  • We pull the 2006 Touareg out of the shop and bring in our 2004 Touareg V10 TDI. First we hook up the scanner to check codes and verify / test the crankshaft position sensor. We also are able to confirm we can communicate with both ECM's. We then proceed to drop the engine from the car for the engine swap.

Thanks for the V10 content, I will need to do this soon. I have leaky seals that need to be replaced along with everything else you should do while you have the engine out.

Definitely a good time to address as many issues when the engine is out. Much easier to work on.

Hey, awesome work! Thanks for putting up the only video showing the removal in some detail. I've got to do this job in the next few weeks for an engine transplant. Do you know what the distance between the engine mounts are on these? (L to R without the subframe). Cheers

Thanks for the comment. If you have any questions on your project let me know. I’ll try to be more detailed when I put it back together. I measured 25-1/2 inches on center for the engine mount bolts. Good luck!

@@mountainviewsgarage thanks for getting that for me. Seems like it'll be a tight fit in the GQ patrol, but could be possible!

I’m currently fighting to remove the cats with the engine in on my V10 Touareg, have everything unbolted, even turbo flange. Do you recall how to remove catalytic converter brackets? Either from engine or from the cats themselves?

@@benjaminkondrla2006 each cat has 2 bolts holding the bracket to the engine. Maybe you didn't see the second one?

@@ridiculousthings4x4 do they happen to come out in the same direction? It’s an engine in job, I was looking at pictures of the cats and it’s seeming as if the bolts come out in the same direction
