What I've learned from my dad is to be PRESENT! My dad was a stay at home parent while my mum had a small job and would basically provide fee and other stuff while my dad would go to the garden and ensure we had the basics (mboga & mahindi for unga, tuviazi etc. But even in that, my dad dropped me and my siblings to school on a bike every morning and picked us up without fail, he made sure we were showered and ate when we came home in the afternoon. He taught us outdoor games, chezaad football chobo with us until mum came home jioni and we'd all have dinner together Hadi kesho we start over.I don't remember ever asking my dad for money but his everyday presence made soo much difference in my life. I love my parents forever!

I learnt many thing from my dad but one thing I learnt is that men can be very hands on with their children if they want to. My dad was very intentional when it came to us kids. He bathed us, helped us find our socks in the mornings when we couldn't find them, took us to all our doctors appointments. He would come home early from work, earlier than my mum to make sure we have bathed and had our evening tea. My dad was goals for me. The way my dad paid attention to my needs was off the charts.

What I learned from my dad is how tragic it is to refuse to face yourself. That you can be flying high one moment and lack 50bob for food or airtime the next. That burning bridges the minute you're inconvenienced costs you a great deal in the end. Living a life only for yourself is a pathetic little existence no matter how materially successful you may be. Work on yourself. Nurture relationships. Lay down your pride. Live simply and justly

He is still working in Nairobi in a University but i have not seen him for 24years as i did not live in Ke so i cut the relationship. Only now i am able forgive. He keeps going above and beyond for people who don't even deserve it but no one is ever looking out for him unless they want something from him...This only made me realise that the world will use you if you let them...I've had to learn how to set boundaries

Also, being a traditional man, I was shocked when he once told me that love is never reason enough to sit in an abusive relationship or marriage. Such a great topic.
My dad passed away 20 years ago when I was 7. But to this day I feel myself intrinsically surrounded by his love and protection. Even though in the physical sense I've been painfully reminded of his absence when people take advantage of me not having a father figure around to protect me, I am always learning from this process that love is boundless, that there's so much of it to nourish me (first and foremost) and share with others that are worthy of it. When my dad was here I felt his love, protection, acceptance and care, and I move knowing I'm enveloped in all of that. His physical death doesn't get in the way of me (and my family) feeling his presence everyday. I miss him though, wish he was still here.

Lydia, I totally relate. My mom moved to America when I was 10 and I didnt get to join her until I was 15. Those 5 years were HELL for me. I was super attached to my mom & didnt really know my dad like that. We had to go live my dad which I am grateful for bc it allowed us to rekindle our relationship. The fear of abandonment that comes from a parent leaving is intense. This is a topic I think needs to be unpacked. Ive never heard people talk about it in depth.

I have learnt patience, kindness, hard work and integrity from my dad. I have also learnt to change and be flexible to situations; like you can be a better person in your finances, relationships, work, health, etc. You can change for the better. I also learnt that making your bed is the first accomplishment of the day. My dad has taught me about hope and having faith that things get better.
On that issue of addictions and if it is willpower, it is not about willpower, we all have that but it will not help. It is about discipline, the courage to drop that bad habit, to take up the responsibility to fix it. Drinking is first a choice that can be fueled by so many factors, and then habitual consumption becomes an addiction. The combination of so many things; depression, anxiety, grief, failure, etc. makes it harder. And then it becomes a disease, you can not function normally without alcohol. Some people do not make the effort because they have given up on themselves. The ones that come out of it have hope, they believe their still some tiny hope somewhere, and they low-key wish things can be different.

Honestly, i used to find Murugi Munyi quite the snob and I didn't like her as much. But this episode has made me change my perspective about her and i have realized that I judged her badly and i didn't even know her.(more work to do on myself) This is the episode she has been most vulnerable and she has swept my heart away. you deserve all the best in your life Murugi..

My dad taught me that as a woman, it is my responsibility to protect my husband's wealth against my relatives for the sake of my children's future. Dad, out of his love for his wife, wasted a lot of cash raising his inlaws only for us to have to depend on scholarships to become doctors. Now that am married, I encourage my husband to save and invest for himself and his children and he is not allowed to send my relatives money without my consent. He does the same for me against his family. It's a boundary we're both very intentional about. My family my responsibility. My husband will not pay for sijui my kid sister's varsity tuition fees. I'll do it!

@TMI Podcast KE I discovered your channel about a month ago on Utube. I have been binge watching/listening since. I do a long commute. Basically, every day, I get into the car and say in my head, we're Munugi and Lydia😄.I put on a Utube upload and listened to the conversation all the way in my long commutes. It is so refreshing! I smile, I laugh, I'm in awe, I hear and feel the possibilities of living a great life when you are true to yourself and ready to embrace and celebrate the light within you.
Yesterday, a Utuber asked on her Community page if we listened to podcasts and which. I name your Utube podcasts, and some acknowledged my thoughts on my recommendations of your channel.
Be sharing and telling everyone about you. I shared this episode with my brother, and it was a light bulb moment for him. Your conversations are appreciated and valid. More Blessings 💕 💕💕

what Lydia said towards the end, ''too late to turn things around'', that's where I am with my father, He was never there in my life, he's now trying, but I can't because of the few bad memories I have from trying to get close to him while I was a child, I am now 28.

Feels nice. Throughout I tried very hard to find positive traits of my dad but there is none. All interactions I have had with him have been toxic toward me. We've met only a handful of times since I was 8yrs old. Maybe I have to dig deeper, nobody is that "bad".
