As well as Liu Chong not starting with show of force, the new patch seems to change Cao Cao’s behaviour a bit so he takes the livestock farm on turn 1 and then moves on, so the lightning attack on him is definitely less viable (although I’d say still doable in a few more turns if you’re careful)
Ya what do you do now without show of force? This strategy depends on it.
Thanks, this guide helped me a lot. Also i got Lu Bu and Tashi Chi early on in my legendary campaign and with Liu Chong they would be able to just take on full stack armies as 3 solo generals.
I replayed and destroyed Cao Cao like you taught us. much easier than keeping Cao Cao to get stronger. Great guide.
I would love to watch a series where you walk us through the three kingdoms saga! Maybe like a chapter by chapter of ROT3K or just cover famous events from the period. Seems like you are really knowledgable. I’d love it.
I have a whole playlist called let's talk lore that does exactly that but not only from a ROT3K but from history as well.
If you have MTU mod installed (even not active), it will mess with your character skill trees and Liu Chong will not have Show of Force active at the beginning. This guide was played on patch 1.5.2 beta with no mods.

@@thevenbede767 no they patched out the skill in the very next patch. The final patch 1.7.2, Liu Chong do not have show of force at the start and you have to level him up once to get it

Couldn't have done it better myself. One important thing to note about Chen Peacekeepers however is they lack the ability to shoot while moving. So you have to line them up for a volley before charging. Its the reason why they are registered as Earth Units rather than Water. Then again i firmly believe that they are the best Earth unit in the game. Even better than Imperial Household cavalry.
If you want to boost them even further then try to get Sun Ce through marriage for the insane charge boost. Just hope that Sun Jian's event doesn't fire though
Are the Imperial Cavalry still 1/2 Retinue size? Or was that a bug that was eventually fixed. I tend to favor the Imperial Cavs just because they have more bodies and thus more volume of bolts being flung at my target when they're in ranged mode.

No longer works in Furious wild, Liu Chong no longer starts off with his unique ability. Has to gain a level to grab it.

Yeah I’m trying to follow through and I got up to the part w the show of force ability and I’m like dafuq do I do now lmao. I keep getting steam rolled by either Yuan Shu, Cao Cao, Liu Biao, or eventually Yuan Shao. Granted, I’m not particularly good at the game but for a campaign rated easy this seems quite tough.
Man the first battle...that was such bad RNG..

Great guide,I struggled a bit with Liu Chong.
He's,however,really worth it.

In my 194 sun ce campaign Liu Chong and Kong Rong joined me with taishi ci I will make imperial army crossbow soon. Lu bu wiped out Kong Rong and Cao Cao dominating the north with Yuan Shao 10 vassals includes Liu Bei. It's gonna be huge campaign. I hope Liu Chong don't die. Also Zheng Jiang Lu Zheng joined me instead of Qiaos . Idk why they have not spawn yet I am already in war with Yuan Shu Lujiang is mine.
sounds epic (especially the Yuan Shao with 10 vassals)! Zheng Jiang is very good in your court in the late game with her bonus to tribute income.

love playing as lui chong. such a fun faction and has great units. such a shame though his background isnt super good for late game. who would be the perfect heir to replace liu chong? i was thinking cao cao or yuan shao for the 50% family estate bonus. would be nice to know
I mean if you can get any other leader then they would be best. If not Sun Ce to boost all your unique cavalry charge bonus by 100% would be nice too.
I've played as all factions, and I have to say Liu Chong is the most enjoyable. Note, I do play with a ton of mods such as Wu, Radious (with increased upkeep otherwise too easy and massive turn times), Dynamic WuXing, Havie Skills (more specialized heroes), 8TPY, ... because the base game is lacking in unit and hero variety, and Liu Chong dies too early without a TPY mod.
Liu Chong has the most interesting start being surrounded by all the big players with ZERO natural barriers to protect yourself, and he has a big economic disadvantage as well. So that won't make the starting situation boring like with Sun Jian or Cao Cao. Not to mention Liu Chong himself is a very fun to play hero, as well as his BFF Luo Jun. And his unique units are amazing. The Earth units are sorely lacking in variety, so the Chen Peacekeepers are a great addition to the roster.
I only have two issues with Liu Chong:
1) He doesn't have a unique building chain.
2) His trophy cabinet is a bit too stale. The buffs should be slightly bigger, but should also add debuffs.
Liu Chong is basically still a god on the battlefield. just curious, how many units would it take to defeat Liu Chong if battle time limit is turned off?
If you don’t have something faster than him even no amount of men is enough
I got Cao Ren as heir using your idea during Liu Bei series. But it cost too much to divorce the strategist girl at early start who is already married, and adopt her then receive with Cao Cao for Cao Ren. By that time I got no cash left
wouldn't it be easier to adopt a random as a daughter then go for the marriage?

Will you possibly do a updated video on Liu Chong's start. Cao Cao no longer waits a turn and now goes straight for the farmland and then pencheng. If I follow the guide after I took the farmland Cao Cao attacks and destroys me, and if I don't go for the farmland he'll act like I don't exist
eventually since he is a DLC faction he has to wait for his turn

You'll probably have to redo this guide once they put a cap on his ability though.
they might nerf him because they tend to keep one or two powerful factions to sell DLCs (power creep is real) and Liu Chong is the bait for Mandate of Heaven like Sun Ce and Lu Bu for A World Betrayed
A really good and a bit cheesy guide for Liu Chong. Thank you. Mind I ask what would be an alternative strategy to fighting cao Cao, given the ai update (and He Yi to deal with if taking Chen) and the lv6 requirement for show of power? I have been trying a lot to survive, but I either get destroyed by Cao Cao’s main army before he builds up a full stack or chase his army towards Huai Nan ( and get defeated anyway). I could really use some suggestions. Much appreciated.
Are you building up an army for Liu Chong? So without show of force you have to be a bit more defensive here as you are in a tough spot in the beginning. You don’t have to make Cao Cao your enemy and just appease him in diplomacy early and expand south instead since your starting area isn’t that great to begin with.
@@SeriousTrivia The problem I have with my army is I can’t afford a lot of spear guard with yingchuan ( tbh, even spear guard can’t hold back Xiahou dun and xiahou yuan). The militia are just walking sack of meat in their eyes. I may consider not engaging cao cao in my next attempt, but he really likes causing the neighbours to declare war on me during my play throughs as other factions around him.
This guide worked great until they locked Show of Force behind Lv6. Now, sadly it is pretty much invalidated because the entire guide was 'abuse Show of Force'. The solution now is basically do the opposite to this guide. Play defensive, don't annoy people (Cao Cao) and follow the missions in game. If you're not careful you will still come to a point where you are at war with both He Yi and Cao Cao, and they are both throwing stacks at you while you can only afford one 2/3 stack to fight them both.
@@tharoz6406 That is painfully true. Now I really think migrating to the south is the most viable solution to Liu Chong's campaign.
Is it still possible to do everything in this guide without show of force at the start?
Yes but you would just fight the battle normally and take a fair bit of damage. It would depend a lot on how comfortable you are with battles

im confused by what "win 30 battles while commanding" means, Iv played and won over 30 battles and its not unlocked(no auto resolve).
is that 30 battles with Liu Chong?
Liu Chong need to fight those in the commanding position of the army (left most position)

What are your PC specs? I'm sure you posted it somewhere before, but couldn't find it... Runs so smoothly, I always get a lag when zooming on the campaign map...
It’s not too fancy actually since I had PC issue in February and had to put together a new one on the fly. But the cpu is AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core processor and the gpu is a AMD Radeon RX 5700. It also has a lot to do with what type of game graphic setting you are running as well.

So what is the best course of action. Try and rank up to unlock "show of force" and then handle Yuan Shu then later Cao Cao?
You definitely can go that route or just play like normal. I would advice only picking one enemy and get some deals with the other to make things a bit more manageable early on without show of force
@@SeriousTrivia Thanks! I've been trying Liu Chong and I do like him. I married a daughter of Yuan Shao (for 1 food and 1 ancillary) with the intention of handling the Cao Cao threat (which will be more of a problem later than Yuan Shao). However, Yuan Shao still declared war on me along with Yuan Shao. The situation difficult right now. Liu Ching still has a way to go to level up. I have the YI to the south who declared war, Yuan Shu to the west, and Tuan Shao to the north (only being held off by my family. So, my real concern was Cao Cao and is my only friend! Hard stuff, but fun. We'll see how it turns out. Please let us know if you have an updated strategy.
Sorry mean married into Yuan Shu family and Yuan Shu still declared war.
Just starting this, they change his show of force to need 1 level to get it, also the chen guards got 220 range now, should i now keep the retinue?
i would not get any Chen royal guards early since their damage is just the crossbow but they cost way too much

@NeillBS yes the developers made this change after seeing this guide. You have to fight the first few battles normally. You can reset your army and build up a bit before taking on Cao Cao

@@rossguo4702 Yeah I don't know if he's using the patch beta or something. Though I can't find anything that suggests any changes to Liu Chong's skill tree so I don't know :(
this is on patch 1.5.2 beta (what level does your Liu Chong start at and what patch are you on) and are you playing on romance mode?
@@SeriousTrivia Don't know about OP but I'm on that same beta and romance mode. Liu Chong starts at level 5 with Nobility unlocked and his tree wraps around the left side up to Intensity.
How do we do this without show of force? He doesn’t start with it anymore?
They patched it! But I am in the process of updating all the guides for patch 1.7 so we will see when I get to Liu Chong

Yes very uncommon. The Chinese monarchy did not support inter-marriage

are you playing on romance mode? or maybe it is a patch thing but yes I am on patch 1.5.2 and I don't remember is the 190 start for him before had him start level 5
@@SeriousTrivia Yes, my skill tree is Mobility, Stone Bulwark, Flexibility, Clarity, Dignity and Nobility. I am playing on Very Hard difficulty.
it must have been a patch change then and the modification to the strategy would be to wait till you level up before going ham like I did here because in theory, Liu Chong is pretty much unstoppable in long fights with Show of Force.

less because all shield also got 10% extra ranged block chance against you too, but you are still the beefiest crossbow unit, so you have that going for you

She would have a faction grudge against you cause you destroyed her faction since she took over after Cao Cao’s death so she is unlikely to ever join you
in my game cao cao escaped, and Bian entered the pool, so i was able to divorce her from cao cao, and marry her myself
Hi! Are there any tip for 1.7.1 patch start?
never got around to making one for Liu Chong, but I think the key is the same, level him up to get his arrow ability and then you are pretty much untouchable. Then get your economy up and start spamming your unique unit and just win from there.

Tech tree spies for turncoats and then go purple?
@@ИльяДеревянко-ъ3р I would focus on Cao Cao and take his lands. Cao Cao is just annoying with his faction abilities on the last patch. Your economy early on probably will be heavily agriculture based so food shouldn’t be a problem. Then try to shift into Liu Biao’s area to get some industry and commerce income as they are still the best combination
