Definitely informative and helpful.. but it doesn't change anything about what I am going to do if I'm going for 18 series, which I am. Does wash out mean quit? Does it mean getting injured and put in med hold? I get the feeling even if I choose backup jobs, and washed out, they are sti going to put me wherever they want unless my backup jobs are where they already need people.
Wash out typically means you didn't make it for some reason. For me it was getting dropped during land nav. It really depends on what's going on when you get dropped (if you get dropped). Some guys stay 11B some guys get reclassed. In my experience no one got anything on there wish list it was all just whatever the army needed at that time.
If that's what you want to do. Make sure you get airborne in your contract if that's what you want though, it's practically impossible to get it in the regular army unless you get lucky. Recruiters will always pressure you to make fast decisions but if they don't have what you want just wait until they do.
That may just be a national guard thing. I wish regular army would do that though. Everyone got a wish list after we failed SFAS but no one ever got anything they asked for.

so i am currently going through the recruiting process my initial idea was to sign a 4 year contract as 11X (and hopefully get 11B of course) and go from there but my main goal was to make a career out of the army and go for special forces either after my first contract was up or after my first deployment if possible does anyone see this as a viable option would i be aloud to do this?? is my recruiter lieing to me about this being a possible avenue?
Try to get the option 40 while in basic. Usually there is a transfer from 18x in RASP that did not make it through SF selection. You can ask them questions about SF selection while going through RASP. If you are able to be a Ranger you will get somewhat of an idea what it takes for SF.

Google “US Naval Sea Cadet Corps”- program that will allow you to attend summer and winter trainings and give you the basics of the military- you can do to special operations trainings, some of which are taught by green berets.
And if you can't do a Naval Sea Cadet Corps I'd say just be active, maybe do sports. Learn how to push yourself. But most importantly figure out why you wanna be a Green Beret.

It isn't automatic, just very likely. If your plan is SF I would be hesitant in just joining as an 11x as 11b or 11c (you don't choose the army does) may not be what you are wanting. But technically yes, you could put in a SFAS packet after joining.
Jonathan Shelton I’m hesitant to sign up as an 18X because of the possibility of ending up with an open contract if I washed out (I wouldn’t voluntarily, but if I got injured or something). They might recycle you, but it isn’t really a gamble I’m sure about taking.

If I were you I would just do lots of yoga and stretching to try to heal your body as best you can then rely on the army to get you in shape when the time comes
Buy the book “stretch to win”. Best book on the market on stretching and how to stretch for injuries and injury prevention. Ruck a lot, run a lot, and if your banged up, bike or go on the elliptical for non impact cardio.

Joey VazkZ if you’re truly going 18 X-ray route then just prepare your self for the physical requirements to get you the contract don’t overthink expecting it only makes it worse I heard also from as you battle everyday and don’t quick and pull your own weight you’ll be fine if your worried about sleep then maybe a choose a different mos sleep is your last concern

18x is probably the biggest bullshit contracts out there. Recruiters know it, but they stay spoon feeding it to kids who don't understand it. SFAS is full current service members. That means Ranger Regiment guys, Airborne guys, 10th mountain guys, and soldiers from all around. AND THEY'RE ALL COMPETING WITH A 65 PERCENT ATTRITION RATE. These are experienced soldiers who know their shit and have combat deployments. These kids coming in off the streets don't stand a chance. The recruiters will literally give it to anyone. Why should they care? their numbers are getting boosted. Big army LOVES this contract because it keeps all of the shit jobs full of the guys who flunk the course. You might even make it through the entire course just to be a 21 day non-select. They'll tell you something like "come back when you have more experience" "or come back when you mature a bit more" or if you failed the psychological evaluation/background checks you'll get dropped with a do not return. boom dream dead and now you've traded 5 years of your life to make minimum wage as an airborne cook. this ain't the contract you want. If you wanna go sf pick up an 11x contract with airborne and volunteer for rasp in osut. Then if you feel like you wanna go further put in a selection packet once you're in. with that method you've just killed the possibility of being an airborne boiler mechanic or some shit.

@@a.j2368 yes, exactly. i competed a 5 year contract as 11b as i wasn't a citizen - once i passed the exam with the civilians (uncle sam likes telling lies [that i would gain citizenship within 4 months] it sucked me in) once in the army & assigned to a unit/post you can drop a packet. if you wash out, then you'll be reassigned to your old unit rather than as the needs of the army.
