I'm a bit confused here as your Fluke meter dial in the video is set to to read mV (voltage) NOT current readings.... not to mention, your clamp-on should have probably been attached to the COM and the A with your meter dial set to read DC amps or am I completely missing something here??
David McGillis the clamp meter measures amps, then outputs mV for the meter to display. If I wanted to measure amps directly with the fluke the power would have to flow through it, and it can only do 10 amps.
Touareg V10 only uses the back battery to start the car. The rest of the time the battery at the back is not used. The one under the seat is used to electrify every other component on the car.
Nice tutorial! I am currently struggeling with battery drained after a few days from being fully charged. Will do an equivalent test to my car. Thanks!
@@spoon761 Hello Sir, i have the same problem with empty battery v10 tdi. how did you solve the problem ? what was the cause? would be grateful for any answer. Greetings from Wolfsburg Germany
yea dude mine is the same exactly, but i will also add that the car draws 50amps when running and 150 amps when the glow plugs are on (so glow plug current is 100 amps)
I've changed 1 0r 2 batteries every two years on my 2004 v10. I love my ride but . I've gotten 150000 on the clock and I'm going to train it in its just too expensive.
you have no clue what you are measuring... you multimeter in mV (milli) Volt settings, you are talking about amps and you are measuring something between post, instead of inline...
I was using an Amprobe amp clamp, which outputs the reading as milivolts. I have the fluke set on the mV range so it doesn't autorange. So yes, I know how to use a DC clamp meter. If you have a suggestion on how to pass several hundred amps through the 10a fuse in the fluke I'm all ears.

The rear battery is also used to run the glow plugs - both before and after starting the engine.

What kind of car? I'm going through this with our 99.5 Jetta right now, I plan to make a video as I go through the car.
+compu85 It is the same as in the video. 2004 V10. I also think the keyless system is draining amps at standby...
That's a common problem. Our keyless quit working. I ordered replacement FETs and resistors to rebuild the KESSY module. Another upcoming video...

The Main Battery is under the drivers Seat. Touareg has 2. if one battery fails Turn the key left and it starts With the Second one in the Trunk
Only on the V10. And the turn the key to the left trick never worked for me.
Have you tried the emergency mode? You can activate it by turning the car key to the left side in stead of the right side...
I've never had that work.
I'm going to put a 2nd battery on my Cayenne and need to figure the installation
You can get the battery tray from the VW or Porsche parts counter.
Now that's a much awaited video, ! Tanks a lot for uploading it ! 💪
Btw , do you still have the Touareg ?
Thanks! I sold it to a friend in California earlier this year. He's a VW master tech, and is going to replace the flat camshafts.
Great video! You sold it to Matt... So bummed he moved. He kept my 2008 V10 running nicely when he was in CA.
Wait!
You have paddle shifters here in the states??
+paulyshore98 The original owner fitted them :)
+compu85 I saw those too and wondered the same thing. Nice! Where were they sourced from?
+Nate Persing I'd have to ask the PO. I'm thinking he got them from www.tm-techmark.com/tri.htm along with the starter button.
+compu85 nice job. I didn't know that site existed and now I want one worse than ever.
+linkchrono1955 None were in the US. I don't know what they did in other markets.

again I love this suv .... but cost just isn't worth havin it
