How deep his grandmothers love was to fight through the haze of dementia to try to save her grandson. That’s so beautiful and so heartbreaking at the same time!
Right she never forgot him, she also was being kept captive by Janey and due to her having Dementia she could not get anyone to take her seriously. It’s really sad to think about
It's amazing that Rosa's brain was able to recognize the seriousness of the situation through dementia. She tried to tell people, she tried to get the boy help. She had just enough information to share, but not enough to convince anyone to investigate.
My dad has dementia. If he kept saying someone missing was in a certain room, I'd open the door to show him. It's better for his mind. If someone had done that with Rosa, this situation would have ended sooner. Poor Rudy, and poor Rosa.
That's what I was thinking as well, doctors advise loved ones and caretakers to work with the delusions to reassure them that their worries are being taken care of rather than try to convince them they're not real. Dementia isn't curable so it's useless to try to correct them, you can only appease them and reduce stress. The fact she never once opened the door to show her mom what was in it... That would have been my first suggestion if I was a grandchild present.
That's exactly what I was thinking!! I've never been close to someone with dementia. I was wondering if showing her the empty room would have helped her. If one of her other kids/grandkids tried to show her, that awful woman's bs would have ended years earlier.
The fact a “mother” could do that to her child is horrendous. And the police not even trying to press any charges on her is disgusting. My heart breaks for Rudy 💔
I think the reason that the police are avoiding charging her with anything right now is because they are still investigating so that when they do charge her, they'll have enough solid evidence to be able to charge her and make it stick. Right now, there is a ton of circumstantial evidence and even Rudy himself isn't quite sure of what happened during those 8 years. The most that they'd really be able to charge her with is obstruction of justice or interfering with an investigation. This case has the potential to be child abuse, 8 years of false imprisonment, and sexual abuse. They're going to want to charge her with that, not something relatively petty like obstruction of justice. That being said, the police department had better be using their time wisely and investigating the absolute shit out of this case, not just sitting on their asses and giving this monster of a woman more time to be free. And Rudy is still in a position that he's not able to comprehend what happened to him. He is not mentally able to claim that he wasn't sexually abused, because he doesn't know what he doesn't know. All he knows is what his mother did to him, and it's up to a psychologist to determine if those actions are evidence of sexual abuse or not. We can't trust Rudy when he says "I wasn't sexually abused" because in his mind, being forced to sleep naked in bed with his mother and touch her isn't that bad, since he has no frame of reference for what unacceptable behavior is.
She's like a much less horrendous Blache Monnier's mom. I say "less horrendous" since Jamey allowed Rudy to walk about and even trusted to buy stuff for eight years. Blanche was kept locked up. In the attic dor nearly three decades by her mom and brother just because she wanted to wed someone they didn't like. I don't even want to think Rudy's mom would keep him confined for two and a half decades. There was also that repugnant "dad" that kept his daughter locked up in a Bunker along with some of his children/grandchildren.
I am not lawyer but I what she did was awful but I dont see how to charge her succefully. False report? I think it might have aged charge. Sometimes being toxic as heck is not criminal.
Again I'm appalled by how messed up the American justice system is. In Brazil "false communication of a crime", reporting something to the police, that mobilize the police to investigate the case KOWING that what you are alleging is false is a CRIME. There is also "cárcere privado" (forced confinement) which is clearly the case. The American justice system wait to have a CORPSE on their hands to do anything.
The thing is, the activist was 100% correct about the sexual abuse. She was committing emotional incest at several points in the story. Her disregard for his boundaries, her telling him he had to be a husband to her, the shower stuff, etc--those are all forms of sexual abuse.
Also, when she said 'if you tell the truth I'll x myself' makes me think there really is more to the story and he's never told his truth fully..

Absolutely. I experienced some of this as a kid, and I definitely felt very low and dirty, not being allowed to be the boss of my own body. And I m still having issues in adulthood bc of that. Thank god for this activist🙏❤
Rudy sounds so mature and sweet throughout his whole life and even now after 8 years captive and emotionally and probably sexually abused from his own mother all he wants is to spread positivity!! Such a sweet soul i hope he recovers well :( he deserves so much better
But he wasn't help captive physically... he went shopping with the mom, mowed the lawn. The neighbors all new him.... theres something insanely off about this case... I think at first Rudy and the mom were both In on it. He prob ran away for a day, she reported missing, Saw all the attention and charity she'd get and they milked it.... but like most teens he wanted freedom eventually and decided to throw momma under the bus
@@nomdeplume2213being held captive does not mean confined in a room, just against their will. just because he was allowed to ACCOMPANY her does not mean he was not able to leave this incredibly abusive and horrible situation. this is coming from personal experience, i was kidnapped by my ex-boyfriend (i was a freshman in high school, he was 19) and i was still able to go to school, work, etc. that didn’t mean i was not being held captive. stop trying to take the stories of victims and twist them into some conspiracy theory, not everything is some big brain master plan to get fame or money. abusive situations, especially with family and close loves ones are extremely complicated and can often appear to be “normal” or like they came out of nowhere. you don’t know what was happening, you were not there. victim blaming and twisting someone’s story sheds doubt on ALL victims.
What? What about CHILD ABUSE? What about endangering a MINOR, with DRUGS? This is disgusting!!! The police are worried about looking like fools. She should be in a Mental Hospital, if not BEHIND BARS!!! I can’t believe this. This story is so infuriating to me.
Also, all of these things are crimes to do to adults too!! So the fact that they are saying he was 17 and older, shouldn't matter in the slightest. I'm not allowed to just brainwash someone and make them work for me, make them pretend to be my husband, and then literally force them into a room when anyone stops by. That is holding someone prisoner. Even when you give them "rec time" 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ It's the same argument Andrew Tate used with many of those women... they weren't physically chained, so he did no wrong. 🙄 Why are people still not recognizing emotional and mental control? Particularly when the person has the ability to groom their victim before hand. Physical isn't the only form of control. All of the police departments involved need to wake up and right some wrongs from many years ago. No wonder Rudy is downplaying things now... his mother was literally heard saying she would KHS if he told the truth. Black mail? Isn't that a crime as well?!?!? Threatening, intimidating..? I'm just SO baffled this person is free after what she did. 🤦♀️ Sickening!
Exactly!!!! I live in Houston and honestly this scares me. How can they not charge her w anything?!?! She got him high, abused him, and lied to police. I’ve heard we are understaffed in Houston but this is so infuriating.
I strongly agree. When I was 11 my Mum met a single man who became infatuated with her. He owned a house in the country, was clean, didn’t drink or smoke or do drugs. My Mum had just been cruelly dumped in the worst way. My dad had lied to her to convince her to sell our house in the city where all our extended family lived and she had superiority in her career to move across the country. The day we arrived there he left her with two young children. She tried to cope but ultimately left in humiliation moved back in with her parents and us. My brother was large for his age of 12 & we both didn’t understand why our world had been turned upside down. But now we’re here, she met him and now she’s not crying everyday. I was so happy for us. It was many years later I learned he’d instantly begun grooming me. First he got rid of my brother. Then a minor competition began with his pals for who would get to have me “first”. I went along with it, even tho I didn’t understand, I treated it as “another chore” like feeding the chickens & washing dishes. Later when I tried saying no he told me it was illegal and if I told I’d be put in jail for “incest”. We didn’t have internet back then in 1970’s. By now I was 13 & as a parental figure, I had no reason to not believe him & no grounds to refuse him. That’s how easy it is to manipulate children when they’re at a vulnerable stage in their life. That’s why it’s a serious & heinous crime even when it’s not violent! People like this are a danger to society because they can easily replace one child with a new one. To them, children are just replaceable, disposable toys. 😢
How the hell did she not get charged with anything like she drugged? A minor held them against their will, which is wrongful imprisonment, sexually abused him for years, and still no crime was committed
As a child who was abducted for 6 months, and whose Mom went ballistic and crazy looking for me, this woman deserves NO sympathy whatsoever. What was “just for attention” for her, was my mom’s worst nightmare.
i’m so sorry that happened to you and i’m so happy that your were reunited 🫶 i totally agree, the total disregard for the seriousness of such a situation is disgusting and she should be put in prison
@@pannasingh3935 Sorry took awhile! It’s a whole story but the gist of it is that my father abducted me out of spite due to my mother filing for annulment after he abused her physically and cheated on her which resulted in him getting another woman pregnant. According to his sister who abused me while I was in a house with her and my father, he only did that bc he “loved” me and was “scared” to lose me but I doubt that.
Can y’all imagine how defeated Rudy must have felt to have finally gotten away from his mother, thinking some one is going to help him only to be sent right back home with her. There is a plethora of charges they could hit Janie with!
Ikr like she is clearly misusing her place ‘mother’. She is a abusive mother nd mentally harmed him so much..how has she not lost the custody of him yet..
Not that he had much reason to anyway, but he honestly probably can’t believe the police are not cooperating with his mother given all this. I mean…..they kind of are.
I did not even read the story. It's a good thing I read the comments first! The police officers should be fired and the no good mother sent to psychiatric ward!
How could a mother do this to her own child? Such a sick and twisted case :(( i feel so bad for the grandma that kept trying to warn everyone but no one took her seriously because of dementia
Not every woman who has a child can be called a mother mine literally sold me for $2500 to a family friend simply because she needed money to "live her own life" I cried for Rudy because he was harmed by the person who is supposed to be your biggest protector... He will forever have issues trusting people.. I wish him a happy life
My aunt had dementia and as crazy as some of the things she would say were, I ALWAYS double checked. Like she kept talking about one book, a book that I couldn’t find on her bookshelf. Or in any other places she had her books. My aunt was a HUGE reader, in multiple languages too, so books were just about everywhere. Well after she passed away, she had no kids, so my dad(it was his sister) and I cleaned out her apartment. And wouldn’t you know I found a book u set her mattress and in it was a note to my dad. She must’ve written it in a moment of clarity because it sounded like her old self. So we started looking around at other weird things she would say, like a music box she would always hum the tune, there was a small note taped to the bottom that just said “I don’t want to forget you tomorrow” w a date & initials. She wrote it the day before my birthday. There were a lot of other things too So even though they have dementia & say things that make no sense to us.. I’ve learned from my aunt that sometimes those weird outta pocket words do in fact mean something.
That’s very sweet, I’m sure she must’ve hidden those notes in hopes you’d piece together her words and eventually find them even if she was mentally deteriorating, even if she passes on. Kinda like a little piece of her heart in each note whenever she “got a hold” of herself.
SA, kidnapping, filing false police reports, drugging him, false imprisonment. That’s just the few things that I can think of off the top of my head that she should be able to be charged with. It doesn’t matter that she is his mother, or that he was an adult for the majority of that time. He was still forced to stay there and hidden away, and that’s kidnapping.
I think the issue may also be that those things are pretty hard to proof in court without actual hard evidence. It's sad, but I don't think she'll get arrested for these things unfortunately 😢
@@FunkyNaomii witness testimony plus the filing of police reports when they have eye witness testimony, it’s hard to not be able to put her in prison. Honestly feels more like the police not wanting to do their jobs.
Yeah, false imprisonment is a big one. Like, not in comparison to the other crimes, but it's something she could easily get charged with. I read somewhere *(it was another youtube comments section, so take it with a grain of salt-- but knowing the American legal system and constitution, I think it checks out and makes sense)* that false imprisonment is any form of holding someone against their will (even just purposely blocking someone from exiting a store could be considered false imprisonment). Keeping someone locked away against their will for 8 years DEFINITELY counts as false imprisonment, no doubt about it. And if somehow they can't even manage to get THAT charged, as you mentioned: filing false police reports. Which is also obstruction of justice. Which *(according to a quick google search-- again, feel free to fact check me)* is punishable by an average of 5 years in prison (which is nowhere NEAR what someone who did all that would deserve-- life without parole is the only fair trade here). It's a joke sentence when you weigh in her other obvious crimes, but it's better than nothing at this point. I mean, I personally think she should be charged specifically for _holding a child hostage_ for 8 years but you know, might just be me 🤷♀. I haven't finished the video yet, but seeing as Rudy's over 18 by now I hope he got/can get some kind of restraining order or protection against her at the very least. Again, it's a complete joke that she's able to roam free in the first place, but I pray he can just get away from her and at least live the rest of his life out in safety and find peace someday.
not to mention he was a minor when this started. honestly, i'm surprised there weren't social workers removing her mother from the home considering the unsanitary conditions (animal urine and feces all throughout the home), and i'm absolutely shocked she won custody if the environment she was providing was that horrible
Some of those things can't be proved, unfortunately. Like the SA. Where's the proof? Kidnapping, well in the eyes of the law..did she really kidnap him though? He was already living with her. Drugging him, again, where's the proof? However, the false reports..one would think that's enough evidence to charge her with that. Also, HELLO...THE ABUSE...ALLLLL THE CHILD ABUSE THIS POOR BOY ENDURED AND FOR EIGHT YRS!!!😢 Unless bcuz of where they live and how the laws are there..idk if there's a certain amount of time one would have to report it, and or bcuz he's now considered an adult
They can’t do that because technically he did run away for that one day, which he admitted to. So she reported him missing while he was actually missing, she just never told them he came back on his own. And I don’t think it’s against the law to not tell anyone you found your missing person. Maybe obstruction for making making false statements to the police afterwards? But I’ve always thought obstruction would require a crime or the investigation of a crime and being missing is not a crime, especially when foul play was never assumed. Idk, I’m not a lawyer.
So much death around this woman. They need to relook at the accident the brother had, the dad, and not sure if the grandma is still alive. She was bold AF.
As a Mexican woman born and raised, the way Stephanie explained the differences with the Spanish language was so well done I am very happy with the way she said it. It’s as if she’s Mexican herself, she completely understood
OMG same! As a Mexican I felt exactly the same way. She literally sounded like one of us the way she explained it so perfectly haha. I love when other cultures show appreciation and respect for ours
I am older with a disability and vulnerability and failure to consent to sexual activity and failure to protect myself and keep myself safe. I do this with language
I had a similar upbringing. Realistically, he's fucked for life. People learn what "love" is supposed to look like from their parents, and kids who are abused as a child are naturally attracted to abusive relationships. His triple life sentence started when he was born. He will never be able to love anyone normal, nor will he ever feel loved unless he is being abused to the point of wanting to kill himself. His mother will never let go of her death grasp on him as long as she breathes.
@@Suicide_Kid the cycle can be broken. My upbringing made me feel this way about love and I’m just now realizing after being in many abusive or toxic relationships that I just need to be on my own and take care of myself. I’m sure it’ll always be a struggle but it gets easier everyday.
What makes me more sad than anything, is that there will come a time when he realizes that he was sexually abused. I know because I denied my own SA for years, and once it finally set in that, oh, that wasn’t just me being dramatic, I relived the experiences all over again with another layer of trauma and shame that was never there before. You don’t consciously deny it to yourself, you genuinely feel like you were at fault or you’re just being dramatic, but subconsciously you know. Someday that subconscious feeling will win and that day is hell. His “mother” needs to rot in jail. She cannot walk free. He suffered 8 years of abuse in many forms, and is absolutely suffering immensely from the trauma now. I hope her knows that he is loved and everyone believes him. That woman does not deserve the title of Mom.
Repressed memories and the huge gaps in memory from childhood are both things I struggle with as a fellow victim of CSA. It took a lot of work just to where I could say what I just said without panic, flashbacks, involuntary regression, etc. Talking about it makes it hurt far worse, at least temporarily, but it was the only thing that eventually made it start to heal. I hate that my abusers all deny the truth; the axe forgets , but the tree remembers.i hope you find all the things you need to heal from your trauma.
What about the money she got from the public? the girl that pretended to be kidnapped was charged a lot for that. Rudy's mom basically did the same thing but worse to her son and not herself. I don't understand how there is absolutely no charges against her. It is horrible!..Thank you for telling the story, it must have been frustrating while researching it
@@101falcon That is what I was thinking and he was just found, the incident just ended so the false imprisonment/Kidnapping just ended and I do believe she received money not that long ago
How coincidental that Charles, who was not close to Janie at all and was Rudy's father figure & best friend that he looked up to and wanted to spend all his time with (thus having much of Rudy's time and attention) died of a local motorcycle accident.... and Rudy's uncle, who said he had information, also died of a local motorcycle accident... 🪬🔎🧑⚖️
I think Rudy’s Facebook posts could have been written by his mother. This would make sense considering how active online and attention seeking the mother is, and how mature the posts sounded. His family described his mental age as being near 10 years old which really doesn’t correspond well. Also, when you read the mothers Facebook posts they sounded very similar to Rudy’s in terms of structure and voice
Hey Stephanie, can you research the case of Debora Mihaylova, she is 18 from Bulgaria, and she is recovering from something horrendous. Her alleged boyfriend broke her nose, beat her up, shaved her head and made so many cuts on her body, she had to get 400 stitches. This is a recent case in my country, Bulgaria. A lot of people started protesting but nothing is happening, in fact a few women were killed because of domestic violence and abuse. A 45 year old woman was killed by her husband and his neighbour, because the husband was jealous of the same neighbour that helped him kill his wife. This took place just a week after the Debora incident. There is another dead woman. I heard about it today. Domestic violence, she was held captive for 12 years by her husband. I'm not that knowledgeable on that. P. S. About the Debora case. The boyfriend is free right now. Because the prosecutor said what he did to Debora is a "minor injury". I repeat, she had to get 400 stitches all over her body
My friend's been to Bulgaria. He got beaten up by some drunk brits (mind you, he's fucking blind, they went up and assaulted a disabled person) and when he wanted to press charges the police didn't take him seriously. I've heard that they're not doing anything unless you're english or wealthy or smth and your post makes me more and more convinced that its absolutely true Fucking disgusting
I am currently in Bulgaria visiting my family and this case is so heartbreaking. Deboras case deserves more coverage and justice. If you see this Stephanie, please research and cover this case. The word needs to be spread
The police failed with justice for Rudy, I hope he recovers and gets all the help, care and love from the 8 years he had lost. Thank you for showing awareness for this case Stephanie.
She should be charged with mental abuse, elderly neglect & hostage charges. If I was a family member I would press charges My heart goes out to the son & the rest of the family that suffered also.
According to Rudy, she manipulated him psychologically but did not forcibly confine him. It seems she committed several other crimes, though, including child abuse, filing a false police report, and defrauding people who donated money to help find Rudy.
@@positivevibesveda the son was NOT falsely imprisoned. False imprisonment is being imprisoned for something u never did, the mother just straight up locked him up
@@beckyg5952Incorrect. From wikipedia: "False imprisonment or unlawful imprisonment occurs when a person intentionally restricts another person's movement within any area without legal authority, justification, or the restrained person's permission."
Steph, you did amazing explaining “Chicano” Spanish (Spanglish). As a first born Mexican-American from Texas, raised to speak spanish but still not on par with native speakers from Mexico, I was heavily impressed by not only how you explained the change in grammar and construct of sentences, but also in touching on how our spanish is viewed by native Mexicans raised in Mexico (typically by family members). This change in language is definitely something that’s a part of us culturally. Once again, impressed by your extensive research 💯
That he specified that there was no "intercourse" just sends chills up my spine and makes me think there was definitely sexual abuse beyond what was described. Obviously if he's denying that one thing, what else happened that he didn't or couldn't tell?
@@nonenone9892 there doesn't need to be intercourse for sexual abuse the stuff with the shower is sexual abuse and the husband thing with bed etc. is emotional incest he is either denying sa because he is so traumatized or honestly doesn't realize he has been sexually abused.
This is for the unhinged police and justice: "Because of this...Anyone/parents can do the same to their child if they want too." - and that is so ridiculous!
Her own child. How could she do that to her own son? He didn't deserve that, nobody deserves that. And the fact that no charges were pressed was disgusting.
@@graceg3250She sounds like she has Munchhausen by proxy and was probably already showing signs of that before they died. Also, it wasn’t her husband who died-it was her ex, his dad. 30:05
If he was a tiny child and they found that out, she'd be in prison. There is no reason to protect her that way. She needs to be charged no matter the sex or age
Exactly! And while I usually hate the "what if the sexes were reversed?" argument, I can't help thinking what outrage there would be if a single father had done exactly what she did with a 17 yr old daughter... could the police just shrug and get away with ignoring it? Why on earth, when there are so many serious charges she should be facing, did they not only not charge her, but sent her victim back home with her?? Clearly the poor boy needs serious psychological help to even begin to untangle what she's done to him - they even have the recording of her emotionally manipulating him that she could self-exit if he told the truth!! But no, they just send this clearly abused and falsely imprisoned victim back to his abuser. It's sick, I'm sickened that this could happen in the US of all places! Where are the DV and minor abuse advocates? She basically human trafficked her own child, keeping him from living his own life, forcing him to work, almost certainly SA, even if they can't prove those SA charges YET, there is still the false imprisonment, mental torture, fraud, obstruction and filing false police reports.... I hope Rudy finds the right support, sues the pants off the Houston PD and justice system, and gets to create his own life, and finally gets justice for the horrendous things done to him!!
I’m from Houston and the justice system here is so fucked that the police are just doing what they can to keep as good of an image as they can . We have so many injustices everyday.
You have done amazing clarifying Reynosa and our “Tex-Mex” language..thank you for taking the time to understand and explaining “Chicano” Spanish….just to be clear, I speak fluent Spanish and also speak “Chicano” Spanish and everything you’ve explained is spot on! I just want to say thank you to Stephanie for speaking so elegantly and carefully about concepts very specific to Mexican immigrants in Texas and discrimination between Mexicans and these immigrants. As a person from this community, I think you did a fantastic job explaining the griefs and concerns from both of these communities. It’s very unfortunate this news is how Reynosa is receiving attention, but thank you for clarifying the common misconception it and other border towns are associated with.
I really want to visit Reynosa. There is a class on facial reconstruction from a skull that is given in the US near the border and I'd love to live there for a couple months. It seems like a booming place.
@@aldranzam3456I lived there all the way to high school when it was still shit. It’s gotten better but wouldn’t be super excited to come back. Girl!! I was following this case, I thought, very closely. You had facts and insights that no one else has reported. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite journalists. Your work is impeccable! Thank you. Y’all have a blessed day!
When you get into history, especially Victorian, you end up realizing that this shit happens horrifically often. One poor woman spent 20 years in her own filth, her only contact being meals through a slot in her door brought by her brother.
I always wonder how and why a parent could do this. Each time I hear of child neglect cases, I get more confused. I will probably never understand what goes on in their brain and I will never accept the justification they give.
She should be in jail. The police could easily arrest her on multiple grounds. The fact they don't want to look bad by admitting their shitty work, only makes this so much worse. Admit your mistakes, try and do better! This case angers me so much. The police that were in the meeting with Rudy and the activist said they heard nothing of SA, I call bullshit. And poor Rudy, I feel for him so much, he deserved to have such a better mother.
Sending prayers to his mental and physical health. Rosa, grandma, really did tried to help and I want to thank her, and R.I.P to grandma. Wished one of the relatives would have went to the room Rosa pointed to that Rudy is there, and confirm for themselves and grandma. Just because someone has dementia, you should always confirm things for them and for yourself. I hope whoever Rudy lives with, will be patience and truly care for him. He’s been through so much.
The 8 year age gap between Rudy and his step brother reminded me of me and my sister, because she is 12 years older than me, and she is my favorite person ever, i can't imagine how painful it would be to lose her
I hope the cops are actually building a case against her in the background and aren't actually ignoring it at all... I can't imagine they'd ever ignore something like this.
I recognized him, as soon as I saw him. I was walking into Walmart and then Sam’s club. This was in FLORIDA! I recognized him immediately since every time I go I always have to stop and look when I leave and come in to check if I recognize anyone. My mom always goes on a rant on how “ I have to be careful “. I am pretty sure his photo may still be up there. I have been staring at his face for 2-5 minutes every time I enter that specific store. I can’t believe this is what happened to him. That poor boy
I watched a video of this case a couple days ago. It is horrible how eight years of his life were taken from him, being gaslit that people were after him. He was a teen when he "went missing" and now he is an adult. Just horrible how a mother can do this
How Rudy came out on the other side, sensitive, loving, understanding, forgiving, wise, insitefull and courageous, is truly amazing! G-d can use people like him and by the sound of it, it looks as though he is. I pray for complete healing for him and that he can escape the clutches of those who try to harm him like his own mother and it sounds like, through his posts, he’s doing fine but only he really knows how well he is. Much love to Rudy.
Being manipulated by a loved one is the most painful thing to experience. Imagine having to do something that you do not want to do, but you can't say no because if you do, they will make you feel bad about it. And all you have to do is agree because you love them and want them to be happy. I hope Rudy can get the help that he needs to heal from the trauma that he got from this situation.

Because cops aren't paragons of justice. Their jobs is to collect money from us and control us and that's it. Maybe with the exception of killing us when we're in their way. Qualified immunity is all you need to be aware of to confirm all of this. If their job was to do what is right they wouldn't need a legal workaround for when they're clearly outside of the law.
Rudy sounds like a very intelligent person. He's got some really deep insight my heart goes out to him I hope he's safe and away from his mom and continues on his journey of knowledge
I am friends with Rudy/Dolph and he told me that his mom threatened his life if he didn't go along with her plan to earn money. She absolutely does not care a single bit for Rudy and has not ever. I'm glad that Rudy told me why he was actually in the church parking lot. It is because his mom threw him out of the car there knowing that the church did not have any working security cameras where she pushed Rudy out of the car and was commanded to lay there and not say a word to anyone. I still keep in touch with Rudy to this day and he was shocked to find out that his mom did not report him missing the first day like she had told him. He is still trying to figure out his mom's reasoning of WHY. It is so sad that now he is actually trying to piece it all together by watching true crime RUclipsr's that cover his story.
Wow. Rudy needs support. And justice. His mother needs mental help. And I’m so blown away that she is still living in that house not paying for the trauma she caused. Rudy seems to be a bright young man who just didn’t want to hurt anyone, while he has been the one traumatized. So unfair.
Dear Stephanie, I'm a big fan of your channel and as a Mexican u have no idea how happy it made me to hear you portray Mexico as a normal country and not some crime-ridden hellhole, especially given the current political climate in the US where there are republicans literally proposing to invade Mexico 🤯. P.S. congratulations on your marriage!!! It was the most adorable ceremony and I wish u and ur #1 follower all the happiness in the world! ❤
I can not believe these cops did not arrest her. She should be in prison for life. This a kid with a beautiful soul who also who needs a good support system and love.
Nice of you talk about Munchausen's syndrome by proxy, because I also thought of that, and I feel so bad for Rudy, because his freedom was sacrificed for having a mother who wants sick attention.
I had the same thought, but after hearing the rest of the story, I think Rudy’s mom has either narcissistic or histrionic personality disorder. That said, I’ve often wondered if new diagnoses or diagnostic criteria won’t have to be created specifically to address mental illnesses associated with social media and/or influencer culture. This case is just one example of people going to extreme lengths for the sake of content or clout, and I doubt it will be the last.
@@anondecepticon They just changed Munchausen by Proxy to Factitious Disorder imposed by another, so I don’t think it will be long until something like this gets included to create a new term for severe attention seeking disorder that involves a victim. It’s really is the same root cause for Munchausen and what poor Rudy went through.
@@anondecepticonDude. She made him sick and kept him as her fucking prisoner while posting online milking sympathy from people who thought she was a supermom. Its Munchausen's. This is incredibly egregious for HPD. Maybe it's all three (possible), but she definitely has a clear Munchausen's personality disorder based on the information we have, at least. She reveled in the attention she got for a child SHE brainwashed and kept captive. That's pretty specific. She's definitely got a lot going on, lol. Her thinking she's above being caught and being so ballsy.. that's an interesting detail. So yeah. She needs to be locked tf up in an institution.
@@anondecepticonI think she had something beyond that as well.. Like some level of psychopathy or maybe ripley syndrome. The poor son may be on the autism spectrum based on the description but thats just my assumption.
The things he said about his brother/dad is so powerful and inspiring. His letter he wrote about his brother/dad was incredible. Especially how he was 13-14 at the time!! I can’t even write a letter like that!! He’s just sooo incredible and I HOPE he’s ok!

In 1989, I was introduced to a gal, slightly older than me, who was fluent in Spanish. She was traveling solo through Europe. She was stopping in Spain to meet up with a relative for a few days that I knew. What brought her to mind was your mention of dialects. She had a restaurant and bar owner in southern California convinced that she was a graduate of a university in Mexico City that had moved to the states. Imagine his surprise to find out on her 21st birthday that she'd actually been a local, born and raised in the USA, that had been using a fake ID and had developed a perfect mimic of a dialect because of who her Spanish teacher had been. The dialects were that specific, at least still back in the '80s. My HS Spanish teacher refused to teach us any Mexican slang or spanglish. She was born in Portugal and her Spanish was from Spain itself, so it was very proper and with clear pronunciation. 😂 Edit: This case, why can't they arrest her for filing false police reoorts, committing fraud against the media, family, friends, neighbors, and charity that contributed time and money, etc? What about essentially kidnapping him, holding him illegally? She brainwashed and gaslit this kid like a cult leader.
My friend speaks Spanish from Mexico (I'm not sure which specific part) and she says Spanish from Spain is like speaking with a lisp in English. She very much so dislikes Spain Spanish for that reason lol
@@Pbness I agree; but even Spain has different dialects. My Spanish teacher taught us as if from the universities in Madrid. But after spending a month on the Mediterranean coast, I had picked up all of the Andalusian phrasing and pronunciations. 😁 Sadly, "use it or lose it," is real and I have very little Spanish left in my brain, decades later.
Spanish from Spain is to Latinos what British English is to Americans. Most of us Spanish speakers kinda make fun of it (cause a lot of Spanish people are assholes to latinos) cause of the lisp but also because they speak in a very theatrical type of way its pretty annoying lmao
Spanish from Mexico is also proper and clear...just as in other parts of Latin America and I would dare to say that is in fact more understandable than Spanish from Spain, the difference is on the accents, and ofcourse the level of education of the speaker. Just as in English there's a proper version and a streets version.
@@bellasong5541 😁 I picked up the side-eyes between the different dialects while I was in Spain in '89. I was in a tourist area. I'm a people watcher by nature. I was in heaven listening and observing all of the different personalities. 🤣
there is literally someone out there saying “every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a kid“ and this woman just proved that right again along with Lacey, Fletcher’s parents and a whole bunch of other parents out there
Why can't they charge her with theft for the go fund me? There are so many charges that they could put against her regarding this case and the police are choosing to do nothing. How incredibly disappointing to Rudy. 😢
Here in Mexico we had a case really similar, a girl was missing and 10 days later she was found in her own bed. Like, there are multiple interviews with the family members were they’re sitting in the same bed she was found. This was really REALLY sketchy and weird, her family had a lot of money and contacts and her case just became a circus… her de4th was supposed to be an accident, but multiple people that worked in the case, years later have said that it was everything but an accident Her name was Paulette Gebara
You are so amazing Stephanie! We love your stories and we love YOU! Thank you for always going into such depth and being so respectful about the victims and their situations.
The grandmother was trying to tell everyone. Are you telling me that nobody looked in that room in the whole family? That’s the most messed up part that she was labeled as having dementia and that boy was trapped in that room. I would’ve looked whether I thought she had dementia or not.
As the victim of incest, it can be REALLY hard to recognize that what happened to you was abuse, especially when it's not clearly rape/assault. It's so normalized, and your parent tells you that it's okay, because they're you're MOM/DAD. I didn't realize that what happened to me was incest until I was 32 and listened to I'm Glad My Mom Died, and heard what Jennette's mom did to her. I literally couldn't process it for MONTHS because it never occurred to me that that behavior was SEXUAL ABUSE. My mom was a CSA survivor, and she always told my and my sister about the lengths she went through to protect us, so realize that SHE had sexually abused me was too much to handle for a bit. What Rudy's mom did to him is 100% sexual abuse. That woman belongs in PRISON.
this entire case is so awful. i can't believe she's not being charged for anything. even if they don't have evidence of any SA, they should at least charge her for false imprisonment. i hope rudy finds peace and happiness in the future.
How bout for fraud too? Like, bare minimum, this lady committed fraud with her GoFundMe for the Reynosa "mission", among other things but that's the one that sticks out in my mind
I’m a mother of an adult son, my own flesh and blood, I cannot imagine ever jeopardising his life like that! My sentiment is that some people really shouldn’t be parents. This case hits close to home! My heart is weeping for the boy!

Just wanted to say that I love your new show! Well done!

Wow. Your research is impressive. You really understood the Chicano Spanish /native Mexican Spanish dynamic and you even made a mention to the infamous “no sabo” kids. I’m a Mexican immigrant and my parents taught me native Spanish. But as generations are introduced, Spanish starts changing. My two kids will probably speak Chicano Spanish and thus be considered “no sabos”. BTW: the term “no sabo” comes from Chicano kids saying “yo no sabo” when asked something and not knowing the answer, or not being able to answer because their Spanish isn’t that good. Instead of saying the correct “yo no se” (means I don’t know).
When you were saying at the end about how Rudy has changed Stephanie, I was thinking this poor young man would surely be suffering from PTSD and the other complex issues that go with it. I wonder if he will get past the young mental age he was when this occurred. I hope he gets a lot of help, support and love from his extended family. ❤ There surely must be charges for his mother. You would think at the very least the police would enjoy arresting her after all her public criticism of them. He was underage when this started. Maybe the FBI could charge her. Let’s see what happens and hope she does get charged. Thanks so much for your storytelling as always. You are the first person that has made sense of this story to me. I hadn’t been able to work out what was going on when a couple of others mentioned it on their channel. Im glad you covered it! ❤
Stephanie, can you please make a video about the “Birgitte Tengs“ case? There has been a lot of theories and drama about the case, and it was only recently that they finally discovered what they think is the truth. The case happened in 1995, and she was only 17 when she was murderd. Her cousin was sentenced, but was let out, because of too little evidence. He had to move to another country because all the attention he got, made it difficult for him to live normally. It’s a very known case in Norway, and a lot of documentaries was made about it!
This is an incredibly sad story about an incredible child. I hope they find all the peace and comfort they need to grow and enjoy the years to come. Bless him.
im so pissed at this ending. NO CHARGES? he literally showed evidence of SA self harm and abuse marks. this is absolutely messed up. i hope the mother gets punished.

I went through Rudy's facebook acc and it seems he was in a very emotional state due to his brother's death and looks like the mother took advantage of his depression and brainwashed him into followinv whatever she told him to do and tortured him mentally, physical.
!!!
Exactly this!
That's exactly what I was thinking!! I've never been close to someone with dementia. I was wondering if showing her the empty room would have helped her. If one of her other kids/grandkids tried to show her, that awful woman's bs would have ended years earlier.
The room was locked tho, not sure if that would have helped :/
You are right, just can't believe this
She's like a much less horrendous Blache Monnier's mom.

WHY DIDN'T THE PIGS DO ANYTHING!?
@DeaDiabola because sexual abuse of males is unfortunately not taken seriously.
As far as filing a false report and the primary crime, I am stumped.
I would agree this is sexual abuse.

Why are people still not recognizing emotional and mental control? Particularly when the person has the ability to groom their victim before hand. Physical isn't the only form of control.
All of the police departments involved need to wake up and right some wrongs from many years ago.
No wonder Rudy is downplaying things now... his mother was literally heard saying she would KHS if he told the truth. Black mail? Isn't that a crime as well?!?!? Threatening, intimidating..?

She shouldn't be sent to the mental hospital, but let the prison do what prison do with her.

@@InuyashaGreenlmao okay Mr. Anime, tell us the actual story then.
There were a lot of other things too
So even though they have dementia & say things that make no sense to us.. I’ve learned from my aunt that sometimes those weird outta pocket words do in fact mean something.
❤
What a lovely story!
it sounds bittersweet but I'm glad you were able to find those things she left for you
That’s very sweet, I’m sure she must’ve hidden those notes in hopes you’d piece together her words and eventually find them even if she was mentally deteriorating, even if she passes on. Kinda like a little piece of her heart in each note whenever she “got a hold” of herself.
“I don’t want to forget you tomorrow” made me lose it 😢 that is so sad.
They should be able to charge her with wasting tax dollars by making a false police report. A false police report is definitely illegal.
that makes it even more wired. why are the police not doing that?
And fraud for her “fundraising”
Totally, she also conned people of more than 2000 dollars.
It isn't so wrong on many levels to warrant an arrest. Rudy should sue his mother ot the family should and then they arrest her and include this

I do this with language

yeah when she said in Mexico we look down on the way chicanos speak i was like omg that's true
This is such a rough case. I hope he’s found independence and happiness!
Indeed . Away from his mom
well this happened 2 months ago so probs not
I had a similar upbringing.
He’s back at the house but I also heard he’s over at someone else’s home but in the same neighborhood
@@Cutest-Bunny998That’s a good metaphor, "The axe forgets, but the tree remembers."
I'm also a CSA survivor.

Not even close to that case. This is false imprisonment, even real kidnapping, sexual assault, drugging... very different and so much worse.
I thought the same!
This makes more sense!!
I thought the same thing 😢
I thought so too
I agree. I didn't understand the part where her neighbors knew nothing about Rudy? They didn't know she had a missing son? What??
Every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a child. This is relatable here.
Amen!!
I've heard that they're not doing anything unless you're english or wealthy or smth and your post makes me more and more convinced that its absolutely true
Fucking disgusting
Like seriously thank God most women want to be alone and wanna be single
!!!!!!!!!!
I am currently in Bulgaria visiting my family and this case is so heartbreaking. Deboras case deserves more coverage and justice. If you see this Stephanie, please research and cover this case. The word needs to be spread
Jesus.... Laws to protect women from intimate partner violence are a joke around the world.
Yes exactly!
Isn't this a case of false imprisonment?? This woman needs to be in custody!! The things she did to this young man is horrible!!!
I'm normally against imprisoning people on drug charges, but if it allows her to be charged I'd be glad...
According to Rudy, she manipulated him psychologically but did not forcibly confine him. It seems she committed several other crimes, though, including child abuse, filing a false police report, and defrauding people who donated money to help find Rudy.

Does he have to specify each sexual act for you to believe otherwise? Without blatant S.A. ita still brutal. No need to fill in blanks.
How is she not being charged wtf 😮
Her own child. How could she do that to her own son? He didn't deserve that, nobody deserves that. And the fact that no charges were pressed was disgusting.
Think about it: her husband and older son died, so she became unhealthily possessive over her younger son and mother.

And all you have to do is agree because you love them and want them to be happy. I hope Rudy can get the help that he needs to heal from the trauma that he got from this situation.
Being a Houstonian and having someone like her being free is honestly disgusting. I hope Rudy gets all the help he needs.

Edit: This case, why can't they arrest her for filing false police reoorts, committing fraud against the media, family, friends, neighbors, and charity that contributed time and money, etc?
Sadly, "use it or lose it," is real and I have very little Spanish left in my brain, decades later.

Wow thanks for the yo no se detail!

OMG! I live here and learned more watching Rotten Mango than what we got from the local news! Love the way you tell a story! ❤
There surely must be charges for his mother.
I really hope she does!
This is an incredibly sad story about an incredible child. I hope they find all the peace and comfort they need to grow and enjoy the years to come. Bless him.
As a Hispanic daughter of a mexican immigrant Spanish Professor I Love the thorough explanation of the intricacies of Mexican dialect ❤❤
im so pissed at this ending. NO CHARGES? he literally showed evidence of SA self harm and abuse marks. this is absolutely messed up. i hope the mother gets punished.
I always look forward to the background "Wooooow!" How else will I know the story is interesting?! 😂🙌
I like to imagine he's like on the edge of his seat absolutely fascinated by the story
As a Houstonian I can honestly say I’ve never heard of this case. I graduated 2014, I can’t believe how close in age and how close this case was to me.
It was a big deal with Grizzy Hoods News, Quanell X, and the lady with the cowboy hat. He was featured in local media for a while.
My goodness! Poor Rudy!
Robbed of his life and tortured by his own mother!
That young picture of him shows the face of a sweet young boy and my heart hurts for him so much.
May he find peace and happiness!
I went through Rudy's facebook acc and it seems he was in a very emotional state due to his brother's death and looks like the mother took advantage of his depression and brainwashed him into followinv whatever she told him to do and tortured him mentally, physical. Its disgusting to even think a mother can do something like this to you. Such a brilliant and bright person missed out 8 years of his life for someone so disgusting and it will be so traumatizing for him to geth through all this. Hipe he gets help he needs and gets out of this asap.
This is just so sad!🥺 thank you for covering this! One note about Reynosa - it’s definitely not a tourist town & isn’t the safest place to visit 😢
The True Crime cases where someone is held in captivity is honestly the most terrifying ones 😕 I've heard about way to many now. I really hope he recovers from this and can heal 😭🙏❤ my heart truly goes out to him 😢
