Awesome tips on the proper knots for a tight ridge line and taut tarp. Improved my setup instantly. Thanks!
One of the best hammock videos available. THANK YOU HAMMOCK LORD
Great video, I learned 3 or 4 new things I didn't know and am looking forward to next summer now even more. I started making hammocks last summer and now everyone I know has one. I care for two small children and they think the hammocks are the coolest thing I ever did for them. I hang theirs really low so if they fall out no harm done. my not quite two year old charge fell out last summer, never cried just climbed back in and went back to swinging and his 4 year old sister pesters me to no end to go out and swing in the hammocks. Once again great video and keep em coming.
I'm from the USA and already have 5 hammock camps under my belt but...What a great vid full of great tips! Well Done.
I bought hammocks from this brand and another brand on amaozn www.amazon.com/dp/B07NLSKSRF. In my opinion, the one from amazon is more suitable for beginners cos it didn't cost too much and the quality is good enough for camping.
A really well put together informative video.I already own a DD tarp.It looks like i shall be buying a DD hammock too.
Just got a hammock and yr vid was very helpful...ive subbed to yr channel....my ol 59 year old body cant take the ground anymore...and those blow up matris.s are heavy and alot of pumping to blowup..plus a pump to carry while hikeing...thank.s..
great presentation! love the ultralight hammock and bug net.
I'm no noob however this explanation of the prussik knots and ridge line has clicked with me. I don't usually use a continuous ridge line but will give it a go this weekend it would be great to be able to hang a light and some socks and stuff like that from the line. I usually just throw each end around a tree. Can't wait to try out all the DD stuff I just bought haha feel like a kid at Xmas.
if you tie a not in the prussik so it is a loop, then loop it around the ridge line twice as he does, then you can use a carabiner for the tarp to connect to the prussik, super handy
Well done... I always appreciate a video that gets right to the topic and stays on topic throughout!!!
Richard Raymond but not in the right ear
Came back here, going to add it to my playlists. I am still borrowing a DD Hammock I had posted on here about in the past. Borrowed his for the summer, it is in my backyard. I was run over by a car and now cannot do much for the long term so sleeping in my backyard in the borrowed DD Hammock is nice for me. I have tried to win your hammocks twice online, no luck lol.
Heading out for my first over night hammock trip this weekend. This video helped clear some points up. Nice to see a British vid for once as not all ideas and camping methods spawned in other countries directly convert to the British climate, location and weather etc. Many thanks.
So glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching! - Jocasta
Try finding these kind of videos suited for Australia. Our climate, wilderness is so alien compared to the rest of the world.
Simple yet informative, thank you.
Excellent! I think I'll stow a DD hammock in my pack for my next kayak or SUP adventure ;-)
First year hammock camper here, and I must say, not even an inflatable mattress does justice for me anymore. My favorite way to go is to set up right where I'm fishing. Then I can catfish through out the night, crash out whenever I feel like, and wake up to a beautiful water front in the morning. Usually this service comes with breakfast in bed too.
+Rush Yahr
Awesome idea! Will have to give it a go too! Zanna
DD Hammocks do you have cat fish in the UK?
Great Video, nice products. I'll definitely be checking out your systems.
Excellent video! Very informative and easy to understand. Thanks, it really helped me out being a beginner.
A word of advice also from a beginner...I bought the Hennessy Jungle and tarp for my son...Never had a chance to set it up and play with it...customize it... All I had going into a 3 day fishing trip was what the videos showed me... Oh! chances are you won't find that perfect spot so practice practice practice
P.S.:
Try setting up a second ridgeline for your tarp...that gives you more headroom
Great series of videos, thanks. You just answered my question about the Superlight having an under slot :)
Great info. Thanks for the tips and tricks!
I am getting ready to buy my first hammock in the coming weeks. I have slept in my nephew's DD hammock many nites and also tried his Grand Trunk a few nites too. I like your company, and the hammock and this video was very hammock-101 useful and I really appreciated all the basics being covered. I am in Canada. Thank you.
+Barry Dutton, thank you Barry! Very pleased to hear you love both hammock and the video! Zanna
Great work, really wish I had watched this prior to my first horrible attempt lol. Thanks for the info
Story pls
Wonderful tips! It didn't even feel like watching an advert
Really helpful video, thanks fella
Awesome guide. I'm never going back to tents again :p
Serac Hammocks
Hey, Serac.
Thanks very much for your feedback - very pleased to hear the guide is helpful!
Zanna
The different knots were quite useful actually. I had tried tying up a ridge line, but I used knots that became really difficult to untie after a rain storm. Those quick release ones don't seem like they'd have that issue.
Hey dustysquito ,
Yes, quick release knots really make your life easier.
Zanna
Thanks for taking the time to make and upload this. You're a gem.
All fun and games until he gets mined
12.01....a lot of questions asked.. Tbh I'd never pitch my ridgeline below my hammock.. That's really not going to keep you dry :-) . .. I assume you meant tarp here but either way good video thanks for the info. I have the 3 x 3 which works well for me simple paracord ridge with prussiks holds well. Of course the ridgeline below the tarp gives you the options of using the spare prussiks for hanging a lightweight light up.
Great work on video mate greetings from spain 👍👍👍
My right ear is lonely:)
lmaoo
I thought my AirPod pro was broken 😂. I tried just about everything to fix it. I was able to control play and stop just using right ear pod no sound. Until I decide to try a sound. 😂 took me awhile to figured out. The recording was mono
Ah thank you! I only had my right ear bud in!
Cheers dude, good shout... I only ever use one ear piece, was about to skip
😄
excellent video
Very good video. The first time I set up my hammock it was a fail lol
thanks for the info.
very well presented.
Awesome for motorbike camping trips!
Very useful video. Thank you.
Good job bud! Nice video.
Nice one Dan!
Nice video, thank you very much!!
great video, thanks
great guide! thunks!
a simple andfor good understandig video.
I love my Hammocks!
Great tutorial indeed! I love my DD and now hate going out when I'm forced to ground dwell. BTW, it would be awesome if you guys could do a video on how to hang your underquilt, or some ideal ways to hang it. I've never gotten cold using my DD underquilt, but never really seem to be happy with how I attach it ..
Robert McKenzie
Hi Robert,
Thanks very much for your feedback! Here is a link to an intro video we made about DD Underblanket and how to attach it to your hammock - ruclips.net/video/PXua_fTqhPA/видео.html . Hope this helps!
Best wishes,
Zanna
Robert McKenzie
Hi Robert, it is Frontline hammock used in the video, and we do recommend diagonal lay in all our hammocks - we think it is the most comfy way, so if you haven't tried it - definitely worth giving it a go! About elastic cord attached to Underblaket - it is quite easy to 'adjust' the length to fit your underblanket perfectly underneath your hammock - however it should not be too tight - as the air pocket between the under blanket and hammock is what keeping you warm! Hope you have a good time trying it all out :)
Cheers,
Zanna
Great review haven't tried any of the DD hammock look great though.
great video, thank you :-)
My left ear loved it
thank you I read the comments after and realize that you had already answered the question so that's about 275 pounds, unfortunately I weigh over 300 pounds so Hammock Camping might not be the best idea for me but I really would like to be up off the ground, any suggestions on a viable solution
Thanks!
Double D’s are the best!!
365 days in a year, i sleep in a hammock.. been doing this for 4 years. :) Hammocks in my house! And in the woods!.. :)
Flat Earth where do you have sex... wtf
eno doublenest deluxe is best for sexy time, it allows for more positions
you do not live in Finland, I guess 👍😎
Why not in Finland?
What style North Face pants are you wearing? I like them.
I only have one work ing hand got a good way to set up a hammock.
great video, just got my new dd camping hammock and can't wait to try it out. Sounds like a stupid question I know but do you hang it with the zip seam facing up or down , probably doesn't make any difference but I have seen videos showing it hung either way up
+Ashley Whittington
I hope you enjoy getting out and about with it!
You should hang the hammock with the zips facing up :)
-Joe
Just wondering where about was this filmed? Looks like a good place to relax
so happy with my product, money well spend
Love the travel hammock during the summer but was disapointed in the winter months with the webbing getting wet soaking me, started to look into a fix and frankly 31 quid for an alternative (the woopie sling) after already paying over 50 quid for for the hammock was a bit of a kick in the teeth to be fair, great company quality products but that one small issue as a customer was a bit of a let down.
+Jackal Bushcraft Just tie a piece of cord to each end of the webbing before the webbing meets the hammock
That way any rain will run and drip off the cord you have tied instead of running down the webbing to your hammock. Problem solved
@@Tuggers1986 aka drip lines :)
Yeah I think I'd prefer an underqilt. I used an inflatable Matt and found it quite uncomfortable compared to the natural feel of the hammock
Stupid question :
Misses and I would love to go hammock camping together, is there a way we both we can sleep under the same tarp?
If so what dd tarp would be recommended
It's not just mosquitoes that are problematic. Does this keep out midges like my tent window and jungle bag do?
I also like a good lay in my hammock.
Where is this? It looks so beautiful!
The Eddie Vedder song was a great start to the video
My left ear enjoyed that.
I can't wait to do some hammock camping videos this summer! :) :)
Thank you for your comment - look forward to watching them!
excellent presentation, any plans for a double hammock for couples?
+Big Ken Glad you liked it! :) No plans as yet to make a double hammock, sorry to disappoint. - Jocasta
audio is in one ear. grrr. very informative though
+Jimmins Ha, ha, I thought my computer was broken, lol
+Jimmins I've got NO audio at all!
Yeah, very annoying, had wait til I could unplugg my headphones.
Does the hammock also come without the right side.
How did he manage the audio in only one ear? I didn’t know that was possible
Where can I get a bug bet with elastic botton
Great video, I have a DD camping hammock, I've put it up and it seems great, not slept in it yet but I do worry about wicking if it rains, any advice ?
colin brown
Hey Colin, thanks for your feedback!
You can try using drip lines. Simply tie a piece of string several times round each rope (near the hammock) with the end of the string hanging an inch or two down. This diverts any water running down the rope to your hammock straight to the ground.
Hope this helps,
Zanna
Great thanks 😀
Any recommendations that's like a Hennessey for tropical islands/jungle climate
Vietnam Thailand Cambodia Philippines Hawaii Saint Thomas Virgin Islands
A double size With a ridge line to pack your stuff
Silly question but, my tarp only has the outside loops, is it best to set the ridge line underneath the tarp and pull both edges tight with a fist knot or set it above the tarp and do the same? Will it not sag if it isn’t underneath?
Hi Chris - We would recommend that you use the ridgeline through the top loops. You can then use a prussik knot, made from a closed loop of separate cord, either side to tighten the tarp along the top. As long as your ridge-line is tight then it will not sag :)
The reason for this is because in rainy weather, water can run along the ridge-line. If the ridge-line is underneath the tarp, you could find water dripping off underneath or around the edges of your tarp. Using the ridge-line above means that the tarp itself will act as protection against this. I hope this helps!

i love the gear, i have done some of my own reviews,

Sept. 23 2017. Nobody at DD Hammocks cannot answer my question. I have a tent that is 255cm (100 inches) long. 175cm (68 inches) wide. 85cm (33 inches) high. DD doesn't know if a 4 meter by 4 meter square tarp will cover this tent. The tarp will be folded in half on a horizontal rope attached between two trees. The horizontal long 4 meter sides will be pegged out on the ground. The 2 meter vertical sides will be touching each other and sealed shut. Will this tarp work? Thanks.
Will I die if I sleep on my front?
What
Best you start topping up your stock. Want to buy a hammock setup, yet you don't have any underquilts available on your site
I have tried to sleep in a hammock with my feet slightly raised, but have found my toes losing circulation, getting cold, and being very uncomfortable. What are your recommendations?
Thanks!
Hi Nathanael! We generally recommend laying diagonally in the hammock as this will offer you a flatter lie to avoid raised footing. If you're feeling cold you can use insulation with the hammock such as our DD Underblanket or a camping mat if there are layers to insert this between. In terms of comfort, it's a good idea to play around with the suspension until you find the best hang for you. If you need any further help with this, feel free to contact us at: sales@ddhammocks.com. I hope this helps! Best regards, Vikki - DD Hammocks
I didn't realise you were working for DD. R u still there?
I sure wish I had a bug net when I was hammock camping and there were just hundreds of mice romping around our campsite, getting all up in my Jeep and trying to get in my pant legs. Let alone the trees my hammock was tied to
What weight do the whoopie slings go to? I know the hammock supports 120kg, but will the whoopie slings go up to the same rating? Nothing on your website that states a rating.
Hi Fenrir,
The weight rating for the Whoopie slings is 125kg.
The ratings for the products can be found on the 'Specs & more' section on their product pages.
Hope this helps!
Ben, DD Hammocks.
Thanks for the reply, I guess I am blind lol. If all goes well with the frontline and under quilt that will be my next purchase.
I have the DD Frontline. I'm happy with it, but I don't like the three litte velcros, because they don't hold the sleeping pad very well.
Why didn't you use a zipper, as you did for the moskitonet?
Ist Geheim
Hi Ist,
The reason why we use velcros instead of a zip is to make the hammock lighter (zip is a lot heavier than velcros and doesn't allow the hammock to pack up so small).
If you are using an inflatable thermarest try to fill it three quarters intend of 100% - this should make a difference. Hope it helps!
Zanna
Ist Geheim *mosquito net. I remember how to spell it by pronouncing it wrong in my head: mo squite oh instead of mo skeet oh.
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP i have one headphone... and its a left. leave it to youtube auto captions or nah?
Just got an ENO singlenest hamock. How good are they?
They are considered a good off the rack type hammock. If you are really getting into the sport you might want to check out DD or Blackbird hammocks.
Hello, what is the name of the knot used around 9:40?
Hi Daryll Santos,
This knot is called slippery half hitch!
All the best,
Zanna
Can you send me a link to the lightest setup in the world hammock you mention... interesting to see the weight my hammock and tarp and whoopee slings and net weight is only 19oz .. I be interested in getting the worlds lightest hammock you talk about but can't find it on your site
Sure! - www.ddhammocks.com/product/dd_superlight_hammock?from_cat=32

having a problem with condensation in my hammock spent a night out recently to awake to a soggy jura 2 sleeping bag any suggestions on combating this please
Scot Cousins - Sorry to hear it Scot, may I ask which hammock are you using? Our Travel Hammock has a waterproof base layer and is not as breathable as all other DD hammocks.
Please try spreading mosi net out and set the tarp up a bit higher up to allow for air circulation - this should help!
Zanna
DD Hammocks its a dd travel/bivi will try your tip thanks
My left ear liked this video
Im so poor i want one :( lol cant wait to get back to wildcamping
Do they support your lower back or are they arched all night long?
Hi! Don't worry, your back won't be arched when you sleep in the hammock as it offers you the support to get a good rest! Best, Caroline
What did he say at 7:30? I can't understand the last sentence before the scene change.
"you'll end up in a banana shape"
Ah! Thanks man!
Like a good LAY when I'm in my hammock. lol
cast to my tv so not a problem at all for me,
This is a very helpful video. But there is no way I can see how to tie the knot starting at about 9.05 because the most complicated part of tying the knot is blocked from view by the hand and it is done too quickly to follow. Nor can I understand the name of the knot through the thick accent. Does anyone know the name of this knot?
That will be the Slippery Half-Hitch knot! -Jocasta
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question!
I'd love to be able to get into hammock camping, and I even bought a hammock, but they're all so uncomfortable. I can't sleep on my back at all, and when I do get to sleep I wake up with terrible back pain.
+runningsandwich Sorry to hear hammocks are uncomfortable for you. For the flattest and most comfortable lie, we recommend placing yourself on the diagonal. This spreads the material out around you and creates greater width inside the hammock. Also try suspending the foot end of your hammock slightly higher, for a more comfortable lie. Hope this helps! Zanna
+runningsandwich I am sorry to hear it, have you tried sleeping on diagonal? It allows for a flatter lie and makes it more comfortable. Zanna
Mmm... sound?
What dimensions does your hammock have? Thanks
Hi Marius! Most of our hammocks are 2.7m x 1.4m. We do have two XL models which are 3m x 1.8m. Hope this helps! Best, Caroline
Nice 🔥 Nice 🔥 Nice 🔥....⚒️🚴🏽♂️🇧🇷✍️
Where can you legally hammock camp in the UK? I'm based in the South West.
Hi James - thank you for your message! It's best to check with your local authority before you camp, as this can vary between areas and nations; for example, in Scotland you can camp in various locations so long as the Scottish Outdoor Access Code is followered, but this is not the case in England. I hope this helps! - Vikki, DD Hammocks
Isn't having the foot end higher dangerous? Wouldn't it send all the blood down toward your head much like sleeping downgrade?
+Barnastil Not at all! It needn't be very much higher - maybe 6 inches or so - just enough to stop you sliding towards the foot end. Shouldn't find this affects blood circulation at all (I don't, anyway). - Jocasta
what is the weight limit
125kg for all our hammocks except the Superlight Hammock, the Chill Out Hammock and the Scout Hammock (all 100kg). - Jocasta
Does DD ship to the states?
yes they do, shipping is included and takes appx 3 days for arrival.( it did with my Superlight model)
