Having had to travel quite often between Waterloo and Salisbury back in 2010-11, I have to say those red deco seats on the older SWR trains were the most comfortable I'd ever sat on!
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, When I worked at Woking i kept having warn the people on the platform to “stand away, this train is not in service “ . Having now retired I now look forward to riding on these smart looking 701s as a customer
Good to see them finally in service I could just about imagine the announcement "we apologise that the train approaching platform 5 is delayed by approximately four years" 😅
the 701s look amazing & i cant wait to try them out one day which will pappen once a route is fully operated by 701s to improve me chances of getting a ride on one
I have to say that the new South Western Railway Class 701 Arterio trains should have entered service back in 2021. But overall they do look really nice and hopefully these new trains will operate on other routes throughout this year.
I still have nostalgic feelings for the class 455s, but times are changing unfortunately, which is not always great. The 701s however are nice and it’s though you are travelling on long distant trains with toilets and tables, but used for suburban routes.
Aventras are by far the most disappointing new trains in the country. Their motors are almost silent and even when you can hear them, they don't sound even remotely interesting. At least the 455s have character and padded seats and are a 10/10 if you ask me.
They will be great. Journeys will be comfortable.

Good to see these Derby built trains finally in service!
Nice video, can say it definitely was worth the wait by the looks.

10 years later…
Great trains!
do you guys think BLS and SWR will do a farewell tour for the class 455s
They have one planned for early 2025
You should review ato on the subsurface lines and compare it to normal.mode
I hope the next 701 probably 702, won't have those ugly doors on the front of the vehicle, the 701s fronts are great compared to other trains
Very little leg room on the seats without tables...
I think these are ok! They look weird though
Ok-ish......don't really get the pulse racing, do they ....
Proud pre 500 views 🎉
The ride is quiet, but the motors are too quiet. Not a fan . Still look good though
The 701s Are In Service Now Finally
