2:52 - 3:15 That is some of the most powerful singing I have ever heard/seen. So much power and yet, it’s still so fucking emotional and vulnerable. Sharon Van Etten could possibly end up becoming a truly once in a lifetime talent. She is magnificent.
This is my first time listening to this song, and is already an instant classic. Is one of those songs like Maps, Everlong, 1979, All My Friends, Seasons, Ceremony etc, that I will be listening to it for years to come.
At 1:30 she squats down, peers into the audience. "I see you so uncomfortably alone." Then she raises her own hand. There's something about the vulnerability of that moment......
This is incredible. I’ve watched it multiple times a day for days now. It was already my song of 2019 and this takes it to another level. I’ll be honest I’m not an emotional man but this songs gets to me. It’s just fantastic. And from around 2:50-3:15 of this performance - goosebumps. Amazing!
Haha I was about to post a comment but you've basically summed up all I was going to say!! Loved the song as soon as I heard it but this performance just blew me away, can't stop watching it, it just takes you somewhere.
At 4:00 is me in the blue & black stripe t-shirt, in tears after experiencing that song live for the first time. her voice live is like no other irl. her cover of black boys on mopeds also had me going
I don't buy here story behind this song for a second. It's supposed to be about an ageing New York, but all i hear is the adult self talking to the child self. The child calling out the adult, the adult making excuses to the child. It breaks my heart and I love it. So powerful and meaningful and beautiful.

I was there - this was f**king amazing on every level - performance, band, sound, lighting and visuals worked with the music and not OTT. Best thing I saw all weekend. Can't believe I only found out about her a few months back when 6Music played this track.
I can’t even to speak or think volumes at what she does at the peak of her song seventeen. It’s so dam good makes me cry every time. Her vocals are so good.
This song has been haunting me all year. ..and this moving performance-with all of the power that only true vulnerability can drive, she courageously lays it bare for us all to see and to hear.
I get tears in my eyes every time she hits the emotional peak. Every time. She a hero of mine. An adult woman. Not some silly girl thrown up to the top of the pop charts by executives who don't even like music.
Goosebumps dont cover it by half.. I play it repeatedly and am tearful each time... This is stupendous.. and .. read the lyrics. The sound and its nuances are perfect, what an absloute stunner of a perfomance. I am so glad I decided to do a 'pot-pourri' of 'look-sea' on the Glastonbury iPlayer feed at the BBC. Of course.. its the fuc**** BBC, who else does this stuff... Long live music and those who bring it to us... 'Now you're a hotshot Think you're so carefree But you're just seventeen So much like me'
This song is truly amazing. I accidentally came across this song and i absolutely love it. Sharon is one of my top five. I love her style her energy and her period. I will follow her to the end of the world...
I remember watching this on the tv, it was the first time I had seen Sharon before. at 2:50 when she screamed I was hooked! Saw her play at my home town the same year she was unbelievable
Absolutely right on that score, though others in the John Peel Tent all suffered the same stupid approach to 'security'.. just looked bad in the video, her being so far off... the audience needed to be right next to the stage.. Or, as Bono did in the the 1985 rendition of 'Bad' at 'Live Aid', he got of the stage and went and hugged 2 or 3 women in the audience... what an absolute stunning set that was as well, now... I hasten to add, 34 years ago, see- ruclips.net/video/HvBgRSSlVBA/видео.html
What. a. scream. Blessed to see her 3 days later. Black Boys on Mopeds cover on piano in a small/medium venue is outstanding. Videos of her understate how strong her voice is.
Even as a 31 year old man the first time I heard this song it spoke to me. Heating it live and seeing her emotions on stage just confirms my love for her art.
Can you imagine not knowing who she was. Then you walk by the tent towards another stage and hearing her and thinking that you missed out on an amazing lifetime experience.
When she came through Chicago last time, she leaned into the crowd directly in front of my 2nd row spot to sing that part. I haven't been the same since.
Holy mother of everything that's good and pure.. I am going to a festival in a few months, I had no idea who she was, just discovered her yesterday. I was so excited about seeing some of my favorite bands at the festival.. Now I am so happy I found her and will be seeing her! She is awesome!
^^ this. was lucky enough to see her twice that year, having seen her several times since 2010. First at Cambridge gig, where we thought 'wow', she can headline stuff now, to Green Man where she owned the huge Mountain Stage. Still feel like she has that earlier SVE 'attitude' but now doesn't just 'hide' behind the guitar. And love that she still has that constant of Heather WB onstage.
I mostly love how pleased the guy at the end looks that he's just captured that whole performance on his phone rather than just enjoying the actual show.. This world is becoming so bizzare
I just found her and now I’m obsessed with this song. I love everything about her sound, lyrics, and performing this with all that emotion like it’s the first time. Imma superfan
All I can say is Holeee Smokes! What a song. Intensity was an 11. I wish more of Sharon's songs were harder like this one. This one is her crowning achievement.
this song is getting me through being 17. i found it around a week after it dropped, and i was so excited last year when it was my birthday because the song was finally speaking to me literally. i'm a little sad to be turning 18 this year, because it won't really apply to me anymore, but i don't think i will ever stop being comforted by it. i'm having a really bad night and this is the first time i've seen this; when she screamed i literally felt my soul explode (and i cried really hard lol)
This is probably the best new song I've heard released in the last 3 or 4 years. I'd never heard of her before listening to this either so I'm still discovering lots of her earlier tracks and performances for which I am extremely grateful. Being from Scotland I've grown up listening to and seeing amazingly talented female musicians like Annie Lennox, Sharleen Spiteri, KT Tunstall and Amy Macdonald. Personally the thing that sets artists like them apart is their live performances. I've yet to see Sharon van etten live but I'm confident that when I do she'll be joining my list of elite female artists.

This is one of the best live performances of a song that I've ever seen.
AGREE !

I don't like this talk, it's the best blah blah blah but from this point 3:00 on I felt it for a moment. WOW!

That is some of the most powerful singing I have ever heard/seen. So much power and yet, it’s still so fucking emotional and vulnerable. Sharon Van Etten could possibly end up becoming a truly once in a lifetime talent. She is magnificent.
makes me think of kurt Cobain!

INCREÍBLE
Would love to hear her sing Where did you sleep last night..
Channeling a little Trent Reznor there, eh
The guy with glasses, behind the girl with a hat, crying and screaming at 3:23 is my spirit animal if I'd have been there.
I'm the guy stood next to him, to the left in the glasses! he had such a good energy for the whole show :)
Sam Lunn you can’t imagine how jealous I am! I hope you both had a lot of fun there. She’s absolutely amazing :)
Sam Lunn that's great man. Looks like you were really getting into it! If I was there I would be grooving too! Lucky dude

I'm a 38 year old male who was once 17. I don't know you but your comment made me think you're a friend :)
It's not that different for a 74 year old once 17 boy.

This struck a chord... 24 years ago, I was stood in a field watching The Cure headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. I'm 41.
meh...you're a mere boy.
Last week it was my 18th Birthday. The week before I was seeing The Cure too so I guess I will feel your words in some years
Surely sharon van etten is inspired of early the Cure. She is fucking great
That "I know what you're gonna be" gave me the chills. Every time. Shes my new obsession.👏

Loved her songs and singing immediately.
Her spirit and aura just moves me intensely.....and that doesn't happen much at all.
Somebody please shout out to Heather Wood Broderick (the back vocal), she is just an incredible singer as well
The way they interact is so fucking integral to the songs...Heather's 'backing' just raises the bar, and their voices comlement each other perfectly.
