- Small build focusing on making quite a nice shop/bar build out of the boxcars.
I love making shops and bars in this game - and the boxcars called to me to make something grand - I hope you like it.

Most people hating on this dlc just suck at building and therefore don't understand the significance of any of the new items.
There are 2 opinions on Fallout 4:
-It is the worst Fallout game, which still makes it one of the best games in history (these people hate all the DLCs except Far Harbor)
-I am too busy building to care about the storyline. (These people love all the DLC)
+Elephant Warrior I can't play it because the lack of good anti-aliasing hurts my eyes :(
I actually like settlement building, I just hate the DLC because most of the items from these DLC's were already in mods. Actually, come to think of it, there are more items on some mods like Homemaker (which is free) than in all the Bob-the-Bulder packs combined (all of which are $5.00 individually.)
These modded items though they don't have that bethesda touch to it that just makes things balanced and functional.
Dylan Eyer Almost every modded item was already in the game, the mods just give you the ability to build them. Which is funny considering that's what a lot of the DLC is; items already in the game that you've just been given permission to use. The difference being that one is free, and the other isn't.
Should name the bar, "The Drunken Todd." It Just..... Works....

Kinda really looking forward to using a few concepts from this in my Oberland Station boxcar hotel suites. Using the scaffolding to build leisure areas on top of the cars is a great idea, kinda interested to see how well it would work to build skyways between em, over top of the farm. It's almost a shame, this DLC made a ton of the Far Harbor building stuff kinda obsolete, once you get off the island. The sorta rusty corrugated metal look fits so much better in the commonwealth.
Thanks for the video and ideas, David. You've completely changed my whole approach to this game with everything you've taught me in your videos.

I really like your videos mate. The amount of creativity you put in these structures is mindblowing. Maybe Bethesda should hire you for designing their game worlds or something like that.
I love your videos, I look forward to every new one you release. I'll say I've started a new build since Contraptions DLC came out and I'm working on building Sanctuary now. I used both rug glitches last play through without problem but they seem 10 times more finicky now so it's good to see you're having a little difficulty too.
Boxcars are gonna be so useful for making cool guard towers, and cool walkway/settlement entrances between them! Love this DLC
Respawn I found out something cool you can do with the new conduits! As of now the conduits kind of just fly around unless you have really flat land so when experimenting I found this out: If you make the entire circuit of your desire and connect everything up then use the pillar glitch you can make it so all of your power is like 90% underground! The only time power will be visible is when your making a direct connection like to the generator or to a turret.
Nice! I'm looking forward to trying out the boxcars and scaffolding. This video has definitely inspired me.
Daavee, Bethesda put out a video showing off contraptions and one of the guys shouted out this idea, he was like "I've seen people do really cool things with these box cars like put stores in them and turn them into little stores" or something like that.
Hey just experimented with warehouse roofs and repairing the roofs in Sanctuary. It works. Stack two warehouse half-walls, sloping roof piece, crown, sloping roof piece. You need the triangular walls on the sides to do it. Build out roof. Then use the concrete post glitch. Delete the lower half-wall. Keep the upper one temporarily to help with placement. Etc., etc. I'm sure you get the picture. Pretty good results, and you don't have to double stack shack floors to block out the light anymore!

I too love the DLC, but it has given me no small amount of heartache. I had been fighting for months to get my Settlers at Greygarden and Finch Farm to consistently live up on the overpasses, trying aligning and building and rebuilding all kinds of stairs to no great success. I was REALLY hoping elevators would be the answer, but as of right now they're one of the hardest things to place, they're a fixed height, and settlers are too stupid to use them unless I act as a bellman.

I can just imagine your reaction the first time you saw the track supports / warehouse supports (in the misc tab) 😂 also it's good to know even the pros have trouble snapping things into place sometimes haha

At a little after 14mins when you yelled, "Are you shitting me?" I laughed into my bong causing a Bongcano on my floor.
I'm currently using the box cars to make a little fort on my survival mode. real life doomsday preppers often use shipping containers as housing as they are fairly cheap and strong
Just a quick one I am loving your videos I have learned alot of tricks for making settlements from your videos. I just want to point out that the ramps snap to the scafolding floors you could have snapped one to the box car then put down the ramp then taken the floor away and placed down the prefab.
I'm impressed. It's only late in the video that you start cursing properly, and even then you don't sound particularly annoyed. I think I need to learn that mindset while building...

I am working on a boxcar wall around Sanctuary. I still need to decorate and put in shops, guard posts, etc. I will try to get a video of it and show you. I think it looks pretty cool.
So i've just recently started watching you(like 5 days ago) and i still dont get what exactly it is that i enjoy so much from your videos but there is something.
It is probably the "imb4 shut ur face" comments or the quality of the builds/tours.
imo best place to build a boxcar bar would be like Oberland station.
And as for a bar name, i always like to use "The Tipsy Brahman" based off the real life bar "The Tipsy Cow"
I need more ideas for scaffolding. I know there are awesome things I could do with it I'm just having trouble coming up with things that would fit in with what I've already built.

Great vid. as always! You have way more imagination than I do. :) Just curious though. Do you ever plan anything out before you start building, like make rough sketches or anything. Or do you just start piecing things together on the fly and just count on your amazing inspiration to see you through? Whatever you do please continue! Take care, from an American fan of your series.

I made a box car shop video yesterday too! Ha ha! Still need to edit it but it's gonna be like twenty minutes. I take so long building things and you're just like bish bash bosh, box car building.
It turned out really cool though, the cycling lights look really nice and ambient inside the box cars.
I doubt Bethesda will ever patch the rug glitch, its the kind of super helpful, simple and useful exploit that it would be only a hindrance to patch out.
Norespawns, it would be really cool if you made a build in the wreckage of the Prydwyn. I know you'd need the conquest mod if you'd actually want to. But it could have a really wastelandy vibe.

You can combine the rug and pillar glitch! Object on rug+hold X on pillar near the rug.
I found this out earlier. It is my new favorite method.

Robbie Miller Ya its amazing, I found it out when trying to place a guard post inside of a concrete curve. I placed the guard post on the rug and put a pillar near the rug. I held A (Xbox) on the pillar and was able to place it anywhere I want at any height I wanted.
when farcry 3 came out i was building little fallout looking maps, i love fallout 4s building

Can you try to find a way to lower the elevators into the ground? Neither the pillar nor the rug glitch seem to work. You can't even snap them to already lowered platforms. I hate floating objects. :/
Oi, when you do the video of the power armor workshop, can you give tips on decoration using the new things add on the contraptions and on wasteland workshop? My decoration kinda sucks, even after watching you decorating homeplate, and such and such.
I wish I knew how to multiate the glitches better because I scraped so many ideas because I couldn't get the pieces to go where I want

Does anyone else have the issue that you cannot "Store" any of the new items into your workshop? I can only scrap them and I get NO materials back. It is so Fing annoying. I don't know if I should uninstall the DLC then re-download and wonder if it will mess up my saves.
It happened to me once. when I restarted the game it was fine.
+kikisian I have restarted a few times I hope it's not my save. I guess when I get off work I can play around with it. I can still store all pre contraption items. Sigh what a pain in the ass.

This was my response from Bethesda which obviously is no help so I replied and I guess hopefully I have an answer soon.

The Contraptions add-on content is available to you at any point in the game so long as you have a Settlement and Workshop available to your character. Simply find a Workshop to get started!
Note: The Contraptions add-on content does not provide the necessary resources or unlock the perks required to craft certain things. You may need to gather materials and unlock the perks manually."

Cubone I think that is just a light that is a wire with a few bulbs hanging from it
Hey can you make a video on all the glitches you use? I cant get the mat glitch to work and the pillar doesnt work all the time (im new so if you already have one of these sorry but i havent seen one)
The mat glitch you just gotta make sure it isn't in the ground and on the mats, pillar glitch you just put a pillar close to the item you want to sink into the ground, hold X on PS4 or whatever your interact key is and you'll grab the pillar and the item.

i like contraptions, but i have to say i am annoyed that none of the scaffolding stuff clips to the other materials, and that the elevators don't either
Elevator floors use the height of warehouse and barn walls.
Scaffolding frames clip to floor pieces tediously. From there, you can add the floor planks to them.
A good name might be "HOWARD BAR AND GRILL" 😂😂😂😂

They both still work the same as they did.
They should still be working because they haven't been patched, but they're not.
The doc has brought a lot of compatibility issues, my mods frequently crash the system because they don't yet have compatibility with the dlc.

I f the rug and concrete pole glitches are patched, I'm done with F4. Why would they? What harm is there in having it? So what if I glitch things? Why should Beth care? It adds to my enjoyment of the game. I have to believe that Beth understands this.

I love all the workshop DLCs and stuff but I swear to christ Bethesda needs to actually make things snap better
There is a better place anywhere mod can place anywhere even behond borders witch makes repairing and building more interesting.
I have gotten cool ideas from your videos the box car shack turned into a whole homestead fit 30 something beds in it when it was done.
I've just built the most epic Greenhouse with adjacent adjoining sub-level living quarters but cant put anything in them as I've hit build limit. haha DOH!

I think the problem was that 'brexit' was so damn rabid abt it and a lot of 'remain' just assumed it'd be ok, other people would vote remain as a majority so they didn't bother. The map of hotspots of leave versus remain voting is quite telling, I thought.
I'm trying to remain optimistic, there's still ways this can be challenged, I think though not entirely sure of the process following the referendum so...could parliament refuse to accept the result & not put forward the bill, if so then I'm assuming if they do put the bill through then it'll have to pass through the Lords still & they can hopefully veto it??

+Timbo Underskroll I'm an Xbox user, I was checking to see if norespawns was fan girling over new building, weapon, armour, performance and texture mods. Some even have great story, you ps4 users are gonna be pretty happy when they release the final version on ps4.
