Well, I guess the train does it's job and that it means 450's can fully replace the 455 on services to Reading, and 701 can do the rest, and we let the 158/159's do the Exeter and Bristol runs, SWR will become one of the best performing operators in the country.
It was great to see you and Willow on the train that day! They've clearly done a very good job on the refurbishment, and I'm sure these trains will be well-liked if/when they eventually make it to the Portsmouth Direct line - the First Class definitely could be better though!

@@PurplesTrainsUK SWR promised to displace the 450s from the PDL when they got the contract, because they were too unpopular because of their 3 + 2 seating. Initially, they used some refurbished 442s, but they ended up being too unreliable and were eventually scrapped. After that, they announced they would create these trains, the 458-4s, by removing the fifth carriage (previously from a class 460) and upping the speed to 100MPH and use them on the PDL. If I had to guess I'd say the "temporarily on suburban routes" comment comes from the fact that they can't be used on the Portsmouth Direct line until the 701s are more widely deployed on suburban routes, otherwise it would lead to a shortage of stock. With that said, there were rumours a while ago that SWR have dropped the plans to use the 458/4s on the PDL, in which case maybe they will only ever see life on the suburban lines, but I guess we'll have to wait and see on that one!

As the Class 458/4s have entered service from being converted from 5-Car and upgraded to 100mph. Since South Western Railway aren’t going to use them on the Portsmouth Direct line. Maybe these could be ideal for the Alton, Aldershot, Windsor & Eton Riverside and Reading routes.

Well. Unfortunately, these 458/4s will not do the Portsmouth fast train lines now. SWR scrapped the idea about a month ago.
You probably will have gone via Hounslow as you will have been stuck behind stopping trains via Richmond.
