    I'm glad you tell us honestly how they really taste. A lot of recipes out there are always like "they taste like the real thing!" and then I make it and it's not similar at all.

      this is why i dont compromise when it comes to certain food, like donuts. i just cant. if i'm going to have a donut, it has to be the real thing. i'll trek to Peter Pan Donuts in Greenpoint Brooklyn NYC. literally nothing, and i mean NOTHING is comparable. krispy creme and dunkin are a sugar infested joke compared to this mom and pop shop. i'll get on my bike, pedal for an hour to get there, buy 2 donuts, eat one there with coffee, then pedal back. i would have likely burned off the calories of the first one, and i'll save the 2nd one for the next morning. what makes these special is that they use wayyyy less sugar the the chain donut shops.

    I, too, grew up on Krispy Kremes. We would have them as fundraisers in our church. Then later the KK stand-alone shops started popping up. I became T2D in 1991 and I had to do something about my KK habit soooo, I decided to get the yeast donuts unglazed... Holy Crap! NEVER do that, it was like eating a mouth full of lard. It absolutely turned me off of donuts for many years. Then I found Round Rock yellow glazed donuts and said to hell with the diabetes. I loved their glazed donut holes - a dozen is $1.49. But their dozen is about 30 donut holes! Now that I am on Keto, not a single donut hole has crossed my lips! 22 pounds lighter, I have decided that the donuts can wait for a while! LOL Then I came across your series of "battle" videos and am looking forward to making some of these delicious alternatives! Thanks for your best efforts to helping us stay focused on the task at hand!

    I learned this when I went gluten free You gotta get the idea of reproducing your favorite this or your favorite that outa your head or you are never gonna be happy. Embrace the change and be thankful you can eat something similar without ending up looking like a donut yourself. Oh and for those going gluten free forget eating white fluffy bread all together thats not ever going to be bread.

    Ok I have a serious question and I've been wondering about it for a long time I think I've only seen it once in a recipe why can't you use yeast to make our low carb items

    • @ruthchristianson4595
      @ruthchristianson4595 4 года назад +1

      Yeast doesn't interact with the keto flours because they lack gluten. In one video, he mentioned using yeast in a keto recipe just for that yeasty flavor, if you like that.

    • @oopssugar
      @oopssugar 4 года назад

      @@ruthchristianson4595 so if I put some gluten in it it will right?

    • @ruthchristianson4595
      @ruthchristianson4595 4 года назад

      @@oopssugar no. If you want keto, forget the gluten. Please. Gluten isn't the answer. Actually, neither is the yeast. There are reasons people do the keto. To avoid the carbs that are part of regular flour. If you don't care about keto, just use regular flour. If you want low carbs, do the keto as per the keto recipes. Get the coconut flour or the almond flour. If you want a yeast FLAVOR, add a little yeast. It won't do a thing in those nut flours. That is OK. If you want gluten, add some, but I doubt it will help, but maybe I am wrong. So, just experiment and comment back here later how it went.

    I don't know if they're trying to fool themselves or fool the viewers but they just aren't being honest when they say it tastes just like the real thing. The dishonesty bugs me when I've gotten all excited and bought the ingredients for a small fortune and three hours baking, and then.. it comes out tasting nothing like what I was promised. Oftentimes they taste good in their own rights, but please, keto RUclips cooks and bakers, stop saying it's "just like the real thing" if it isn't.

      @@twinklestar4814 Sorry, you can reverse NON insulin (or insulin) dependant TYPE 2 diabetes (Food related) with Keto/low carb (My A1C was 8.2 and in 6 months it went to 5.4. Lots of anecdotal evidence out there). This individual will ALWAYS require insulin so it wont get rid of her diabetes. Low carb diets are ok BUT it is difficult to manage for TYPE 1 diabetics. Type 1 diabetes produces ZERO insulin. Type 2 (either insulin or non insulin dependant) diabetics produce SOME insulin but the insulin we produce is resistant to the glucose we have in our systems. Reducing the amount of carbs we take will reduce the amount of glucose in our systems which in turn allows insulin to become less resistant to glucose. Type 1 diabetes is mostly juvenile onset and families with young children who are type 1 have a very difficult time managing the HIGHS and especially the LOWS of type 1. Keto diets for type 1 would be difficult to manage due to lower volumes of carbs. Listen to Dr. Jason Fung, he will educate you on Keto/Low carb especially in Type 1 people.

      @@twinklestar4814 A keto diet will not get rid of T1 diabetes. It may help with T2 diabetes but T1 is an autoimmune disorder. Your body is attacking your pancreas and simply changing your diet will not stop that.

      But I get him: My favorite dessert was the apple pie I made each year for holidays. But after over 2 years on keto, it doesn’t taste that good to me anymore-it’s kind of disappointing to go to all the work of making them and come to that conclusion now. (And it is *really* *good* *pie*. Now, most regular baked goods, no matter how good, don’t taste that good. I like the low carb versions of many things I make better.

    Well, I do know one thing...you and I would be dangerous in a doughnut shop together. They are my trigger point. You might as well add up all the net carbs of the total batch for me and move on. I have willpower with everything BUT doughnuts. I love them. I don't care what kind they are, I will eat any of them, at any time and be totally unbiased. I am an equal opportunity doughnut eater. I don't even care if I only have water to wash them down. Milk is good, coffee is wonderful, but if water is all I have, that's fine. God bless you Wes and glad you are back with us.

    My daddy always said modern eggs were so much more fragile than the ones from years ago - and he was right. The shells are thinner and the yolks are light yellow. The “expensive” cage free, etc eggs are tastier and have much thicker and harder shells. From a chicken’s point of view, thicker shells means more likely the chicks will hatch.

      I am blessed with my own flock of laying hens and can attest to what your daddy said. Store bought eggs are so anemic compared to the fresh eggs we get from our hens every day, with sturdy shells, deep yellow yolks, and a much better taste.

    Love your videos - it doesn't hurt that you're so easy on the eyes either. Just wanted to mention a tip - when baking with empty wells (in a muffin tin or anything like it), add a tbsp of water to each of the empty ones to keep the pan from warping over time. Though you think it would make things soggy, the steam can actually cause a bit of crisping on the top (that's how they get French bread so crispy on the outside).

I converted it to keto 1:1 by substituting the flour with almond flour, sugar with granulated swerve, milk with almond milk.. or just use milk as the carbs are negligible. Its magical, and takes about 4-5 minutes vs doing all the baking associated with these other types of donut recipes. Thanks bud! www.landolakes.com/recipe/17984/doughnut-mug-cake/
