These two women are so relevant to me in different times of my life. I feel so emotional seeing them two singin together like two parts of myself are making friends.
Whoah, that´s pefectly then. I loved Sharon even more than Norah actually, but this is big. Spotify played it for me yesterday and I nearly cried my heart out.
As a former 17 year old child who now has a 17 year old child, this hits you right in the feels.
But this is not about an offspring but a reflection of herself 20 years later. Big difference.
@Andrew Murray Who cares what you think. That about sums it up, right?
@Andrew Murray It's only rhetorical if folks like you can't figure it out. It interviews, the artist clearly talks about this song representing the passage of time of her own life, not that of her offspring. But entitled folks like you need to be self affirming and make it about something it is not. Back to your basement.
@Andrew Murray I didn't. All I did was express my opinion of interpretation. It is your triggered entitled self trying to tell me what I can and cannot post. The hypocrisy and irony is amazing. Perhaps worry about policing yourself and not others. Stop using words like "only" and "particular" to justify your narrative.
@Andrew Murray I'm glad you acknowledge the error of your ways. It is always heartening when those comprehensively challenged like yourself make that breakthrough. It's like potty training a toddler..... 👍👍 for you.
The original poster is allowed her opinion. I'm allowed to counter that. You're not allowed to police either of our interpretations unless you feel you're uniquely qualified to do so, triggered Karen. Let that be a lesson to you.
I'm legitimately crying. Wonderful version of a great song performed by two brilliant artists.
Best Song of 2019.
Fr. This and Lana Del Rey's The greatest. But this one I found more relatable as I grow up.
One of the best songs of the year.
Man, when they sing the ending to each other... it goes right up the spine.
Sharon is a treasure. She is also a great actress.
She was on "The OA" on Netflix (and, she sang a song).
@@kenc2257 I am glad another OA fan recognized my comment. I weep that the show will not continue but rejoice that it is RL.
@@jeffm2586 The OA and Sensate8, inspiring and transformative. No other shows come CLOSE!!
Always more Norah Jones please
I couldn’t love this anymore. What a wonderful collaboration between these two incredibly talented artists.
this hit me where it hurts
You might be too young to appreciate this now, but come back when your 17 year old kid never talks to you and cry your eyes out.
Ya my 17 year old ain't talking to me .beautiful and sad
Never stop trying to build that bridge. There is nothing sadder than losing time you could have been together that you can't get back.
24 years later I can still vividly remember what it felt like to be 17 and not talking to my parents. It just felt like the loneliest time of my life. I wanted them to be there for me, but I didn't feel they could give me what I needed, emotionally speaking. They couldn't handle me being different from the rest of the family and didn't see the pain behind my acting out.
Please don't take this advice as a blame, just as a wish of what my parents had done (and maybe you're already doing it). Let them know regularly that you love them for who they are, that you'll always be there for them whatever and whenever they need you. Hug them if you can. Don't judge their decisions, but ask them to help you understand their choices in life, even if it isn't a choice you would've made. Don't expect them to be like you or think like you. They are their own persons who will make their own choices and mistakes. Allow them that without judgment but with a safe haven to come back to. Don't waste time like me and my parents did. We almost left it too late.
There is hope. I was 17 when I stopped talking to my mum because I couldnt deal with childhood stuff and anger at being left with an aggressive father... I made amends years later as with age I understood what she had gone through. I even wrote a book about it as a way of healing. There's always time. Reach out.
have you tried being a better parent?
I love this version. Norah is killing it!
Sharon too.
First I've heard of her, but if she can roll up to the late show with Norah friggin Jones as her backup singer she must be doing something right.
I just heard of her this summer - she's fantastic! Dig in - first song I heard was Tarifa (album version) and fell immediately. "No One is Easy to Love" is also fantastic
@@clumsiii Hope you've heard Jupiter 4!
She put out one of the best records this year. Check it for sure.
I highly recommend her album "Are We There" from 2014.
@@clumsiii After all these years I still think Tarifa is her best song. She's amazing
This is beautiful and haunting. Both singers give a great performance, I've played this so many times.
Is there a limit to how many times we can view this video? What a wonderful musical pairing. Sharon Van Etten is incredible but with Norah Jones....they soar!! Thank you!
My favorite song ever
Brings tears every time, especially this version
Two beautiful voices. Amazing. 💕
Saw her open for Bon Iver on my birthday it was such a special show😭🤧
Norah Jones is like a fine wine. Everything about her is better with age.
Unless she's been kept in an air-tight bottle away from oxygen, age will only make her shrill like vinegar.
@@camplethargic8 "shrill like vinegar"? Happily, I don't hear what you do.
@@jennifer1032 Norah Jones sounds wonderful to me. If you'l notice, my prior comment is in the future conditional tense, and is aimed at the silly "age like fine wine" cliché, rather than Ms. Jones. Amazing that I have to explain this to you.
@@camplethargic8 I appreciated the joke.
Sharon is even more beautiful inside than her amazing voice and talents show. REAL, humble, kind and genuine. MY kind of people..... Much respect my friend....
Yep the song of 2019 💜
This was excellent and a true gift
i can listen to this for days!!
This is incredible!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I used to be 17, I still am, cause it takes about a year, but yea, I love the crap out of all of you people in the world.
Didn't think I was gonna like this song - but it GOT me 30 seconds in. Powerful - Van Etten is one to watch...
The first I heard it I didn´t get it, like there was something wrong, because I loved Sharon´s versions so much. But the 2nd time it had me, especially by seeing this video now. WOW!
This is talent.
Geezers.... holy schmoly this couldn't be anymore perfect
Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing
Simply wonderful!!! 💜💛💙
What an amazingly soulful performance by both ladies.
Absolutely beautiful...
I highly recommend Sharon Van Etten's album "Are We There" from 2014.
Two incredible voices. Such personality.
This is truly beautiful.
This is no doubt one of the most beautiful and moving songs I've heard lately. And Norah Jones is a legend, and ages like a fine wine. But...(bear with me)...check out Sharon Van Etten NPR Tiny Desk, and her version she plays at about 8:20 of that 3-song set. These two voices are angelic, but especially when they hit that powerful "I know what you're gonna be!", do not have the same passion that Sharon alone does near the end of that NPR live version. In addition, the band she'd been touring with for over a year, whom she introduced in the NPR set, seemed to also take this song to another level. Again, great performance. But having seen the earlier, I think a record exec thought by putting a little color on the apple it would look and taste more appealing. And indie music is felt by those who wrote it, and perform it live, together, more than when polished for the masses. Just my two cents.
I agree with you :) it's just - when she sings it alone, these words somehow have more strenght..
Olha Chytaylo totally agree. It’s her emotion - raw, painful, and pleading - and is more powerful as just hers.
@@jasonmiradoli8900 yep! sometimes trying to adjust to each other voices etc. leads to losing something more.
Soothing 2 The Soul! Beautiful!
Absolutley Awesome Stuff!...ThankU!!!
Awesome! Nice job saving one of the show’s best performances of year for the last show!
So good! Yay!
one of the best albums of the year! Amazing song
Beautiful.
Wow, great remix of this song. I LOVE the studio version and her other live performances where she really rocks out but this is beautifully done ❤️
Looking at this amidst the pandemic, with Stephen at home for months now. This looks all so alien.
Love it
So great ! Also kudos to the bass player keeping it moving 👌
God I love this song so much!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Parents with HS students understand. 💜💜💜
Actually kind of like this version more than the LP one...
Sublime y mágicas voces
This is the best rendition of this song, and the others are quite good.
Seventeen is one awesome song

Would love to see this as a single on Bandcamp. Need to hear it in lossless!
Is there anything else to say to ourselves? That was our youth. This is our lives.
HOLY SHIT HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THIS
two jewels from US that aren't appreciated like they deserve. Super good and gold, but very underrated. It is not bad when those musicians are pearls thar the pigs will never wear.
🖤
One and only Norah Jones ! She is Awesome forever .
Wow, This version is as amazing as the original!
🙌🏼❤🙏🏼
Wow.
When I was 17, I drank some very good beer.
jessec103 yep, me too! Was an import beer expert by 21, lol!!!
Is that you, Brian McGee?!?
jessec103 who is Brian McGee?
when I was 21, I also drank some very good beer, it was very good beer for city girls who lived up the stair
Tabby Smithfield it’s a simpsons reference. TheOxx got it haha
Patti Smith and now Sharon Van Etten, the two Queens of Jersey.
I was there!
Gorgeous
Wow come to Ireland 👍🇮🇪🤘
❤️
vamos las pibas♥
anybody know if there is a studio version of this song? I found the original, but to be honest I dont dig it as much as this one. this is amazing
The one from Glastonbury on here is fantastic. Check it out 👍
Просто восхитительно, проникновенно. Norah Jones украсила эту композицию бархатный вакалом и особым шармом. Добрая меланхолия по ушедшим дням
Norah sings like the way my life turned out
This is some good shit!
😍🎶😍🎶😍😍😍😍😍
If i could tell 17 yearold me how much I would grow. Wrote a book and all about what I was going through long before I hit 17.
Wow
If there was a List of "Top Twenty Unexpected Music Pleasures" this would be on it Twice.
😍👍🏻×100
That 200a sounds fantastic
Stephen and having real artists on his show. Name a better duo.
norah & mavis
Simon and Garfunkel
Not saying they are better but phoebe bridgers and Conor Oberst
Trump and Pence? HELL NO! #BERNIE2020
Hall and Oats... Lindsey and Stevie... Reina and Toni... The Other Favourites... Ok, not necessarily better at at least as good.
Nice!!! Love seeing people still playing real instruments, it’s practically becoming a lost art.
Damn Sharon what a beauty divine
Powerhouse women ❤️
When i was seventeen I had my very first beer music 🎶
Homer J Simpson.
