small tip from a local luxemburgish guy. i speak all 3 languages, and if you want to open a conversation with someone, then french is the way to go. greetings from Luxemburg
HI there, great video! A bit about the language situation: locals speak at least 3 languages, Luxembourgish, French and German and the younger people also speak English. Now here’s the thing: only half of our population are actual Luxembourgers. We have a very large Portuguese community and a very big part of our workforce comes from either France or Belgium. since a lot of those work in the capital, French is the go-to language there and in the south as well. However, the more you move to the north and the east, French gets replaced by German, because of geography and the many German workers. I grew up near the German border, so I’m more at ease with German, however people who grow up close to France or Belgium are more familiar with French. The best thing to do when entering a shop or a restaurant is open with “moien”. If you get a “moien” back, it’s safe to assume you’re dealing with a local.
Hi, nice video of my home country :) Just a few small corrections if you don't mind. It's not a Royal Palace as we don't have a king, but a Grand-Ducal Palace ( we are the only nation to have a Grand-Duc AFAIK ). The Grand-Duc uses the Palace as an 'office' and for official meeting but doesn't live there. His residence is in the Colmar-Berg castle. Unfortunatelly you probably missed my prefered "unknown curiosity" in the city, less than 50m away from the Viaduc, the "Chapelle Saint-Quirin", a small church carved in the rocks, look it up, it's worth it :)
Long layovers are always a great “hack”. If the plane’s on time, you get a cool “mini-vacation” stop. If the plane’s late, you’ve got built in cushion time to catch your connection. Works either way! Glad you had a great time in a country that is often overlooked. And thanks for sharing!
Luxembourg looks so cool! We almost went through there when driving from Spain to Germany, but decided to skip it. Now, there we''ve moved to Germany, we have no reason not to get there! Love the video as well! Keep up the good work and can't wait for the next one!
Thank you for this update... Is it possible for me to secure a job in Luxembourg and then move to it? I have heard seen and heard so much about this beautiful and prospering nation. I would love any help to get a stay there. I am a photographer, video director, cinematographer, and video editor from Nigeria. Any hopes for me, can you help me?
Awesome and beautiful video as usual Ben and a Camille. My co-worker just moved to Luxembourg and after seeing this video I am so jealous. Sharing with him and the team. Beautiful area and so interesting with the mix of language.
You were only in the upper city. You misst the lower city and the European-and-Finance District on Kirchberg. But all in all a good and pleasant video.
Luxembourg is a tiny country but not a micronation. A micronation is actually a fantasy nation established by very few people and non recognised by other countries, like Sealand near the english Coast or Christiana in Copenhagen.
Stopped in Luxembourg during a trip to Europe. was there for one day, loved it. so beautiful and walkable. The public elevators were great! would love to go back and spend more time there.
Oh, that’s a good video! I loved! I’m Brazilian and I’ll travel to Luxembourg soon. I’m to working with a instrumental quintet called “La Boca”. One of the things that I like is the musical scene of Luxembourg. Do you can talk about that later? Obrigado!🙂
Absolutely wonderful Video again. I've been to Luxemburg several times and absolutely love it. Although I think it is not an easy place to fall in live with, if you, like me, exoect a Medieval mirical it being a World Heritage site. It took me some time to stomach and digest all the different archtectual styles, the architectual diversity and the short lifespan a building has in this town. Once you succedded, you will be hocked and will never stop being fascinated by this town. Have you tried the Café opposite the Royal Palace? It's not cheap but it has the most tasty cakes and drinking chocolate ever.
That's a very good way to summarise it. We were only there for a day, so we spent most of the time trying to summarise. We didn't go to that cafe, but I do remember what you are talking about. It left quite an impression!
@@lucy7594 I don't remember, but you should always be vaccinated if you are going to travel. It is important to do your best to protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
It is a nitpick that I left out of the video, but I was a little disappointed that their main town square was thoroughly dominated by a Pizza Hut, Burger King, and McDonalds. Not that I don't mind some fast food here and there, but having it be the only option inn a historic town square just felt a bit off to me.
@@NearFromHome That's because mostly international franchises (here fast food) can afford the ultra high rents in the Place d'Armes Square in Luxembourg, many good restaurants and shops died off in the last 20 years because of the high rents. You still have some iconic restaurants in the streets around the Square : Brasserie Guillaume (Seafood and Carpaccio), Um Dierfgen (traditional Luxembourg dishes), Clairefontaine (French cuisine), Al Bacio (Italian), D'Artagnan (horsemeat steaks with garlic), Chocolate House (cakes), Palais de Chine (Chinese food), Yamayu Santatatsu and Kamkura (Japanese food), Batucada (Brazilian food), Mosconi (Michelin Star Italian), Chiggeri (former Guinness World Record of biggest wine collection)... Thank you for your well made VLOG of Luxembourg.

Was the video not clear enough? Really? When you open up google maps for Luxembourg City Center you can’t find the castle and the elevators? If so, my sincerest apologies :)
I've gone to too many Germanic castles! But what else am I supposed to do? How can I not pickup some bad language habits after visiting die Burgruine Burg Burgberg oder Burg zu Burghausen.
Be careful. I went to Luxembourg for a weekend in 1988. Still here!
lol :D

Thanks for the video. On my way to Luxembourg today and there for just 24 hours and I’ve made all the notes now about what all I need to do there :)
Awesome! Glad you found this helpful. Have fun!

Belgium: Am I joke to you?
I’m dying 😅
Good point
Actually, Belgium even has the longest border with Luxembourg 😉

Shopowners speak French, engineers speak German but English is the most commonly used language according to the bar man in a boozer we were in.
Lol, well, that's us.

We will have to visit it next time. Unfortunately we were only in Luxembourg for one day on a layover.
Please how can i get your email... I wish to relocate to Luxembourg from Nigeria
Looks awesome! And I love the long layover hack (although we haven't flown since arriving in Germany). Enjoy England!
Thanks! 🥰 it really was fun

What are some nice pubs to hang out in. Will be traveling from Amsterdam to Luxembourg?
Sorry, we didn't really end up eating much in Luxembourg. We spent all day running around and filming. haha
You should visit Porto. There are A LOT of bridges there
Perform some bridge based tourism? I like that. 😎
Thank for your enthousiasm about Luxembourg my hometown 5:40 😊

I hope you make it!

I love this country!
Now we do too 🥰
The butterfly thing is super tack and really kills the historic charm.
I kinda like them!
hi we really want to go but entering luxembourg did they ask for covid stuff?
We didn’t have to do anything Covid related.
Did they ask at the boarder if your vaccination

Wouldn't it make more sense to have Baroque music or some other classical music to fit the scenery?
I can’t say that it would, no.
