    I know a lot of people didn't really like the cyclops because it was so bulky and was kinda slow but IMO that's what made the cyclops so satisfying to use. You felt safe in the cyclops but not too safe which is kinda the vibe that makes the whole original subnautica work the unintended horror was the best part of the game and it was always a relief when you got the cyclops back out of places like the lost river. The sea truck doesn't give that same vibe it pretends to be more maneuverable than the cyclops but once you get more than 3 or 4 modules on it it really isn't much of an improvement as far as mobility and a big down grade in terms of utility. Personally I gave up on the Sea Truck and just ran around in my prawn suit for most of below zero including the land based sections.

    I must say that, after playing the original subnautica again after a few playthroughs of below zero, the seamoth, cyclops combo felt soooo much more versetile than the seatruck ever felt. I do however understand why the cyclops isn't in below zero, i mean the game is so small it wouldn't have fit anywhere..

    I spent a lot of time in the original Subnautica wishing there was a midsize sub between the Seamoth and the Cyclops. The Seatruck... was not what I envisioned. The modules are there for customization, but honestly they make it feel LESS customizable since the module designs and utility feel so limited. I was amazed by how little the "storage" module could hold. I really wish it was more like a smaller Cyclops, maybe a third the size, with the ability to build inside of it, and therefore make it truly customizable.

  • @bijan9116
    @bijan9116 Год назад +18

    Very late reply, but I think the Seatruck has potential to be really good with a few small tweaks. It just feels like it was deliberately designed to be suboptimal. For example:
    - Why can't the one of the two aquariums in the module support breeding instead of capturing fish?
    - Why does the fabricator module waste so much space when it can easily house two more small lockers?
    - Why is the storage module so stingy with the space it offers?
    - Why does the docking module panel simply act as an eject button instead allowing for Prawn suit inventory and upgrade access from within the seatruck?
    - Why wasn't the seatruck given a more direct power generation upgrade option? Every vehicle in the original had this capability, and the Prawn suit even retained it in Below Zero, so it just feels like an odd omission.
    One thing the seatruck *does* have over the Cyclops is that it technically functions like bringing both a Seamoth and a Prawn suit, as the suit can be docked at the back, and you can always disconnect the front cabin from the rest of modules to function like a seamoth. The Cyclops never had this flexibility; it could only bring one or the other on a trip.

  • @TheFoodieCutie

    At first I really didn’t like the Cyclops because it was clunky and slow. When you had to start going down to the lost river and stuff, I started to really like it. I felt safe in the cyclops and it was a nice home! The deeper you went down into the areas, that Cyclops was always a welcome shelter from the dangers below. Since you’re down below so long, it really becomes your home! Nothing felt so good when you finished up down below and started the long, dangerous journey back to the surface in your cyclops, and when you finally came back out of the river, it really was a wonderful achievement!

Move carefully, go silent running or even stop when beast was around and close.

    A planter module and a Thermal mod or a solar module would make me like the Seatruck a whole lot more. I don't hate it, it's just not implemented well or "right" imo. The aquarium module, just needs to suck more, the sleep module would be useable if you replaced the juke box with a full size storage locker (maybe? Even then...) the teleportation module is far too late game to really matter much, storage would be fine if it they got rid of the smaller 2x6 lockers and just had two or three of the bigger lockers on each side, no complaints about the fabrication module. It's a neat idea, just needs a little more thought and less "RP" to be good.

      My most recent try at BZ, to see if setting aside my adoration for Subnautica and attempting make it seem like the original by muting Robin and PDA's Voice(s) and clicking Subtitles off, seeing if that can somewhat make it bearable. i also self imposed restrictions to the Seatruck, Engine+Storage(MBV, Tools, Food, Water, Batteries)+Sleeper+2x Storage+Aquarium+Dock. The Prawn Suit i also set up restrictions on, Drill+Grapple+2x Storage+Thermal+Efficiency. My Tools, Scanner, Knife, Glide, Repair, Builder. I can also only set up small bases, Multipurpose Singles, 4way X connecters, T Corner Loop-arounds. basically on the bases i imposed the restriction of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Small and Simple. For overall bits inside my bases; Planter, Fabricator, Battery+Power Cell Chargers, Hatch, 4-12 Wall Lockers. so far it is making more enjoyable. i still have to force myself to play, but not as much as before... then again BZ was meant to be DLC and porting it up means it fails heavily in a lot of things, specially since Unknown is getting Greedy...

    It's a much better long distance gopher than a base. I do like that I can have a bunch of modules that allow me to stay out away from my base for an extended time and can then detach them to explore narrow areas. The combination utility of the cyclopes with the mobility of the sea moth is very nice, but you do sacrifice the versatility of making it a full base.

    Cyclops is always gonna be my #1
    I love the thing so much, and I use it so much, that I've actually gotten really good at avoiding running into things, so I take the cyclops everywhere, I honestly live in it more than I do my normal bases, it's where food is, it's where water is, it's where every kind of fabricator is except the vehicle upgrade console, it's where literally all my storage is, it's where my bed is, it's where my medkit fabricators are, it's where my cuddledish are, it's my way to avoid dying to leviathans (Silent running, decoy tube, sheild gen, sonar, etc)

    The only main issue is the seatruck’s reliance on length to increase size while the cyclops possessed more width and depth. A mobile base built in a cyclops drives like a truck. A seatruck mobile base with the same capabilities drives like trying to control a full length train.

    On my last play through I would fill up part of the sea truck storage module with food that won’t spoil, and stay out as long as I have supplies doing story missions. Having the fabricator module attached really makes it a mobile base, since that’s halve the reason to visit the base anyways. And you can cook food. Being able to use planters on the Cyclopes was convenient, but it broke the emersion. Limit food, limited batteries, makes it a temporary base. As least the sea truck is a unique experience.

    A year or so late, but I just recently finished Below Zero for the one and only time I am going to play it. The Sea Truck makes for a terrible base, but it is the better underwater vehicle between the Prawn and it. The Prawn is better on land, but since they nerfed the movement freedom (compared to Subnautica), it just wasn't as fun to roam around the ocean in. The Sea Truck could go just about anywhere the Prawn could and had the Defense upgrade, which was more than sufficient to dissuade any of the sea critters, including the Leviathans. Just carry a couple of spare Power Cells and set up a couple of recharge bases.
    So yeah, I wouldn't worry about a mobile base in BZ. Just set up a few Moonpool + MP Room with Nuke Reactors kind of bases and use the Sea Truck as an expeditionary vehicle.

  • @justarkzy
    @justarkzy Год назад +1

    I've thought about it before, but it's not possible for an efficient base. Can't charge powercells/batteries in the Seatruck. I understand why this is, as it would be a bit odd to recharge a powercell with a powercell, though they could've done a module of 2 battery chargers and 2 powercell chargers that had solar panels on it. Can't grow food/water properly. The aquarium should be replaced with a indoor planter, able to produce around 6-8 plants, could also have a water filtration area as well. They clearly either didn't think about the possibility of trying to make it completely mobile, or they didn't want people to make a mobile base. I loved doing it in the original Subnautica with the Cyclops. I had that thing kitted out with lockers galore so I could collect anything and everything. The storage module should've had 2 bench-sized storages with 2 lockers between it on each wall, would've been perfect.

Since so much of this game is near the surface and on land, a mobile base that stays above the water wouldn't be a problem. -Make the sea truck feel like an actual truck by removing how drastically the modules slow down your speed. I am meant to believe this thing is used for heavy transit, but it can't even realistically support more than 3 modules without an upgrade, which barely helps. -add a heavy duty seamoth, which the prawnsuit can cling to and has small storage and fabricator built in. Requirements: 1-2 storage modules, 1 fabricator module and an aquarium module. You can use this as a limited exploration base but not a full time one, the seatruck has low hp but the modules can cover 4 basics, storage, crafting, food and water and recharging. Nowhere close to the potential of the cyclops but still can work.

    @BenjaminSchwartz-0950S Год назад

    Its good as the transport system its meant to be, as it can carry the prawn, have a fabricator, play music, give storage, and more. That makes it a very good vehicle already.
    Here’s the pros and cons :
    Pros : Can craft, can store the prawn, can store a LOT of items, let you sleep anywhere, work as a functional vehicle, go down to the bottom of the world completely safe, and have a good base speed with no modules, and finally, the perimeter defense system is absolutely OP. (Also, you can’t take damage if you get out of your seat and stand in your seatruck, the leviathans can’t touch it)
    Cons : Gets slower when you use its main features, doesn’t give you modification station crafts, and needs a special docking station if you have 1 or more modules.
    Overall, it’s good. However, you can only use around 3-4 modules before it just is too slow to be efficient.
    Its also basically necessary, so theres no reason not to use it. I used it throughout my entire playthrough, and barely used the prawn.

You can’t grow plants in it, so you will have to stock up on food and water for the journey. The aquarium module is useful in Ghent and works best if you park it in a place where a lot of fish will be swimming by, and let them swim into it of their own accord. And make sure not to run out of power.

Would be kind of narrow to be practical ofc, a possibility to grow food would be nice, but if you can keep food from spoiling inside the truck it would be okay if you have to grow the food at a main base, I'm somewhat okay with that you can't charge batteries inside the truck, you can bring extra batteries / powercells for longer missions.

In my Below zero playthrough I used it with a storage, fabricator and prawn suit module, which felt pretty good for resource gathering and also if I wanted to fabricate something on the spot, namely while on land as going back to the sea truck was faster and more convenient than going back to my home base. I just wish you could build stuff in the sea truck, that would have been a game changer.

    I personally hate the seatruck. I have a very minimalist play style where I only take what I strictly need, and even then the sea truck doesn't do it for me. But, I think that has more to do with the way the biomes are designed, than with the vehicles themselves. They put like 1/3rd of the game above ground for which you are only there for a tiny stretch, and you only have to go super deep for the literal very end game. In this regard the original game was better designed because you were forced to go deep, and you where down there for a good bit of the game. SNBZ doesn't do that. The made the game significantly shallower, and smaller. In some regard I feel like they designed the game biomes to work around the sea truck rather than the other way around.

    the cyclops is a good mobile base, the sea moth is a good mobile transportation system, but i think most people don't recognize the intended use of the seatruck. it is meant to be used as a mobile F.O.B. it isn't meant to be 100% independent base like the cyclops, nor is it meant to fill the role of a car to zip around the map in like the sea moth, it is meant to give you a place to act as a temporary base while away from your main base; so you aren't having to keep making trips back and forth across the entire map or just make a base every time you are going to be in an area a lot. its honestly quite ingenious if not for some minor problems that could have been easily fixed.

    let me explain. the cyclops in the late game isn't just a mobile base it is THE BASE. you can have everything you need on it thus borderline eliminate the needs for you to make other base. now with sea truck being so limited, your base has more use than it is in original subnuatica and i like the idea of explore, built base and then continue explore more than just have your mobile base being all you need in the late game tbh.

    I think it is totally deliberate. The cyclops was amazing, but once you aquired it your "permant" base seemed a bit useless. I think the point here is to lead you to interact more with the new habbitats in order to gather resourses and progress in the game and not to aquire everything having the safety of a "base" always near you. Basically the seatruck seems more like a super seaglide rather than an aquatic vehicle. Hence the snowfox, right? It is cool, but it only goes places, which then you have to explore!

    The truck wouldn't be so bad if you could customize the inside, and it is a "neat" idea, but that's as far as it goes. They seemed to focus on a lot of the wrong stuff.
    The handheld detector for example, is another neat idea but without it connecting to the HUD, it's nearly fucking useless. Just make scanner rooms.
    They also put way too much into the story, decorations and shit like that. I preferred it simple and vague, with no NPCs making you do their petty work. Another benefit of a silent protagonist with no personal connection to the story.
    There are still vast swathes of open ocean, if you made a true carrier type sub that could house trucks, moths and prawns (maybe pick two). All vehicles have a function that way. The moth is faster and more fragile, but great for reconnaissance and base to base travel. The truck could be your little work horse you dispatch from the carrier after returning from scouting resources, prawn suit attached and all (with better storage on the "truck", justifying its own name).
    They desperately need a third vehicle, it's too limited.

    IMO If seatruck allowed us so build inside the modules it would have been close to perfect. They could basically add another module there you can build inside of that module. Fabricator module should provably be redone, there is a lot of extra space in it for more storage etc or maybe for battery charging, why not add solar panels to it as well? Making that module basically like the pod, they both are similar in size after all.

    Issues why seatruck isnt mobile base are few, at best it is mobile outpost, mainly as you can have only like three modules to it be anyhow reasonably mobile
    If there was planter module, it would rocket seatruck as base much higher
    There isnt recharge module or any reliable recharge method out of actual base, which even meant that you shouldnt use jukebox, fabricator is also to be used only for absolute necesity, you cant recharge prawn from it or tools
    Aquarium module is good for passive food 'production' but still, you need to burn power to cook it, going to release fish to kill them kills reason to catch them in aquarium, I guess, and it can get clustered by penglings, to me it at least happened everytime near spawn locations of those
    So at best, seatruck is to be took to some spot for material gathering, fill it up and return to tube docking station, with enough modules to be decent at least base, it is not mobile, and when it is anyhow reasonably mobile, I cant call it even horrible base

To prevent this they limited the seatrucks ability to replace a (whole) base setup. In the End i think the cyclops was unhealty to the gameplay. It makes you lose any fear of depth, leaviathans and darkness. I liked the "exploring" and being vulnerable much more on the seamoth.

    In terms of gameplay necessity, I understand the choices made with the Seatruck. However, even as someone who has yet to play firsthand, it truly feels like the Seatruck is more of an excursion vehicle than a mobile base of operations. To that effect, it is my opinion that the only things you need are: the Sleeper Module to set a spawn point, one Fabricator Module, one or two Storage Modules, and the Prawn Caboose. The Aquarium is just useless.

    I honestly adore the concept of the Seatruck, and how good of a middle ground it is in between the Seamoth and Cyclops. I do wish that the BZ map was… So… So much bigger than what it is.. Like, I wish it was 3x bigger than base Subnautica’s map was.. Which was already huge, and while it’d take so much more effort and fine tuning, especially with how bad the game was already optimized upon release and a few months after that, I really do think that if they just delayed the game for another year, they could’ve really made some jaw dropping and enjoyable crap, and since we would not only have a bigger map, meaning we’d be able to have the more efficient, but less practical Cyclops, we could’ve also had an amazing middle ground and dynamic with it alongside the Cyclops, and at that point, even though I love the Seamoth, I would still be okay with it not being in BZ just because we’d have the option of two viable vehicles. Having said that, I do have problems with the Seatruck… Mainly of how it literally becomes just one linear line of energized Duplo blocks, which already make it difficult to navigate, but as well as the Horsepower module making it all the worse by not helping enough. I honestly think it should stack, and that there should be some kind of late game ability to build more upgrade slots into the Seatruck, but not to an overpowered point, and BZ already has difficulty skilling problems. But all the way back to my original point; when I first heard about the Seatruck and how it would be modular… I thought they meant like a snake.. And I do have to admit, that would have to take so, so much work and fine tuning to achieve, but I would’ve absolutely adored the Seatruck rather than just the concept had it been that way. To elaborate on what I mean by “Snake” is that, with some farther spacing of the modules, of course, as well as limitations, that each module would be able to curve to adjust to the routing of the Seatruck itself - I don’t mean like auto adjustment, but that they would follow the same curve as the same Seatruck itself. I recognize that would take so much pathing work, and probably even memory… but I can’t help but imagine how absolutely and absurdly cool that would be. It’d also make the game so much more immersive as the Seatruck would basically be mimicking movements of sea creatures. But, sadly, those ideas are just fantasies. I’d honestly really like it they just put a hole on Subnautica 3, and remaster BZ. The story, the map, the AI, collision, everything except the visuals - as they are already hecking beautiful, and leads me to believe that’s where all the original effort went into.
    Anyways, whoever actually had the motivation to listen to my spiel, I thank you. Have a cookie 🍪 :D

    I think it sucks. Not having a thermal upgrade or some upgrade that recharges the batteries (eg. solarcharger for the seamoth - some eqivilant) really makes it meh for me. I also find it annoying, in that after doing trips out from a base with a moonpool, you have to go back and let it charge, cannot stay out exploring for so long until batteries need to be recharged. So it can serve very well as a storage train but its modules aren't too great.
    I prefer the cyclops and the seamoth still. I'm currently going through my first playthrough on the nitendo switch version and coming from OG Subnautica on the ps4, and the many hours I spent in that game, I don't think it was as good as the OG, almost like it took a step back. Really wish the original story for below zero could have remained, more interesting than the current one.

    Its kinda unfair to compare the sea truck to the cyclops in whether it works well enough as a mobile case. Its like comparing a trucker that has to stop at motels on long hauls to an RV mobile home. Yes Cyclops is great because its customizable in so many ways, but until you get the thermal energy mod, you still need to run back home for powercells. My seatruck loadout is usually the storage, fabricator and dock modules. And I usually carry enough material to make a basic multi purpose room, hatch, solar panel. 3 lockers and maybe a bio power. This lets me make quick start up bases wherever I go, so I can explore the neighboring areas and collect stuff. BZ is small enough map that carrying a few power cells and batteries is enough to get you through most of the game....
