Valino Pergea 08R front tire intro / why are front tires important for drifting?

  • Here is an intro into why you need a decent set of tires for fronts whilst drifting. Valino was kind enough to send me a set of these Pergea 08Rs to test as fronts (as they are a bit out of the budget for cheap drift tires for rears). Luckily front tires should last a lot longer than rears, so I will be counting the laps I have on them throughout this season. So far I have 2 full tire tests of around 26 laps, and a demo I did where I pulled about 20 laps.
    Why are front tires so important? I go over some of the details in the video.
    Last season, I had to change fronts about half way though, so hopefully with the new increased tread depth these will last longer!

    Really awesome to see someone knowledgeable talking about front tires on a drift car. This gets overlooked so often and there's a lot of misinformation out there on this subject.

      Thanks man! It's one of the many things I see running events out here. Dudes with bald front tires under steering off the track.

    It's crazy to think informational videos like these get the least amount of views vs. non-sense show-off stuff. Regardless, I'm not sure why I didn't come across these earlier! THANK YOU FOR THIS.

      I guess people would rather watch dudes talk about what they had for breakfast, or how much money they spent on the car they are going to ruin lol. But thanks man, means a lot

      @@Officer_Dan yeah brother I’m trying to learn as much as possible when it comes to real life drifting. And unfortunately most of tires you tested aren’t available in Canada and if they are they aren’t cheap 😂

    Would like to see how these 08R’s perform as rear tires with the deeper tread

      One day I'll test expensive rear tires, but for now I want to test the valino gredge, it's got the same tread depth but costs me way less.

    Hey Dan, hows the performance after a year of this tyres? I’m using 07rs over the last year, but now need to change it coz bulges in tyre.

      They lasted the whole season, around 8 events, and had just started to cord on the inside edge because of my camber / toe combo. solid grip all season though!

    I suggest trying the Accelera 651 Sport

      @@Officer_Dan I mean I've seen one of the drifters in the French championship run them all round. But probably better on Front.

    Do you think a 140 threadwear tire such as the zestino gredge 07rs is too grippy for the fronts of a z?

    • @Officer_Dan
      @Officer_Dan  4 года назад

      It depends on driving style really. If you have a super gripped up rear end, you will need grippy front tires as to not allow the front to be over gripped. If you like doing backies and having a looser car then less grippy fronts are key.

      Dan Brockett i have the acrovas and kendas as of now for rears. I guess it cant hurt to try the 140 tw upfront. If too much grip... pumping up tire pressure should help right?

    • @Officer_Dan
      @Officer_Dan  4 года назад +1

      @@flaviospinola96 it helps, but fronts tend to wear more if pumped too high or set too low. Reccomended is best for sure. I ran the tires you are talking about as fronts and they were great on my z

      32ish. Or as close to factory specs as I can get
