    I converted my Vespa using Retrospective Scooters' EV Conversion Kit:
    www.retrospectivescooters.com...
    Prior to this project, I had never turned a wrench on a Vespa and never attempted this type of EV conversion. I have no mechanical or electrical training; I am just another shade tree mechanic fitting these types of projects into my weekends. This conversion was done over the course of 3-4 weeks. In total it probably took about 16 hours.
    Since completing this, Retrospective Scooters has started selling a revised conversion kit that uses the chassis ground (unlike mine) and allows you to plug into the existing wiring harness. This was not possible with my kit, so I removed 99% of the old wiring. There was therefore a bit more effort involved in connecting the gauge cluster lights and indicators, but overall, it wasn't too bad.
    If anyone is interested in doing this conversion, I highly recommend purchasing Retrospective Scooters' kit. I have zero regrets.

    Niall & the Restrospective lads are fantastic. Their kit is fabulous. Yes it is new thing for well everyone, But absolutely the correct way forward to give continued life to the millions of scooters out there in the world either abandoned or just waiting for their turn to be back on the road! I converted my Lambretta years ago not using a pop in kit. I bought all my parts separately. My wife and I have now been car less for 8 years. We use a 72 v 5kw hub wheel QS motor. actually turns out they are top of the line, totally beats out Bosch by a huge margin. Our Lambretta a 1964 GT 200 went downhill with the wind maybe 80 kph as a petrol. Now 165 kph runs flawlessly, has range per charge of 780 k'm's using a 100 ah Lith Titrate battery with a speed charge function of 15%-85% in 12 minutes. So to those who falsely claim this is nowhere near the answer yet you're not only wrong you're dead wrong. You don't know what you're talking about. A dummy tank or drop in tank like the GT Lambretta used and the vespa ss90 used can be made into a second long range battery and used with the on board battery. If you take the time to configure your batteries right this is three times the range of a petrol vespa or Lambretta easily So mate screw the nay sayers they are uneducated and keep it up.! And Loud pipes don;t save lives driving properly saves lives. Just FYI lol.

    Nice vid. I have a '99 PX125 in Spain. For now I still love my ring-ding-ding 2stroke. Love the vibrations. Love the smell. But the writing is on the wall in Europe for noisy/smelly bikes, so I'm very glad to see conversion kits already out there. I hope by the time I have to convert, the battery life and power output will have improved. If so, I'll go there willingly! Also hope the price comes down a bit, since the current PX conversion is 4x what I paid for the bike!

      Glad you liked it. Technology keeps improving. Retrospective Scooters now has a 4kW kit that is good for just over 100 KPH. But yes, it is an investment . . .

    Great video! Electric vehicles, although far from perfect, really are the future of mobility. So much more efficient and simple in the end. I've got an old Simson Schwalbe Scooter that just belches out 2-stroke smoke, and 8 would love to convert it to electric power. Maybe a vespa or lambretta is a better way to go. Safe riding!

    Good day sir, I am very glad you are happy with the project, I am also planning to convert my 1986 px200 but I am looking for little bit more top speed (up to 120 km\h). Your videos about your project heated me up even more now, I would love to see more videos of driving it and now after some weeks I would love to hear if there are any cons compared to petrol machine. Anyways great videos and good luck!

      Compared to petrol, the only theoretical downsides are range and top speed, but these aren’t really downsides to me as I only do city driving and don’t need to go that far. As for driving videos, I’ll post one as soon as I get a GoPro.

    1:35 so it's a hub drive. How do you change tire if it suddenly goes flat?

    Hello sir this is inspiring. I am gonna convert my PX200 1975. Is the retrokit available for large frame size too ? Apparently on their site they only sell the kit for small frame size Vespas

    • @randomtasks
      @randomtasks  2 года назад +1

      They sell the kit for large frame Vespas as well. Send them an email at sales@retrospectivescooters.com and tell them exactly what you have. I am 99% certain that they have a kit for your Vespa.

    Love this!
    I’m looking at doing the same to my 1977 Rally 200 and visited Retrospective Scooters when I was in London last year - so so fun to ride.
    I’m interested how the conversion is going as a daily rider? Any unexpected maintainance issues etc?

    • @randomtasks
      @randomtasks  Год назад

      I’m glad you like it. I’ve really loved riding my PX conversion. There have been no maintenance issues and no real downsides for how I ride it. When filtering through heavy traffic, I have learned to get behind a conventional motorbike so they can alert traffic if required by revving their engine. That’s the one downside of the silent nature of an EV. Otherwise, my only regret is not waiting a few more months before I bought the kit. The newest kits are much easier to install and are more powerful.

    • @MatthewThomson-le4xb
      @MatthewThomson-le4xb Год назад

      @@randomtasks This is excellent to hear, I am nervous about the silence as I’ve previously had a Malossi 210 which is very impolite though easy to be noticed in traffic - haha
      It feels like buying a new iPhone, timing it to get the latest version!

    Was this conversion done in the US and if so, we’re there any issues shipping the battery to the US?

    • @randomtasks
      @randomtasks  2 года назад

      No, this was done in the UK, but I know that Retrospective Scooters sells the kits to US customers, so they should be able to answer your question.

    Im very interested in this as it seems to be the way forward, any info on insurance? is it more or less expensive. Cheers

    • @randomtasks
      @randomtasks  Месяц назад

      It’s more expensive because there are less companies that offer insurance for electric motorbikes/scooters. Once more companies offer it, the prices should drop. I had to change insurance companies after the conversion.

    4 grand is too much for me to convert, from retrospect scooters,i ill wait until petrol is no longer available :O)

    • @randomtasks
      @randomtasks  8 месяцев назад

      It's not cheap, but it's high quality and it just works. I save roughly £15 each day that I don't take the train to work. I ride in at least 10 times per month, so that's £150 per month, or £1,800 per year.
