EV Shootout. FUN! Instant green was different. Congrats on the win and showing the impressive camaraderie of the racers. So many EV's and your gasser buddies too..
Even the water box guy gets a cut..you are a true gentleman..I tip the track prep guys as well..especially when my 60 ft. is good..they're the unsung heroes of Friday Night Brackets
Congratulations! Fun runs and great sportsmanship! The instant green is a good equalizer. 0.000 is amazing!! In the end, it looks like everybody who raced won, in this friendly competition.
It’s only a shame that (mathematically) there wasn’t any “purse” left after giving all the drivers back their buy-in. But if we get 10 EVs next time, the house kicks in $250 more, and that will go a long way to appreciating the track staff. (But not in the way that the water box guy was hoping for at 19:40 !!! 🤪)
I didn't know you did that for all the competitors aslo !! You are a Class Act Andrew!! Cant wait for the next one LET'S GET MORE CARS so we can have 2 classes!!
It was surprising, as traction usually wanes and we get our worst times that late the night. But also reassuring that these old tires can still get down this track in imperfect conditions 👍
I didn't know it was a instant green!!! I was never told that! So, I looked stupid when it went green instantly!!! I would have liked to run a ev bracket race. My model 3 performance is no match for model s plaids. Congratulations on the win!!!!!!
Hey Bradley! I’ve got $50 for you, same as I gave to all the racers that night. It seemed that you left before Dale handed out the cash, so I’m looking forward to seeing you at the track again soon! (Wednesday May 1st will actually be my next race night.)
Hi @TeslaPlaidChannel ! Thanks for the cool videos! They motivated me to buy plaid) Please tell me if it is possible to put MT street 285/35 R19 tires on the rear axle of Plaid ... I will leave the front tires native... won 't the computer go crazy?
We found out (the hard way) that Teslas are sensitive to the Overall Tire Diameter (OD). Plaids require 28.0", with a small tolerance for wear (~3%). Beyond that, the car will do bad things, starting with Traction Control warnings, disabling AP and cruise control, and then disabling Power Steering! Driving without Power Steering is a No Go. We now use TireSize dot com for checking all tire specs. The Nitto NT01s that we use on bad prep nights are no longer made in the size we have (285/35R20, with 27.87" OD). If we were buying a drag tire today, we'd strongly consider these: 275/40R19 Nitto NT555RII has a diameter of 27.68", a width of 10.94", mounts on a 19" rim and has 751 revolutions per mile. It weighs 28.7 lbs, has a max load of 1819 lbs, a maximum air pressure of 51 psi, a tread depth of 6.3/32" and should be used on a rim width of 9-11".
Thanks for the detailed answer. I have already ordered 285/35 r19 and I will still try it... otherwise, we have problems buying other rubber, I'm from another country. If you are interested, I will write about my experience and my results in drag. Thanks again.@@TeslaPlaidChannel
Long warranty, including 8 years and 150,000 miles in the battery. We never keep our cars that long, as something faster always comes along sooner than that! 😃
So much for heavy powerful evs killing tires faster than ice do eh? 21k+st miles and 900+passes at the strip! 😀👍🏻 Always a class act man, true old school gentleman racer. 😎
👍Thanks for the kind words. Indeed, we’re as surprised as anybody how well these Pirellis are holding up. If the summer heat softens them a bit, we’ll wait til fall to replace them 😃
It seems like I have been waiting forever for some performance house to start modding electric cars. Maybe a few of these "cash days" for electric cars will encourage some ingenuity. Should not be difficult, with the factor of safety enforced to any mass production electric motor, a 20 percent voltage boost should be an easy modification, hell most electric motors will handle a 50 percent voltage boost with no immediate issue. Removing weight is archaic. This isn't an ancient Roman chariot. Let's see what happens in the next couple years
Actually, I was contacted by Holley about two years ago asking if I’d be interested in testing something new for them. But it went quiet after that, so maybe they went back to the drawing board? 🤔
Great performance today, Andrew! It'll be great when you change out the shoes on the Plaid. Let us know what rubber youre planning to use...looking forward to how your car performs with new shoes!👍🏾
👍Probably end of summer, as these Pirellis still have lots of tread and higher temperatures should help soften them a bit. Then we've got our eyes on some Nitto 555RII Drag Radials: 275/40R19
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Sounds good! I know you said in the video that the Pirelli's have been on the car since you got them...I know since I've been watching you since just before you picked up the Plaid. You mentioned how the older rubber may be hurting your ET's, so that's why I can't wait for the new tires. 😊 I guess the bigger concern for me with the wear is track safety. Think they'll hold up?
@@ignacio532 👍 This car also had a pair of Nitto NT01s on the rear for dozens of those ~900 dragstrip runs, probably around 50 of them. The tread on all of these tires is plenty safe, it’s just a matter of how perfect the condition needs to be for a sixty foot time under 1.45 😃
@@TeslaPlaidChannel as long as you're confident. I remember when you changed to the Nitto's and you were concerned about rotational weight affecting your ET'S. Just looking forward to seeing the Plaid perform in the warm weather again!
Crazy that a brand new MSP runs just about the same as your several year old MSP with 1000+ runs on original factory tires and a battery that has been seriously abused.
See next video (posting April 20) for a full 1/4 mile run against that same white (wrapped) 2024 Model S Plaid that has maybe 1000 miles and is at the dragstrip for the first time. Spoiler, we’re still faster. Secret: We don’t abuse the battery at all. Our 1000th pass in our 2019 Raven was faster than all previous 999 dragstrip runs because we know how to treat it. We keep it between 20-80% until we are on our way to the track. Even then, we don’t take it to 100%. Usually only 95% and then immediately drive it to the track. We’ve seen noobs (like that one big RUclips Channel) charge it to 100% and leave it there for a day, lock it up in an *enclosed* (!) trailer, tow it across Florida in peak summer heat, and now he can’t understand why it’s slower. We cringed when he did that in mid 2021 with one of the first Plaids delivered. Of course, THAT’S abusing the battery. Not us. We charge the car as Tesla recommends and haven’t had any problems 😃
Great question! Maybe hoping to get lucky in a short 3-round event? Also, the short 1/8th mile track means the ET's are 6's and 7's, not 9's and 11's. Add the variables of traction and who-knows-what Reaction Times? Example: The same question might be asked about why a Model Y Performance would race a Model 3 Performance, when they are a solid half-second apart. As it turned out, the Model Y owner caught the Model 3 owner sleeping at the light and eliminated him in the first round. But in the end, all of them got to compete "for free" since the winner of the shootout used the Prize Money to reimburse everyone's Buy-in fees ($50).
In Vagas You can choose to have taxes withheld if you win less than $5,000 and a W2-G is issued. The gambling establishment is required to withhold taxes if you win $5,000 or more and it triggers a W2-G. The standard withholding amount is 24% from gambling winnings You're Welcome!

It would be interesting to let the plaid make a run in FSD with no input just to see its time. Have you ever tried that on a test day or time trial?
