Tom Jones is a Welsh singer who has one of the smoothest powerful voices around. And he was a showman too, in fact he was a big heart-throb with the ladies. He has so many hits such as "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "It's Not Unusual", "What's New Pussycat?", "Green, Green Grass of Home", "She's a Lady" etc. He covers a lot of genres. He is still performing & is a coach on "The Voice" UK version. He also had a variety show from 69 - 71 & had some of the biggest music stars at the time.

"It's almost like you see all the incredible talent, but you can't quite pick up on what it is." Exactly. I've seen/heard this performance countless times over the years, but his delivery is just so natural, so apparently effortless, that the mechanics behind the magic are just too elusive to catch - and, certainly, to dissect - at times. Everything just flows right by (or through?) you - as any great performance should. It all seems to be completely second-nature to him. There was a great quote by someone (can't remember who). They were talking about some professional athlete's ability and said that it was like watching someone doing something they've always known as opposed to something they had to learn. I feel the same way about Jones as a vocalist and performer. A true master of his craft.

How he got the men involved was so well done. Many a time I heard men before entering the showroom say they were only there because their wife or girlfriend wanted to see him. On the way after the show I would often hear, "We're coming back next year to see Tom" (notice on the 1st name basis). He was certainly quite a showman who played to the whole audience. Interestingly, that also came across in his recordings.

Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck were the two great British male singers from back in the 60's. Engelbert's voice was right up there with Tom's but Tom was more dynamic and the better showman. It's so great that you do the older singers as well as the new.
Speaking of new can I make a suggestion for Lucy Thomas, an English girl, from four years ago at the age of 15 singing 'Listen' from Dreamgirls. It's a difficult song and she nailed it. Also the video is entirely close ups of her singing so you get to see all of her workings as she sings. She has about sixty videos on her RUclips channel 'Lucy Thomas Music' and some of them are duets with her nearly six years younger sister Martha.

My parents had me singing "It's Not Unusual" on a reel-to-reel around 1970, when I was 3 years old. I was taking liberty with the lyrics, singing "It's Not Unwoosual". Sir Tom and the Beatles were my biggest influences when I was young for singing and guitar playing, learning solo singing from Tom, and harmonizing from the lads from Liverpool.

A shout out to the arranger. Including mariachi brass was bold.

I remember seeing this performance and this video replays it well. Tom Jones was a master at singing most any song. During his time as a performer, he was one of the 'sexy singers'! lol

I feel you were captivated by him; not as a vocal Coach, but as a beautiful young lady feeling he was singing only to you! I love your video! ❤️

Love your channel ❤ Yes Tom has unbelievable stage charisma. He was close friends with Elvis and Elvis himself once said that Tom's voice was incredible.

He got his first break to fame on a tv talent show in the 60’s called “Opportunity Knocks” a sort of forerunner to Britain’s Got Talent, which he won

The best "yeah" ever recorded is Tom Jones at the beginning of "If I only knew".

I so loved watching his TV show back in the day! I wish they would make a movie about him he deserves it! He an Adele should do a collaboration. He always had sway in his clothing style and his presence back then and still today... He's a silver fox! 🌼

One of the greats, to be certain! I listened to a talk show interview back in the early 70s in which he tongue-in-cheek complained he didn't get flowers tossed onto the stage when he sang. He got knickers and room keys!
