- Like thousands of incarcerated women, Kemba Smith was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her boyfriend. She witnessed some of his illegal activity and was subsequently held accountable for his actions after he was murdered.
Although Ms. Smith never sold or used drugs, federal prosecutors charged her with conspiracy to distribute cocaine. And because of the harsh federal sentencing laws in effect at the time, she was sentenced to 24 ½ years in prison without the possibility of parole despite being a first-time, nonviolent offender who was seven months pregnant. The Legal Defense Fund became involved with Kemba’s case after learning the injustices she suffered.

I never heard of her story until the movie. It’s a miracle she got out. God bless her and her family and Michelle too bc she’s still incarcerated ❤
Just watched the move I’m sad her friend is still in there
Me too. What is happening for her case??
I am as well however, its many sisters in the system with sane story I hurting I'm truly sadden for them all
THAT'S sad and expected. In the book from Africa to Timbuktu, I read how the PARENTS would pick THEIR child husband/ WIFE. GO BACK TO OUR CULTURE. CUZ IT IS NOT THIS SYSTEM. Read Jerimiah😅 and I am not condoning any of it, just saying it's expected.
Agreed…and parents need to be ppl of wisdom because there are a lot of foolish parents as well. A good man of TMH will help a good woman find a good husband
I just watched this movie yesterday. Very sad but she was blessed to have parents that supported her in every way possible, plus others who stepped up in a mighty way. Not all folks have that at all..many behind bars today were unjustly sentenced and have no one to support them in any way. This is America but much in our society doesn't portray equality , especially to those who are of color, (or determined to be of an undesired socioeconomic status) that are seen as being of no real significance and are very much dispensable..💯👍🏾
She was so gullible and looking for love in all the wrong places teach your daughters the difference between a men that will keep you out of his business he used her because he knew she was gullible the first time he put his hands on her she should have never came back
Kemba u knew EXACTLY What u was into. U use to make trips dropping off drugs and money from State to State for him. U were NOT Naive to what that man was doing. Stop it
That still wasn't worth the amount of time she initially had. Ppl get less time for committing murder 🤦🏽♀️
That's the Chance u Take
Obviously, she knows what she was doing. Either way, did you wanna be a dead women? Or someone them at can live on to tell their truth. No matter what she did, GOD really knew that girls intentions and her heart, she didn't deserve 24 long years. If she didn't do what that man told her to do, he was just going to end up killing her anyway . You will never know about these situations until YOUR IN IT. That's what why I try to humble my self a little bit before talking down on ANYONE
Her story is phonemnal to God Be All The Glory Along with The sorority Delta Sigma Theta incorporated ❤ Along with many others and most importantly our former president of the united states of America President Bill Clinton beautiful although there are many others Kemba Smith story lit a 🔥 flare
I remember her story 30 years ago....
Ms kemba is awesome I saw her today
What happened to inmate Michelle in this story?
They showrd at the end that Michelle is still incarcerated serving 50 years.
How about the part when she transported money up to NYC..That's make you know what your doing.
That didn't deserve 25 1/2 years 🤦🏽♀️
@@crystalbrown6619 she was part of the drug trafficking it does
She never said she didn’t do anything wrong. But she didn’t sell nor use drugs. And according to the movie, she even turned herself in. Nothing she did was worth more than 24 months if that.

I stopped feeling sorry for her after she seen the drugs at the table😂
Y’all people are so dumb
It took me 2 weeks to watch the story!! She was too stupid for me
It's not feeling sorry for her that matters it's about the Law with a first offense
Dont feel sorry for women who choose to do this at all yall are not Innocent
I don't feel sorry for her🤷🏾♀️
Such a weird and unnecessary comment to make. Hope u or those u love don’t deal with this form of injustice.
@@chavandarobinson2789 wasn't no Injustice she was dumb and who are you to tell me what a weird comment is foh
She didn't deserve 25 1/2 years. No one said she was completely innocent. But that punishment does not fit the crime!
@@chavandarobinson2789 yeah well we won't because we don't date drug dealers and low life people. I dont have to feel bad for the decisions that she kept continuing to choose to put her in the situation she ended up in. And that Bet movie didn't make her look any better. If she was a black man yall wouldn't be so kind or empathetic. They are served injustice EVERYDAY! AS A BLACK PERSON MOST OF US HAVE HAD SOME TYPE OF UNFAIR TREATMENT. BUT SHE IS NO VICTIM. @@crystalbrown6619 I agree but he was doing the most and she was right there for all of it. Too many times she should of abandoned ship and had the resources to leave and she continued to stay.
