13izzy7 I am 5'11" and I appreciate these spacers a lot. The FJ sits low for the driver to start with but the issue is the seat raiser that sags down with use. So after a while you have to raise the seat again. The spacers fix that issue.
@@RoyFJ65 Me too, I put 1 inch spacers on the rear fixings of both front seats, well worth it.
I installed the “Japanese alternative“ and they work great! Thx
I've heard great things about them. I'd love to see how they look!
Agreed......just cant find them....but I will keep looking!
I hear the Japanese JDM mirrors are available and do the same thing as the EZ View mirrors. Check the links in my video description.
Is mega zip a trusted website?
Interesting find!
Emphasis on "find" nowadays...
Just get the little dome mirrors to stick on it
I tried those. Didn't like em.
Thanks! stupid question.. Works with 2007's too?
Yes the mirrors are the same.
Just buy convex mirrors they cost $6 got them after driving the fj for a year
I had convex mirrors when I first bought the car, and just felt they were too small for me. EZ View mirrors does the job with a large view, and looks OEM while doing it. After driving with these mirrors, I really wonder why they don't make all vehicle mirrors like this.
🤦🏼♂️
It's the worse mirrors I've ever used, worry about hitting vehicle when I drive.
Stock mirrors are definitely scary to drive with. Have you tried any of the alternatives I mention in the video description area?
@LiL13izzy7 no, I just picked the ride up. But it's happening soon
how did you do it?
are this mirror easy to park? since is wide view
Super easy
I think you just gotta point your mirrors down! No need to see the sky!
It's not just about the parking. Blind spots are virtually eliminated while driving, which is one of the FJ's major flaws. I wasn't about to go film a video driving and holding a phone to demonstrate this, so the easiest thing I could think of was demonstrate a parking scenario.
So true, unfortunately most people don't know how to properly adjust their mirrors, just like a good majority of folks I see riding bicycles don't know how high or low their saddle should be.
I ordered the Japanese and they look like the regular factory mirrors. What did I do wrong because I followed the link?
I asked someone who purchased the Japanese mirrors for a link and they provided me with that one. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with those mirrors but you can find more info here: www.fjcruiserforums.com/threads/jdm-mirror-glass-replacement-for-better-visibility.745956/#post-9383879. It's possible that the mirror looks the same but there is a slight difference in curvature and therefore a slightly wider view. I can tell you that my EZ View mirrors looks stock at a glance, but the difference is evident when you install and drive. The same might go for the Japanese mirrors. Sorry I can't be of any more help.
I’ve been trying to buy these mirrors since I bought my FJ they’re not available anywhere
Yep. They don't make em anymore, but a lot of people have been buying Japanese JDM mirrors, which are supposed to be very similar. There is a link in the video description, so maybe give those a try. I have no experience with them so I don't know anything about them, but if you do get them, let me know how it goes.
Nice video, where did you find the console for the roof?
Thanks. I made a short video about the overhead console here: ruclips.net/video/sTqQ_IP8lHE/видео.html. It basically came from a Ford F-150.
Enjoying your vids!
I broke my P/S EZ-View some time ago 😢 . On the upside, I have my b/u cam wired-in to my 12.3" H/U!
On the Look on "Single Mirror" tab
trailtoys.net/products/single-ezview-mirror
ONLY the FJ D/S available. (I contacted the mfr. a while back & apparently the tooling for the passenger side was damaged).
I found there are similar "wide-angle" JDM units available, but it has been a PITA to order them...
Wow, thanks @d.s. Lewis, even at least 1 EZ View mirror is better than none! Thanks for sharing that link.
And now i cant find either, id do anything for these mirrors
I found an FJ i'm thinking of getting. I see you have 2 car seats in the rear. Would you recommend getting one if you have a baby? Thanks
It all depends on your personal situation. For instance, when I bought my FJ, I knew I was not going to have any more kids after the 2 we have, so an FJ is a good sized vehicle for my family of 4. If you plan on having at least 3 kids, you might want to consider something larger. Having said that, the backseat is more spacious than I thought, and as far as safety goes, the FJ performed well in crash tests, and has a high rating for rear passenger occupants. However not all FJ model years have side airbags (2007), so you may want to look into that. I feel very safe in my (mechanically stock) FJ, and with the tires that I have (Kumho Road Venture AT51 - quiet too, I might add), it's been well planted in rain and snow, and has never given me any issues. A modified FJ may perform differently, so I can't speak to that. You'll hear people gripe about the suicide doors being an issue when parking close between cars, but it's never been an issue for me. In fact, suicide doors have actually made it easier for me to load and unload my kids in their car seats (having running boards definitely helps). I may make a short video about this in the future. I don't regret buying my FJ one bit.
@@LiL13izzy7 thanks. I'm looking at 2010 and up trail teams.
@@Jorge_moya cool. What other cars are you considering? Just the FJ?
@@LiL13izzy7 4runner. I already have a 2002 Trd supercharged. Just want something other than a 4runner but waiting on the next gen so the current one will drop in price.
Is the Japanese alternative the same or just an OEM?
I don't have any experience with them but from what I've read on the FJ Cruiser Forums, they are very similar to the EZ View mirrors.
I got the Broadway rearview mirror
Different kind of mirror, but whatever works!
You should NOT be able to see directly behind you with your side mirrors. Set your mirrors correctly and you have no blind spots.
I don't think you got the point. These aren't normal mirrors. FJ's have unusually large C-Pillars which create blind spots, and using stock mirrors, it is an issue for some drivers. I'm merely demonstrating the ability of these EZ View mirrors (not stock) to be able to see a wider perspective than normal mirrors. I have them set correctly, and can simultaneously see cars 3-4 lanes away, as well as cars coming up from behind me.
You probably haven’t driven a FJ Cruiser, the blindspots are gigantic.
@@Rolexor I have one I drive everyday.
@@dcdc9769 the stock mirrors don't work. thats why this video was made. Thanks for the video LIL 13izzy.
FJ CRUISER has blindspots even at the front...
What head unit is hat?
ruclips.net/video/78b5hhhnrmg/видео.html
Hi, do you know where i can still find them? thanks!
The trail toys site has only the drivers side available. Link is in the description in my video. Even one side is better than none.
I have no trouble or no so called blind spots with my FJ
